Roy Craig of Rural Cassville, MO was the informant on the death certificate. Gabriel P. Allison married Margaret Longley, May 1, 1891, in Barry Co., MO, and were married by David A. Cole, Minister of the Gospel. Gabriel was age 24 and Margaret was age 23. - Information at ancestry.com says Margaret died in 1888 and is buried at Washburn Prairie but she is not listed. Might not have a stone. According to the 1910 Census, Gabriel had been married twice, currently married to Nancy C. "Tina" for 13 years. She was the mother of 5 children, 2 living. Research Note: Daughter of Price "Bud" Allison, born Henry Co., MO and Tina Phillips, born MO. M. H. Hessie of Cassville, MO was the informant. TB was the cause of death. The death certificate gives burial in Mineral Springs Cemetery but the obit has Corinth Cemetery. Also has her birth date as Sept. 14, 1898. Stone has Sept. 23, 1897. Her parents Gabriel Price "Bud" Allison and Nancy C. "Tina" Phillips are buried in Corinth Cemetery. - June 16, 1917, Cassville Democrat - The sad announcement of the death of a young girl was made Monday morning and the sympathy of the many friends of the family in this city and neighborhood went out to the bereaved family in their great bereavement. The death angel beckoned the spirit of Miss Myrtle Allison to come up higher to a place of stern all blessedness and felicity and she obeyed the summons Sunday night, June 10, at 9 p.m. at the Allison home northeast of this city of tuberculosis, aged 16 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Allison northeast of this city. Funeral services were conducted at Corinth Baptist Church Monday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there. Babb" - Research Note: She was a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Roberts) Babb. - Cassville Republican, February 6, 1913 - After many years of intense suffering from dropsy, rheumatism and other diseases Rhoda Babb, daughter of the late Rev. Samuel and Elizabeth Babb passed away Thursday evening of last week at the home of her son, Emmett B. Babb, in Washburn. The deceased was born in Hancock County, Tenn., about 67 years ago and came with her parents to Missouri in 1879. Her parents settled near Washburn and later lived in Cassville where she grew to womanhood. Early in life she became a member of the Methodist church and had lived a consistent member until death. She is also survived by four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Sarah Lowder of Cassville, Joe Babb of Grant, Okla., Mrs. Mattie Wallen of Fairland, Okla., Mrs. Tina Bradley of Miami, Okla., M. B. SSW: Elizabeth - Research Note: Son of William Babb and Mary Brown. Samuel moved to OK to live with his son after the death of his wife. He was a Methodist minister. His body was returned to MO for burial. - Cassville Republican, March 9, 1911 - Aged Minister Passes Away: Rev. Samuel Babb died at the home of his son, J. W. Babb, at Hugo, Okla., Friday, March 1, 1911, at the advanced age of 83 years, of general debility. Samuel Babb was born in Tennessee, April 10, 1829. There he grew to manhood undergoing all the hardships and privations of the early pioneers. At the age of nineteen years he professed faith in Christ and at twenty-three he was ordained to preach and became an active minister. He preached his last sermon when 81 years old. The sermon was preached at the request of friends of Grant, Okla., where he then lived. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Roberts in Tennessee in 1848. Mrs. Babb died a few years ago. To them were born ten children, two of whom died in infancy, the remaining eight are living. The are Mrs. Sarah Lowder, Cassville; J. W. Babb, Hugo, Okla.; Miss Rhoda Babb, Washburn; Mrs. Minta Wallen, Fairland, Okla.; Mrs. Lena Hefley, Cassville; Mrs. Tina Bradley, Miami, Okla.; M. B. Babb, Cassville; Mrs. Laura Ezra, Mt. Vernon. As a great many other Tennesseans did, he caught the desire to move west and came to Missouri. For about thirty years the family has lived in Barry County. Samuel Babb was a man who in every sense of the term lived up to all the tenets of the Golden Rule. He was a conscientious Christian gentleman, a man of earnest convictions and a man of deep religious temperament. His friends were always number by his acquaintances. The body was shipped to Cassville and buried at the Corinth Cemetery after funeral services held Saturday afternoon by Rev. J. W. Ennes. - From B. F. Babb, descendant of Samuel's daughter Rhoda - Samuel established a Methodist Church south of Cassville at Corinth. The land was given to him by Doc Hefley. B. F. says the church is still there. She was born December 17, 1913 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Reverend James Allen Carter and Artie Elizabeth (Cordell) Carter. On October 26, 1928, Eureka Spring, she was united in marriage to Edward Ball, who preceded her in death on August 25, 1979. Also preceding her in death were her parents: two sons, Ellery and Ellis Ball: two daughters, Annabelle, in infancy and Ettaree Louise (Ball) Warren; five brothers, (twins) Virgil and Spurgeon, Benny, Ellis and Levi Carter; two sisters, Minnie Crawford and Edith Ball; three grandchildren; one great grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. Surviving are three sons, two daughters, one daughter-in-law, two sisters-in-law, thirty-two grandchildren, sixty-two great grandchildren, seventy-three great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren. Lorena grew up in the Roaring River area, receiving her education at Roaring River School. Brandt on Dec. 22, 1856 in Andrew Co., MO. - Another Old Citizen Passes Away: One by one at a very rapid rate the very old citizens of this county are passing away. Another name was added to the list last Thursday morning when the spirit of Mrs. Caroline Brandt, wife of W. G. Brandt south of town five miles, returned to him who gave it. After a three week's illness with a liver trouble Mrs. Brandt died at 1 o'clock a.m., June 17, aged 77 years. Mrs. Caroline Pyburn Brandt was born in Miller county, MO., Jan. 30, 1832. In 1856 she was married to W. J. Brandt. They, with Mrs. Brandt's parents, William and Sarah Pyburn, came to Barry county in 1861 and settled near where W. J. Brandt now lives. To them were born nine children, eight of whom are living. They are Mrs. Sallie Maxwell, Miss Issie Brandt, Mrs. Jesse Cox, all living near Cassville; Mrs. Missouri James of Tulsa Okla., Mrs. James Phelps of Range Okla., and Will, Amon and George Brandt of near town. Mrs. Brandt was the sister of Mrs. Fannie Cox, Mrs. Monroe Logan and of Jackson Pyburn a prominent lawyer who died a few years ago at Winfield, Kan. Neighbors and acquaintances of Mrs. Brandt who knew her intimately speak in highest rearms of her kindly disposition, her excellent character and words of counsel and advice. She was a devoted and loving mother and wife and won the esteem and good will of the whole community in which she lived. SSW: Caroline - Research Note: After a lingering illness and months of feeble health James Brandt passed away at his home five miles south of Cassville Sunday morning, Nov. 14, 1909, aged 78 years. James Brandt was born in Ohio in 1831. He came to this county in 1855. The next year he went to Andrew county, Mo., were he lived two years. Returning to Barry county, he located south of town in the same vicinity where he died. He was thus one of the county's old residents, having lived here for more than half a century. In 1850 he was married to Caroline Pyburn. This union was blessed with nine children, eight of whom are living. The are: Mrs. Sallie Maxwell; Miss Izzie Brandt; Mrs. Fannie Cox; Will, Amon and George all of Cassville; Mrs. Missouri James and Joane Phelps of Oklahoma. Mrs. Brandt preceded her husband into the great unknown by a space of only a few months. In the death of Mr. Brandt the county loses another of its citizens who settled within her borders in ante-bellum days and upon whom was a share of the burden of making out of a backwoods section one of the best counties in the state. On November 3, 1959, in Lenexa, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Nora Jane Bowden, who preceded him in death on February 16, 2008. Bill grew up and received his education in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended Westport High School. From April, 1939 until April, 1943, he was the leader of his own eleven piece dance band and played the trumpet, while directing an orchestra in night clubs and hotels. He was in the United States Air Force during World War II, serving with the 752nd Army Air Forces Band in the United States for eighteen months and with the 26th and 83rd Infantry Division Bands in European Theater for one year. He played the trumpet in both the military and dance bands, and served as vocalist. He was a musician and vocalist, being one of the first to be assigned to the Glenn Miller specialist training program. For twenty years he was associated with the Fox Theatre Circuit in the greater Kansas City area. Bill sang at many churches in the Cassville area and in Branson, Missouri. A telegram from Roscoe Cox of Colorado Springs to his brother, Otis, of this city was received Wednesday afternoon announcing her death. Her body was sent to Cassville and was taken to Corinth Cemetery southwest of this city, Saturday for burial. The funeral at the Corinth Church, conducted by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt was attended by a good crowd of her old neighbors and friends regardless of the bad weather. Research Note: He was the son of Wallen and Beulah (Hood) Cox. On July 27, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Leatrice Hutchens. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother Bill Cox and his wife Jean and one brother-in-law Ted Easley. Jim grew up and received his education in Exeter graduating in 1963 and was member of the 1962-63 Exeter Basketball state championship team. After high school, Jim took classes at Crowder College and knocked around Barry County working for Leon Jackson, the county health department, his uncle Johnnie and Grandfather Earl Hood. Jim also loved to drive semi-trucks and go on cross country trips driving with and for his older truck driving buddies, his father, Tri-State Inc. and Keen Livestock. Later Jim went to work for Jones Truck Lines of Springdale, AR where he was a proud Teamster. Jim then struck out on his own with J and L Transportation, which Jim and Lea owned and operated for 20 years. Cox, daughter of J. B. and Jesse Hopkins was born on Washburn Prairie, March 3, 1899. Died at her home in the Corinth Community, March 9, 1929, age thirty years and six days. She was married to B. F. Cox April 6, 1929. To this union four children were born, who are: Alene, age 7, Buford, age 2 Madge age 5 and an infant daughter one week old. She was converted in December 1912, at the age of 13 years and united with the Corinth Baptist church, later moving her membership to the Washburn Prairie Church, of which she remained a faithful member until called to her reward. She leaves her husband, B. F. Cox, four children, her father and mother, six brothers and six sisters and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother, gentle, meek and kind to all her friends and acquaintances. It is hard to give her up, but we do not mourn as those who have no hope. She will be sadly missed in the home, church and community. Sleep on, dear one, and take they rest, God called you home. He knows best, Funeral services were conducted at the Corinth church, on Sunday Afternoon, March 10, 1929 by C.M. Smith and Chas. Vanzandt, Burial in the Corinth cemetery. The song service was in charge of W. P. Browning of Exeter, and his excellent class of singers. Some beautiful floral offerings were received from friends on this excellent lady. She had lived all her life in that community and was loved by all who knew her. Research Note: Husband of Fanny (Brandt) Cox. - January 25, 1908, Cassville Democrat - George Cox, father of Jesse Cox living south of town, who has lived and owned the Elk Horn Tavern on the Pea Ridge, Ark., battle grounds, before, during, and since the Civil War, died Sunday evening, age 75 years. - JESS COX DEAD: End Comes to Well Known Citizen at Kendrick, Colo. --- Consumption Cause. The angel of death is wandering throughout this land and is no respecter of persons. He summoned the spirit of a well known citizen of this county, in a distant state, whose body was shipped to this city, where it arrived Monday noon and was conveyed to the home of his son Otis Cox, where it remained until about 1 p.m., when it was conveyed to the Corinth Church, 4 miles southwest of this city, where Revs. Charles Vanzandt and M. W. Coones conducted funeral services before a large assemblage of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends. After the services the remains were intered in the cemetery near the church. "Jess" Cox, as he was familiarly called by his many acquaintances, was born in Texas and when quite young his parents moved to near Elk Horn Tavern on Pea Ridge, Benton county, Ark., where he lived until arriving at manhood. When 22 years of age he and Miss Fanny Brandt, of a well known and highly esteemed family of near this city, were married and for 36 years they had been companions in every sense of the word. Her afflictions for many years required his entire time and he was a devoted husband and would have made any sacrifice on earth to have her restored to health. He was conscious of the approach of death and made suggestions to his sons George, Harry and Roscoe who were with him at Kendrick, Colo., at their home where he died that they should remain with their mother and his brother Lee accompany his remains home for interment and his suggestions were carried out. He was 58 years old and died of consumption. Many years ago Jess was constable of Flat Creek township, and was nominated for county assessor by the democrats, but was defeated in the general election. He was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church. They were the parents of six children, five sons survive the father, they are: Roscoe, George and Harry of Kendrick, Colo., and Otis and Frank of and near this city. His many friends in this section regret his death and condole with his wife and sons. His unlimited devotion to his wife in her affliction had proven that his heart was in the right place. - Obit #2 - Jess Cox Dies in Colorado: William Jessie Cox died in Colorado Friday, June 29, of a complication of troubles, at about the age of 58 years. He moved to Colorado about a year ago for the benefit of his health and was living about thirty-five miles from Colorado Springs. Lung trouble is believed to have been the principle cause of death. For many years he was a citizen of the Pasley locality south of Cassville. As a young man he lived on Pea Ridge and at Elk Horn tavern. Coming to this county, he married Fanny Brandt, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Brandt, south of Cassville. Six children were born to them, a daughter who died in infancy and five sons are living. Three of the sons, Rosco, Harry and George are living in Colorado. Otis and Frank live here. His body was brought to Cassville Monday and taken to Corinth southwest of Cassville where the funeral was conducted by Rev. Ed Chappell and interment made. The body was accompanied to Cassville by a brother, Lee Cox, of Altoona Kan. On account of the very poor health of their mother the sons in Colorado did not attend the funeral. A brother, Albert Cox, of Avoca, Ark., also attended the funeral. Jess Cox was well known in this county. He had served as constable of Flat Creek township and made the race a few years ago for the office of county assessor. - Note: Arline Y. Cox stated that William Jesse Cox, buried in Corinth Cemetery, Barry Co, Mo, is the grandson of Jesse C. Cox (my husbands 3rd grand-uncle) and Polly Parker who at one time owned the Elkhorn Tavern in Benton Co, Arkansas. William Jesse was the son of George H. Cunningham died suddenly at his home south of Cassville in the Pasley locality, Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock following a stroke of paralysis, at the age of 74 years and 8 months. He was stricken about 8 o'clock that morning and lived only two and one-half hours after the stroke. He arose and ate his breakfast as usual and appeared to be feeling well. He had been in Cassville frequently and his friends and his associates could see no indication of failing health. He was of a rugged physique and for a man of his years seemed to be vigorous and strong. Thomas R. Cunningham was born in Buchanan county, Missouri, March 7, 1844. He grew to manhood and married there. In 1884 he moved to this county and had lived in the Vanzandt and Pasley locatives ever since. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, six of whom, three sons and three daughters, are living as is also Mrs. Cunningham. The children are George, Lark and Willie, the latter being now in France; Mrs. George VanDorn, Mrs. Will Brandt and Maud who is at home. Inscription: "Wife of James" - Research Note: There is very little information on the death certificate. She was widowed and father's name was Slane. J. R. Fogg of Cassville, MO, was the informant. Buried at Pasley Cemetery. In the 1850 Census, District 97, Rush, Indiana, she is with Samuel and Elizabeth Davis. Apparently, her mother was Elizabeth and remarried to Davis after Mr. Slane died. - Cassville Republican, October 22, 1914 - Died Thursday: Mrs. Nancy Dotson, who for a number of years has resided in the Pasley locality, passed peacefully away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Fogg, Thursday morning, Oct. 15, 1914. Death was due to complication of diseases brought about by old age. The deceased was born in Rush County, Indiana, in 1838. In 1851, she was married to James Dotson, deceased. To them were born four children, three daughters and one son. Mrs. Dotson has been a citizen of this county since 1871, during which time she enjoyed the confidence of her acquaintances. She was a member of the Christian Church and was one of our noblest and best citizens. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Corinth Baptist church conducted by Rev. E. W. Information was given by Mrs. Charles Hefley. - Cassville Democrat, April 19, 1929 - UNCLE HENRY DUNN PASSES AWAY THURSDAY, AGE 83: Henry David Dunn was born in Springfield, Mo., June 6th 1845, departed this life at his home in the Pasley neighborhood, south of Cassville, April 11, 1929, age 83 years, 10 months and 5 days. He suffered a stoke of paralysis about eight years ago, and has been in falling health since that time. He had been confined to his bed for about eight weeks. The family has resided in the Pasley community for 34 years, formerly living on Washburn Prairie. On August 15, 1867 he and Miss Mary A. Forester were married. To this union eight children were born, three of them dying in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Hunt passed away Nov. 23, 1918. The children who are living are, W. E. Dunn of Cassville. Mrs. J. S. Hopkins, living in the Pasley community, Mrs. Lillie Hefley of Cassville, and R. L. Dunn, who with his wife made their home with Mr. And Mrs. Dunn. Beside his wife and children, he leaves fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his death. Mr. Dunn was converted about thirty years ago, but did not unite with the church until about two years ago. He was baptized into the fellowship of Corinth church, on August 23, 1927, by Chas Vanzandt. During his last sickness he spoke often of his demise and assured his friends of his readiness to go. Mr. Dunn was a good neighbor and was always ready to render assistance to those in need. Funeral services were conducted at the home on Friday afternoon. April 12, 1929 by Chas Vanzandt. A large assembly of neighbors and friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. Members of the I.O.O.F. lodge from Seligman, Purdy, Washburn, Cassville and other places held services at the grave in the Corinth cemetery. Mr. Dunn has been a member of this lodge for fifty-two years. Hankins Funeral Directors had charge. Uncle Henry was a lovable character and he with his estimable wife had carried off honors in various contests held throughout this section for being the oldest married couple present. He raised a splendid family and in his declining days, greatly enjoyed meeting and talking with his old time acquaintances. He was an honest man, always lending a helping hand to the unfortunates and distressed. A few months ago he and his good wife enjoyed a trip to the Odd Fellows home. He was one of the oldest members of that order in this section and never ceased telling his many friends of the fine trip and courteous treatment afforded him on that trip. The county has lost one of it best citizens and the Democrat joins the many friends of the grief stricken family in extending sympathy in their sad hour of bereavement. - May 15, 1913, Cassville Republican - Milwaukee News: Henry Dunn and wife visited their son, Ed and children, Saturday night and Sunday, near Mt.
