May 20, 1923 Rural Wheaton, Barry Co., MO |
Inscription: "Wife of A. McGlothlin" - Research Note: Andrew McGlothlin was united in marriage to Caroline Woods Dec. 5, 1880. - Wheaton Journal, Friday, June 1, 1923 - Mrs. Carolina McGlothlin, wife of Andrew McGlothlin, died Wednesday, May 20, 1923 in her home south of town. Death came as a welcome relief from the suffering she has endured for the past two years caused by paralysis. Carolina Woods was born May 10, 1860 in Illinois, moving to Texas at an early age and living with a sister after the death of her parents. At about the age of 18 she moved to Rolla, Mo., and on Dec. 5, 1880 was married to Andrew McGlothlin. To this union were born four children: Horace, Arthur, Myrtle and Fred. Horace died at the age of three and Myrtle at the age of sixteen. Arthur and Fred are both living in and around Wheaton. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Julia Morris of Joplin and a brother in Oklahoma. In 1882 she was converted at a meeting in Rocky Comfort and became a member of the Baptist Church at that place, later moving her membership to Wheaton when the Baptist church was organized there. She was buried in the Chitwood Cemetery south of here. Due to the late arrival of the hearse caused by motor trouble, the funeral was postponed and will be preached the second Sunday in June by Rev. E. C. Ticnenor at the Baptist Church. | Note Ruth Kent Obit Phyllis Long Photo Donna Cooper |

According to my mother, Vera Garrison Howerton, daughter of Ira and second wife Mary Etta Vassar, the McGlothlins strongly disapproved of their daughter marrying Ira, and when she died they buried her as Myrtle McGlothlin instead of Garrison. She has a tombstone in Chitwood Cemetery but there is some belief that she is actually buried in Hogeye (Overton) Cemetery under the large McGlothlin stone. This is unverified as of this date. - Another Photo | Census Online Newspapers Phyllis Long Headstone Cheryl Photo Donna Cooper |
