Research Note: She was listed as "Miss Banana Atkinson" in the King Funeral Home Records. The transcription states that she died of pneumonia. Order given by Marshall Atkisson on funeral plans. - Cassville Democrat, April 4, 1908 - Miss Bammie Atkisson Dies in Kansas City - Miss Alabama "Bammie" Atkisson's many young friends in Cassville were made very sad Saturday, when they learned by a telegram from E. A. Atkisson at Kansas City to his nephew, Robt. Atkisson of Cassville, that she died Friday evening, March 27, 1908, of an acute stomach trouble, after an illness of two months, age 19 years, 4 months and 6 days. The remains were shipped to Aurora, thence conveyed to the Clay Hill Cemetery near Madry, where they were laid to rest at 2 p.m. Sunday. Miss Bammie was the youngest daughter of the late Ex County Clerk Lafayette Atkisson of this county and Rachel Margaret Smith. She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fannie Stipp, who was unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness. Her brother, R. A. Suttles on Jan. 21, 1894 in Barry Co., MO. - Cassville Republican, Thursday, November 14, 1912 - Silvan Atkisson died Friday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock at the Burge Deaconess hospital in Springfield following an operation for appendicitis. He lived only a short time after the operation was performed. His body was brought to Monett, Saturday, and buried at the Clay Hill Cemetery near Madry, Sunday afternoon in the presences of a large number of friends and relatives. Silvan was the son of Mrs. W. H. Suttles of Monett and was born on a farm near Madry about 23 years ago. He had spent most of his life in Cassville where he was held in high esteem. He was a young man of industry and of a generous impulse. His many friends here were grieved to learn of his death. She had worked at a garment factory, tomato canning factory, and as a waitress. She married John C. Oak in WA, from this union two children were born. He preceded her in death. She then married Fred E. Brown in AZ and six more children were born. Fred preceded her in death June 4, 1984. In 1985, Betty married Lloyd Berry in AR and he preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1996. Her two sons, James and John Brown, and three brothers, Miles, Chet, and Richard Tippery also preceded her in death. She will be sadly missed by her six children. SSW: Lucy May - Research Note: Son of James Henderson Berry and Ellen Louvinnia Berry. - Note at ancestry.com: Frank worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a section hand. However, his life long vocation was that of farming. With only a third grade education he was considered an expert judge of livestock. He was interested in new farm techniques and often attended Missouri Farm Association meetings. The first family automobile was a 1924 Model T Ford but he never learned to drive. Although Frank was considered to be a good fellow, his children did respect his discipline, which was exercised with a well placed boot toe rather than a switch. He and May attended church at the Baptist Church in Aurora. Frank's favorite past time in his later years was sitting in his old wooden rocker on the front porch and greeting everyone as they went by. A man of few words but a smile always. | Headstone J. T. Besides all the usual housekeeping, she made clothes and quilts and supervised the "production garden". She was a good cook and always had a bowl of her fresh sliced, cooked apples on the table, along with gravy at every meal. She was a hard worker and was known to go out to the chicken coop and chop off the chicken head on the old tree stump; pluck the feathers and fry it up for supper. You never heard a complaint or unkind word from May. She and Frank attended church at the Baptist Church in Aurora, Missouri. Her favorite past time in her later years was to sit on the front porch with Frank, usually with a bowl of green beans to snap or preparing something else that was to be cooked later. She always enjoyed having company, especially her children and their families. Since she nor Frank ever drove, they were used to walking to town but when company came, May was happy to travel in their cars. She was very modest; even to the extent of pinning a dish towel over the photo on a calendar of a model from her neck down because the model was wearing shorts. | Headstone J. T. Vernon, Chester Cox of Ozark, and Cledus Cox of London, Arkansas; three sisters, Nola Harris and Frances Gryder, both of Aurora, and Opal Gryder of Cassville; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. tomorrow, September 2, at Clay Hill Cemetery under the direction of Peterson Funeral Home of Aurora.
