[101] Alsup, Harold Benton, son of Jesse (Bud) and Darkie (Hicks) Alsup, was born August 8, 1920 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. After he and his family moved to the Tarkio, Missouri area, he attended Tarkio schools before joining the United States Army August 25, 1943. Harold served his country during World War II, receiving his honorable discharge September 13, 1945.

Harold soon began working as an over-the-road truck driver, pulling various kinds of loads, long or short haul until his retirement in 1983.

On April, 11, 1940 Harold was united in marriage to Mary Ann Balle in Maryville, Missouri. They made their home in the Kansas City, Missouri, Denver, Colorado and Omaha, Nebraska communities before retiring to Tarkio in 1989. They were blessed with two daughters, Pat and Kay, and one son, Johnny. Mary Ann passed away on October 8, 2004. Harold passed away on November 29, 2006 at Northview Manor in Tarkio at the age of 86 years.

He was a member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post 199 in Tarkio and a former member of the Teamsters Union.

Besides his parents and wife Mary Ann, Harold was preceded in death by son Johnny Alsup; two brothers, Noah Alsup and Leonard Hicks; one sister Lurena Helton; and grandson, Rex Jones.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat Jones and husband, Gerwin of Littleton, Colorado and Kay Mehsling and husband Bill of Hillsboro, Missouri; three grandchildren, Debbie, Shana, and Nick; and one great granddaughter, Tori.

Memorial services were held Saturday, December 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m., Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio; inurnment immediately followed at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. There was no scheduled family visitation. Memorials may be directed to Tarkio Nutrition Center.
[102] Amthor, Alice Frances Garrison, the daughter of Ernest Reed and Esther (Kendall) Garrison was born October 23, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Because her father was a traveling salesman, Alice attended eight different high schools, graduating from San Bernardino High School in California. She then became a student at Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska, for two years, where she received her teaching certificate.

Alice was united in marriage to Richard Lee Amthor on May 19, 1946 at the Elm Park Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. They made Rock Port, Missouri their home, farming north of town for 18 years

Alice taught one year at Red Star Country School. In 1965, she was employed by the Atchison County Library in Rock Port, where she operated the book mobile for over 20 years. She helped Richard with “Amthor Repair” and was always by his side on a tractor or building a grain bin. Richard passed away in May of 2005. Alice passed away May 18, 2008 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81 years.

Alice was a former Rock Port City Council member, she served on the Election Board, and was a member of the Zoning Committee. Alice always planted a large garden and grew numerous types of plants in her greenhouse. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitching.

Besides her parents and husband Richard, Alice was preceded in death by one brother Kendall Garrison. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Ann McMahon, and her husband Michael, Riverton, Iowa, Judith Marlene Crain, and her husband Curt, Hamburg, Iowa; one son, Wally Amthor, and his wife Kay, Rock Port; six grandchildren, Shauna McMahon, Cy McMahon, Clint Crain, Jeni Umbarger, Jana VonSeggern, Wyatt Amthor; six great grandchildren, Isaac McMahon, Reece Umbarger, Regan Umbarger, Reed Umbarger, Grace Crain, Jacob Crain; brother Reed Garrison, Milwaukee, Oregon; sister-in-law Janet Garrison, Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; brothers-in-law Bill Amthor, and his wife Bev, Rock Port, Joe Amthor, and his wife, Jane, Atchison, Kansas; sister-in-law Mary Amthor, Rock Port and numerous nieces and nephews

[103] Anderson, Erna Charlyne Wells was born May 19, 1934 in Moorcroft, Wyoming to Perry and Sherma (Hefner) Wells. She attended school in Stanley, Iowa; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Rock Port, Missouri and graduated from high school in Marion, Iowa.

Charlyne was united in marriage to Harold T. Perry on June 10, 1951 in Marion. They had moved back to Rock Port by the time they started their family of four daughters. She had a variety of occupations through the years, but the true love of her life was her children and being involved in their activities. She spent many hours volunteering her time to support her girls through swim team, 4-H, Sunday school and Girl Scouts, as well as all school activities. Charlyne and Harold later divorced.

On May 13, 1973, she was united in marriage to Paul “Pete” Anderson. Pete’s occupation required many moves throughout their marriage. They eventually settled in Ft. Scott, Kansas where they owned and operated The Colonial Restaurant. Pete passed away in October, 1997 and Charlyne made her way back to Rock Port. There she led an active life volunteering at the Rock Port Nutrition Center where she became a member of the Advisory Board. She was happy to again be near her “girls” and grandchildren.

Charlyne was a master crocheter and loved to entertain and cook for friends and family. She loved being outdoors and took great pride in her flower gardens and yard. Music played a big role in her life as she loved to play her violin, piano and sing along with the girls. Charlyne passed away December 20, 2007 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri at the age of 73 years.

Besides her parents, Charlyne was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. Charlyne is survived by daughters; Chris Lewis and her husband Jim, Marilyn McMahon and her husband Ron, Brenda Hughes and her husband Rick, all of Rock Port and Debra Lee, St. Joseph, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Marlyne Preuitt and her husband John; brother, Gene Wells and his wife Barbara; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services: Sunday, December 23, 2007, 2:00 pm, United Methodist Church, Rock Port.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the United Methodist Church.
Memorials: Rock Port Nutrition Center.
Services are under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
 
Armstrong, Jacob -

Jacob Armstrong, son  of Mr. and Mrs. J. R.   Armstrong, was born in Hawkins county, Tenn., on December 10, 1875,   and passed away at his home in Watson, Oct. 18, 1947. He came to Missouri in 1901 and had since lived in and near Watson. He was married to Mae Murdock and to this union three children were  born, Mrs. Clara Stanton of Rock Port. John Armstrong and Orlena who died when a child. Besides his widow, daughter and son, he is survived by a sister who lives in Colorado and a brother in Tennessee, also twelve  grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church  October  20  with Rev. Thompson in charge, assisted by Rev. Tandy. Interment was in the High Creek cemetery.

 

Athen, Maude Leona Clark - Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Center Grove church, southwest of Westboro, for Mrs George Athen, who died late Friday evening at her home in the North Grove neighborhood northwest of Elmo. Burial was in the Center Grove cemetery. Rev J.R. Campbell of Elmo was in charge.

Mrs Athen, age 60, had been ill only a short time. The former Maude Leona Clark, she was born in Ohio February 11, 1880. She had lived near Elmo the last six years, moving there from Tarkio.

Surviving are the husband; a daughter, Mrs Christina Lambert, Elmo; two grandchildren; her mother, Mrs Christina Clark, Green City, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs Myrtle Foltz, Hunnewell, Mo.; Mrs Mildred Nickel, Winigan, Mo.; and Mrs Mae Mayfield, Green City; and two brothers, Guy Clark, Green City, and Hazel V. Clark, Omaha.

Adams, Donald Edgar - Donald Edgar Adams, the son of William Bryant and Tressa Gladys (Smith) Adams, was born June 29, 1929 in Hamburg, Iowa. He graduated from Rock Port High School, then earned his diploma from Chillicothe Business College, Chillicothe, Missouri.

Don entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, Don was employed with the Burlington Northern Railroad, where he was a telegrapher and depot agent until his retirement in 1988.

In 1960, Don was united in marriage to Janett (Evans) Traub, and adopted her two daughters, Michelle and Sharolyn. He was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and a life member of both the Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post # 199 and 40/8 Voiture 1402, where he served as Grand Chef for the state of Missouri.

Don enjoyed wood crafting and restoring antiques and furniture. His carpentry skills were known by many throughout the community. In September of 2008, he began residing in Golden Living Center in Maryville,
Missouri. On March 24, 2009, Don passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville at the age of 79 years.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother, William Gene Adams. Survivors include his wife, Janett, of their home in Tarkio; daughters, Michelle Halferty, Kansas City, Missouri and Sharolyn Adams, Tarkio; three grandchildren, Tressa Whittington and her husband, Kory Wallinga, Louisville, Kentucky, Ryan Halferty, Los Angeles, California and Erin Bonomo and her husband, Mike, Kansas City, Missouri.

Burial in Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri. Services under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, Missouri.


Aldrich, Elizabeth Ann McCall - Elizabeth Ann (McCall) Aldrich, age 62 of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction.

Elizabeth was born October 29, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas to James and Martha (Cunningham) McCall. Her father was in the Air Force, and the family moved frequently. She graduated from high school on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Following graduation, Elizabeth attended the University of Colorado, graduating with a Bachelor of Medical Technology, Master of Medical Technology and a Master of Business Administration. She was a Medical Technologist.

Elizabeth was married to Dwight Sullivan, they later divorced. On January 24, 1987, she married Richard Aldrich in Longmont, Colorado. They moved to Grand Junction seven years ago.

Elizabeth was a member of the First Congregational Church and belonged to PEO Chapter GJ and the ASCP (Association of Clinical Pathologists). She loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed cross stitch, playing bridge, cooking and watching the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include her husband, Richard of Grand Junction; son, Luke Sullivan of Greeley, Colorado; daughter, Kelley McNelly of Limerick, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Mark and Aydan McNelly and Riley and Reece Sullivan.

Funeral services were held at the First Congregational Church in Grand Junction on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, under the direction of Callihan Edfast Mortuary.

Andrews, William Louis - William Louis Andrews, the son of Vernon Thain and Dorothy Lee (Gibson) Andrews, was born April 18, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended Union Star High School, graduating in 1964. In 1968, Bill obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, and his Masters degree in 1971.

On May 14, 1971, Bill was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Smith in Oak, Missouri and they became the parents of three children.

Bill taught and coached at Craig, Missouri, High School and Maysville, Missouri, High School, and was a counselor for Missouri Vocational Rehabilitation in St. Joseph for 11 years. In 1983, the family moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where Bill was the high school principal for three years. In 1986, he took over the Atchison County Agency for State Farm Insurance and enjoyed serving his clients for the past 23 years. Bill passed away Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 63 years.

A lifelong competitor, Bill excelled at fast pitch softball many years of his adult life for teams across northwest Missouri. During that same time, he was an avid bird hunter, taking most winter weekends to hunt with family and friends. For the last two decades, Bill was a familiar face on the fairways and greens from Kansas City to Lincoln and served on the board of the Rock Port Golf and Country Club for many years. Also, Bill was a charter member of the Rock Port Optimist Club and a former member of the Rock Port Park Board for nearly 16 years. He recently served on the Community Hospital-Fairfax Board and the Nebraska Regional Hospital Medical Board. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, and coached his own children’s ball teams for many years, along with numerous other teams in the Rock Port area.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of the home in Rock Port; sons, Cort William Andrews, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Hugh Jason Andrews and his wife, Sarah, Parkville, Missouri; daughter, Nicole Marie Hagman and her husband, Erick, Grand Rapids, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Grace, Kayla, William, Emma, Gibson, Owen and Mazzie; parents, Vernon and Dorothy Andrews, Helena, Missouri; and sister, Marcia Irwin and her husband, Rick, Tomball, Texas.
