Sept. 1, 1942 Corsicana, Barry Co., MO |
SSW: Emma F. - Inscription: "Father" - Research Note: Story on findagrave.com - Ollie Monroe was the son of James Wesley Ennes and Emma (Henderson) Ennes. Born in March 14, 1887 and dying at the age of 55 September 1, 1942 Ollie Monroe Ennes was the father of 5 children. He enjoyed singing in quartets. He was a preacher who didn't have his own church but traveled around and filled in wherever they needed a preacher. He was considered to be a Methodist but preached in Baptist churches too. His grandchildren would accompany him. They visited some pretty small town churches where foot washing at the front of the sanctuary was customary. Ollie's children: Thelma who was called by Loraine, her middle name, was the oldest child. Then next came Ruby, another daughter, Aubrey, a son, Ozelle, another daughter and finally another daughter called Tooter (who's real name was Dorthy Imogene). Ollie didn't want Thelma to marry Lyle Black and wouldn't give permission. So she waited until she was 21 and married him anyway. The other children were not so respectful and eloped as Ollie didn't approve of their choice of spouses either. Ozelle went to Kansas to marry Max-- he worked for the railroad as a brakeman and was killed by a train January 20, 1960 after fathering Mary Jane (b. 1942) and Gary Max (b. 1944). Ozelle and Max had just built a house and thankfully taken out mortgage insurance. After Max died the house was paid for and Ozelle, who was a hairdresser, also lived off the pension from the railroad. When the youngest, Tooter married Jack they hid at Loraine's and Lyle's house, not living there but spending much time until they were told, while sitting on the couch one evening they might as well go home, Ollie knew they were married. Jack was in the service and WWII was going on. - Son of Rev.
