Research Note: According to her death certificate, she was buried Aug. 10, 1934. Her father was given as Marshall Corley and her mother was not named. Informant was Bessie Hooten, Exeter, MO Undertaker: Barr - Blankenship, Exeter, MO. - Cassville Democrat, August 16, 1934 - Sarah Ellen Corley was born Sept. 18, 1865. Died at her home west of Exeter, Missouri, August 9, 1934, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and nine days. She came to Missouri, about fifty years ago. She was united in marriage to James Powell, in April 1885. To this union four children were born, three daughters and a son. The son and one daughter, with the father preceded her in death some years ago. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joe Hooten and Mrs. John Laney, also by one sister, Mrs. Bob Lee and sixteen grand-children and four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Ridgley Baptist Church, on Friday afternoon, August 10, 1934, by the Rev. Chas. McNabb, assisted by Chas. Vanzandt. Burial was in the Concord cemetery, under direction of the Barr-Blankenship Funeral Directions. Death Certificate

Research Note: Wife of William Edward Prewitt - mother to Rayburn and Avas LaFern. Died of TB. Newspaper account: Mrs. Mabel Ophelia Pruitt died June 5 at her home near Rocky Comfort. The funeral was conducted Thursday afternoon at Concord Church by Rev. J. T. Brattin. She was the wife of W. E. Pruitt and leaves two small children, a son and a daughter. Mrs. Pruitt was 23 years, 11 months and 13 days old. June 13, 1918 - Another item in same paper and same date - Independence - T. M. Stephens of Wentworth, formerly of Exeter and also Mrs. Mabel Pruitt of near Wheaton were buried at Concord Thursday afternoon. Rev. J. T. Brattin of Cassville preached the funeral of both. A large crowd attended. - Mabel Wooten, age 16, married Edward W. Prewitt, age 18, on Apr. 18, 1909 in Barry Co., MO. Daughter of William T, Wooten and Lenora "Nora" Lauderdale. Note

Research Note: He was a mason. His stone was repaired by Jack Fly. His wife was Catherine T. Samples. Their daughter, Margaret Jane Price, wife of Sidney Antle, is buried in Concord. Her death certificate states that she was widowed and the daughter of Charles Price, born TN, and Katie Samples, born TN. Son of Reverend Henry Price, Methodist Evangelist to the Cherokee Nation, and Susan Stultz. - Charles J. Price was Sheriff 1846-48 of Bradley County, TN. - From McMinn Co. Tn records: Dec. 1852: "Chas Price inflicted mortal wounds on Wm Shamblin 5 Sept. 1851. He died 6 Sept. 1851". Thos. C. Wooten says in a letter (1936) "When the train passed over the bridge I walked over the bridge to McMinn County so as to be able to say I had been out of the county I was born in. When I got across, there was a man on that side who had a barrel of cider and ginger cookies which he was selling to the public. His name was Shamblin. He was an old enemy of Charlie Price, son of Uncle Henry Price. They had fought about 7 years before (about the time Charlie Price was sheriff of Bradley Co. (1846-48) and Shamblin had whipped him. Suddenly Price walked up while Shamblin was squatted down and said, 'I owe you a debt that is 7 years old'. With that he kicked Shamblin under the chin, jumped into his face and breast and stomped him to death. Price was arrested and put in jail for the crime. He later went to California where he made lots of money. He settled in Barry Co. Mo. His family came to him there. He died of old age, quite wealthy." - Price Family History - Another Photo Notes

Canby May 26,1865, paroled at Alexandria LA June 7, 1865. - Account of father Elias Price's death: Excerpt from a 1931 Interview of Thomas Sallee of Exeter, Missouri: "One of the most noted guerrillas in the country at that time was a fellow by the name of Christian who claimed to be a Union man or Home Guard. He had a number of followers. His gang killed Ace Chilcutt, Tom Dillworth, Dock Harris and Elias Price who were hiding in the hills west of where Exeter now is. The men were all shot in the right eye and the top of their heads blown off. Their brains were taken out and put in their hats which were set beside their bodies. Tom Sallee's father helped haul the men in and bury them. They were all buried in one large grave in the old Packwood cemetery. - Price Family History Census
