Jessie Mahurin was the informant. Cause of death was suicide, gunshot wound to the left chest. Location was in the car on a public highway near Stella, Newton Co., MO. Obit notes: Husband of Jessie (Vestal) Mahurin married July 7, 1912 in Barry Co., MO. Son of Silas Mahurin and Mary Jane (Pendergraft) Mahurin. Brother of Belle Letts, Dora E. He graduated from Ozark Bible Institute in Neosho, MO in 1975. Richard was a lifelong truck driver, holiness preacher, and student of God's word. He loved to sing and would get up all hours of the night to pray for his family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Hershell and Mary (Day) Mahurin; two brothers, Bob and Larry; one sister, Betty Fletcher, and one precious daughter, Roxanne Mary (Josephine) Clement. Research Note: He was the son of the late Charles McAllister and Agnes McAllister. He graduated form Wellsville Central High School, then married Elizabeth "Betty" Frim in Wellsville, New York on April 30, 1949. They remained married for sixty-eight years until Betty died. They moved from Wellsville, New York to Prescott, Arizona in 1952 then moved to West Fork, Ar. in 1956, then to Springdale, Ar., until settling in Pea Ridge in 1966. Don took a job at Frasier, Long Saddlery and Stables in Springdale, Ar. and there he learned the saddle maker trade. He then carried that trade on to Stewart's, Porters of Arkansas Western Store and Saddle Shop in Springdale. From there he started his at home saddle shop in Pea Ridge while starting his own cattle ranch. At one time he ran four hundred head of cattle until 1993 when he retired. Don also enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the South China Sea during World War II where he was an electrician on the naval destroyer USS Adams. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Elizabeth "Betty" McAllister; his oldest son, Don McAllister, Jr.; a grandson, Jeffrey Smith; his daughter-in-law, Patsy Clanton McAllister; brother, Wayne "Corky" and sisters, Phyllis, Rachel and Peggy. | Sisco Funeral Home Phyllis Long |

They moved from Wellsville, NY to Prescott, AZ. in 1952, then moved to West Fork, AR in 1956, then to Springdale, AR until settling in Pea Ridge in 1966. Betty was very accomplished, starting out as secretary to Judge Bill Enfield then moving to Executive Secretary to the Vice President at Cooper Communities in Bella Vista, AR. Then she joined Wal-Mart where she was appointed editor of the "Wal-Mart World" newspaper. From there she went to work at the Head Start Program in Rogers, AR and then as secretary to the renowned "Dr. Spock", all the while living on a cattle ranch and being a devoted wife and wonderful mother to three sons. Police said Michael Clayton Morgan, 21, the driver of the car, Brenda Lee (Pendergraft) Morgan, age 19, a passenger, were taken to St. Mary's Hosp. in Rogers. Their son, Michael D. Morgan was killed. A spokeswoman at St. Mary's said the driver was in stable condition Tuesday night. Mrs. Morgan, transferred to Washington Reg. Medical Center, was listed in poor condition in the Fayetteville hospital's intensive care unit. Alice Tennessee, daughter of Lott and Rebecca Banks, was born in Barry County on May 3, 1865 and passed away at her home May 17, 1957, at the age of 92 years. In 1883 she married William Potts and to this union five children were born. One daughter, Gertie preceded her in death, also her husband in 1983. In 1845 her father, Tug Webb, and Burl Goins and John Henry came from Tennessee in a covered wagon and settled in Barry County. Mrs. Potts spent her entire life in the Maple Grove community in Ash Township where she was born. She had been an invalid for the past several years. Surviving are two daughters, two sons,12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; one brother and one sister. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. I.D. Son of George and Laura (Mahurin) Stephens. - Jess Willard Stephens, 87, of Cassville, died yesterday, December 29, at St. John's Hospital-Cassville. Mr. Stephens was born October 9, 1916, in Garfield, Arkansas, the son of George and Laura (Mahurin) Stephens. He was a cattle farmer and was a member of Maple Grove Church of Christ in Seligman. He married Alice Louise Mars on January 24, 1939, in Pineville, and she preceded him in death May 12, 1985. He was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. There are no immediate survivors. Services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, December 31, at Maple Grove Church of Christ in Seligman. Burial will be in Dent Cemetery in Seligman under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Cassville.
