He served as 2nd Lieutenant of Battery B, 1st Tennessee Light Artillery Battalion (aka Company B, 1st East Tennessee Battery). June 2, 2024 At Home, Prairie Grove, Washington Co., AR |
Research Note: Son of Howell Thurston Roddy and Maidelle Jackie (Kendall) Lloyd. Roddy was a man of great character and warmth, whose presence enriched the lives of those around him. Roddy's journey began in Texas, where he attended Beaumont High School, followed by earning his Business Management degree from the University of Texas in Arlington. His passion for service led him to join the Navy, where he served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. Roddy's sense of duty extended into his civilian life, where he became a pillar of his community through various roles, including serving as the Washington County Republican Committee Chairman, and Justice of the Peace for Washington County District 2. His commitment to education and security was evident through his work as the Head of Security at Mercy and Grace Cathedral in Springdale and as an Educator and Bus Driver at Springdale and Prairie Grove Public Schools. Roddy's life was a testament to the power of love and commitment, as reflected in his 36 years of marriage to his loving wife, Sharon (Jay) Lloyd. Together, they raised a family that included two sons, Dustin Roddy Lloyd and Spencer Jay Lloyd, and a daughter, Amanda Jean (Lloyd) Godwin, who, along with their respective spouses Mindy, Anslee, and Christopher, brought joy and pride to Roddy's life. His legacy continues through his four cherished grandchildren, Chassie, Zoey, Barrett, and Ty. Roddy was a brother to Jerry Randall Lloyd and Robert Sherrill Lloyd, and their spouses Ruth and Kathy, who shared in the richness of his life. Roddy's love for the great outdoors was unmistakable. He found solace and excitement in fishing, hunting, shooting, and cruising, and he cherished the freedom of being a pilot, soaring above the landscapes he so loved. Those who knew Roddy would describe him as strong, caring and loyal. He was a devoted member of Mercy and Grace Cathedral, where his spirit and dedication were felt by all. Roddy's life was a reflection of his values, and he lived each day with a heart full of gratitude and service. Roddy's departure is deeply felt by his family, who are comforted by the indelible mark he left on their hearts and lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.T. Roddy and Jackie Lloyd. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his brothers, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Roddy Lloyd was a beacon of light and love, and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering devotion to family and community. Inscription: "MISSOURI PVT CO H REGT CAVALRY CIVIL WAR" - Research Note: There is no one buried here - just a stone. He is probably buried in Corsicana Cemetery with his wife Nancy Matilda Fly. - Ted Roller's comments: I had told Jack Fly that the stone did not have a body under it using dousing rods. We followed up. Loren Roden knew that there were some CW soldiers found at Clio and he ordered a stone near Old Bob Town where James was known to live last with his wife. He had it placed where it stands as is, as a memory to James. I think this is just as good a placement as Corsicana as I have no prove otherwise. Jack Fly and Nancy are close friends and may have started the story further. The James Roden lived at Bethel area also and could be buried there? Someone may have proof of a burial at Corsicana?? He lived near Corsicana after the CW on 40 acres. I have the abstract. - Cassville Republican, May 11, 1899 - James Roden died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Samuel Bailie, in Mountain township. Born in Giles Co., Tennessee, he came to Barry County in the 1840's. He married three times. His first wife was a sister of Asher Fly of Jenkins, by whom he had five children. His second wife died on the Gasconade shortly after giving birth to twins. The babies were given to a neighbor woman and Mr. Roden went to war. A few years ago he looked up his twins. One had died and the other was doing well. His third wife was Miss Nancy Salmon, sister of Mrs. Samuel Bailie. | Note Ted Roller Online Obit Phyllis Long Photo Diana Cope |
