Research Note: Son of Herlar? Anton Obitz born Loreaine, France and Kathryn Angeline Ausdat? born Brooklyn, NY. His wife was Susan Kieth. Joe Genbaugh was the informant on the death certificate. - Cassville Republican, Dec. 18, 1919 - A. A. Obitz who a few years ago owned a farm south of Cassville has returned from his family to this community where they mean to locate. They have lived at Cambridge, Md., since leaving here. Mr. Obitz says they are delighted to get back to Barry County which he says has the finest climate in the world. A. Obitz, south of town, died Friday afternoon of typhoid fever. Interment was made Sunday at the Horner Cemetery following funeral services held at the house in charge of Rev. T. H. Hickman. He was a member of Seven Valley Play Boys musical group. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Butterfield where he was a Deacon. He married Virginia Carnes Reed on September 9, 1963, in Berryville, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia; and three brothers, George, T. Bob Preddy of Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. - January 27, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Leonard Mitchell has purchased the interest of Tom Preddy in the Star Theater. - Cassville Republican, June 13, 1918 - Tom Preddy has a new machine and everything up in good condition for his moving picture shows at the Opera House. He will appreciate your patronage. - Cassville Republican, Aug. 28, 1919 - Attempted Hold Up: Two men attempted to hold-up Tom Preddy Friday night as he went home after the moving picture show which Mr. Preddy conducts at the Opera House. He frequently goes to and from his home by a back ally leading south from Main street and did so Friday night. A short distance before reaching home two men confronted him and demanded that he hold up his hands. He turned and ran toward town and called for City Marshal Wolfenbarger. Later R. H. Barber left the cafe for his home in the same part of town knowing of the attempt to hold up Preddy carried a gun along with him and discovering a man near his home he fired a t him. At the same time another man was seen by Wolfenbarger to be running across the field toward the creek. - Cassville Republican, Oct. 30, 1919 - Will Nickell, Tom Preddy and Paul Mattingly are at work on the erection of a wireless receiving station here.
