Maheu, Phil Edward, the son of Armand Eduward and Naomi M (Shandy) Maheu, was born December 9, 1960 in Agawam, Massachusetts. He attended the Rock Port schools.

Following high school, Phil enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1981 to 1986. For the next two years, Phil served in the Kansas National Guard. He was stationed at Forbes Field Army Base in Topeka, Kansas, and was an aircraft mechanic. During this time, Phil was also employed as a chef at the Menninger Heritage House, a four star Bed and Breakfast. Phil was an extremely talented man and considered his work as a chef the greatest expression of his creativity.

Following the closing of Menningers, Phil owned and operated a construction business. He also attended massage school and worked as a massage therapist. Upon his mother's return to Missouri, Phil sold his home in Topeka and moved back to Rock Port, where he obtained his Missouri massage therapy license and began employment at Pella Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa. Phil enjoyed the time with his mother and was glad to be home in Rock Port. He passed away Thursday, July 13, 2006 at his home in Rock Port, at the age of 45 years.

Survivors include his mother, Naomi, Rock Port; three sisters, Marian Bobo and her husband, Bob, and Jody Keller, all of Topeka, Armanda Powell and her husband, Joe, Kansas City, Missouri; five nephews and one niece.

Phil was preceded in death by his father Ed in November of 1995.
A Memorial services was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Grace Community Church, Rock Port, with a private family inurnment immediately following at Millsap Cemetery, Rock Port.

Memorials were directed to the Grace Community Church Youth Center. Military Rites were under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port.

Maness, Faye A. Hall, 87, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at a Rock Port care center.
Services were held Saturday, November 15, at Rock Port Baptist Church. Burial was in High Creek Cemetery.

Mather, Denny Ebb, the son of Paul and Helen (Stephens) Mather, was born September 17, 1939 at the family home on Peckville Ranch, five miles from Westboro, Missouri. He passed away in Hinterzarten/Schwarzwald, Germany on March 16, 2007 at the age of 67.

Denny graduated from Tarkio High School in 1957, and attended Tarkio College, both in Tarkio, Missouri and Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Missouri before joining the United States Air Force in 1962. After leaving the Air Force, Denny continued his education, receiving a BS in Education in 1968 and a MS of Education in 1970 from Northwest Missouri State College. He taught at Albany, Missouri from 1968 to 1972. He then returned to Germany and taught in the American Dependants school system at Hahn Air Force Base, Germany from 1972 until it closed in 1993. Denny taught at the Army American Dependants school system at Bad Kreuznach, Germany until his retirement in 1997.

Denny was united in marriage to Erika (nee Koch) on March 2, 1964 while stationed at the United States Air Force Base at Kassel, Germany. They had one daughter, Jo Ann, who was born at Scott Air Force Base in Alton, Illinois, on August 7, 1965. Jo Ann and her husband, Udo Fellenzer live in the village of Buchenbeuren, Germany – two miles from Denny and Erika’s home.

Denny and Erika regularly welcomed friends and family into the home they built in Lautzenhausen. Denny loved Germany and spoke the language like a native. He also loved coming home to the States to see his family and friends. Denny would sing one line of a song over and over, not very musically. That line was, “Take these chains from my heart and set me free.” He is surely now free of his pain and illness, and happy in the presence of those who have gone before. It has often been said that Denny did not have a mean bone in his body, which was true. But he fought a courageous battle to live through heart disease and cancer.

He is survived by his wife Erika Mather (nee Kock), Lautzenhausen, Germany; one daughter Jo Ann Fellenzer and husband Udo, Buchenburen, Germany; one brother P. Boyd Mather and wife Darlene, Des Moines, Iowa: one sister Mary Mather and husband Philip David Tully, Huntsville, Alabama; nephews Steven Mather, Des Moines, Iowa and David Mather, Minneapolis, Minnesota., Will Tully, Houston, Texas; numerous cousins; and two aunts whom he dearly loved.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Helen Mather and his brother Larry Mather. His burial was in Lautzenhausen, Germany, with Erika, Jo Ann, Udo, his much loved cousin Marilyn Smith Dewey and his sister Mary present.

Denny greatly loved life and his family and friends.

McElfish, Lorene Stepp, the daughter of James Hinton and Carrie (Hankins) Stepp was born October 31, 1916 in rural Fairfax, Missouri. She attended country school in the Fairfax area, until moving to Rock Port, Missouri when she was 10 years old. She later graduated from Rock Port High School in 1935.

On June 26, 1937, Lorene was united in marriage to William Joseph McElfish in Rock Port, by Judge H.P. Savage. They made their home in Rock Port where Lorene was a homemaker. Joe passed away in 1973. Following his death, Lorene worked for a short time at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port. In 1987, Lorene moved to Miles City, Montana, to live closer to her daughter, Peggy. They later moved to Lewistown, Idaho and in March of 2004 returned to the Rock Port area. Lorene passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, at the age of 89 years.

Lorene was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Rock Port Chapter #440 and a former member of Rock Port United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Marie McElfish, Rock Port; two sons, William Loren McElfish and his wife, Tetsuko, Silverdale, Washington, James Charles McElfish and his wife Frances Cruz, Union, Mississippi; three grandchildren; one great grandchild and one sister, Alice Ruth Webster, Channelview, Texas.

Besides her parents and husband, Joe, Lorene was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Duane Stepp, and one sister, Evelyn La Fonte.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17th, 2006 at Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery, also at Rock Port. There was no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Rock Port.

McEnaney, Timothy Donald, the son of Donald and Carolyn (Chambers) McEnaney was born March 28, 1975. He attended Westboro Elementary and Junior High School, and graduated from Tarkio High School in 1993.

Tim was in the Tarkio High School chorus, and was chosen to participate in the Four State Honor’s Choir. He was a talented singer and his many friends always enjoyed listening to him, especially singing karaoke. He was also selected to attend Boy’s State in Warrensburg, Missouri. Tim attended the St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Tarkio, where he was a mass server and was confirmed by Bishop Sullivan. He was a past member of the Morning Sun 4-H Club of Westboro, and enjoyed the many camps and trips through 4-H of Missouri, especially to Washington D.C.

Tim began his working career at the Tarkio Hy-Vee and the Atchison County Highway Department. He worked in Omaha, Nebraska for a time, Abilene, Texas for the Pepsi Company, and then moved to the Dallas, Texas area where he worked at the Benjamin Moore Paint Factory and drove a truck, hauling lumber. In 2005, Tim moved back to the Tarkio area and worked as a farm hand and over the road trucker. In the winter of 2006, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to his present employment as a service technician, maintaining fork lifts for the Frontier Equipment Company.

Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors riding his 4-wheeler. He enjoyed his time spent with his family on the family farm in Tarkio.
He loved his sister, Julie, and was so proud of her accomplishments. He made suprise visits to her many times over the years.

Tim is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cyril B. and Cecilia (Broxterman) McEnaney and Ralph and Catherine (Pocius) Chambers; aunts, Delores Miller, Sharon McEnaney, Sandy McEnaney; uncles, Larry Chambers, Ronnie Chambers and Tom Struble.

Survivors include Tim’s parents, Don and Carolyn McEnaney and sister, Julie Renae McEnaney all of Tarkio; numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tim was a victim of a violent crime, but did not die in vain. He donated his organs and carried on his gift of life. Co-workers, friends and family have expressed a loyal and true friendship for Tim. May the love he gave his family and friends, as well as strangers passing by, be a testament of his journey on this earth.

McQuinn, Don D., the son of Marjorie Nadine Morrison was born December 16, 1935 in Austin, Missouri. He moved with his family to Independence, Missouri, where he attended schools, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1954. On June 28, of the same year, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, to serve his country during the Korean War.

On October 9, 1954 Don was united in marriage to Janell D. Simons at Immanuel Baptist Church in Independence. Following Don's honorable discharge from the Marine Corp on June, 27, 1956, they made their home in the Independence area. Don worked nights at TWA while pursuing his real estate brokers' license. Once receiving his license, Don sold homes in the greater Kansas City, Missouri area, and for a short time in Butler, Missouri. In 1981, they moved to Texas where they lived for more than 20 years. In 2002 they moved to Fairfax, Missouri, to live closer to their daughter Nancy Hurst. Don passed away Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 70 years.

Don was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax Kiwanis Club, and the Butler Lions Club. He had also served as a Deacon at Immanuel Baptist and the Butler First Baptist Churches.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janell of their home, Fairfax; one son, Stephen McQuinn, Chillicothe, Missouri; one daughter Nancy Hurst and her husband Kevin, Tarkio, Missouri; four grandsons, Brooks, Brett, Dallas and Taylor; two brothers, Al E. McQuinn and his wife Mary Agnes, Naples, Florida and Morris McQuinn and his wife, Reba, Independence, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his mother Marjorie and one son Kevin McQuinn.

Mehaffey, Geraldine Ooton, the daughter of Willard H. and Ruth F. (Cunningham) Ooton, was born October 23, 1928 in Larned, Kansas. Geri attended Larned High School, graduating in 1947. She then attended Dickinson Business College in Kansas City, Missouri.
On October 10, 1948, Geri was united in marriage to Donald S. Raymer, Sr. They made their home in various Kansas and Colorado communities, and in 1958 moved to Parkville, Missouri. They were later divorced.

Geri owned and operated a business which helped unemployed people find work. She also worked in a ladies boutique, was the secretary at Park Hill Christian Church, worked as a receptionist, a restaurant hostess, and at the Kansas City International Airport gift shops.
On January 25, 1976, Geri was united in marriage to Jack Mehaffey at the Park Hill Christian Church. They made their home in Kansas City. On March 10, 1985, they moved to Tarkio. Due to ill health she became a resident of the Oregon Care Center in June 2006. On February 2, 2007 she moved to Northview Manor, Tarkio, where she passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the age of 79 years.

Geri was a member and Elder of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church, a member of the Mule Barn Theater Guild and the Tarkio Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, XI ETA NU, where she held the various offices of the chapter allowing her to be eligible to be a member of the Order of the Rose. She was also one of the founders of the birthday club.

Besides her parents Geri was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Kenneth Ooton. Survivors include her husband Jack, of their home, Tarkio, one son Donald S. Raymer, Jr. and Mary, Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Cynthia Ruth Frederick, Gladstone, Missouri and Marianne Davis, Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Linda Lee and her husband Dave, Tarkio, Susan Slaughter and her husband Bill, Fairfax, Missouri, Karen Potter and her husband Steve, Overland Park, Kansas; seven step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; brother Bill Ooton and his wife Ann, Franklin, North Carolina; one sister, Lynette Baccus and her husband Bobby, Decatur, Texas; sister-in-law, Marge Ooton, Weatherby Lake, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miller, Stephen Arnold, the son of J.R. and Rachel (Albright) Miller, was born April 4, 1942 in Lisbon, Iowa. Stephen graduated from Lisbon High School in 1959 and entered college at Cornell University in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Library Science. Stephen continued his education at Case Western Reserve University, Rockford, Illinois and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, earning Masters Degrees in Library Science, Fine Arts Administration and Adult Education. Stephen was soon employed by the Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska as a reference librarian.

On February 2, 1992 Stephen was united in marriage to Jane Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, Missouri. They made their home in the Shenandoah, Iowa area while Stephen was employed by Tarkio College, Tarkio, Missouri, as Library Director. Following the close of Tarkio College in 1993, Stephen was employed by the Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, as Director of Libraries. Following its closing in 2000, he was then employed as a librarian in Westboro, Wisconsin, retiring in 2004.

Stephen was a former member of the Tarkio Rotary Club and the Rockford Lions Club, Rockford, Illinois. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Librarian Fraternity and an avid lover of all books. Stephen passed away Tuesday October 10, 2006 at his home, north of Tarkio at the age of 64 years.

Survivors include his wife Jane, of the home, Tarkio; two step daughters, Amy Muller and her husband Jeff, Westboro, Missouri and Emily Parker and her husband Jeff, Ashland, Nebraska, one step son Justin Riggins, Westboro, Missouri; two sisters, Judith Heady, Ann Arbor, Michigan and Marilyn Mourse, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; mother-in-law Wilma Johnson, Westboro, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services were held, Monday October 16, 2006 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Inurnment immediately followed at the Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro. There was no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Stephen Miller Memorial fund.

Minter, Irene I. Thompson, the daughter of H. Clyde and Bertha N. (Wright) Thompson was born November 15, 1910 in Mound City, Missouri. She graduated from Mound City High School in 1928. Irene was then employed by the H. P. Green Firebrick Co. in Mexico, Missouri, then by Missouri Service in Rock Port, Missouri and later by Quaker Oats in St. Joseph, Missouri.

On June 14, 1941 Irene was united in marriage to Michael Duane Minter Sr. in Mound City. They made their home and reared their son Mike in Rock Port where she lived to the present time. In 1952, Irene was employed by Dr. Wallace Carpenter as his receptionist and bookkeeper, retiring in 1972 after 20 years. Duane passed away in April of 2000. Irene passed away Monday, February 26, 2007 at Community Hospital Association, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 96 years.

Irene loved music, and for many years, sang for weddings and funerals. She was a gracious lady who loved and was dedicated to her family, and taught the value of hard work. She had a joy filled spirit and always had a smile, especially when in the presence of her grand and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Jakie" to many close friends.

She was a devoted member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church; member and past president of Rock Port Chapter DU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, past Worthy Matron of Rock Port Chapter 440, Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and looked forward to the time spent with her friends in her various bridge clubs.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Fran Minter, Tarkio, Missouri; three grandsons, Shawn Minter and his wife, Jodee, Rock Port, Mike Minter and his wife, Julie, Huntington Beach, California, and Timothy Minter and his wife, Rachel, Platte City, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Andrew, Corbin, Braden, Alex, Gabriel, and Olivia Minter; one brother, Clyde Thompson, Santa Ana, California, one sister, Patricia Miller and husband, Glenn, Rancho Cordova, California; nephews, Kenny Miller, Greg Thompson and Barry Minter, nieces, Sue Jane Lidbeck, and Vivian Miller; cousin, Nick Lucas.

Moore, Anna Rose Fischer, the daughter of Martin and Susie Sophia (Amthor) Fischer was born May 26, 1908 in rural Rock Port, Missouri. Anna attended the Opp Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1925.

She was united in marriage to John Ernest Moore on March 9, 1927 in Hamburg, Iowa. They began farming in the Watson, Missouri area. A year later they moved east of Fairfax, Missouri where their daughter, Ruth, was born. Shortly thereafter, they returned to the High Creek community near Watson and farmed until their retirement in 1977. Ernest and Anna moved to Rock Port in 1982. Anna was a dedicated homemaker and "farmer's wife". Ernest passed away on October 7, 1986. Anna passed away Tuesday, November 07, 2006 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port at the age of 98 years.

Anna was a former member of High Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church. She was also a member of the High Creek Ladies Aid, the Lone Cedar Ladies Club and the Rock Port Garden Club.

Anna is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Merle Fox, Rock Port; one granddaughter and her husband, Mary Jean and J.C. Nixon, Omaha, Nebraska; three great grandchildren, Laura Atkinson and husband, Steve, Mike Nixon and wife, Angie, and Curtis Nixon; five great great grandchildren, Ashley, Riley and Morgan Atkinson, Will and Elli Nixon, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Deatz, Cecile Herron and Florence Bennington.

Services were Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, with burial at High Creek Cemetery, Watson. Moore, Edward Melvin, the son of Homer Jackson and Janie Liola (Cook) Moore, was born on March 23, 1922 in Rock Port, Missouri. He attended country school in Angel Hollow, southwest of Fairfax.

On October 21, 1939, Edward was united in marriage to Blanche Louzie McCall in Rock Port. Edward worked as a farmhand for numerous farming operations in the area, was employed by the Tarkio Rendering Plant, and worked 25 years for the Tarkio Pelleting Corporation.

Edward enjoyed hunting and visiting with his many friends, and spending time with his family. He passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 85 years.

Besides his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his wife Blanche, who passed away May 10, 1991; one daughter Elvira J. Kirkpatrick; one infant son; one brother James Moore; and two sisters, Grace Hughes and Helen Moore.

Edward is survived by his four sons, Melvin T. Moore and his wife JoAnn, Tarkio, Missouri, Garland Gene Moore and his wife Dorothy, Forney, Texas, Lonnie J. Moore, Burlington Junction, Missouri and Edward D. Moore and his wife Caroline, Afton, Missouri; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck Moore, South Missouri and Dean Moore, Fairfax; half-brother Jackie Moore and his numerous friends in the area.

Morehouse, Larry Albert, the son of Albert P. and Mildred E. (Vinzant) Morehouse, was born April 13, 1933 in Maryville, Missouri. He attended Nodaway County rural schools and graduated from Horace Mann High School, Maryville in 1951.

On May 31, 1951, Larry entered the United States Navy, and served his country overseas during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge on May 19, 1955 and returned to Maryville, where he was employed by the Robbins Lightning Rod Factory. In 1956, Larry was employed by St. Joe Light and Power as a Foreman Tree Trimmer and moved to Tarkio, Missouri.

On September 6, 1959 Larry was united in marriage to Delores Jayne Thurnau at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Craig, Missouri. They made their home in Tarkio, and reared their two sons; Timothy and Scott. He retired in 1994, as a Gas Service Man, after 38 years of faithful service. Following retirement he started Morehouse Tree Trimming and also enjoyed making glass arrowheads. Larry passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 75 years.

Larry was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Craig, a 52 year member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, and a 20 year member of the Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one brother Donald Morehouse. Survivors include his wife, Delores; two sons, Timothy A. and Scott A. Morehouse, all of Tarkio; one sister Dixie Baldwin, Kearney, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services and Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 9, 2008, Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the home of Scott Morehouse, 604 Maple St., Tarkio, prior to the service.

Teresa Ann (Moyer) Morrison was born on March, 31, 1962 in Hamburg, Iowa to Jack and Sandra Moyer. She attended Hamburg High School in Hamburg, Iowa. While attending high school, Teresa was active in track, chorus and speech. In February of 1980, Teresa married Larry L. Morrison and they moved to Watson, Missouri to make their home.

Until her untimely death, Teresa was self-employed as a groundskeeper at The Medical Clinic on Whiteman AFB, Knob Noster, Missouri. In her spare time Teresa enjoyed horses, bingo, gardening, Sunday night family and friends supper and New England Patriot's football (Go Tom Brady!!!). The door to her home was always open. She was a second mother, grandmother (Meema) sister and friend to many.

Teresa passed away on December 14, 2006 at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 44 years, 8 months and 14 days.

She is survived by her beloved husband Larry Morrison and her four daughters, Samantha, Christy, Stephanie and Carla Morrison; her mother Sandra Garrett; step-father Jim Garrett of Omaha, Nebraska; grandfather Charles Herron of Hamburg, Iowa; three sisters Lisa Hutchins of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Diane Gardner of Riverton, Iowa, Sharlene Valente of Houston, Texas; and one brother Casey Moyer of Riverton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father Jack Dwayne Moyer.

Services were held Monday, December 18, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at United Trinity Church in Hamburg, Iowa; burial immediately followed at High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Missouri.

Mulvania, Walter Lowell, the son of Jesse L. and Eva Viola (Stewart) Mulvania, was born September 20, 1905, near Phelps City, Missouri. Walter graduated from Rock Port High School in 1923. He became a student at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, graduating with a Political Science degree in 1927. He attended the University of Missouri Law School, Columbia, Missouri, graduating in 1931, and later was awarded a Juris Doctorate. Walter practiced law in Rock Port, Missouri from 1931 until 2005. He was a prominent and highly respected attorney in Northwest Missouri for 74 years, before retiring at the age of 100.

Walter proudly served his country in the Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II in the 91st Regiment Infantry.

On January 31, 1945, Walter was united in marriage to Eunice Mary Umbarger. They made their home in Rock Port, became the parents of one daughter, Eva Jo, and were happily married for 57 years. Eunice passed away May 6, 2002. Walter passed away July 24, 2007 at the Carondelet Manor Nursing Home in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 101 years.

Walter was a member of the Rock Port Rotary Club (since 1946), serving as president for two terms and of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49. He was a faithful member and former Deacon of the Rock Port Baptist Church. He served as the Rock Port City Attorney for many years, Atchison County Prosecuting Attorney, the Rock Port Telephone Company Attorney and as the attorney for the Atchison County Library. He served three terms with the Missouri Board of Governors, was an active member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and the Community Hospital Board, Fairfax, Missouri. Walter was instrumental in establishing the legal aspects of the Missouri Beef Packers, Rock Port.

Besides his parents and wife Eunice, Walter was preceded in death by three brothers: Laurel, Mitchell and Allen; and one sister, Leola. Walter is survived by his daughter, Eva Jo Van Meter and her husband Steve, Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Doug Van Meter and his wife Rebecca, Overland Park, Kansas; Kim Fulkerson and her husband John, Salina, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Judson and Mary Van Meter, and Will and Isabel Fulkerson.

Ralph Adams Moore, 72, died May 11 at the Veterans' Hospital in Omaha.
He is survived by his wife Pauline, of Rock Port; a daughter, Paula Wolf; a son Tommy; two grandchildren; one brother Oscar Moore, Jr., three sisters, Mrs. Elbert (Doris) Brown, Mrs. Helen Beasing and Mrs. J.H. (Deana) Boettner.

Macrander, Wayne - Mrs Gae M. Barger, 211 North Mulberry Street [Maryville, Missouri], received word Sunday of the death of her brother, Wayne Macrander, Tucumcari, N.M., who died Sunday afternoon. Burial will be held Thursday afternoon at the Center Grove cemetery, near Westboro.

Maheu, Naomi May Shandy - Naomi May (Shandy) Maheu, the daughter of Phil Elmo and Elizabeth Marie (Vanderslice) Shandy, was born March 18, 1933 in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended Phelps City School, to the eighth grade, and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1951. She then became a student at an Omaha business school and was employed by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company.

On August 21, 1954, Naomi was united in marriage to Armand Edward (Ed) Maheu, at the Presidio Army Base, in San Francisco, California. They made their home in San Francisco where Naomi was employed by the Brown Pacific Maxim Company. In 1957, they moved to Agawam, Massachusetts, and in 1963 they returned to Rock Port. Naomi worked in Auburn, Nebraska for seven years and at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, as a nurse’s assistant. They were later divorced.

In 1983, Naomi moved to Topeka, Kansas where she was employed as a domestic. Naomi then moved to Palm Springs, California in 1985, where she owned and operated a domestic service company. In 1999, she returned to Rock Port, where she lived to the present time. Naomi passed away November 13, 2008 at North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 75 years.

Naomi was a member of the Four Square Desert Chapel Church in Palm Springs, California. She was also a member of the Rock Port American Legion Auxiliary, Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, Atchison County Extension Club and Templeton Home Makers Club. Naomi enjoyed belonging to the Rocket Red Hatters in Rock Port and for several years, she helped with the Rock Port Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations.

Besides her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by one son, Phil Maheu and five brothers, J. W., Calvin, Gordon, Gordon’s infant twin brother, and Don Shandy. Survivors include three daughters, Marian Bobo and Jody Keller, Topeka, Kansas, Armanda Powell , Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Walter Shandy, Phelps City and one sister, Marie Joyce Shandy, Grass Valley, California.

Manrose, Donald "Rex" - Donald “Rex” Manrose, the son of Chester Arthur “Pat” and Marie (Watts) Manrose, was born December 20, 1924 on the family farm near Riverton, Iowa.
Rex attended school in Riverton, graduating in 1941, at the age of 16 years.

On May 31, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, given the duties of visual signalman. Rex proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on June 9, 1946. Upon returning from the service Rex came to Rock Port, Missouri. He was employed by his Uncle Lyle Watts at the Central Café, and later by Virgil Watts at the Ritz Café.

On March 26, 1948, Rex was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Burke at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port by Reverend Peacock. They became the proud parents of two daughters, Cheryl and LuAnn. For 20 years, Rex worked as a self-employed electrical contractor, and helped Burke & Sons Lumber Company build numerous homes. He then became employed by the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Rock Port until his retirement in 1986.

Rex attended the United Methodist Church for many years, where he served on the Administrative Council, Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Bell Tower Committee. He was also a volunteer fireman. After his retirement, Rex enjoyed his vegetable, flower gardens and being the “chef” for his wife. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles…in pen, and did extensive genealogy research on his and Dorothy’s families. Rex was an active member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port. He was also a member of the National Rural Carriers Association and Alcoholics Anonymous.

For Rex, his greatest joy came from his two granddaughters, Cara and Abby. He loved them totally and loved telling stories about their lives and activities. Rex passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 84 years.

Besides his parents, Rex is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lyle Gustason; and his brother, Duane Manrose. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, Rock Port; daughters, Cheryl Lindley and her husband, John, Wildwood, Missouri and LuAnn Hood, Bondurant, Iowa; granddaughters, Cara Lindsey Hood and her fiancée, Kyle Seidl, Dallas Center, Iowa and Abby Beth Hood, Bondurant, Iowa, currently a student at Northwest Missouri State University.

Marrs, Wilma Ione Asbury - Wilma Ione Marrs, the daughter of James Blair and Essie Myern (McCartney) Asbury, was born June 22, 1923 in Amity, Missouri. She attended school in Vinton, Iowa.

On November 16, 1946 she was united in marriage to Woodrow Orville Marrs in Tarkio, where they also made their home. Wilma was a homemaker and for a short time worked at the Tarkio Dime Store.

Wilma passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri at the age of 85 years.

Wilma was a member of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Tops Club, the Extension Club, and a former member of the Tarkio Chamber of Commerce.
Besides her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Orville Marrs, one sister, Lola Davenport, and one brother, James Wesley Asbury. Survivors include two sons, Darrell Richard Sturtz, Indianola, Iowa, and Larry Lee Sturtz and his wife, Helen, Tarkio; daughter, Patricia Elaine Gregg, and her husband Marvin, Oakland, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one sister, Doris King, Rock Port, Missouri.

Martin, Joyce Imogene Spencer - Joyce Imogene (Spencer) Martin, the daughter of Floyd E. and Anna May (Wilson) Spencer, was born January 6, 1923 in Martinsville, Missouri. She attended country school in Harrison County.

On March 9, 1942, Joyce was united in marriage to Willis Martin in Detroit, Michigan. They lived in Detroit for one year before Willis served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. In 1946, they moved to the Tarkio-Westboro area, where they farmed west of Tarkio, in the St. John’s community and then in the Westboro community. From 1960 to 1993, they made their home in Westboro, then moved to Rock Port, following Willis’ retirement. Joyce lived in Rock Port until the present time. Willis passed away August 25, 2004. Joyce passed away June 12, 2009 at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Missouri at the age of 86 years.

Joyce was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Westboro. Joyce was a loving wife and mother, giving of her time to not only her family, but caring for many foster infants and children for six years. After their move to Rock Port, Joyce and Willis were involved in craft shows selling Cabbage Patch doll clothes, and foot pillows. Later Joyce embroidered over 30 quilts which she generously shared with her family. For several years Joyce made dozens of cookies each week to deliver to Tarkio Academy for the staff and students. She will be remembered for her loving hugs and always seeing the best in everyone. She liked everyone she met.

Besides her parents and husband, Joyce is preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Gay Martin and Patricia Caulfield; and four sisters.

Joyce is survived by her son, Charles Edward Martin and his wife, Debra, Tarkio; daughter, Dianna Carpenter and her husband, Dr. Wallace, Rock Port; eight grandchildren, Jason Caulfield and his wife, Vicki, Dr. Jeffrey Caulfield and his wife, Andrea, Marieann Carpenter, Kera Carpenter, Dr. Martin Carpenter and his wife, Janel, Casey Martin and his wife, Jackie, Patrick Martin and his wife, Jessica, Mandy Levings and her husband, Eric; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Gloria Wise, Kansas City, Missouri and brother, Eddie J. Martin, Betty Marie Burson - Betty Marie (Burson) Martin, the daughter of Denton Robert Orlando and Leota Pearl (Liter) Burson, was born at her family farm near Strahan, Iowa on October 29, 1928. She grew up in the Emerson and Red Oak, Iowa areas where she attended country schools at Wales Lincoln, she also attended Bell Grove Grade School near Maryville. The family later moved to a farm southwest of Maryville, Missouri where she graduated from Maryville High School. Betty enjoyed playing the piano and her brother’s saxophone in band and at high school basketball games. She attended Maryville Teachers College one year, with intentions of becoming a Christian Educator / Teacher. This is where she met her husband, Carl Francis Martin.

Carl and Betty were united in marriage on April 17, 1949 in Maryville. The couple resided in Maryville, where Betty worked as a secretary for the Methodist Church in Maryville and at the Woolworth Dime Store. Upon moving to Tarkio, Betty worked for Carl as a secretary for Colfax Farmers Mutual Insurance for many years. She was an insurance agent, licensed under Tarkio Valley Agency with Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. She worked part-time and full time for the agency for over 30 years.

Betty was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church, were she was a faithful Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She was devoted to her church, and served in numerous offices with the United Methodist Women, some of these positions being at the district level and Missouri West Conference level. Betty was President of the local unit when the organization changed their name from Women Society of Christian Service to United Methodist Women. She also served on the Tarkio School Board of Education. Although she was very active and faithful to her church, her family was the most important part of her life. She went to all of her children and grandchildren’s ball games and sporting events. Betty was known for giving other kids rides to summer baseball games, and could always be found in the stands keeping score and cheering on the kids. She especially enjoyed the basketball games. Betty served as Den Mother for 13 years; helping her husband Carl, with the Boy Scout program while he was Scoutmaster. She helped the scouts achieve their advancements in rank by holding weekly merit badge classes in her basement. Betty was instrumental in all four of her sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, along with numerous other boys in the Tarkio Troop #88, and was the first woman to receive the Otoe District Scouter of the Year in 1975. Betty and Carl were chosen Tarkio Citizens of the Year in 1974. She also enjoyed toll painting.

Betty was known for her cooking, and one of her greatest joys came from the large family gatherings, where there was always lots of fun and laughter. She left a wonderful legacy of memories to her family. Betty passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Northview Manor Nursing Home in Tarkio at the age of 80 years.

Besides her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; sister, Pearl Klassy, and infant brother, Merrill Oliver Burson, sister-in-law, Julie Burson. Survivors include her four sons, Carl G. Martin and his wife, Nancy, Omaha, Nebraska, Chris L. Martin and his wife, Jeanine, Casa Grande, Arizona, Carol (Frank) Martin and Craig A. Martin and his wife, Cheryl, all of Tarkio; six grandchildren, Mindy (Martin) Hoffman and her husband, Craig, Carl (Randy) Martin and his wife, Nicole, Jessica (Martin) Moyer and her husband, Matt, Matthew Martin and his fiancée, Christi, D.J. Martin and Dillon Martin; two great grandchildren, Logan and Julia Marie Hoffman; three brothers, Orlando Burson, and his wife, Coleen, Euphrata, Washington, Robert L. Burson, Hopkins, Missouri, and Earl Burson, and his wife, Clara, Maryville; numerous aunts, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Martin, Leo Romaine Jr - Leo Romaine Martin, Jr., the son of Leo Romaine Martin, Sr. and Annette Marie (Butkus) Martin, was born October 29, 1958 in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended grade school in Westboro, Missouri and graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri in 1976.

In 1977, Leo was united in marriage to Laurie Wade and they became the parents of two children, Amanda and Seth. They were later divorced. On August 14, 1985, Leo was united in marriage to Kristine Marie Cowden. They became the parents of two children, Michael and Kelli. They made their home in Westboro, where they lived to the present time.

Leo farmed with his family in Westboro all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and any outdoor activity. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Leo was a wonderful father and husband and will be greatly missed.

Besides his mother, Annette, Leo is preceded in death by his son, Seth. He is survived by his wife Kris of their home in Westboro; daughter, Amanda Lauck and her husband Jack, Independence, Missouri; son, Michael and daughter, Kelli, Westboro; three grandchildren, Alexis, Lauren and Dylan, Independence; father, Leo Romaine Martin, Sr., Westboro; two sisters, Karen Mutchler and her husband, Roy, and Sharen Carnagey, all of Westboro; two nephews, Wyatt and Rene; and one niece, Aftin.

A funeral service for Leo Romaine Martin, Sr., of Westboro, Missouri, was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio. Reverend Hugo Villagrana officiated. Interment was held at Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro. Military rites were under the auspices of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Leo, the son of Leo and Neva Cloe (Smith) Martin, was born October 14, 1932, in Quitman, Missouri. He attended Eureka Country School in rural Westboro.

On May 29, 1953, Leo entered the United States Army and served his country in Germany during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge on May 11, 1955, and returned to Westboro.
On June 1, 1956, Leo was united in marriage to Annette Marie Butkus. To this union, three children were born: Sharen, Karen and Leo Martin, Jr. They lived in Westboro their entire married life. Annette passed away in 2004. Leo passed away on Friday, September 14, 2012, at his home in Westboro at the age of 79.
Farming was Leo's life and he always stayed busy, whether working in the garden, building fences or spraying weeds. He also enjoyed playing bingo. Leo was a member of the Merrill-Smith American Legion Post #32, Westboro.
Besides his parents and wife, Annette, Leo was preceded in death by son, Leo Romaine Martin, Jr.; grandson, Seth Martin; and brother, Paul Martin. Survivors include daughters, Sharen Carnagey and Karen Martin, both of Westboro; six grandchildren, Aftin, Wyatt and Rene Carnagey, Amanda Lauck, and Michael and Kelli Martin; five great­grandchildren, Alexis, Lauren, Dylan, Addison and Lea; two stepgrandchildren, Jesse and Hailey Mutchler; sister, Luella Barlow and husband, Don, Omaha, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mattson, Norma Ann Kloubec - Norma Ann (Kloubec) Mattson, the daughter of Edward Frank and Anna Elizabeth (Stelcik) Kloubec, was born March 3, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Norma attended Hayes Elementary, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Mozart Music Association, and a soloist with the all-city orchestra. Norma received a Superior (One) rating at State Music Contest from 1941 to 1946.

Norma attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at Drake and a winner of the Sigma Alpha Iota award for her piano performance. She was also a member of the Nu Phi Epsilon Music Society at Drake.

In 1949, Norma was united in marriage to Rev. Robert Paul Mattson. They became the parents of three sons. Robert was an ordained Pastor in the Disciples of Christ Church in Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Arizona and Missouri. He passed away in 1971.

For 36 years, Norma was the organist/pianist for the Westboro United Methodist Church and the Tarkio United Methodist Church. She considered it her ministry; sacrificing personal engagements to serve the families in her community. Norma also was employed in the office of Robert Rankin from 1972 to 1996 and served as a bookkeeper for the Tarkio Water Company and the Tarkio Golf and Country Club.

Besides her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her sisters, Irma Jean Kloubec and Darlene Kloubec; and brother, Edward Frank Kloubec. Survivors include her sons, Paul Edward Mattson, Scroggins, Texas, Rev. Jerry Lee Mattson, Williamsville, Missouri, Rev. Eric Robert Mattson and his wife Kathy, Hannibal, Missouri; one grandson, Daniel Mattson, Hannibal.

McAdams, Rosanna Sattler - Rosanna (Sattler) McAdams, the daughter of Otto John and Elizabeth B. (Kirchner) Sattler, was born July 18, 1923 in Herndon, Kansas. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Herndon Public Schools, graduating in 1941. After graduation, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she worked as a nanny. She then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she was employed at the Pratt-Whitney Defense Plant during World War II.

On April 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to Robert Stanley McAdams, Sr. in Olathe, Kansas. In 1944, they moved to Herndon and in 1947, they moved to Tarkio, where she lived to the present time. Stanley passed away March 9, 1978. Rosanna passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Garden View Care Center, Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 85 years.

Rosanna was employed with the Tarkio School District for 32 years as a cook, where she helped start the breakfast program. For a short time, she cooked for the Walnut Inn and the Blue Belle Café in Tarkio. Rosanna also helped start the lunch program at the Corning, Missouri Public School. Rosanna has received many honors and awards for her dedication and service to the Tarkio School System and her community, where she was greatly appreciated for her talents. Among these honors were Tarkio Citizen of the Year, Tarkio R-I Employee of the Year in 1985, and received a Retirement Proclamation from Senator Sam Graves.
Her homemade apple pies have made their way across the country to numerous family events. It was rewarding for her to see the pleasure her cooking brought to the lives of her family and friends. Rosanna was a member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Tarkio.

Besides her parents and husband, Stanley; Rosanna is preceded in death by two brothers, George and Kenneth Sattler and one sister Eleanor Romine. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia (Jeanie) Jobes, three sons, Robert S. (Bobbie) McAdams and his wife Shirley, Kenny McAdams, all of Tarkio and John McAdams and his wife Jill, Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Maryville, Missouri, Jeff (Shannon) Jobes, St. Joseph, Missouri, Tony (Jayme) McAdams, Omaha, Nebraska, Craig (Melissa) McAdams, Tarkio, Tiffani Caleb, McKenny, Texas, Curtis (Megan) McAdams, Maryville, Bryan (Meredith) McAdams, Chicago, Illinois, Holly McAdams, Union, Nebraska, Aaron (Chelsey) McAdams, Shenandoah; ten great grandchildren and expecting another in February of 2009; five sisters, LaVerne Calhoun, Clear Lake, Iowa, Alvina Smith, Atwood, Kansas, Marge McLaren, Chanute, Kansas, Doris Jean Riener, Palisad, Nebraska, Bernadine Pfannenstiel, Westminster, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews.

McCall, James - A memorial service was held on Monday, October 26, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church-UCC in Grand Junction, CO, for James L. McCall, 86, of Grand Junction. Reverend Sharyl Peterson officiated. Burial will be made on Saturday, November 7, at 2 p.m. at the Center Grove Cemetery near Westboro, MO. Pastor David Wynn will officiate. Graveside services are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio.
Jim was born in Downing, MO, on April 11, 1923. He grew up in Tarkio where he graduated from high school and attended Tarkio College.
Jim will be remembered for his 32 years in the Air Force as a pilot, rising to Colonel. His Tarkio family and friends followed his career from his induction at Atchison, KS, in 1942. Jim completed basic training at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri; Aviation Cadet Training at San Antonio, TX; Primary Flight Training at Pine Bluff, AK; Advanced Training at Eagle Pass, TX; and P-47 training at Winfield, TX.
Jim served as a pilot operations’ officer and unit commander. He was a pilot of P-47s and C-47s in India. He was a pilot and squadron intelligence officer in WB-29s in Korea. Jim was a staff officer and pilot in the 41st Air Division in Japan, and squadron commander of the Airborne Early Warning unit. He flew EC-121 Constellations and served as commander of a Task Force flying EC-121s. Jim was commander of the Over the Horizon Radar Unit. He served overseas in India and China for seven months; three years in Japan, 1950-53, and another three years in Japan from 1960-63; one year in Thailand, 1968-69; and three years in Italy, 1971-74. Jim received a Legion of Merit with one OLC; Air Medal with three OLCs; Korean Service Medal with nine Campaign Stars; and a Commendation Medal with two OLCs.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jim was a Real Estate Agent in Grand Junction for 15 years. He was a resident of Grand Junction for 35 years, living there with his first wife, Martha, who preceded him in death, and with his second wife, Dorothy. Jim was a long standing member of the First Congregational Church-UCC, a member of the Redlands Lions Club and Grand Junction Quiet Birds, Military Officers’ Association, and the American Legion of Tarkio.
Without wanting any recognition, Jim had a passion for community service, helping personally and through the Lions Club with community projects like Kid Sight, Blind & Deaf Rehabilitation of Western Colorado, cell phone collection for disabled persons, scholarship for Mesa College students and helping his neighbors with small farm projects. He also loved golf and practiced with his friends to achieve that perfect game.
Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; and his daughter, Beth Aldrich, and his brother, Russel, both buried in Tarkio. He is survived by second wife, Dorothy; his sister, Barbara Albin; son-in-law, Rich Aldrich; his grandchildren, Luke Sullivan (Jessica) and Kelley Sullivan-McNelly (Mark); and his great- grandchildren, Reece and Riley Sullivan and Mark and Aydan McNelly.

McClurg, Lloyd Robert - Lloyd Robert McClurg, the son of Earl R. and Margaret L. (Shannon) McClurg, was born September 3, 1922 in Maryville, Missouri. He attended the Bloomfield Grade School in his youth and graduated from Horace Mann High School in Maryville. Lloyd graduated from Northwest Missouri Teachers College, also of Maryville, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Technology.

Lloyd served his country during World War II in the Air Force as a radio technician on Tinian Island one of the Mariana Islands.

On May 21, 1950, Lloyd was united in marriage to Wanda Lee Grace. This year they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived and farmed south of Pickering, Missouri where they raised four children. Lloyd passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, at the age of 86 years.

Lloyd was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities including: deacon, Sunday School teacher, and bus greeter. Lloyd was also a member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100 of Maryville.

He enjoyed working in his workshop making wooden toys for his grandchildren and hundreds of bird houses for 4-H Clubs, Boy Scouts, and anyone enjoying wildlife.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph McClurg. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee, Maryville; daughters, Cora Lee Konecny and husband, Ron, Kearney, Nebraska, Grace Carmichael and husband, Jerry, Columbia, Missouri, Nancy Mann, Independence, Kansas; son, Fred McClurg and wife, Marty, New Liberty, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; sisters, Cleta Salyers and her husband, Tommy, Malvern, Iowa, Jeanie Stocks and her husband, Art, Mason City, Iowa, Letha Jackson, and her husband, Leland, Kansas City, Missouri.

Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. Services directed by Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Mo.
