SSW: Cecil "Jew" May - Inscription: Married Sept. 10, 1966 - Research Note: Daughter of Thomas and Lydia (Glocksien) Hinds. She was united in marriage to Willie Birchfield, who would precede her in death, and to their union six children were born. On Sep. 10, 1966, she married Cecil "Jew" May and they had one son. Cecil preceded her in death on Apr. 10, 1993. Evelyn enjoyed working with children and would spend more than twenty years as a lunch lady and custodian for Exeter public schools. A long-time member of Blessing Heights Worship Center in Cassville, Evelyn was a woman of strong Christian faith, praying and reading her Bible daily. An avid gardener, Evelyn's flowers could rival those on any magazine cover. Evelyn enjoyed cooking and no one ever stayed hungry for very long with her around. She took great pride in tending to her house, always keeping it positively spotless. Of all her many roles in life, the one that brought her the most fulfillment was that of family matriarch. Evelyn loved her family fiercely; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the greatest joys of her life. All who knew and loved Evelyn, knew her as Granny. Evelyn was a bright light in this world who will be remembered fondly and greatly missed. Survivors include three sons; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, Evelyn was preceded in death by three sons, Marvin Birchfield and twin boys, Wilburn and Delbert Birchfield; one daughter, Verna June Birchfield; one brother, Glen Calvin Hinds; two brothers in-law, Junior Ledbetter and Hubert Ledbetter; and daughter in-law, Beverly Birchfield.
