Wallace, Glen Wayne - Glen Wayne Wallace, the son of Gerald Lion and Mary Leva (Finney) Wallace, was born in Langdon, Missouri on June 21, 1923. He attended Cooper, Banner and Gumbo College, all country schools in the Langdon area.

Glen enlisted in the United States Army on January 25, 1943. As a member of the 1716th Signal Service Battalion, he proudly served his country during World War II and the Korean War. Glen was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal, and after receiving his honorable discharge he returned to Rock Port.

Upon returning home, Glen was employed by George Schomburg and Ralph Perry as a truck driver, hauling grain. He later farmed for Jim Burg, retiring in 1978.

On October 31, 1948, Glen was united in marriage to Betty Mae Winchel. They became the parents of four children, Larry Mac Harbin, William Andrew Wallace, Ellen Darlene (Wallace) McMahon and Lois Jean (Wallace) Noland. They were later divorced. In 1967, Glen married Evelyn Ruth Stout. They lived east of Rock Port, where their home was known for weekend family gatherings. Having enjoyed 35 years together, Ruth passed away in 2002. In 2004, Glen moved into town, living at Fair Oaks Apartments to the present time. In his spare time, he enjoyed serving his community by collecting trash in and around the city park and golf course. Glen passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Tarkio, Missouri at the age of 86 years.

Besides his parents and wife, Ruth, Glen is also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Mae; two granddaughters, Betty Deann McMahon and Betty Mae (Wallace) Barlow; one grandson, William Andrew Wallace, Jr.; one great granddaughter, Shana Ja’Nelle Wallace; four sisters, Mary Elsie Lutz, Leola Abigail Roop, Mamie Etrice Pinneo, Sylvia Belle McLin and one brother, James Evan Wallace. He is survived by two sons, Larry Harbin and his wife, Janie, Maryville, Missouri and Andy Wallace and his wife, Diana, Fairfax, Missouri; two daughters, Darlene McMahon, Des Moines, Iowa and Lois Noland and her husband, Sonny, Macon, Missouri; one stepson, John Stout and his wife, Tina, Leavenworth, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Sydney Arlene Fry, Sedalia, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews.

Weltmer, Inez Willard - Mrs Inez (Willard) Weltmer was born at Hamburg, Iowa on January 20, 1899. Her parents were Samuel Thomas (S.F.) and Rachael Anna (VanMeter) Willard. The family home was eleven miles northeast of Rock Port in the Grange Hall Baptist Church area.

When Inez was a small child, the family lived in Hamburg. She became a registered nurse and held Bachelor of Arts and Master degrees from the University of Nebraska.

In November 1923 she was married to Tyler Weltmer. they became parents of a daughter, Virginia.

The Weltmers spent their 58 years of marriage in Omaha before Tyler's death on February 28, 1981. Mrs Weltmer continued to live in Omaha until she entered the Bergan-Mercy Hospital a few days before death Jan 14, 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Kassel, New York City, N.Y.

Inez was preceded in death by parents, husband, and Ethelinda Willard, her sister who died in 1950.

Inez held a membership in the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 60 years, and retained her tie to the Grange Hall community and her friends in this area.

A member service was held Jan 16, at the Crosby-Kunold-Burket Funeral Home in Omaha. Final services were held Jan 17, at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Rock Port with interment in Grange Hall cemetery. Dr Mark Turnbough officiated.

Wheelock, Darrel G., 65, died at his home in Tarkio, Missouri on July 27, 2008. He was formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rock Port, Missouri.

Born in Filley, Nebraska on June 10, 1943, he was a former grocery store owner and meat cutter. He and his wife, Linda, owned and operated the Darlindy’s grocery store in Rock Port for several years.

He is survived by son, Gene Wheelock and wife Patsy, Crete, Nebraska; daughter Michelle Milke and husband Patrick, Adams, Nebraska; step-son Kevin Wehrli and wife Angela, Prague, Oklahoma; sisters, Jeannie Bair and Laurie Cornelius of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews. Darrel is preceded in death by his wife, Linda.

There will be no services. Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, is in charge of arrangements.


Wilcox, Harriett Antonette Lundgren, the daughter of William Martin and Otelia Charlotte (Erikson) Lundgren, was born August 10, 1916 in Page County, Yorktown, Iowa. She attended country school in Page County and graduated from Essex High School, Essex, Iowa. Harriett also attended the Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri.

On March 28, 1937, Harriett was united in marriage to John Harold Wilcox, Sr. Tarkio. To this union, one son was born, John Harold Wilcox, Jr. Harriett was a homemaker. Her husband John passed away on August 1, 1983. Harriett passed away June 26, 2008 at Northview Manor, Tarkio, at the age of 91 years.

Harriett was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the United Methodist Women, serving as an officer for many years. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, Fraternal Order of the Royal Neighbors of America, Royal Neighbors Club, The Thursday Club, The Wednesday Afternoon Club, Merry Widows Club, The Tarkio Young at Heart Club where she served as president for 10 years, a board member of the Tarkio Nutrition Center Board, OATS volunteer for the OATS bus and was selected OATS Volunteer of the year for 1996.

Besides her parents and husband John, Harriett is preceded in death by four brothers, Delbert, Leonard, Wesley and Vernon Lundgren; one sister Laurine Lundgren and one sister-in-law Hazel Lundgren. Survivors include her son John Harold Wilcox, Jr and his wife Marylyn Kay (Koger) Wilcox, Tarkio; three grandchildren, Johnna Wilcox, Arlington, Washington, Jerri Wilcox, Powell, Ohio, and Jamie Wilcox, Norman, Oklahoma; one great-granddaughter, Tessa Faith Keeney; sister, Myrtle Greever and her husband Keith, Shenandoah, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Lundgren and Nadine Lundgren, both of Essex; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.



Burial at Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.


Wolf, Harold Dean -

Harold Dean Wolf, son of Ernest and Essie M. (Martin) Wolf, was born April 1, 1922 north of Rock Port, MO. He was a lifelong resident of the Rock Port community. In his early years, he attended the Fairview Country School and Rock Port High School.
In 1945 he entered the United States Army and served during World War II. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Rock Port to farm.
He was united in marriage to Mary Katherine Shelton on Mar. 19,1950 at the Church of Christ in Hamburg, IA. After farming for a few years he worked as a mechanic and for the Missouri Beef Packers near Rock Port and was later employed as a machinist with the Eaton Corporation, Shenandoah, retiring Dec. 31,1988.
He entered the Clarkson Memorial Hospital, Omaha, NE June 21, 1998 where he remained until his death Oct. 11,1998 at the age of 76.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Mary of the home north of Rock Port; sister Bernice Grable Emberton, Hamburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Oct. 14 at Linden Cemetery, Rock Port. Oct 22, 1998

 

Whelan, Leo D. "Irish" -

Leo D. "Irish" Whelan, 75 of Hamburg, died at his home October 11, 1987.
Mr. Whelan was born June 3, 1912 at Watson Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Whelan. He was married Sept. 21, 1934 at Watson, Mo. to Irene Reedy. His wife died May 25, 1983.
Mr. Whelan formerly lived at Watson, Hamburg and Payne, and was retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after working 49 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Whelan formerly operated Irene's Cafe in Nebr. City for 30 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Iola Guhde of Nebr. City; 5 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Petree of Rock Port, Mo.
He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church at Hamburg, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way Emp.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at the Gude Mortuary chapel, Nebr. City. Fr. Mark Seiker officiated. Burial was in High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Mo. The rosary was Monday evening at the Gude Mortuary chapel.   Oct 15, 1987

 

Whelan, Leo D. "Irish"

Leo D. Whelan. 75, died Oct. 11, at his home near Hamburg.
He had retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad after working 49 years. He and his wife Irene also ran a cafe in Nebraska City for 30 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Iola Guhde of Nebraska City; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Petree of Rock Port, Mo.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13, at the Gude Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City. Fr. Mark Seiker of-ficated. Burial was in High Creek cemetery, Watson. Oct 15, 1987

 

Wright, Edna May Tudor - Edna May (Tudor) Wright was born at Glenwood, Iowa, on October 4, 1902. Her parents were Charles F. and Pearl (Miner) Tudor. She was married to Merrill Wright on August 14,1925, and they lived all their lives in the Rock Port community. They became parents of a daughter, Peggy. Edna was a homemaker and a fine seamstress and gardener. She enjoyed tatting and handwork.
The Wrights were active members of the Rock Port Church of Christ. Edna entered the Pleasant View Nursing Home in 1989 and her husband passed away April 2, 1993. Edna passed away at the nursing home on Wednesday night, November 16th, at the age of 92 years.
Survivors arc her daughter, Peggy Bonar and son-in-law, Robert, of Rock Port; two granddaughters: Chrristine Salidivar, Lakeport, California; and Melinda Bender and her husband Mark of Springfield, Mo; a sister, Opal Harmon, Rock Port; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Harry and Ira Tudor; and sisters, Frances McCall and Gracie Tudor.
Graveside services, directed by Pastor Carroll Fischer, were held at the Linden Cemetery on Thursday, November 17, 1994. Arrangements by Chamberlain Funeral Home, Rock Port, MO. Nov 24, 1994

 

Worl, David Lee, Sr -

David Lee Worl Sr., 65, of Carrollton, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 29,2001 in Carrollton. He attended Nishnabotna schools and joined the service at age 17. He married Hallie Mullen. He was a member of the American Legion and the Methodist Church.
Mr. Worl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Russel, DeWayne and Fred Worl.
Survivors include his children David L. Worl Jr., Theresa Ensor and Wesley Stogdill; sisters Lucille Schroeder of Harvard, Neb.; Isabelle Hale of Tarkio, Mo.; Sharon King of Ashland, Miss.; and a brother Marvin Worl of Gait, Mo., and several grandchildren.

Graveside services were Monday at the English Grove Cemetery in Fairfax, Mo., with the Rev. Allan Bash officiating. Dec 5, 2001

Wallace, William Andrew, Jr. was born May 24, 1969 in Fairfax, MO, the son of William Andrew and Nellie Diana (Hodge) Wallace. Andy lived his early years in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1987. During his senior year he attended the Vocational Technical School in Maryville to become an auto body worker.
He was united in marriage to Shelley Lynne Clark Sept. 25, 1987 at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio. They made their home in Fairfax while Andy was employed with XL Corporation at Phelps City. During 1993 and 1994 he worked for Graham Construction. In July of 1994, he established Wallace Roofing and Construction which he operated to the present time.
As a young man he was baptized and became a member of the Tarkio Assembly of God Church. In later years he had been attending the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port. He was a member of the Fairfax Alumni Association. Andy died Sept. 4, 1999 at his home in Rock Port at the age of 30 years. Andy is survived by his wife, Shelley, of the home in Rock Port; two daughters, Andrea Dawn Wallace of the home and Felicia Michelle Lee of Rock Port; his parents, Andy and Diana Wallace, Fairfax; paternal grandfather, Glen Wallace, Rock Port, maternal grandmother, Lucille Hodge, Tarkio; two brothers, James Wayne Wallace and Jeffery Michael Wallace both of Tarkio; two sisters, Martha Jane Johnson, Tarkio and Betty Mae Barlow, Chicago, father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Deanna Clark, grandfather-in-law and grandmother-in-law, Dean and Lois Aistrope, great-grandmother-in-law, Jessie Clark and brother-in-law, Mike Clark all of Hamburg.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Betty Winchel Kirk, maternal grandfather, Frank Hodge, maternal grandmother, Nellie Slemp and niece Shana Wallace.Funeral services were held Sept. 7, at the First Lutheran Church at Rock Port with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery at Fairfax. Minter Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

 

Cecil Raymond Wooten was born at Watson. Missouri, on June 15,1907. His parents were Edward Sanford and Anna Eliza (Davis) Wooten. He was baptized in the Christian Church in Rock Port, 1923. On November 24, 1934, he was married to Agnes Menson by Reverend McConnell in Rock Port. They became parents of two daughters. During the first years of their marriage he worked on the farm. Later he had a rock truck business and retired from City-Wide Rock in Omaha in 1971. At that time they moved from LaPlatte, Nebraska to Northboro, Iowa where they lived until February 1984. During the years In Northboro he worked as care taker and sexton of several cemeteries in the area. In 1984 they moved to Council Bluffs to be near their daughters and on January, 1985, Cecil became a patient in the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley, Iowa. He passed away on the afternoon of August 2nd at Mercy Hospital In Council Bluffs.
Survivors are his wife Agnes and two daughters, Mary Jane Jackson and Juanita Andrews, all of Council Bluffs. His 5 grandchildren are Everett Collins, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Vicki Rodriguez, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jackie Jackson and Cynthia Jackson of Omaha, Nebraska and Jeffrey Jackson of Council Bluffs. There are also 4 great grandchildren.

Cecil Raymond Wooten 78, Council Bluffs, la., died Aug. 2 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. He was born June 15, 1907 at Watson, the son of Edward Sanford and Anna Eliza (Davis) Wooten.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Dean Wooten and Fred Wooten.
Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at the Chamberlain Chapel in Rock Port, conducted by Rev. Carroll Fischer. Interment was at the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Chamberlain Funeral Home. 1982

 

White, Virgil LeRoy -

Virgil LeRoy White, son of McClelland White and Amanda Elizabeth (Foster) White, was born Feb. 13, 1925 at Randolph, la. He died December 30, 1985 at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, at age 60 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Virgil's mother died when he was 6 months old and he was raised for a time by his two sisters; Delia and Estelle.
He was drafted into the United States Navy in September of 1943. During World War II he was stationed in Bremerton, Washington and worked in the Naval Postal Dept.
About the year 1944 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Price of Mt. Vernon, Wash.They had one daughter, Elizabeth Ann. After his discharge, Virgil returned to the Sidney area and worked at Mt. Arbor Nurseries in Shenandoah.
On December 25,1947 he was united in marriage to Ruth Douglas of Watson, Mo.
In the fall of 1950 he was recalled to active duty on account of the Korean Conflict. He was part of the Naval Communications Department stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco, Calif. After this short term of duty, Mr. and Mrs. White returned to the Watson area. They are the parents of three children, Virginia Leigh, Robert L., and Wayne Eugene, all of Hamburg.
Virgil was employed by Inter-State Nursery for 29 years.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Grace M. White; one sister, Emily Estelle Wise and one half-brother, Charles McKonkey.
Survivors besides his wife and children include one sister, Delia Smith of Nebraska City; three brothers, Franklin of Stanton, Harry R. of Omaha, and Darrel of Council Bluffs; two half-brothers, Donald L. of Randolph and Earl of Carthage, Mo.; one step-sister, Carmen Kyle and one step-brother, Delmer McKonkey both of Malvern, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thurs., Jan. 2, at the Rash Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Gernand officiating. Interment was in the Hunter Cemetery at Rock Port. Hubert Woodward Post of the American Legion was in charge of committal services. Jan 23, 1986

 
White, Virgil L. -

Virgil L. White, 60 died Dec. 30, at Grape Community Hospital.
He had been employed at Inter-State Nursery for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Virginia of Hamburg, and Elizabeth of Washington; two sons, Robert and Wayne of Hamburg; two sisters, Delia Smith of Nebraska City and Carman Kyle of Malvern; and brothers Levi F. White, Stanton, Harry White, Omaha, Darrel White, Council Bluffs, Earl White, Carthage, Mo., Donald White, Randolph, and Delmer McKonkey of Malvern.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2, at the Rash Funeral Home Interment was in Hunter Cemetery. Jan 2, 1986

Wallace, Andrew -

Andrew Wallace, Jr., 30, of Rock Port died of asphyxiation at his home in Rock Port Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife, Shelley Clark Wallace, formerly of Hamburg and his daughter Andrea. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port. Burial was in Fairfax. Sep 9, 1999

 

Raymond E. Wilkinson, 59, of rural Shenandoah died Jan. 15, 1985 at his home.
He was born in Riverton, la, on Nov. 17,1925. He graduated from Westboro, Mo, High School in 1943 and farmed for 30 years in the Tarkio arid Westboro areas before moving to Shenandoah in 1978. He was employed at Hoover NSK in Clarinda from 1978 until retiring in June of 1984. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Tarkio Northwest Masonic Lodge #358 for over 25 years, the Fairfax, Mo, Chapter #373 of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Becky, of the home; three daughters, Virginia Sylvester of Sabetha, Ks, Mable Nenneman of Sidney, la, and Joan Coldwell of Arnold, Mo; three sisters, Louise Cook of Siloam Springs, Ar, Cloris Mather of Tarkio and Clara Larabee of Lincoln, Ne; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at the Westboro United Methodist Church with burial in the Tarkio, Mo, cemetery. Masonic services were conducted on Wednesday at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio. Jan 17, 1985

Raymond E. Wilkinson, 59, passed away at his home near Shenandoah, Iowa, on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 1985. Raymond was born on Nov. 17, 1925, in Riverton, Iowa, to Roy M. and Hazel P. (Wolf) Wilkinson.
Raymond grew up in the Westboro, Mo., community and graduated from Westboro High School in 1943. After graduation, he entered the United States Navy and served his country during World War II.
On Feb. 15, 1948, Raymond married Betty Jane Green at the Westboro Methodist Church. They farmed for 30 years in the Westboro and Tarkio communities. In 1978, Raymond retired from farming and they moved to rural Shenandoah. He then worked for Hoover N.S.K. Bearing Co. in Clarinda, Iowa, until June of 1984.
Raymond was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church, the Tarkio Northwest Masonic Lodge Number 358 A.F. and A.M., and the Fairfax Chapter Number 373 Order of the Eastern Star.
Immediate survivors include: his wife. Betty, of the home; three daughters. Mrs. Eldo (Virginia) Sylvester. Sabetha. Kan.; Mrs. Tad iMable) Nenneman, Sidney, Iowa: and Mrs. Terry (Joan) Colwell, Arnold, Mo.; three sis-:ers. Mrs. Louise Cook, Siloam Springs, Ark., Mrs. Claris Mather, Tarkio, and Mrs. Clara Larabee, Lincoln, Neb.; and five grandchildren. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and onedaughter, Mary Jane Wilkinson, in 1975.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the United Methodist Church in Westboro. Rev. Asher McDaniel officiated. Interment was made at the Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio.

 

Funeral services for Orville A. Wallace of Tarkio were held this Monday at the Davis Funeral Home with burial in the Tarkio Home Cemetery. Wallace was born Aug. 10, 1889 and died last Friday at the Fairfax, Mo, hospital.
He was a native of Maryville and made his home in the Tarkio area in 1928 where he was a tenant farmer for many years. He was a veteran of WWI.
He is survived by his wife Leona Wallace of the home, three daughters, Erma Ray, Lucille Hodge and Ann Lane, four sons, Barney, Eugene, Raymond and John, one sister, Velma McDragoo; 33 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.

 

Mrs. Elmer E. Watts, 65, died t at the home of her son, Raymond i Watte in Council Bluffs, Jan. 12 Funeral services were held at the Johnson Funeral Home, conducted by Mrs. Frank Anshultz, and bur­ial was made at High Creek

 

Mrs. J.C. Kirk and Mrs. John Winchell went to Rock Port Monday to attend the funeral of Eleanor Webster, a former neighbor of Mrs. Kirk's. Sep 15, 1988

 

Evelyn Weisenberger, four-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prank Weisenberger, died at her home on Thursday morning, following an illness of about a week. Funeral services were to be held at the High Creek church on Friday morning.

Walker, Mildred Katherine Cooper - Mildred Katherine (Cooper) Walker was born February 27, 1912, the daughter of Harmon G. and Grace M. (Meyerkorth) Cooper. She grew up on a farm three miles south of Rock Port and attended West Bend Country School. Her father died when she was 5 years old. She attended Rock Port High School one semester until difficult times caused her to seek employment working for Dr. Jack Slack and other families in the Rock Port area. Perhaps this is why she was an immaculate housekeeper and excellent cook. Her Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners will long be remembered by children and grandchildren, especially her homemade noodles, peanut butter cookies and pies. She made pies until her early 80's and Friday was "pie day" where we would eat one of her delicious pies and visit. She liked to sew (especially aprons) and embroidery in her earlier years.

On August 29, 1931, she married Arville Olin Walker at the Lutheran Church parsonage in Rock Port. They lived their early married years in Langdon, Missouri until 1943, where Mildred was a homemaker and led her three young children to Christ at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. After living in Omaha, Nebraska three years during World War II, they returned to Rock Port in 1946, where she resided to this day.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, past member of Lutheran Women's Circle, charter member of Peg A Way Extension Club, and Ladies Association of Hunter Cemetery. She volunteered many years for church and extension activities and served as Election Judge several years. Mildred was devoted to her family and home, and was very proud of her children and grandchildren, showing her love in many ways. After her family was raised, she loved to travel, go to horse races with "Doc" in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska and Hot Springs, Arkansas and continued to cook and sew for her family on occasion.

Survivors include her children, Shirley L. Barnhart True and husband, Jerry True, Kenneth K. Walker and wife, Patricia, Rock Port, Jeanne Garst, Watson, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Joni Sapp, Jill Niece, Jeffrey Walker, Michael Walker, Cynthia Burton, Tammy Canida, Garry Garst, Melinda Hunsberger and two step grandchildren, Beth True and Ted True; seven great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, a sister, Fern Rogers, Rock Port, and nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Arville "Doc" Walker on February 4, 1999, step father Ike Vernon, sons-in-law, A. J. Barnhart and Richard "Dick" Garst, half brothers, Harry J. Cooper and Clarence G. Cooper, half sister, Rosa J. Rosenbohm, sisters, Hannah E. Bressler, Heibe G. May and Helen G. Pollock.

Funeral Services were held Friday, September 22, 2006 at 2:00 P.M., First Lutheran Church, Rock Port with interment at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Walker, Helen Marie Ottmann -
Helen Marie Walker, the daughter of Fredrick and Trinka (Rosenbohm) Ottmann was born March 15, 1920 in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended the Banner and West Bend country schools, graduating from Rock Port High School in 1939. Helen moved to Langdon, Missouri from Phelps City, Missouri in 1930. Following High School she lived on the family farm and worked with her parents.

On April 12, 1941, Helen was united in marriage to William Walker at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Langdon. They made their home in Rock Port where Helen lived to the present time. Besides being a homemaker and raising their four children, Helen was employed at the Places store, and Pleasant View Nursing Home both in Rock Port. Bill passed away March 16, 1974. Helen passed away Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Bryan LGH East Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 86 years.

Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Port and a fifty year member of the Rock Port Chapter #440, Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Pfeil and her husband Gary, Rock Port, Betty Nixon and her husband Jamie, Council Bluffs, Iowa; two sons, Tom Walker, Kennewick, Washington, and Bob Walker and his wife Cindy, Forest Lake, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Debra, Sandy, Gary, Bobbi, Charles, Jeremy, Bill, Travis and Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jaiden, Will and Benjamin.

Besides her parents and husband Bill, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Harold Ottmann.

Services were held at 1:30 pm Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, with burial at Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.

Walker, Loretta Kay Flake - Loretta Kay (Flake) Walker, the daughter of Virgil Charles and Gladys Maureen (Kunkel) Flake was born November 13, 1940 in Craig, Missouri.
Loretta graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri in 1958. At an early age, Loretta received Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at New Liberty Baptist Church, Mound City, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to James Earl Walker on December 7, 1958 at the First Baptist Church, Tarkio. They had three children; Cindy Lou, James Rodney, and Jill Ann. While raising her children, Loretta attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1967. For many years, Loretta provided dedicated care to a host of nursing home residents and hospital patients. She was a loyal wife, an extremely loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Loretta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Panhandle, Texas. She passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at her residence in Panhandle, at the age of 68 years.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl, on June 14, 2003, mother, Gladys, granddaughter, Angela East, and nephew, Randy Walker.

She is survived by her father; Virgil Flake, and brother, Allen Flake, both of Canon City, CO, two daughters; Cindy Gabel and husband, Dale, Panhandle, TX, Jill East and husband, Rip, Richardson, TX, son; Rodney Walker and wife, Kelly, Plattsmouth, NE, ten grandchildren; Bryan Leven, Roswell, NM, Brandi Leven McGehee, Amarillo, TX, Benjamin Walker, Vilseck, Germany, Serena Walker Beutler, Anchorage AK, Randy Walker, Plattsmouth, NE, Alyssa East and Erica East, both of Richardson TX, Tim Gabel and Kyle Gabel, both of Amarillo, TX, Natalie Gabel Horner, Panhandle, TX, and 12 great grandchildren, living in Texas, Germany and Alaska. Other family members, Sidney and Carol Walker, Dale and Lila Mae Faulkner, Marvin and Cathy Walker, Barbara Walker and Rick Walker.

Walkup, Virgil A. - Virgil A. Walkup, the son of Arthur and Gertrude (Folden) Walkup, was born September 1, 1913, west of Skidmore, Missouri. He attended Loss Grove country school and graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri in 1931. Virgil worked on the Rankin ranch until 1935, worked for a neighbor until 1939, and then returned to the Rankin farm until 1946. At this time, Virgil began his own farming operation, where he worked until retiring. He enjoyed helping his son, Gene, with his farming until ill health made him unable to do so.

On October 1, 1935, Virgil was united in marriage to Ruth Elizabeth Currie. They made their home on their farm and raised their two sons. Virgil and Ruth received the honor of Farm Family of the year in 1990. Ruth passed away January 18, 2001. Virgil passed away December 6, 2009 at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Tarkio at the age of 96 years.

Later in life Virgil enjoyed woodworking, and he built replicas of the Rankin Mule Barn, Rankin basement barn, a hay barn on the Davis farm, the Walkup Grove Church, a covered bridge, the Currie home, a saloon, the old ranch house, and several others. These items are on display in the historical museum in downtown Tarkio. Virgil was a faithful member of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. He also served sixteen years on the Tarkio Township Committee.

Besides his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; daughter-in-law, Shirley Walkup; two sisters, Beatrice Dunfee and Virginia Knox; one brother, Kenneth Walkup; one grandson, Michael Walkup and one great grandson, Daniel Walkup. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth E. Walkup and his fiancé, Joyce Sutter, Tarkio and David A. Walkup and his wife, Margaret, Cleveland, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Ilene Emerson, Council Bluffs, Iowa; three nieces and two nephews.

Burial was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Wallace, Harold Wayne - Harold Wayne Wallace, the son of Eugene (Whitey) and Hazel Marie (Wallace) Wallace, was born May 21, 1952 in Fairfax, Missouri. He was raised in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating from Tarkio High School in 1970. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army, fulfilling the duties of Military Police, during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the service, Wayne was employed at the Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa, until moving to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1981. Wayne was a member of the Teamsters Union. Wayne passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home in St. Joseph at the age of 57 years.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Eugene; grandparents, Orville and Ida Wallace and Arthur and Sallie Wallace; numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his mother, Hazel Wallace, St. Joseph; brother, Roger Wallace, Burlington, Kansas; nephews, Derek and Josh; niece, Jennifer; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Watkins, Beulah Berniece Chapman - Beulah Berniece (Chapman) Watkins, the daughter of Charles E. and Kate (Spaah) Chapman, was born in Massena, Iowa on February 22, 1916. Her family moved to the Tarkio, Missouri area in the late 1920’s, where Beulah attended Pepperbox Country School until the 8th grade.

On September 18, 1936, after dating four years, Beulah was united in marriage to Wallace Ray Watkins. Beulah was a homemaker, raising their five children. She loved them all and didn’t need to say it in words. She was there to help them, feed them, and make sure they did the right thing.

Beulah was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was always available to help serve funeral dinners. Beulah was a past member of the Homer 4-H Club and the Homer Extension Club. She loved her home and family, they were her greatest joy.
Beulah passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri at the age of 94 years.

Besides her parents, Beulah is preceded in death by her husband, W.R. who passed away in 1986, and one brother, Lester Chapman. Survivors include her children, Bonnie Novy, Lincoln, Nebraska, Karen Kay Sturtz, Jim and Janet Watkins, Charley Watkins, all of Tarkio, and John Watkins and his friend, Lynette, Shenandoah, Iowa; nine grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; one sister, Viola Curtis, Cameron, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews.

Webster, Lucille Sylvia Bray - Lucille Sylvia (Bray) Webster, the daughter of Lyndall and Gazena (Hinrichs) Bray was born August 7, 1925 in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended school at Phelps City until the eighth grade.

On April 26, 1943, Lucille was united in marriage to William Lawrence Webster. They lived in Northwest Missouri and Eastern Nebraska working construction and logging. Lucille worked with Lawrence in their logging and salvage business. She was a member of the Tarkio Assembly of God Church, Tarkio, Missouri.

Lucille loved doing 'word search' puzzles and baking. She will be remembered best by her granddaughters for their baking cinnamon rolls and chocolate cream pies together, their tea parties, 'treasure hunts', going to church together and evenings sitting on the front porch. She also had a love for animals. She enjoyed raising chickens, birds, numerous cats and dogs. Her best loved pets were her dogs Mickey Duck, Princess & Pee Wee; her cat Missy Mouse.

Survivors include her husband Lawrence, daughter, Linda Armstrong and her husband Leo, son John Webster and his wife Judy all of Rock Port; granddaughters, Julie Shallenberger and husband Kevin, Omaha, Nebraska and Jill Webster, Columbia, Missouri; two great-granddaughters, Addison and Macie Shallenberger; one brother Okly Bray and his wife Mary, and one sister Delores Bailey, Abilene, Texas.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents.

Webster, William Lawrence - William Lawrence Webster, the son of John W. and Elenor E. (Johnson) Webster, was born October 23, 1923 in Rock Port, Missouri. He attended Red Star Country School, Northwest of Rock Port. He was a member of the Red Star Hill-Billy Band, which played at the Red Star School and numerous functions throughout the county.

On February 11, 1943, Lawrence entered the United States Navy, to serve his country overseas during Word War II in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged on December 1, 1945. On April 26, 1943, Lawrence was united in marriage to Lucille Sylvia Bray. They lived in Rock Port, Phelps City, Watson and Eastern Nebraska working construction and logging. In 1953, Lawrence began logging with his brother Willard for the Iowa Missouri Log Co. In 1971, Lawrence and Lucille started a salvage business which they operated until 1986 when they retired. Lawrence passed away Sunday morning, June 24, 2007 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 83 years.

Lawrence was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Tarkio, Missouri. He was a talented musician, and enjoyed playing the guitar and other stringed instruments from a very early age. He attended many local churches where he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing hymns. Lawrence was also an avid outdoorsman who hunted turkey and deer in the bluffs Northwest of Rock Port. He and his family enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips to Canada, Wyoming, Minnesota and South Missouri. He also enjoyed his dogs, cats and eating the fresh fruit off the trees around his home. Many times he and Lucille could be seen sitting on the front porch of their home. He will be well remembered for his reading of scripture to his visiting grandchildren each night at bedtime.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, March of 2007, and two brothers, Albert and Willard Webster.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Armstrong and her husband Leo, son John Webster and his wife Judy, all of Rock Port; granddaughters, Julie Shallenberger and husband Kevin, Omaha, Nebraska and Jill Webster, Columbia, Missouri; two great-granddaughters, Addison and Macie Shallenberger.

Wharton, Catherine Joan Rash - Catherine Joan Wharton, the daughter of Thomas M. and Beulah M. (Stewart) Rash, was born June 27, 1928 in Phelps City, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Rock Port, Missouri in 1946.

On May 20, 1951, Catherine was united in marriage to Martin E. Wharton in Rock Port. While living in France during Martin’s military service, Catherine was instrumental in establishing the first “Order of Rainbow Girls” in that country. It was composed of the daughters of American personnel stationed there. The charter for the new French chapter came from Oklahoma. She was also a member of the Rock Port Chapter #440 Order of Eastern Star, and the First Christian Church, Rock Port. Catherine passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 81 years.

Besides her parents Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Martin, daughter, Lisa L. Bock, brother Stuart Rash, sister, Elizabeth J. (Betty) Harmon, infant brother Harold, infant sister, Helen and nephew, Marion Rash. Survivors include, one daughter, Teresa Gayler and her husband, Joe, and one son, Thomas Martin (T.M.) Wharton, all of Rock Port; grandchildren, Captain Clinton L. Gayler USMC, and his wife, Mi Hee, Carlsbad, California, Kimberly J. Nuckolls, and her husband, Brock, Tarkio, Missouri, Tanner M. Bock, Omaha, Nebraska, and Tayler M. Bock, Columbus, Nebraska; great-granddaughter, Kylie Jo Nuckolls, Tarkio; sister-in-law, Docia Rash, Braymer, Missouri; nieces, Rita Hussey, Columbia, Missouri and Nita Bloss, Trenton, Missouri; nephew, Ted Harmon, Rock Port.

Wheelock, Darrel G. - Darrel G. Wheelock, 65, died at his home in Tarkio, Missouri on July 27, 2008. He was formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska and Rock Port, Missouri.

Born in Filley, Nebraska on June 10, 1943, he was a former grocery store owner and meat cutter. He and his wife, Linda, owned and operated the Darlindy’s grocery store in Rock Port for several years.

He is survived by son, Gene Wheelock and wife Patsy, Crete, Nebraska; daughter Michelle Milke and husband Patrick, Adams, Nebraska; step-son Kevin Wehrli and wife Angela, Prague, Oklahoma; sisters, Jeannie Bair and Laurie Cornelius of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews. Darrel is preceded in death by his wife, Linda.

There will be no services. Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, is in charge of arrangements.


White, John Louis - John Louis White, the son of Van Olin Alexander and Alice Elizabeth (Turnbull) White was born December 21, 1946 in Clarinda, Iowa. He attended the Tarkio, Missouri schools and private Catholic school in Kansas City, Missouri.

John lived on the White family farm East of Tarkio his entire life. His life was dedicated to caring for his mother Alice and managing the operation. John cared for Alice at their home until her passing in 1998. He passed away Friday, February 22, 2008 at his home in Tarkio, at the age of 61 years.

John loved spending time with his nephews and nieces, especially when they would help during the busy seasons or just go for rides through the countryside. He also enjoyed listening to music, gardening, painting, riding motorcycles, cooking and watching cooking shows. He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed by them and his many friends

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by one brother Foster White, and brother-in-law, Keith Phillips. Survivors include one sister, Sharon Phillips, Lewes, Delaware; sister-in-law, Mary Anne White, nephews, Bruce White and his wife Stephanie and David White and his wife Melissa, all of Tarkio; four nieces, Kellie Murry and her husband, Ronnie, Tarkio, Mary Kristie Meili and her husband Greg, Milton, Delaware, Karolynn Kymm Phillips Randall, Glendale, Arizona, Kathie Kae Jones and her husband Kyle, Clearmont, Missouri; numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Whited, Donald P. - Donald P. Whited, the son of William C. and Ethel (Noble) Whited, was born July 17, 1917 in Martinsville, Missouri. Don attended, Martinsville, Fairfax and Tarkio, Missouri schools. Following school, he began working as a heavy equipment operator.

On September 15, 1939, Don was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Adams, in Rock Port, Missouri. In August of 1944, Don entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II as a heavy equipment operator in the Army Corp of Engineers. After receiving his honorable discharge in August of 1946, Don returned to Tarkio and formed the Whited and Sons construction company, where they were involved in soil conservation work. In 1955 he added a farming operation including cattle, being particularly fond of Black Angus cattle. He retired in 1990 and lived in Tarkio until the present time. Don passed away November 16, 2007 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 90 years.

Don was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tarkio, where he served as a trustee, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of North Star Masonic Lodge #157 AF & AM, Rock Port, and was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite, and the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, Missouri. Don had served on the Board of Directors at the Bank of Craig, Craig, Missouri. He also enjoyed flying and was a private pilot.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters; Jewell Rinehart, Gladys Salfrank, Goldie Wells, Maxine Bryant, and Virginia Nuckolls; one brother, Kenneth Whited. Survivors include his wife of 68 years; Bonnie Whited, of their home, Tarkio, two sons; William (Bill) Whited and his wife, Jeanette, Maryville, Missouri, and Roger Whited and his wife Susan, Bonita Springs, Florida, two grandchildren, Lora Ceperley, Lees Summitt, Missouri, and Lauren Whited, Fairfax, Virginia; three step-grandchildren, Jim Solheim, and his wife, Joyce, Omaha, Nebraska, Bob Solheim and wife Linda, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Jane Montoya and her husband Alejandro, Minnetonka, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren; and nine step-great grandchildren.

Burial was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Whitlow, A. Pauline Good - The Tarkio community lost a prominent, long-time citizen, Ada Pauline Whitlow, on January 16, 2008. Pauline passed away at North-view Manor in Tarkio at the age of 97 years.

Pauline was born to C.W. and Emily Good in Atchison County on July 31, 1910. She was raised in Hamburg, Iowa, and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1928. On June 3, 1930, she received an Associate of Arts Degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. After graduation, she returned to Hamburg and was employed as a bank teller at Farmers National Bank in Hamburg.

On September 26, 1936, Pauline married W. Frank Whitlow of Tarkio, and they resided in Tarkio until their deaths. Frank managed the local Buick dealership, and Frank and Pauline owned and managed farms in Atchison and Fremont counties. They were benefactors of Tarkio College, and were awarded membership in the Order of the Owls on February 1, 1973. Pauline was also a benefactor of the Mule Barn Theatre, and an active member of P.E.O., a local bridge club, the Tarkio Golf Course, and the Tarkio Presbyterian Church.
Frank passed away in 1976. Pauline continued to reside at her home at
1301 College until 2000, when she moved to Northview Manor where she lived to the time of her death.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Gib Good of Belton, Missouri; her sister, Ruth Tidrick of Evanston, Illinois; and her sister, Mary Gound of Hamburg, Iowa. She is survived by three nieces, Barbara Ford of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Bertie Lela Shawhan of Molakai, Hawaii, and Emily Gound of La Vista, Nebraska; seven nephews, Ferd, Gib, and Owen Good, all of Belton, Larry Tidrick of Elk Grove Village, John and Steve Gound, both of Lea-wood, Kansas, and Tom Gound of Lincoln, Nebraska.

Burial was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Wilcox, Deborah Jean Moore - Deborah Jean (Moore) Wilcox was born February 23, 1958 in Fairfax, Missouri to James F. and Imogene (Mutchler) Moore. She attended Fairfax R-3 School, graduating in 1976. After graduation, she attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri, where she met her husband, Ronald.

Debbie and Ronald were united in marriage January 19, 1980. To this marriage, three children were born; Joyanne, 17, Jonathan, 14 and Joshua, 12. Debbie was a devoted wife and mother. She passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 in Washington.

Debbie is preceded in death by her father, Jim Moore. She is survived by her mother, Imogene Moore; son, Jonathan Wilcox; sister, Diane Hicks and her husband, Dean; and nieces, Leasa and Lindsey Hicks, all of Tarkio, Missouri; daughter, Joyanne Wilcox and son, Joshua Wilcox, both of Yakima, Washington; sister, Jackie Moore and friend, Jim Schwartze, Glasgow, Missouri; as well as her husband and in-laws; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Burial was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.

 

Wilcox, Harriett Antonette Lundgren - Harriett Antonette (Lundgren) Wilcox, the daughter of William Martin and Otelia Charlotte (Erikson) Lundgren, was born August 10, 1916 in Page County, Yorktown, Iowa. She attended country school in Page County and graduated from Essex High School, Essex, Iowa. Harriett also attended the Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri.

On March 28, 1937, Harriett was united in marriage to John Harold Wilcox, Sr. Tarkio. To this union, one son was born, John Harold Wilcox, Jr. Harriett was a homemaker. Her husband John passed away on August 1, 1983. Harriett passed away June 26, 2008 at Northview Manor, Tarkio, at the age of 91 years.

Harriett was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and was a devoted member of the United Methodist Women, serving as an officer for many years. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, Fraternal Order of the Royal Neighbors of America, Royal Neighbors Club, The Thursday Club, The Wednesday Afternoon Club, Merry Widows Club, The Tarkio Young at Heart Club where she served as president for 10 years, a board member of the Tarkio Nutrition Center Board, OATS volunteer for the OATS bus and was selected OATS Volunteer of the year for 1996.

Besides her parents and husband John, Harriett is preceded in death by four brothers, Delbert, Leonard, Wesley and Vernon Lundgren; one sister Laurine Lundgren and one sister-in-law Hazel Lundgren. Survivors include her son John Harold Wilcox, Jr and his wife Marylyn Kay (Koger) Wilcox, Tarkio; three grandchildren, Johnna Wilcox, Arlington, Washington, Jerri Wilcox, Powell, Ohio, and Jamie Wilcox, Norman, Oklahoma; one great-granddaughter, Tessa Faith Keeney; sister, Myrtle Greever and her husband Keith, Shenandoah, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Lundgren and Nadine Lundgren, both of Essex; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wilson, Helen Dorothy Clark - Helen Dorothy Wilson, the daughter of Melvin and Josephine (Berg) Clark, was born September 8, 1913 in the Cabool, Missouri area. Helen attended rural school near Dyke, Missouri.

On March 9, 1937, she was united in marriage to Jack Wilson. They made their home and farmed in the Tarkio, Missouri area. To this union three children were born; Jackie Lee, Donna and Steve.

Helen was a kind and good woman who enjoyed her busy duties as a homemaker and farmer's wife. While cooking, baking and canning delicious food in her kitchen, she was often heard singing or yodeling. Helen and Jack were generous, hard-working people, always loving to share the bounties of their garden and crops. In spite of Helen's enforced physical dependency these past years, she continued to use her alert and sharp mind, and even her last days could laugh and joke, thereby illustrating her belief that life is short and should be enjoyed by making the choice to be happy. Jack passed away November 30, 1982. Helen passed away at her home in Tarkio on April 24, 2007 at the age of 93 years.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Donna Upp of Overland Park, Kansas, and son Steve Eugene and wife Glenna of Monet, Missouri; two granddaughters, Sara and Mindy; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband Jack, Helen was preceded in death by her son Jackie Lee.

The family expresses their gratitude to the kind and compassionate caregivers who assisted our mother this past year. They became her friends and enlightened her by bringing in the events of the outside world to her as she remained homebound. Helen thrived on the friendships and social life with her caregivers who even gave her a birthday party as well as a Christmas party.

The family would like to invite friends to join them at the Farmers State Bank community room for refreshments and fellowship immediately following the burial.

Winstead, Susan "Lucile" Dunkle - Susan Lucile (Dunkle) Winstead, 95, Shawnee Mission, formerly of Rock Port, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 25, 2009 at Vintage Park and Stanley Assisted Living Center, Shawnee Mission. , Missouri. She was born Feb 27, 1914.

Burial was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.


Winstead, Emma Marie Sickman - Emma Marie Winstead, the daughter of Herman Henry and Minnie Mary Flora (Sollman) Sickman, was born January 17, 1919 in Westboro, Missouri. Emma attended the Union Grove Country School in rural Westboro. As a young girl she worked cleaning homes and doing housework. She later was employed in Kansas City at the Western Union Café.

On October 16, 1945 Emma was united in marriage to George William Winstead, at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Rev. Nolte. They made their home in rural Westboro. In 1966 they moved into Westboro and Emma began working as a clerk in the Westboro Post Office. She retired in 1990 as Postmistress. In 2000, Emma moved to St. Joseph, Missouri to live with her daughters, Darla and Kathy. Emma passed away Saturday January 26, 2008 at Saxton Riverside Care Center, St. Joseph, Missouri at the age of 89 years.

Emma was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary for over 20 years, and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, quilting in the winter, gardening in the summer and was an avid reader. But her greatest joy was her new great-grandson Kendan.

Besides her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband George, her daughter Kathy Chandler, (October of 2007), and two sisters Lillie Blackman and Clara Sundermann. Survivors include one daughter, Darla Owen and her husband David, St. Joseph, Missouri; one grandson, Derek Owen and his wife Desiree, Lees Summit, Missouri, one granddaughter, Denise Owen Alexandria, Virginia; one great-grandson, Kendan; one sister Mabel Baker, Northboro, Iowa; son-in-law, Charles Chandler, Gilman City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wintjen, Mabel Elizabeth Herron - Mabel Elizabeth (Herron) Wintjen, the daughter of Jesse William and Mabel Venice (Sauceman) Herron, was born January 24, 1916 near Watson, Missouri.
She attended Shiloh Country School, north of Rock Port and graduated from Rock Port High School. She was employed as a waitress at the Ritz Café in Rock Port. To help the war effort during World War II, she worked at a navy shipyard in California. Following the war, Elizabeth returned to the Rock Port area.
On March 29, 1946, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Charlie Wintjen in Hiawatha, Kansas and they made their home in Rock Port their entire married life, raising their son, Terry Joe. Elizabeth was employed by Greenley’s Market for 17 years before retiring. Charlie passed away February 6, 1990. Elizabeth passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Community Hospital – Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 93 years.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, where she was active in the Wednesday Morning Circle and WELCA. She was also a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Elizabeth spent much of her time babysitting all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth enjoyed crocheting and making crafts, which she shared with her loved ones.
Besides her parents, and husband Charlie, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her son, Terry Joe, who passed away March 1, 2008; three brothers, W.H. Herron, Robert Herron and his wife, Dorthea, and Donald Dean Herron; one sister, Marrietta Watkins and her husband, Jack; and brother-in-law, Charles Knierim. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Wintjen, Pittsfield, Illinois; two grandsons, Kevin Wintjen and his wife, Denise, Hannibal, Missouri and Darin Wintjen and his wife, Shelley, Griggsville, Illinois; four great-grandsons, Austin, Dustin, D.J. and Stone Wintjen; two sisters, Betty Kesterson and her husband, Bud, Shenandoah, Iowa and Jessie Knierim, Rock Port; sisters-in-law, Lois Herron, Rock Port and Vera Herron, Kansas City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wintjen, Terry Joe - Terry Joe Wintjen, the son of Charlie and M. Elizabeth (Herron) Wintjen, was born July 14, 1947 in Maryville, Missouri. He attended the Rock Port, Missouri Schools, graduating in 1965. Upon graduation, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country for three years in a naval fighter squad, on the U.S.S. Saratoga, during the Vietnam War.
On July 2, 1970 he was united in marriage to Mary Roberta King at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port, Missouri. Terry was employed with the Missouri State Highway Department in Rock Port, the World Aero Space Center in Quincy, Illinois and also as a heavy equipment operator for Continental Cement in Hannibal.
Terry was a member of First Christian Church, Pittsfield, Illinois, Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port, and Pace International Union – Local 5-0205 also of Hannibal. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and taking nature walks, but he especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandsons. Terry passed away Saturday, March 1, 2008 at his home in Pittsfield, Illinois, at the age of 60 years.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Charlie and one grandson, Chance Wintjen. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home in Pittsfield; two sons, Kevin and his wife, Denise, Hannibal, Missouri and Darin and his wife, Shelley, Griggsville, Illinois; four grandsons, Austin, Dustin, D.J. and Stone Wintjen; his mother, M. Elizabeth Wintjen, Rock Port, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. Interment will follow at the Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 am at First Lutheran prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port. Military rites are under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapels, Rock Port, Mo.
 

Wolf, Verna Elizabeth Owen - Verna Elizabeth (Owen) Wolf , the daughter of Clarence and Dora (Oslin) Owen, was born February 18, 1920 in Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Rock Port rural schools and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1937. In her early working years, she was employed at the ASCS., and later with the KFNF Radio Station as a radio engineer.

On December 29, 1940, Verna was united in marriage to Orville K. Wolf at the Centennial United Methodist Church by the Rev. J.L. Walrafen. They made their home and farmed on the Tollie Wolf family farm and became the parents of one daughter, Phyllis. Following Orville’s return in 1945 from serving in the United States Army during World War II, they purchased the Richards farm, where they resided most of their married life.

Verna was a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was very artistic and created many lovely paintings on canvas, wood and saws. One of her greatest joys was music. She loved to sing and play the piano. Verna was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines and was a member of the Wolf quartet. She was a faithful member of the Linden Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School, was church treasurer and also played the piano. She was a member of the Linden Ladies Aid and the Lone Cedar Club. In later years, Orville and Verna found another joy; traveling extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, including Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Sweden, the Phillipines, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Korea. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She spent time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, taking them fishing and playing games.

Verna passed away on August 15, 2007 at the Pleasant View Rest Home in Rock Port at the age of 87 years.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis and her husband Tony, Rock Port; three grandchildren, Michael McKenney and wife Tricia, Bedford, Iowa, Mark McKenney and wife Christi, Rock Port, Anna Plattner and husband Randy, Marshall, Missouri; six greatgrandchildren, Jacob McKenney, Clara Joy McKenney, Kade Plattner, Montana Plattner, Ariana McKenney, Breana McKenney; sister, Jean McLain, Tuscon, Arizona; brother-in-law, Donald Wolf, Rock Port.


Besides her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband Orville in August of 2001; five sisters, Dottie Herron, Ellen Tiemeyer, Myrtle Tiemeyer, Mildred Ohrt, Esther Wolf; one brother Leo Owen.

Wolf, Donald Lee - Donald Lee Wolf was born September 5, 1913 to Tollie and Anna May (Boettner) Wolf, in the Fairview Community north of Rock Port, Missouri. He grew up and worked on the family farm with his parents, brother and sister. In his early years, he attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1933. In high school, he sang in Glee Club and played in Orchestra and band. He made many fine pieces of walnut furniture in Manual Training and painted numerous oil and water color scenes.

On March 10, 1940, Donald was united in marriage to Esther Leigh Owen at the Christian Church in Oregon, Missouri. They spent 64 years together. Their home was blessed with two daughters, Donna and Linda. They made their home, farmed and raised their family in the Fairview Community. In 2003, they moved to an apartment in Rock Port. Esther passed away in 2005. Donald passed away Wednesday, September, 30, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, at the age of 96 years.

Donald was a dedicated farmer and enjoyed working the land as well as hunting, fishing and kite flying. He wanted to leave the land better than when he found it and made many improvements through the years. In 1945, Donald and Orville, his brother, established Wolf Brothers, on operation they worked together until 1994 when health concerns caused them to dissolve the partnership. They were dozer operators and took part in building Charity Lake. They cleared trees so they would have more land, building terraces, dikes, fills and ponds. Donald enjoyed working the livestock, especially Polled Hereford cows, which he had trained to come when he called and was known for his gentle bulls.

Donald enjoyed singing with family and the Wolf Quartet. A highlight was to hear his daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren sing! His singing bass voice could be heard at church, or while driving the tractor or while tending cattle. Singing church hymns, playing the trombone, listening to Sousa Marches, ice skating, taking family vacations each year, going coon hunting and trapping were some of his favorite things to do. He enjoyed taking grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors sleigh riding, mushroom hunting, and fishing and would clean all the fish they caught!

He was a faithful member of Linden Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Treasurer. Donald was Vice President of the Linden Cemetery Board.

Donald leaves behind two daughters, Donna and husband, Ken Lucas of Rock Port, Missouri, and Linda and husband, Richard Stephens of Topeka, Kansas. Grandchildren, Ernest and Jill Stephens of Ozark, Missouri, Daniel and Melanie Lucas of Avoca, Iowa, Clifford and Brenda Morris of Augusta, Kansas and Jonathan and Kristen Lucas of Rock Port; eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin and Rebekah Lucas, Ella and Henry Morris, Ethan, Caleb and Ryan Lucas; sister-in-law, Jean McClain of Tucson, Arizona.

Preceding Donald in death were his wife, Esther; his parents, Tollie and Anna Wolf; an infant brother; a sister, Gladys; and a brother Orville and his wife, Verna.

Burial in Linden Cemetery, Rock Port, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapels, Rock Port, Mo.

 

Woodward, Yvonne Ruth Ellsworth - Yvonne Ruth Woodward, the daughter of Alvie Landers and Ruth Ellsworth, was born December 22, 1922 in Holt County, Missouri. She attended school through the 8th grade.

In 1970, Ruth was injured in an automobile accident in Denver, Colorado. This required her return to Missouri, where she was cared for by her sister, Martina. During this time, Ruth was employed by Northwest Missouri Industries in Rock Port, Missouri. In 1976, Ruth became a resident of Northview Manor Nursing Care Facility in Tarkio, Missouri, where she lived to the present time.

After Martina passed away, Ruth’s only family were the caregivers at Northview Manor. She was known for her big heart and sweet personality. Ruth passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the newly named Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at the age of 87 years.

Besides her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her sister, Martina Kephart.
She is survived by her many close friends at the nursing home.
