According to the current owners the cemetery name was unknown in 1973 when the surveyors came by to survey it. They needed a name for their paperwork so "they" named the cemetery after the largest existing stone in the cemetery, that of Paul Garrison. The real name is most likely the Scholten Cemetery as it's first burials began about the time Scholten began to come together and seemed to continue until the late 1880's when the Mars Hill cemetery began. The owners also said that people had come by years ago said that some of there people had been moved from the old cemetery to Mars Hill.
