Naeve, Marian Baird, was born in Clarinda, Iowa to Dr. O.E. Baird and wife Mary Copeland Baird, May 30, 1927. They moved to Tarkio when she was in the third grade, where she graduated from Tarkio High School and attended Tarkio College. She then married Arthur Murphy and lived in Kansas City, Maryville and Sidney, Nebraska. They had one daughter, Nicholan. After divorcing, Marian and Nichi moved back to Tarkio where Marian worked at Tarkio College and The Farmers and Valley Bank for many years until her retirement in 1989. In 1991, Marian married Fred Naeve and they made their home in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Marian and Fred have spent the winter months living in Galveston and enjoying life at the Beach with her daughter Nichi and husband David Dunphy. She passed away on November 4th, 2006 at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas at the age of 79.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Fred Naeve, one daughter Nichi, and husband David and children David, Diane and Mark, step son Fred Naeve Jr. and step daughter Lisa Naeve and their families.

She was a loving and compassionate person whose gift was to reach out to others and make them feel special. Her bright and caring spirit will be greatly missed by her many friends in Tarkio, Cincinnati and Galveston. Marian had lived life with a heart of gold. She is now with the Lord and is looking down on us with love.

Services were held Friday, November 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio; burial immediately followed at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. Visitation was one hour prior to service, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Big Brothers and Big Sisters in care of Nichi Dunphy.

 

Nance, Virginia M. Stoner, the daughter of Ernest Harry and Myrtle Catherine (Parker) Stoner was born May 13, 1916 on the Stoner family farm northwest of Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1935. Virginia attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, St. Joseph, Missouri, graduating in 1939. She continued employment at St. Joseph’s Hospital, until entering the United States Army Nurses Corp on September 16, 1943. She proudly served her country as a First Lieutenant during World War II, receiving her honorable discharge on January 11, 1947.

In 1948, Virginia was united in marriage to David Nance. They made their home in Kansas City, Missouri, where Virginia was employed with St. Luke’s Hospital. In 1971, they moved to Tucson, Arizona where they owned and operated a motel and trailer park. David passed away in 1981. Virginia continued living in Tucson until March of 2007 when she returned to Rock Port. Virginia passed away May 1, 2008 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 91 years.

Virginia loved traveling and enjoyed taking many cruises. She also enjoyed pets and was a devoted member of the 22nd Street Baptist Church in Tucson.

Besides her parents and husband David, Virginia is preceded in death by her brother, John Stoner. Survivors include her niece, Pat Whitham, Rock Port; two great nieces, Candy Taylor, Rock Port and Lou Ann Pennel and husband Roger, Fairfax, Missouri; two great nephews, Scott Leseberg and his wife Julie, Rock Port and Mike Leseberg and wife Carrie, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Nielsen, Michelle Lynne, the daughter of Ralph Ewing and Lana Kay (Dillon) Nielsen, was born November 29, 1958 in Superior, Nebraska. She attended the Saratoga schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1972, Michelle moved to Rock Port, Missouri with her family, where she attended Rock Port High School.

She married Rick Phelps, and had one son, Michael Kent Phelps. They were later divorced. She then married Michael Pierce, and they became the parents of four children, Andra K. James Michael, Jeremy Wayne and Dustin Scott.

As a child growing up, her family nicknamed her “Bones”, which carried through to her adult life. Michelle had worked as a nurses’ aide and medical technician in area nursing homes. She was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhusker and Oakland Raider football teams. Her greatest enjoyment came from her children and grandchildren.

Michelle is preceded in death by her father, brother Scott, and grandparents, Victor Nielsen and Loyd and Dorothy Dillon. She is survived by five children, Michael Phelps and his wife Jennifer, Rock Port, Andra K. Pierce, Auburn, Nebraska, James Pierce and his wife Darla, St. Joseph, Missouri, Jeremy Pierce, Rock Port, Dustin Pierce, Craig, Missouri; mother, Lana Nielsen, Rock Port; six grandchildren; brother Michael Nielsen and sister Lisa Cooper and her husband Mike, all of Rock Port; grandmother Lorraine Nielsen, Nelson, Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Noellsch, Boneta Miller, the daughter of Henry K. and Mary C. (Lambert) Miller, was born September 26, 1916 in Mound City, Missouri. She graduated from Mound City High School.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri.

For the last several years she has resided in Omaha where she passed away, Friday, November 10, 2006 at a care center.

Boneta is survived by a nephew, Henry David Miller and wife, Susan of Georgetown, Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Olin Miller and Henry David Miller, Sr.

Graveside Services and Burial were held November 13, 2006, at New Liberty Cemetery, Mound City, Missouri.
 
Nielsen, Louise Roberts - Louise R. (Roberts) Nielsen, 86, Lincoln, formerly of Rock Port, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Noah, Mildred Irene "Myrene" Knight - Mildred Irene "Myrene" Noah died February 16, 2010 at the Fairfax Hospital. She was born June 7, 1920 in Grant City, Missouri. She came to Rock Port with her family in 1929 from Columbia, Missouri. She graduated from Rock Port High School in 1938 after which she attended Peru State College for one year before going to Central Business College in Kansas City. She attained the rank of Eagle Girl Scout while a senior in high school and was a troop leader for several years.

She married her high school sweetheart, Donald Eugene Noah, on October 24, 1939. They resided in Rock Port all of their lives except for four years during World War II while Don was training and on active duty. They had one daughter, Pat Noah Greer.

Myrene was employed by the Atchison County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Office for more than 36 years and retired from there on November 30, 1990. After her retirement, she did volunteer work for the Fairfax Community Hospital, Rock Port School Library, the Rock Port Baptist Church and the Rock Port Multipurpose Center.

Myrene was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church, a Past-President of Chapter DU of PEO, and belonged to several bridge clubs. She wrote and published The History of Rock Port for the sesquicentennial and later compiled Up and Down Main Street, the history of businesses in the buildings on Main Street from 1920-1990. Her hobbies included playing bridge, genealogy, cake decorating, reading and traveling. She visited 31 different states and the District of Columbia in the USA and Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein.

Myrene was very active in the Baptist Church chairing a number of committees. She was in charge of the nursery for many years, did the church bulletins and the newsletter for 10 years and was responsible for putting the church records on computer for the first time.

She enjoyed working on genealogy and wrote and published a book about her Benson ancestors. She completed her credentials for becoming a D.A.R. member. Later she worked on the King and Noah lines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey Benson King and Clarence Knight; her husband, Donald Noah, a step-brother, Welby King, step-sister Audrey Benson, and half-sister Phyllis Baker. She is survived by her daughter, Pat Greer, West Palm Beach, Florida, granddaughters, Lisa Greer Forsythe and her husband, Robin, Stacy Greer Underwood and her husband, Dr. Jay Underwood, five great grandchildren, Haley Forsythe, Laney Forsythe, Greer Underwood, Jimmy Underwood, and Ian Noah Underwood, all of Mississippi, half-brother, Dale Knight and his wife, Charlotte, of Grant City, Missouri, brother-in-law, Kenneth Baker and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Myrene embraced her Baptist church family, loved her country passionately, cared deeply for her fellowman, and was a devoted Missouri Tigers and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was one of their most faithful cheerleaders.

Noland, Virginia Faye Day - Virginia Faye (Day) Noland, was born May 12, 1923 in Lead Mine, Missouri (Howard County) to John Henry and Alpha Ada (Hendrix) Day. She was the 8th of 9 children born to this family. Virginia was raised in the Howard County area and attended the local schools.

On July 17, 1937, Virginia was united in marriage to the love of her life, Alva Lee Noland. To this union, seven children were born, Alpha, Elmer, Juanita, Walter, Roberta, Eliza and Joan. Upon the death of her beautiful Alpha in 1956, her children, Leon and Delma joined this family. In 1948, the family made their home in the Quitman, Missouri area and in January of 1963, Virginia’s husband, Lee went to be with the Lord.

Virginia raised her children in the love of family and most importantly, the love of Christ. She was blessed with an over abundance of love and she extended that to all she met. She worked diligently in the home-health care field and took great pride in her work and family. Family was the most important thing in her life, especially when she became blessed with grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She went to be with her heavenly Savior on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the home of her son in Hamburg, Iowa at the age of 86 years.

Besides her parents and husband, Virginia is preceded in death by her precious children, Alpha and Walter; grandson, Kerry Beasing, and brothers and sisters, Irvine, Jim, Lee, John, Nora, Allie, Edna May and Guy.

She is survived by her sons, Elmer Noland and his wife, Sandy, Hamburg, Iowa and Leon Noland and his wife, Regina, Tarkio, Missouri; daughters, Juanita Carmichael and her husband, Dwayne, Maryville, Missouri, Roberta Clark and her husband, Phil, Tarkio, Eliza Beasing and her husband, Bob, Rock Port, Missouri, Delma Brammer and her husband, Tom, Tabor, Iowa and Joan Stevens and her husband, Chris, Westboro, Missouri. Virginia was also blessed with 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Our world was blessed by her and we are all better for knowing such a wonderful lady. She fought a hard battle, but praised the Lord all of the way. We know that in heaven, her family and many friends await her.

Nowell, Dorothy Irene Minton Pierce - Dorothy Irene Nowell, 88, Oregon, died Saturday, Sept 18, 1993, at a hospital in St Joseph [Missouri].

She was born July 13, 1905, near Fortescue, to David Hampton and Dorothy Teresa Birmingham Minton. She attended school in Idlewild and Bigelow, graduated from the Loretto Academy in Kansas City, and attended the Kansas City Teacher's College, Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Dubuque.

In 1924 she was united in marriage to Erle Pierce in Forest City. He preceded her in death in 1925. She then married Jay Nowell in 1927 in Kansas City. He died in 1985.

Mrs Nowell had worked in adveritising in Kansas City with KCMO-TV, and Littman-Stephenson-Margolin Advertising Agency. She retired as supervisor with Aero-Jet Corporation in Sacramento.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit and the Athenum Club in Kansas City.

A brother, David Minton, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Sister Mary Irene Nowell, Mount St. Scholastica Convent, Atchison, Kan; and two sisters, Marguerite Bush, Forest City, and Sister Virginia Minton, Mount St. Scholastica Convent.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Sept 21, at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Forest City. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Father Michael Rice officiated. Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mount City, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Bridgett Dickason, OSB, Elaine Fischer, OSB, Chris Kean, OSB, Sheila O'Brien, Mary Palarino, and Linda Thomas, OSB.
