On April 3, 1955, he was united in holy matrimony to Frances Lorene Haworth; she preceded him in death on March 17, 1998. He married Ruth Owens, and she passed away on January 25, 2019. Following graduating from Monett High School in 1952, he worked at Moss' Market in Monett. Following that he worked at Armour's in Monett. He and his brother owned and operated Lucky 7 Café in Monett, and Lanny later became a milk hauler. He started to work at Vaisey-Bristol and Jumping Jacks in Cassville, and continued with the company when it relocated to Monett; he then returned to Cassville to work at Justin Boots. He was a Sheriff's Special Deputy during Vernon Still's administration and a member of the Barry County Sheriff's Posse. Research Note: She was the daughter of James Bernard and Marjorie (Skelton) Perkins. Dortha married Buddy Joe Amos on January 24, 1959 in Cassville, Missouri, who preceded her in death on April 21, 2021. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Ollie Mae Williamson and Irene Newell and one great-grandson, Ollin Amos. Surviving are her three loving children; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Soon after her birth Dortha moved with her parents and siblings to Cassville, Missouri where she attended and graduated from Cassville High School. In 1959 she and Bud moved to Kansas City where she graduated from cosmetology school. After graduation they moved to Excelsior Springs in 1963 where she opened her own hair salon in Excelsior Springs and another salon in Richmond, Missouri; she worked as a stylist for 40 years until her retirement. After retiring they moved to the Amos Family Farm in 2004, a third-generation farm. They loved to travel and visited every state in the United States as well as parts of Canada, British Columbia and the Bahamas. Dortha enjoyed attending auctions, camping, sewing, and gardening. She was an excellent cook and was a skilled oil and acrylic painter. Dortha was a faithful Christian and loved the Lord. She was a member of Gunter Methodist Church and a good servant to others. Research Note: He was the son of O.C. and Rose (Perkins) Hayes. On April 14, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Kay Nunnallee. Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Lucille Hayes, Virginia Hayes, Louise Pryor and Ruby Barnett; three brothers, Red Hayes, Cotton Hayes and Slim Hayes. Bob attended school in Purdy, Missouri graduating from Purdy High School. Bob was employed with Contel, GTE and Verizon telephone companies as a lineman and telephone repairman for twenty-eight years from where he retired in November, 1992. He was a member and attended Gunter Methodist Church near Butterfield with Reverend Jerry Nickle as their pastor and friend from 1970 until Bob's health started failing. Bob and Kay were always in the same pew and enjoyed Jerry's "old-time" preaching and Norman Spain leading the "old-time" singing. Bob sang bass and always sang his parts. Research Note: He was the son of the late Earl and Dorothy (Prier) Holloway. He was united in marriage on July 4, 1957 in Monett to Linda Patton. He was a member of the Gunter Methodist Church near Butterfield and was part of the Monett National Guard. Jim was a 1955 graduate of Purdy High School and after graduating started his career working for a poultry company in Cassville, he later changed jobs and began working for Armour poultry processing in Monett. He became a supervisor, working until the 1970's. In June 1985, when Tyson Foods added a second shift, he joined Tyson and became the second shift manager. Around 1990 he became the personnel manager for Tyson's plant in Green Forest, Arkansas, and commuted from Monett for that job. He later returned to the Monett plant and became personnel manager, the position he held when he retired. He joined the United States Marines serving for three years, and later re-enlisted in the United States Air Force from which he retired. He served in the Korean Conflict, as well as the Vietnam War. Mr. King later worked as a deputy sheriff for Mercer County in Princeton, and worked at Fasco in Cassville for eight years. Research Note: David Max Long of rural Butterfield passed away Sept. 19, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on February 1, 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Charles Bernola and Zuma Kathryn (Weatherly) Long. David moved to Barry County Missouri with his parents and family when he was three-years old. As a teenager he moved back to Hutchinson with his brother George. In 1961 he moved to Mesa, Arizona and on October 11, 1963, he was united in marriage to Phyllis E. Byrd. (Divorced in 1989). In 1963, shortly after his marriage to Phyllis, they moved to Los Angeles, California, where David worked for LA Paper Box and Board Mill. In 1973 they moved to Barry County Missouri where he remained for the rest of his life. David farmed, raised cattle, and was a truck driver for Tyson Foods, from which he retired. He married Wanda K. Wolf on October 21, 2004, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Although they divorced in 2007, Wanda continued to look after him and was a special friend. He is survived by his daughter Connie Mae and her husband John Corlett of Ash Grove, Missouri; two granddaughters, Amanda Jo and her husband Chase Higgs of Exeter, Missouri and Nicole Lynn and her husband Britten House of Butterfield, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Addi, and Beau Higgs. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; eight brothers, Jim, George, Bill, Lloyd, John, Harold "Buster", Gary, and Errol; and two sisters, Betty (Long) Bartel and Beverly (Long) Garber. David attended school at Jenkins and Cassville. His favorite past-times were putting up hay and raising beef cattle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at Gunter Cemetery in Butterfield, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Survivors include: two sons, Paul Sandberg and his wife, Ethel, of Pleasant Hill, and Gary Marbut and his wife, Darla, of Cassville; three daughters, Joyce Ward, of Springfield, Ruby Samberson and her husband, Robert, of Wills Point, Texas, and Kay Miller and her husband, Bill, of Joplin; one brother Cecil Jinks, of Locust Grove, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She received her education in Nebraska and Cassville. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Gunter Methodist Church at Purdy and also attended services at Cassville First Baptist Church. For the majority of Jim's life, he lived with Linda and Sandy in Cassville, Missouri. Over the years he owned the town's Sears and Roebuck Catalog Store, a trophy shop and sold cars. He worked at these jobs to make a living but he was only truly living when he was on the lake. Linda died from cancer in 1996 and Jim never totally rebounded from that.
