Her death certificate gives the year of her birth as 1853. Dr. D. L. Mitchell submitted the information. - December 2, 1915, Cassville Republican - Mrs. George Gilmore Dead: Mrs. George Gilmore died at their home 5 miles southeast of Cassville, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 24, age 61 years, one month and 17 days. Mrs. Martha (Barker) Gilmore was born in Hillsdale County, Michigan, Oct. 7, 1854. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Barker of Cherryvale, Kan., former residents of the Pasley neighborhood south of Cassville. She was married to George Gilmore in 1874. Six children were born to them. The five living are: Mrs. Mae Ruddick and Mrs. Ida Reams of Oklahoma, Mrs. Elsie Ashley of Idaho, John of Kansas and George at home. She had an attack of pneumonia from which she had practically recovered when uremic poison set up which cased her death. Mrs. Gilmore was a member of the Christian church and was estimable lady. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Corinth Baptist Church, conducted by Eld. Ed Vanderpool and her body laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. - August 4, 1917, Cassville Democrat - Flatwood: Grandma Barker, of Cherryvale, Kan., is visiting at the home of George Gilmore and other friends in this neighborhood. - March 7, 1912, Cassville Republican - Mrs. George Gilmore south of town received a message Friday stating that her mother, Mrs. John Barker, who lives at Cherryvale, Kan., was dangerously ill with pneumonia. Research Note: Cassville, Barry Co., MO resident. He was the son of Raymond and Pauline (Sherman) Harris. He was a 1967 graduate of Cassville High School, and later enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War and earned the Purple Heart along with many other awards and recognitions. On October 25, 1969, he was united in marriage to Judith Lee in Peculiar, Missouri. Mr. Harris was a Barry County Deputy Sheriff before becoming a Cassville City Police Officer where he served from 1984 to 1993. He had recently been employed at the Cassville Public Works Department working as a technician from 1993 until his retirement in 2009. He became an Ordained Deacon in May of 1980 and served as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Exeter, and was a member and served as a Deacon at Corinth Baptist Church in Cassville. Inscription: "Blessed are the dead which died in the Lord" - Research Note: Cassville Republican, Oct. 21, 1920 - Rolla Hefley, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Hefley, of the Corinth locality, southwest of this community, died Sunday, Oct. 17, following an illness of about one year of tuberculosis. Funeral services were held at the Hefley home Monday afternoon and internment made in the Corinth cemetery. Rolla was born January 8, 1901. He lived all of his life in that community except for a short time while in the West seeking a more favorable climate for the benefit of his health. He was married about two years ago to Miss Mary Sills, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Sills. To them a daughter was born. He leaves his wife and infant daughter, father and mother, one brother, Frank, and two sisters, Mrs. William Wheeler of Aurora and Mrs. James Smalley of Nebraska. His untimely death has brought deep grief to his numerous relatives and friends. He had realized for some months that the end was near and expressed his willingness to go. Last spring, in the company of his father, he went to Colorado and remained for some time, but received little benefit, and desired to return home for what time he had left to live. SSW: Octava - Research Note: Cassville Democrat, February 27, 1904 - Albert Henbest, an old and respected citizen, died at his home, 4 miles east of town, Sunday after a very short illness. Mr. Henbest was one of the pioneers of Barry County and was highly respected by all. He was born in New Forest, Hampshire, England, Dec. 29, 1820 and was 83 years, 1 month and 23 days old at his death. He removed with his parents to Canada in 1837 and afterwards to Ohio and then to Illinois. Shortly after the war he removed to the vicinity of Fayetteville, MO, whence in 1868 to his late residence 4 miles east of Cassville. Mr. Henbest was an exemplary citizen a man of warm heart and strong opinions and was always interested in everything pertaining to the good of his country and neighborhood. He was a pioneer in the fruit and berry business and made a success. He leaves behind a numerous family to mourn his loss: William Alfred and Edward Henbest, Mrs. Clay Stubblefield and Mrs. James Waddell of this county; Mrs. W. P. Stubblefield, Oklahoma; Mrs. James Fox of Joplin; Mrs. Pres. Daugherty, McDonald County; Mrs. Emily Cunningham and John Henbest, Fayetteville, Ark., and two children, Martin and Elizabeth deceased. Mrs. Nina Hensley gave the information. - Cassville Democrat Jan. 4, 1929 - First Flu Victim Dies Near Cassville Sunday Morning The first victim of the influenza epidemic which stuck this part of the country a short time ago was reported Sunday, when Green Hensley, a prominent farmer residing south of this city on the Judd Smith farm, died after an illness of four days. Pneumonia is said to have developed on the second day of his illness. Mr. Hensley came to the section a few months ago from St. Joe, Ark. And had become a citizen of this county. He was 38 years old and leaves a wife and three children. He was reputed to be a splendid man and citizen and stood high in the estimation of his neighbors of Pasley section. In 1970, he became an owner-operator for Acoma Foods. He then became an owner-operator for Tyson Foods, where he retired after twenty-seven years of service. His death certificate reads that his parents were Andy J. and Hannah Hopkins. - Funeral services for John Sterling Hopkins, native resident of the Washburn Prairie community who passed away at his home in the community last Saturday afternoon, were held at the Corinth Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Chas. Vanzandt officiating assisted by the Rev. Ab Edie. Mr. Hopkins, who had lived his entire life in that community, was 77 years of age. He retired from farming several years ago. His father, the late A. J. Hopkins was one time Sheriff of Barry County many years ago. He had been in ill health for several months. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Ida Hopkins of the home: four sons, Ted, Gail, Rolland and W. K., all of that community; and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Catron of Exeter, Mrs. Reva McGruder of Wayne, and Mrs. Hazel Hankins of Pittsburg, Calif. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. K. F. Howell of Tulsa and Mrs. Lula Wertz of Cassville; one brother, A. J. of Parma, Idaho. Musical selection were furnished at the service by a quartet composed of J. D. Smith, Loyce Hopkins, Ralph Davis and Emory Melton, accompanied by Mrs. Eldon Robb at the piano. Mrs. Hunt had been a sufferer for a long time and had borne it with Christian fortitude and passed peacefully away surrounded by many of her loved ones. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Will Ireland, and interment made in the Corinth cemetery. Minnie Dunn Hunt was born in Barry county near Washburn March 1, 1870. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dunn. Most of her life was spent in this county and at Aurora. The family lived for some time in Oklahoma.
