Directions: From the intersection of B and 37 in Purdy, MO, take B west 2.1 miles and turn left or south on road 1055. Go south 1.2 miles to the first creek crossing. Cross the second creek and the gate to enter the field is about 100 foot south of the 2nd crossing on the left or east side of the road. From the gate the cemetery is about 200 yards to the center of the field on your right as you enter the gate. If the creek is up you might have trouble crossing it. But you can probably cross it okay in a pickup. The "Old Fly Cemetery" is located on the land where Jeremiah Nicholas Fly and family settled when arriving in Barry County in the spring of 1839. The graves are located approximately 150 yards southwest of Joys Spring.

FLY, Martin Van Buren No Date May 26, 1863 Research Note: Martin Van Buren Fly, son of Jeremiah Nicholas Fly, was the first to be buried there May 27, 1863. On the night of May 26, 1863, men rode up in front of the Fly home near Verona and called him out of the house. When Martin opened the door Bushwhackers shot him down. The following day his mother, Nancy Oakley Fly, drove a wagon pulled by oxen to Verona to bring his body home. He was buried in the corner of the yard. Jack Fly

Research Note: Jeremiah Nicholas Fly died June 6, 1873. He was laid to rest next to his son. A prominent figure in early Barry County, Jeremiah N. Fly was a Justice of the Peace from 1842 to 1848, served as Sheriff and Collector from 1852 to 1856, and held the position of County Judge from 1856 to 1860. Jack Fly

Research Note: Nancy C. Oakley Fly was laid to rest next to her husband of 50 years on February 15, 1885. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Gray) Oakley. Jack Fly
