Stone likely placed when she returned from Texas after the War. Father of 15 children. - This is transcribed from Comstock-Haggard and Allied Families, compiled by Mary Jane Comstock; Adams Press, Chicago, 1973; "Brown" F192, pg 67.: Born July 11, 1816 in Kentucky, d. June 19, 1863 near Rocky Comfort, Missouri, buried in the Chitwood Cemetery at Rocky Comfort, married June 29, 1836 at St. Francois County, Mo., to Rebecca Poindexter Jones, born Nov. 4, 1822, died Feb. 10, 1912, the daughter of Richard Jones and Dorothy A. Poindexter (see the Jones and Poindexter families and F245). Their marriage is on page two of the earliest marriages existing. There are a number of stories that have been passed down and those years in Missouri must have been difficult ones. Murphy and his son, Ezekiel, were at the blacksmiths when they were killed by, "bushwhackers". The whole town was afraid but word was sent to Becky. It is said she took a wagon, and with one or two of her older children, she went to get the bodies of her husband and son. She took them to the cemetery, dug a single grave, and buried them together. Becky had fifteen children and saw thirteen of them buried. During the war, she rode a mule and carried food to relatives in need. In her later years, she traveled between her married children, living with each awhile. | Family Records Obit Kay Haden History Phyllis Long Photo Donna Cooper |
