Abbott, Jeremy - Funeral services were held Friday morning, March 13 at Christs Church in Oronago, MO for Jeremy Abbott, 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Abbott of Joplin, formerly of Fairfax.
Jeremy died Tuesday evening from a gun shot to the chest by a Jasper County Deputy Sheriff which was ruled a justified shooting by the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney. After the deputies were called to Jeremy's home by his parents, after they found a suicide note from him. When the deputies arrived they were confronted by Jeremy who was armed by knives in both hands. After trying to convince him to drop the knives when he was advancing on the deputies, he was shot, dying a short time later at a hospital.
Jeremy is survived by his parents; two brothers, one sister, nephew, nieces, uncles and aunts.

Lyle Roscoe Lincoln Beck was born on the family farm east of Fairfax on Feb. 6, 1909 to Perry J. and May (Litherbury) Beck. He passed away at Community Care Center, Tarkio, on Friday, Jan. 9,1998 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 3 days.
Lyle attended the Long Branch rural school and farmed the family farm until moving into Fairfax in August of 1983.
He was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday school treasurer, sang in the choir and served as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy May; his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Thalia Beck, of the home in Fairfax.
Funeral services were held at the Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax Monday morning, Jan. 12, conducted by Rev. Sharon Lodygowski. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Bradfield, Eugene Bradfield, Wendele Wasserfallen, Bob Sefrit, Jason Kemerling and Robert Sefrit.
Memorials may be given to the Fairfax Presbyterian Church.

Norene "Maw Maw" Booth, 86, Princeton, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1989, at a hospital in Trenton, Mo.
She was born in Fairview, Mo. and graduated from Stephen's College at Columbia, Mo., in 1922. She attended the former University of Kansas City, now known as the University of Kansas and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo.
Mrs. Booth was a well-known Midwest artist and cartoonist.
She was a member of Cainsville, Mo., United Methodist Church.
She married William E. Booth on June 7,1923. He died on March 23, 1982.
Mrs. Booth was preceded in death by three brothers, Ormand Swindle, Dr. Percivall Swindle and Dr. Gaylord Swindle.
Surviving are three sons, James. B., Princeton, George W., Stony Brook, N.Y., and Gaylord R., Prescott, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.
Services were held Sunday, at Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home, Princeton. Cremation followed services. Burial, Oaklawn Cemetery, Cainsville..
Superintendent and Mrs. Booth were Fairfax residents for many years and she shared her artistic talents with clubs and organizations.

Evelyn Poe Brannum, age 91, was born July 17, 1906 in Fairfax and passed away April 4, 1998 in Omaha, Ne. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Lottie (Portis) Poe.
Evelyn grew up west of Fairfax, graduated from Irish Grove High School and Tarkio Gollege. She taught school in Nishnabotna and at Irish Grove.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Walter Hoch and Ernest Brannum; three sisters, Letha Umbarger, Helen Dewey, Beulah Story; one brother, James Poe; and an infant daughter.
Survivors include one sister, Carol Underwood, Rock Port; one brother, Ethan Poe, Lancaster, Calif; three daughters, Viola Johnson, Linda Bitcon, Cloma Lorenzen, Omaha, Nebr; two sons, Frank Hoch, Wytheville, VA and Dick Brannum, Brighton, CO; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

November23,1944, Charlie was the son of Christena and Frank Brown. He attended country schools and Tarkio High School in Tarkio. While growing up, Charlie worked for various farmers and later for Tarkio Pelleting Corporation in Tarkio and, most recently, Texas Industries of Streetman, Texas.
On September 27, 1964, Charlie married Marcia Slemons. Together they had two children, John R. Brown and Amy L. Brown. They later divorced. On January 25, 1980, he married Cherry Stevens.
Survivors include: Charlie's wife, Cherry, of the home; his mother, Christena Brown, Tarkio: two daughters, Amy Brown, Fairfax, and Jaye Knott, Corsicana; three sons, John Brown, Fairfax, Randy Stevens, Lubbock, Texas, and David Stevens, Kerens, Texas; ten grandchildren; one brother, Larry Brown, Fairfax; two sisters, Sharon Hubbard, Collins, Missouri, and Candy Whetsel, Craig. Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his father. Frank Brown.
Charlie will be sadly missed by many family members and good friends. The family asks that any contributions be made to any cancer foundation.

Pastor Richard Bruenger of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO, officiated. Interment was made in East Slope Cemetery in Riverside, MO.
Kenneth C. Burton, age 47, passed away October 20,1988, in a nursing center in Kansas City, MO. He was born August 9,1941, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Inez (Calder) and Cecil Burton. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO. He was a clerk for Kenworth Truck Sales Company in Kansas City, MO, until his retirement in 1973. Kenneth was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Kenneth is survived by a son, Donald K, of Tarkio, and a daughter, Christine, also of Tarkio.

Marjorie Edith Carter was born Feb. 16,1900 near Quitman, the daughter of Warner and Georgia Ann Betheal Graves. She passed away Oct. 8, 1988 at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 22 days.
During her early years she attended the Quitman schools and graduated from Quitman High School.
On April 2, 1921 she was united in marriage to Ralph Marion Carter. They made their home and farmed east of Fairfax their entire married life. Ralph passed away Dec. 25, 1979. For a few years Marjorie made her home in Maryville and then moved to Fairfax in November of 1982. On Feb. 29,1988 she became a resident of Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.
She was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church and was a charter member of the Fairfax Garden Club.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Jean Lois Flanagan of Maryville, and Mrs. James Marian Irvine of Fairfax; 3 grand children: Jimmie Dale Irvine of Rock Port; Sharon Farrens of Blockton, la.; and Randy Mack Flanagan of Weeping Water, Nebr.; 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband Ralph she was preceded in death by 4 sisters, 2 brothers and son-in-law, Mack Flanagaa
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct 11 at the Minter Funeral Chapel in Rock Port, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg. Interment was in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Pallbearers were: Ralph Ball, Wallie Kent, E.C. Carter, Alan Cooper, Phillip Close, Melvin Miles.

Edith May Carter was born March 13, 1901 the daughter of Thurman Lee and Geneva Walker Davis in Fairfax, and died at the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 21 days on Nov. 4,1988.
She attended country schools in rural Fairfax and as a young woman worked as a telephone operator in Tarkio.
On Feb. 25, 1928 she was married to George T. Carter in Oregon, Mo. They spent their entire married life on a farm east of Fairfax in the Daleview neighborhood. Mr. Carter died Nov. 24, 1976. Mrs. Carter moved from the farm to town, and then later to the Bethesda Gare Center in Tarkio the past five years.
She was a member of the Tarkio Methodist Church and for many« years a member of the Daleview Extension Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Harmon of Fairfax; one granddaughter, Leisa Harmon, Fairfax; three sisters and two brothers: Thelma Fauth, Oakland, Calif.; Irene Mather, Diamond Springs, Calif; . Margaret Fleshman, Dearborn; Richard Davis, Fairfax; Don Davis, Marienthal, Ks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon, Nov. 7 at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Fairfax, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg. Pallbearers were Cecil Young, Dean Wiley, C. J. Sillers and Dennis Athen. Family suggests memorials to the Fairfax hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 1999, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio for Henry Chaney, Jr., of Tarkio. Reverend Steve Pinnell officiated. Interment was made in Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio. Full military rites were conducted under the auspices of the Allen Schiffern American Legion Post #199 of Tarkio.
Henry Chaney, Jr., age 77, passed away Monday, April 26, 1999, at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, Missouri. He was born April 3, 1922, in Tarkio to Gladys (Law) and Henry Chaney, Sr. During his youth, Henry attended the Tarkio schools. On November 23,1942, he entered the United States Army and served his country overseas during World War II. On October 17, 1945, he received his honorable discharge and returned to the Tarkio community.
Henry was united in marriage to Evelyn Lucille Roberts on July 14, 1946. In 1951. Henry and his family moved to California where he was employed as a truck driver, retiring in 1963. In 1966, he and his family moved back to Tarkio where he worked as a carpenter. Lucille passed away in 1980.
During 1988, Henry became a resident of Fair Haven Apartments in Fairfax where he lived until failing health forced his moving to the Tekamah Nursing Home in Tekamah. Nebraska. On January 29. 1999, he returned to Tarkio where he resided at Integrated Health Services (IHS).

Survivors include: two sons, Roger W. Dorothy May (Russell) Clark, 82 of Pattonsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 at a hospital in Liberty. Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and was born in Martinsville, MO on Dec. 19,1915.
On March 13,1931, she married John Clark in Bethany, MO.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. and Mary O. Russell; a sister, Laura Brown; a brother, Virgil Russell; a grandchild; and one great grandchild.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons and three daughters: Bill Clark, Pattonsburg and Dewayne Clark, Fairfax; Goldie Little, Bogard; Helen Burns, Gallatin; Barbara Gibson, Brimson; two brothers, Dallas and Everett Russell, both of Bethany; one sister, Rosie Lacy of Bethany; 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday morning at Lake Viking Church, Galatin. Burial was in Lake Viking Cemetery, Gallatin.

Funeral services for CMSgt. (ret.) James Nelson Corbin, Sr., 66, were held on Wednesday morning at the French Chapel in Albuquerque, New Mexico. CMSgt. Corbin died at 10:35 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 1987 at the VA Hospital following a lengthy illness and is survived by his wife, Lorene.
CMSgt. Corbin was born in Willard, Missouri on June 19, 1921 to the late Bessie May Black and James Bentley Corbin. He married Cecile Lorene Christine Park on Oct. 21, 1940 at Rock Port. He left Missouri in 1942 to serve in the Army Air Corps in the European Theatre for three years. He remained in the armed forces for 32 years and served his country in Vietnam for 18 months. His final four years of duty was at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belguim. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jim was employed by the Spring Crest Company, Brea, California, as a regional manager for the midwest section of the country.
Rev. James Bowen, head of the Indian Missions in New Mexico, and Pastor Richard Clymer, pastor at Jemez Baptist Church, Jemez Pueblo, conducted the services at the chapel. CMSgt. Corbin was buried at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with full military honors.
Other survivors include a son, James N. Corbin, Jr., Tucson, Arizona; a daughter, Teri Corbin Sloane, Albuquerque; a granddaughter, Angela B. Corbin, Paris, Mo; four grandsons, James Phillip Corbin, Brandon B. Corbin, both of Paris; Benjamin C. Emerson and Joshua A. Emerson, both of Albuquerque; two brothers Archie of Albuquerque, and Charles Danley, Tekaman, Neb; three sisters, Bessie Proffit, Albuquerque; Mary Margaret Carter, West Plains, and Minnie Vaught, Fairfax.

Lawrence Riley Culp 86, Rock Port, passed away Sept. 4 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 30,1901 in Elwood, Ks., the son of Tillman and Annie (Robison) Culp.
In March of 1932 he was married to Mary Elizabeth Whipple. She passed away in November, 1967. He was married again in June of 1968 to Lona Carder, and they moved to Rock Port from Tarkio, Lona passed away in June of 1980. In October of 1981 he was married to Ida Price.
Lawrence farmed for most of his working years in the Tarkio area. After retirement, he had worked as a caretaker at the Fair Oaks Housing, and was also employed at the Rock Port Market.
Surviving are: his wife, Ida Price Culp, of the home; four stepdaughters: Marge Wilson and Marjorie Alloway, both of Rock Port, Eilene Lewis, Yuma, Ariz., and Francis Calvin, Norwalk, Cal.; four stepsons: Raymond Carder, Falls City, Neb., Paul David Carder, Cypress, Cal., Harlin Carder, Earp, Cal., and Gene Carder, Fairfax; two brothers: Russell Culp, Troy, Ks., and Leon Culp, Wathena, Ks.; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Sept. 7,2:00 p.m., at Chamberlain Funeral Home, Rock Port, conducted by Rev. George Owens. Interment will be at the Oregon Cemetery.

Andrew A. Currie, 76, died early Monday morning, June 8,1987 at his home in Corning.
He was born in St Joseph on April 29,1911, and formerly lived in Fairfax, Tarkio, and Corning, where he farmed. He also lived in St Joseph and was employed with a railroad company. He returned to Corning in 1962 and was employed in a saw mill, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Currie was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Gale Currie, Fort Morgan, Colo.; two brothers, David O. Currie, Fairfax, and Daryll S. Currie, Weidman, Mich.; a niece; and three nephews.
Services will be a 10 a.m. Thursday at the Minter Funeral Home in Rock Port Burial will be the the Hunter Cemetery south of Rock Port

Richard LaVern Curry died Oct 6, 1986 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. He was born May 7, 1926 to John N. and Iva F. Curry at the family home west of Fairfax.
He was retired from the United States Air Force having served 21 years. At the time of his death he was a farmer in the Bedford, la. area. He is suvived by his wife, Helen of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Debbie Curry of Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Elva Harmes, Moberly; Mrs. Elza (Lucille) West, Bedford, la.; and two brothers, Wayne, Arizona; and Willis of Bedford, la. Mr. Curry was buried in the Clarinda, la. Cemetery with military honors by the New Market, la. American Legion Post of which he was a member.

Blanche Marie Eddy. 87, Rock Port, died Monday morning at a nursing home.
Mrs. Eddy was born in Mound City. After her marriage, she and her husband. Fredrick Charles Eddy, who preceded her in death in 1962, farmed in the Mound City area and in Hamilton. They later moved to Atchison County, Mo. and to Fairfax in 1947.
She was a long-time employee of the Fairfax hospital, retiring before she moved to Rock Port.
She moved to Rock Port in 1976, and was a resident of the Fair Oaks Senior Citizen housing.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Mound City.
Surviving are two sons, Charles E. Eddy, Rock Port; Robert Browning Eddy, Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Mrs. John Andes and Mrs. Ruth Swords, both of Mound City; and one grandson.
Services were held Wednesday at the Minter Chapel, Rock Port. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.

Services were held for Seth Elder June 6 at the Church of Christ in Rock Port, conducted by Charles Gash, minister. Interment was in Nichols Grove Cemetery, northeast of Oregon. Pallbearers were Trooper David Smith, Cpl. Roger Stottlemyre, Trooper Hugh Fowler and Trooper David Miller.
Seth Aaron Elder was born September 17,1979, in Fairfax, the son of James Allen and Sharon Lynn Crouch Elder. He passed away on June 3,1987 following a pickup-bicycle accident near his home west of Tarkio, at the age of 7 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Seth and his family lived in New Point, before moving to Rock Port, in 1983. During May of 1985 they moved to rural Tarkio. In May of 1987 he completed first grade at Tarkio Elementary School.
His favorite pastime was being out-of-doors and climbing trees. He loved animals and enjoyed fishing with his father. He was a member of the Tarkio T-Ball Team and was an all-American boy.
He was a member of the Rock Port Church of Christ
He is survived by his parents, James and Sharon, of the home; a sister, Tiffany Laine Elder, and a brother, Joel Micah Elder, both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter T. Crouch, Hiawatha, Ks.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Genevieve Elder, Oregon, Mo.; maternal great grandmother, Mrs. Ava Baer, Greensburg, Ks.
Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, Pastor Harvey L. Elder.

Flanagan, Kathryn L. Windhorst - Kathryn L. Flanagan was born at Clarinda, IA on Feb. 23, 1907 the daughter of August Windhorst and Maude Holmes,   and passed away at a St. Joseph health care center on March 7, 1998 at the age of 90 years and 14 days.
She has resided in the Heartland Centre since 1993, and had lived and farmed west of Fairfax. She was raised in the Corning area, and graduated from Corning High School. She was a member of the Fairfax Methodist Church.
On June 30, 1934 she married James Flanagan.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband James in 1993 and two brothers, Edward Windhorst and Martin Windhorst.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lois Wetzel of Cosby; two brothers and one sister, Harry Windhorst, Willie Windhorst, both of Fairfax and Edna Jackson of St. Joseph; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, 1 March 12 at 2:30 p.m. at English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax, with Rev. Steve Pinnell in charge.
Family will receive friends at the Schooler Funeral Home Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Una Fleming died Thursday, Nov. 6 at a hospital in Omaha, Nebr. at the age of 89 years and 9 days.
She was born in Craig Oct 27, 1897 and she attended school there. She also attended the old Maryville Normal College, Maryville.
Mrs. Fleming taught school in the Corning, Mo. school district She also helped her father with a rural mail route.
She married Myrl Fleming and he died in 1959.
They farmed near Fairfax, later moving to Fairfax, where they owned and operated a restaurant During World War II they lived in So. Carolina and in 1946 they moved to Sacramento, Calif where she worked for the state of Calif, in the records department She moved to Mound City in 1985.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and received her 50 year pin in 1982.
Surviving are two nieces and a nephew, Elizabeth Pardace, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Frances Wilson of Mound City; Hampson Long of Craig and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Schooler Funeral Home in Craig, conducted by Rev. Jim Brown. Burial was in Tharp Cemetery, near Craig.
The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society or the Community Hospital, Fairfax.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 14, 1999, at Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax, Missouri, for Eugene T. Fletcher of Westboro, Missouri. Robert Emshoff, Minister, officiated. Burial was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fairfax.
Eugene Thomas "Gene" Fletcher, age 69, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at his home in Westboro. He was born August 15,1929, on his father's farm south of Fairfax to Laura (Davis) and Samuel G. Fletcher. He grew up on the farm and attended Star Rural School in Holt County.

After his schooling, Gene farmed for awhile. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Harry Wright Ford in Tarkio in 1957 as a salesman. He also worked for Clark Ford in Rock Port, Mis­souri, and had managed Moore Motors in Maryville, Missouri. In 1979, he established Fletcher Motors, Inc., in Rock Port. Gene operated that business until 1985 when he opened Fletcher Motors in Tarkio which he operated until he retired in 1995.
Gene was married to Delores Bowen in 1953. They later divorced. On January 5,1973, he married Donna Purtle. Gene was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include: Gene's wife, Donna, of the home in Westboro; three sons, Scott Fletcher, Blanchard, Iowa, and Douglas Fletcher and David Frushon, both of Tarkio; four daughters, Jeanie Muller, Smithville, Missouri, Cathy Harvey, Sedalia, Missouri, Jackie Aeschliman, Tarkio, and Deborah Frushon, Plattsmouth, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; and one great­grandchild.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Olin, Malvern, Don and Zenith "Pete" Fletcher.

Clara Lucile Fuelling, age 77, passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, MO, on Friday, October 21,1988. She was born on March 6,1911, in rural Rock Port, the daughter of Delia (Townsend) and William G. Oswald. Lucile received her education from the Mt. Pleasant Country School southeast of Rock Port, and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1929. She later graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. There, she received the Burral Gold Medal Award for Religious Leadership.
Lucile was united in marriage to Harry Herman Fuelling on June 12,1938, at the Rock Port Lutheran Church by Reverend McConnell. Harry entered the service after their marriage to serve his country in World War II. Lucile worked as a receptionist for Dr. Emmett Settles for a few years, and worked diligently as a Red Cross Volunteer. She served as Deputy Circuit Clerk and Recorder for two years. Throughout the years, Lucile has served her church faithfully by serving in many capacities, and living her faith on a daily basis.

Lucile's many hours of volunteer work with rest home patients was exemplary of her love for her fellow man. Lucile was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port, and the Lutheran Church Women, and was a member and past-president of the State Republican Women's Association.

Lucile is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Merry Oswald of Rock Port; one nephew, Richard Oswald of Langdon, MO; one niece, Mrs. Frank (Penny) Kowal of Omaha, NE; five grandnephews, and one grandniece; a double cousin, Mrs. Eva McDonald of Laguna Hills, CA; and a host of other cousins. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Harry, on September 1, 1988.

Fuelling, Harry H.- Harry H. Fuelling 76, Rock Port, passed away Sept. 1 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port. He was born Sept. 21, 1911 near Westboro, the son of Louis Herman and Mary S. (Redeker) Fuelling.
He attended the rural Westboro schools and later graduated from Westboro High School. He came to the Rock Port community in 1936 and worked at the Atchison County Courthouse where he supervised the corn-hog government program for farmers. He was also associated with the Bank of Atchison County. In that same year he established the Fuelling Insurance Agency which he has owned and operated for over 40 years.
On June 12,1938 he was united in marriage to Clara Lucille Oswald in Rock Port at the First Lutheran Church by Rev. McConnell.

On Dec 4, 1944 he was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during World War II. While serving overseas he was awarded the Bronze Star. He received his honorable discharge on Jan. 3, 1946 at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He then returned to Rock Port to operate the insurance agency.
In 1968 he moved his insurance agency to the Citizens Bank where he continued its operation until the fall of 1976 at which time he sold his business to Don and Pat Ireland. He continued to service customers through this agency until his retirement in 1986.
Through the years Harry has been extremely dedicated to many civic organizations. He was instrumental in organizing the Rock Port Community Housing and has served as a board member to the present time, and many terms as president. He was a former member of the Rock Port Board of Public Works, and he was a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post No. 49 of Rock Port.
He was a member of the Rock Port First Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for over 30 years and was also a former finance chairman of the Building Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille, Rock Port; two sisters: Lillian Tiemann, Tarkio, and Frances E. Tesarek, Hopkins, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary S. Korsmeyer and Hermie Hirz.
Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, conducted by Rev. Mark Weber. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Westboro, conducted by Rev. Richard Pearson. Services were under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.

Richard Delano Gearhart, 45 of Parnell, died Sunday, Oct 5, 1986 at his home. He was born in Tarkio and lived the past 23 years in Parnell, having moved from the Pickering area.
He graduated from the Pickering high school and attended NWMSU, Maryville.
He married Cloie Fern Nelson on June 23,1962. He was a member of the Ravenwood Christian Church in
Ravenwood and the Lions Club in Parnell. He was retired from the Nixdorff -Lloyd Chain Co. in Maryville.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeffrey Alvin Gearhart, both ot the home; his father, Everett W. Gearhart
Funeral services were held at the Ravenwood Christian church on Wednesday and burial was in the Walkups Grove Cemetery east of Fairfax.

Vernon C. Geiger, 70, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday morning, Oct. 8, 1983 at his home in Rio Verde, Ariz., where he had resided the past five years.
He was a native of Robinson, Kns. As a young man, Mr. Geiger lived in St. Joseph and worked with his father a short time at the Geiger Grain Co., which his father founded. He resided in Minneapolis most of his life, where he was associated for many years as an officer of the Burdick Grain Co. In more recent years, he served as a consultant to Con-Agra Inc.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; one daughter, two sons, one sister.
Memorial services were held in Rio Verde. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Mr. Geiger was a part of the business community in Fairfax for many years. At the time of his death, he was sole owner of the Fairfax Elevator.
Ownership of the Fairfax Elevator has been transferred to Mrs. Geiger. Business will continue with present management at Fairfax.

Herbert Getty, 85, son of John and Balzora Price Getty passed away Nov. 7,1988 at his home in Independence. Herbert was a graduate of the School of the Blind in St. Louis. He was employed by the broom Factory as a worker and salesman in Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Norman, Walter, Donald, Burl and Johnnie Lee.
He is survived by his sister, Marie Getty Thompson, Albany. His second wife Flossie of Independence and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral will be 11:30 Thursday at Carson Funeral Home, Independence. Burial at Independence.

Bertha V. Gomel, 88, Rock Port, died Wednesday, Aug. 3,1988 in Rock Port.
Mrs. Gomel was born in Forbes, Mo.
She married her first husband Clarence Lee Moore, in 1918. He preceded her in death. She married her second husband, J. Louis Gomel, in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1973.
Mrs. Gomel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Craig, Story-Hardin American Legion Auxiliary of Craig, and the World War I Barracks.
Survivors are a son, Clarence Lee Moore Jr., North Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters, Iona Geib, Mound City, and Wiona Hill, Craig; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at the Presbyterian church of Craig. Burial in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan.

Jimmie Dale Graham was born Oct 29,1936 at Fairfax the son of Albe and Lillian Stoner Graham. He passed away March 11, 1998 in Omaha, Ne at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 18 days.
He served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed baseball and the Nebraska Huskers, also liked to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane in 1996; brother, Cecil; and sister, Joyce.
Survivors include his son, Mike Graham of the home; foster daughter, Barbara; two brothers, Harold Graham, Franklin, OH, and Alan Graham of Wellington, MO; two sisters, Martha Schmitz of Conception Junction and Beatrice Paris of Fairfax; several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14 at the Meyer - Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, la, conducted by Rev. Mark Heath. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Council Bluffs, la.
Military rites were held at the cemetary by the American Legion Post of Council Bluffs.

Mildred Eva Greever, daughter of Leslie W. Haun and Ada June McKinley was born Jan. 23, 1907 on a farm north of Fairfax, one of seven children. She died at her home early Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 1987 at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 16 days.
She attended Oak Grove school and Fairfax high school three years, and graduated from high school at Boynton, Okla, class of 1925.
Mildred was married to William L. Greever March 19, 1929. They started housekeeping on the farm southeast of Fairfax, where she lived all her married life. They were parents to two daughters, Ann and Wilma.
She was a homemaker and a telephone operator in Fairfax at one time. She was a member of the Fairfax Christian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and brothers, Roy Haun, Harry Haun, Raymond Haun and Hubert Haun.
Survivors include the husband of the home near Fairfax; two daughters, Ann (Mrs. N. D.) Greever of Hickman, Nebr.; and Wilma (Mrs. R. E.) Moe, Rock Port; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Jack Haun, Richmond; and Mabel Burns of Independence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Fairfax Christian church, conducted by Rev. Carrol Fischer of Watson. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Mrs. Corinne Mitchell was in charge of music. Pallbearers were Brent Greever, Barth Greever, Bob Moe, Brian Greever, Bruce Greever and Tim Umbarger.

Lela Esther Hackl was born December 18, 1901 in Bancroft, Nebraska the daughter of Richard Rice and Marie Elizabeth (Krug) McNulty. Her family moved to Falls City, Nebraska where she graduated from high school. She was always destined to be a career woman. In 1920, she came to Rock Port, Missouri to apprentice with a local millener, and after a year plied her trade for another year in St. Joseph before returning to Rock Port to open and run her own hat shop, The Vogue. This was a dream realized by the young woman who had grown up with a special knack for fashioning elegant hats and accessories.
On November 5, 1923, Lela was united in marriage to Archibald George "Archie" Hackl, who operated the family farm northwest of Rock Port. Here, they lived until Archie passed away in 1967 and Lela moved to the Fair Oaks Housing in Rock Port in 1968.

For decades, Lela was in the retail business, and thus in the public eye. Until her eighties, she could be found at the cash register of the Rock Port Market; before that across the street at what was, through the 1940's, the local Golden Rule where her expert advice on sewing and notions was sought by the many who had come to respect her background in this field; and before that, up Main Street on the zanine at the Mercantile, where she employed herself and other seamstresses in a sewing shop.
Lela's lifelong spirit of independence persisted as she lived by herself until ill health commanded her move to Oakland, Iowa to be near her daughter, Beverly, Mrs. Romley Webb.
Lela loved her church. She was one of the oldest active members of the First Christian Church of Rock Port and was a former member of the Rock Port Sweet Adelines Chapter. Her familiar face on Main Street will be missed, but her spirit will remain with us forever. Lela passed away August 6,1998 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 96 years.

Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Romley Webb of Oakland, she is survived by her grandson, Michael Webb, 2 great-grandchildren, Shara and Ryan Webb, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Archie, daughter Gloria Gebhards, granddaughter Linda Webb, 2 brothers, Mann and Merle McNulty and sister Ethel. Services, conducted by Rev. Allan Bash, were held Sunday, August 9, 1998 at the First Christian Church in Rock Port, Missouri. Interment was at the Greenhill Cemetery in Rock Port.
Memorials were directed to the Rock Port Senior Nutrition Site and the First Christian Church.

Gerald Van Hawkins was born Dec. 15, 1921 the son of William Richard and Beulah Orpha Van Gundy Hawkins in Fairfax, and died at his farm home 4 1/2 miles southeast of town on Nov. 2,1988, at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Gerald lived his entire life in the Fairfax community and graduated from Fairfax High, class of 1941. He entered the U. S. Army in 1942 and served his country during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945 he returned to Fairfax where he began his farming career.
On Jan. 1,1948 he married Oma Lee Hall at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfax. They made their home on the farm and were parents of five children.
He was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian church, was a faithful active member and had been an elder and trustee; a member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 483, Fairfax Eastern Star Chapter 373, John Richards Post 284 of American Legion, Elks Lodge 0963 of Falls City, Ne; and was a former board member of the MFA
Preceding him in death were his father in 1980 and his mother in 1983.

Survivors include his wife. Oma of the home near Fairfax; four sons and one daughter, Gary Wayne Hawkins, Shelbina; William Scott Hawkins, Fairfax; Richard Van Hawkins, Higginsville; Hylan Albert Hawkins, Rock Port; and Rita Renae Knierim, Tarkio; 5 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, one brother and one sister, Glen Hawkins, Fairfax; Norma Mackenzie, Overland Park, Ks.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, conducted by Rev. Blake Richter. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Masonic services were held at the cemetery.

The body of "Elrod" Hendrix of Fairfax was found early Saturday morning after his car apparently crossed a rural highway and came to rest on the guard rail.
Hendrix was east-bound on Route J just west of Fairfax when his 1983 Toyota crossed the west bound lane, struck a bridge support and came to rest on the guard rail, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Mr. Hendrix was not wearing a seat belt. He did not have any passengers , and it did not appear any other vehicles were involved in the accident, the Highway Patrol said.
The time of the accident is unknown. A paper carrier discovered the body around 4:00 a.m. and Mr. Hendrix was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.
James Raymond "Elrod" Hendrix was born March 19,1964 in St. Joseph the son of Harold "Shorty"'- and Ilene (Johnson) Hendrix. He died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 as a result of injuries suffered in an auto accident near Fairfax at the age of 33.
He attended school in Burlington Junction and Fairfax. He was an employee of Clark Cofer the past 10 years.
Preceding him in death were his father, and a brother.
Survivors include his mother, Ilene Hendrix, Mound City; two brothers and six sisters: Larry Hendrix, Pickering; Richard Hendrix, Fairfax; Carrol Bruntmeyer, Mound City; Bonnie Crum, Bedford, la.; Sandy Cochran, Maryville; Karen Cooper, Easton; Helen Runnels, Panaway, Wash.; Joyce Hendrix, Abilene, Texas.
Services were held at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Larry Collins. Burial was in Maitland Cemetery, Maitland.

Edith Henson, age 87, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 1999. at a health center. She was born July 5, 1911, in Mound City, Missouri, to Beauice (Huggins) and Charles W. Close.

Edith was married to Leon Henson on May 14, 1929. Her occupation was being a caregiver at nursing homes. Edith was a member of the St. Oswald Episcopal Church in Skidmore, Missouri.
Survivors include: three daughters, Phyllis Keeling and Diana Barrett, both of Littleton, Colorado, and Beatrice Wade, Honey Creek, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-granddaughters; and one brother, Philip Close, Skidmore, Missouri.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 22, 1991; her son, J.C. Henson; great-grandson, Nicholas Burrows; three brothers, Edward, John and Earnest Close; and two sons-in-law, Earl Barrett and William Hancock.

Esther LaVann Hooper 84, passed away Aug. 27 at the Community Hospital in Fairfax. She was born Sept 10,. 1903 in rural Tarkio, the daughter of Millard Franklin and Maude L. (Carmen) Logan.
She received her early education in the Hamburg, Iowa schools and later attended business college in St. Joseph.

On Aug. 19, 1928 she was united in marriage to LeRoy Hooper in Kansas City. After making their home in St. Jsoeph for a short time, they moved to rural Tarkio, where they farmed and also operated an insurance agency in Tarkio until he passed away in 1974. In 1975, Esther moved to Tarkio. On July 6, 1982, she became a resident of Bethesda Care Center, where she had resided to the present time.
She was a member of the Christian Science Church of Shenandoah, la., and was a member and past-matron of Fairfax Chapter No. 373, Order of the Eastern Star, Fairfax.
She is survived by three nieces: Mrs. Corene Mitts, St. Joseph, Mrs. LaVaun Powers, Baton Rouge, La., and Mrs. Marjorie Goacher, Elwood, Ks.; three nephews: Jack Logan, Indian Springs, Nev., Millard Logan, Mercedes, Tex., and Marlin Logan, Westboro; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsie F. Logan, Tarkio.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Millard Logan. Services were held Aug. 29 at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, conducted by Lorena Z. Hall, Christian Science Reader. Interment was at Tarkio Home Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.

Mrs. Mary Ora Howard, age 94, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at a health care center in Savannah. She was born October 27, 1904, near Blockton, Iowa, to Effie (Wineinger) and Samuel Lough. She resided most of her life in Union Star, Missouri, Oregon, Missouri, and Whitesville, prior to moving to Savannah in 1972.
Mary married George Ryborn Howard on October 11, 1928, in Troy, Kansas. Mary was a homemaker, care giver, and interior decorator.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church and Utopia Club, both of Whitesville. She was also a member of the Shady Lawn Nursing Home Auxiliary in Savannah. She was named Missouri Health Care District II Queen in 1995, representing LaVerna Village Nursing Home and competing in the state contest.
Survivors include: one daughter, Bette Kent, Tarkio; one son, Bobby D. Howard, Savannah; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Jessica Johnson, 16, died from injuries received in a one-vehicle accident early Sunday, August 9, 1998.
At about 4:20 a.m. on August 9th, a 1991 Dodge van, driven by Thomas A. Southard 16, of Fairfax, was westbound about 4:20 a.m. on Milton Road, 1 1/2 miles west of U.S. Highway 59, when he crested a hilltop at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle, according to a spokeswoman with the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The vehicle then swerved off the south side of the roadway, overturned twice and came to rest on its wheels. One passenger was ejected and another passenger was partly ejected, the spokeswoman said.
Passenger Jessica Johnson was taken by the Atchison County coroner to the Schooler Funeral
Home in Fairfax. Miss Johnson would have been a junior this fall at Fairfax R-III High School.
Her brother, Jake Johnson, 15, received serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Fairfax Community Hospital, where he was then airlifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. A Medical Center supervisor listed him in critical condition.
Stephanie Beck, 15, of Fairfax, was admitted and later released from Fairfax Community Hospital. Thomas Southard, Jessie Bolin, 16, of Tarkio, Mo., and Adam Laur, 16, of Westboro, Mo., were all treated at Fairfax and released.
Southard and Laur were wearing seat belts.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax, Missouri.

Jessica Danielle Johnson, age 16, passed away Sunday, August 9, 1998, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born October 26, 1981, in Fairfax to Dina Bernadette (Pinzino) and Jesse Everett Johnson. She was raised and attended school in Fairfax.
Jessica would have been a junior at Fairfax High School in Fairfax this year. She was very involved in school activities to include volleyball, basketball, track, band, FHA, Business Club, Art Club, Hi-step/TNT, and FCA. She also played ASA fast-pitch softball. Honors received while attending Fairfax High School included: Basketball - Honorable Mention-275 Conference Forward, 1997-98, and played on District Champion Team, 1996-97 and 1997-98; Track - 8th Place, State, 800 Meter Run, 1997, Conference Champion Relay Team Member, 4x100, 1997, State Qualifier in 4x100, 1998, and 4th Place, State, 800 Meter Run, 1998; and Volleyball - member of Conference/District Championship Teams, 1996, All-Conference and All-District Blocker, 1997, Sectional Qualifying Team Member, 1996-97, All-Northwest Regional Volleyball Team, 1997, and selected to two All-Tournament teams, 1997.
Survivors include: Jessica's parents, Dina Johnson and Jesse Johnson, both of Fairfax; two sisters, Rhonda Montgomery, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Sarah Johnson of the home in Fairfax; two brothers, Danny Johnson, Westphalia, Missouri, and Jacob Johnson of the home in Fairfax; maternal grandparents, Lora Lee and Jim McLaughlin, Fairfax, and Jude Pinzino, St. Joseph, Missouri; one niece; five nephews; one aunt; three uncles; and many, many other relatives.

Memorial services were conducted at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the Breit & Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Savannah, Missouri, for Merlin Dean Kenagy of Savannah. Inurnment will be made at a later date.
Merlin Dean Kenagy, age 64, passed away Sunday, May 9, 1999, at a Kansas City, Missouri, hospital. He was born January 14, 1935, in Elmo, Missouri, to Velma Calista (Martin) and Robert Keith Kenagy. He was a 1953 graduate of Clearmont, Missouri, High School and received his bachelor's degree in business and accounting from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He was an army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Post in Tarkio.
Merlin had resided for many years in the Elmo, Clearmont and Tarkio areas. He had resided in Kansas City from 1985 until moving to Savannah in 1990.

Merlin was married to Joan Randall on January 22, 1988, in Liberty, Missouri. Merlin was a farmer and was formerly employed by the Internal Revenue Service and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. He was also co-owner of the Farmers and Merchants banks in Elmo and Burlington Junction, Missouri, from 1974 to 1978. He also operated a private financial consultant business foi many years in Tarkio and Maryville and had operated the Credit Analyst, Inc., St. Joseph Missouri, from 1989 to the time of his death.Survivors include: Merlin's wife, Joan, of the home in Savannah; two sons, Mike Kenagy and wife, Brenda, Laurie, Missouri, and Rodney Kenagy and wife, Dina, St. Joseph; two stepsons, Norman Kelley, Casper, Wyoming, and Curtis Kelley, Essex, Iowa; two step­daughters, Patricia Moore Marshall, Texas, and Lor Tillman, Essex, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brandy Kenagy, Cassidy Kenagy and Coltor Kenagy; five stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Dwight Kenagy, Apache Jet., Arizona, and Dale Kenagy, Montesano, Washington; four sisters, Dorothy Ferguson, Overland Park, Kansas, Esther Carlson, Blanchard, Iowa, Carol Patterson, Aurora, Colorado, and Sharon Bluml, Haywarden, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
Merlin was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rhonda Lea Kenagy; two brothers, Kenneth Kenagy and Ronald Kenagy; and a sister, Kathryn Hull. Memorials maybe directed to Merlin's grandchildren's educational fund, c/o Credit Analyst, Inc., 4910 Frederick Blvd., St. Joseph, MO 64506.

Lloyd Lawrence, 86 of Fairfax, died Nov. 3,1988 at the Sunset Home, Maysville, where he had resided for the past several months.
The son of John and Vicy Jane Truitt Lawrence, he was born Oct. 18, 1902 in Merritt, Mo.
On June 4,1922 he married his first wife, Margaret Ann "Maggie" Williams who preceded him in death on Feb. 28,1949. In Sept. 1954 he married Rachel Michaelis.
He was a retired farmer from the Fairfax area and was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife; a son, Johnny Lawrence; one grandson Jesse Dearl Johnson; seven sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his second wife, Rachel S. Lawrence of St Joseph; a daughter, Mrs. Mary J. Johnson, Fairfax; twin sons, Everett William Lawrence of Ozark and Edgar Eugene Lawrence of Atlantic, la.; a sister, Mrs. Alice Allison, Pleasant Hill; four step-daughters and two step-sons: Mrs. Virginia Weideanor, Phoenix, Az; Mrs. Betty Wright and Mrs. Shirley Judy, both of Independence; Mrs. Vera Sparks and Ralph Michaelis, both of St. Joseph; and Francis Michaelis, Tarkio; 131 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Mound Baptist Church in Oldfield, conducted by Rev. Carnel Lee Johnson. Burial was in Huffman Cemetery, Ava.

Muriel Leach was born March 14, 1905 near Mound City, Mo. the daughter of William and Elizabeth Atkins, and passed away at Community Hospital in Fairfax on Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 at the age of 95 years, 9 months and 26 days.
She lived in West Virginia as a child, moving near Craig as an adult where she lived until 1994, when she moved to Tarkio. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Sharps Grove Methodist Church near Craig, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.
In October 1921 she married Abraham Showalter. He preceded her in death in 1944. In 1977 she married Cecil Leach. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant great grandson, Gabriel Showalter; two step-sons, David and Ralph Showalter; two step-daughters, Emma Holland, Naomi Miller; a sister, Ida Kunkel; two brothers, Earl Atkins and John Atkins.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rev. Robert and Mary Muffly, Akron, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Abie and Mary Ann Showalter of Craig; three granddaughters, Cheryl Czech, Howell, N.J.; Denise Elsey, Robyn Zinn, Akron, Ohio; one grandson, Jonathan Showalter, Oakland, la. and 8 great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 14 at the Sharps Grove Methodist Church near Craig, with Rev. Elmer McClaflin in charge. Interment was in Tharp Cemetery.
Mrs. Erma Furhman was in charge of music. Pallbearers were Alfred Schmidt, David ScHmiat, Jonathan Showalter, Larry Walker, Wayne Dean Atkins, James Jacoby.

Lytle, Helen T. - Helen T. Lytle, 84, Kan­sas City, MO died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998 at Alpine Nursing Home, Riverside, Mo. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 8 at Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel, Kansas City, and burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery.

Mrs. Lytle was born on July 8,1913 near Fairfax, Mo. She was retired from Kansas City Life Insurance Company as a company nurse. She was a  member of the Westport Presbyterian  Church,  Kansas City, Mo. and a   member of the Order of   Eastern Star.                                    
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cael W. Lytle in 1982; a    brother, Robert C. Thornson in 1982; a sister, Julia E. Thomson in 1981.                      
Survivors include two   sisters, Edith C. Metzgar,     Mound City and Esther I.    Thomson of Kansas City,    Mo.; two nieces, Lila and   Ann Metzgar, both of Kansas    City,    Mo.; one nephew,  Bill  Metzgar,  Mound City, Mo.

Nancy Smith Mahaffey, 63, of Tarkio died Wednesday evening, July 29,1987 at Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio.
She was born in Tarkio and graduated from Tarkio high school in 1941 and from Tarkio College in 1945. She lived in Tarkio most of her life.
She was a member of the Tarkio Presbyterian Church and was a member and past president of Chapter FF of the PEO Sisterhood of Tarkio. Mrs. Mahaffey taught music at the Weston and Westboro schools for several years. She also taught piano in North Bend, Nebr. and in Tarkio.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Lee, Tarkio; Susan Slaughter, Skidmore; Karen Potter, Kansas City, and six grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday morning at the Tarkio Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio.

THE FAIRFAX FORUM, Fairfax, Missouri, Aug 6, 1987

Cleo Martin, daughter of P. L. Price and Mina Vanfleet, was born at Fairfax Jan. 9, 1901 and died Aug. 2, 1987 at the Fairfax Hospital at the age of 86 years, 6 months, 23 days.
She graduated from Fairfax High School.
On Feb. 21, 1921 she married Wayne Martin and they moved to the P. L. Price farm northeast of Fairfax. They lived there until they bought the 80 acres of land east of Fairfax. After living there several years they bought 186 acres of land 1/2 mile east of Fairfax on Highway 59 where they lived for 20 years, farming and raising registered Polled Hereford cattle.
They were parents of two daughters, Maxine and Allene.
In 1962 they built a new home in Fairfax and moved to town.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayne, on Jan. 11, 1976, and a grandson, Billy Wayne, in 1967.
Survivors include the two daughters, Mrs. Maxine Oswald, Fairfax, and Miss Allene Martin, St. Joseph; two granddaughters, Mrs. Jim Thompson, Mound City, and Mrs. Sam Johnson, Savannah; two great grandsons, Gregory Ryan Johnson and Jeffrey Brian Johnson, both of Savannah.
Cleo enjoyed her flowers and was an excellent china painter for a hobby. She worked side by side with her husband on the farm raising the registered cattle until his death.
Funeral services were held at the Schooler Fueral Home in Fairfax Tuesday morning, conducted by Rev Don Momberg. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Thalia Beck was in charge of music,. Pallbearers were: J.W. Hawkins, Wendele Wasserfallen, Jay Smith, Jim Thompson, Sam Johnson and Hank Oswald.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20,1988, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio for Lizzie Matheny of Rock Port, Missouri. Reverends Cleo Colville and EE. Basye officiated. Interment was made in Center Grove Cemetery at Westboro, Missouri.

Lizzie (Erwin) Matheny, age 96, passed away October 17, 1988, at the Pleasant View Rest Home in Rock Port. She was born March 15,1892, in Bolivar, Missouri, the daughter of Sallie (Ayers) and William Buchanan Erwin. Lizzie attended Polk County rural schools near Bolivar. Upon graduation she worked with her father, kept house, and helped with family chores,
Lizzie was united in marriage to Clarence Matheny on April 22, 1916. They moved to the Westboro area where they farmed for 40 years until moving to Tarkio in 1948. Lizzie was employed as a nurses aide for the Fairfax Community Hospital in Fairfax, MO, and later worked in the Omaha, Nebraska, and Coin, Iowa, communities, returning to Tarkio after 14 years.   Mr. Matheny passed away on February 2,1981. Since 1984, Lizzie has been a resident of Pleasant View. In her later years Lizzie continued enjoying her garden and canning vegetables. While in her 80's, she continued creating lovely handwork and completed quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lizzie is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Roger (Elizabeth) Rasmussen, Prescott, Arizona, Mrs. Maralee Bright, Northboro, Iowa, and Mrs. Carrol (Dorothy) Green of Westboro; two sons, Clarence Matheny, Jr., of Loveland Colorado, and Wendell Matheny of Yates Center, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Rita Matheny of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Lizzie was preceded in death by one son, Richard Matheny, two sisters and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the United Methodist Church of Tarkio, and the Pleasant View Rest Home of Rock Port.

THE TARKIO AVALANCHE, Tarkio, Missouri, Oct 27, 1988

John R. Mayes was born March 23, 1931 the son of Edward Marshall and Lucy Gertrude Smith Mayes in Tarkio. He died at the Anderson Residential Care Facility in Anderson, Mo. on March 29,1996 at the age of 65 years and 6 days.
He grew up in Atchison county and lived here until 1948 when the family moved to Atchison, KS. Since that time he has also lived in Lamar, Mo., Kansas City, and Anderson, Mo.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Lamar, Mo.
Preceding him in death were five brothers and one sister, and his parents: Charles Mayes, Marshall Mayes, Marden Mayes, Eddie Mayes, Jim Mayes, Madeline Mayes.
Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Bell of Fairfax and Alma S. Myers of Kansas City, Mo.
Graveside services were held at the Center Grove Cemetery near Westboro Monday, April 1, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg. Interment was in Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro.

Charles Asa McDaniel, 92, Skidmore, died Tuesday, August 2, 1988, at Parkdale Manor, in Maryville.
The son of George Patton and Cora Lee (Thomas) McDaniel, he was born Jan. 16,1896, in Fairfax. On Dec. 24,1919, near Skidmore, he married Gladys M. Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys, Skidmore; one daughter, Betty J. Beverlin and husband Homer D. White, Bear Lake, Minn.; two grandsons,   five great grandchildren. McDaniel served in the U. S. Army during World War I and worked as a farmer and an auto mechanic. He was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Skidmore; Masonic Lodge No. 511; AF and AF, Skidmore and 3rd Degree Sam R. Albright American Legion Post No., 411; Skidmore.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 3, 1988, at the Burr Oak United Methodist church, Skidmore, Rev. Raymond Forsyth officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore.
Graveside Masonic service, under the direction of the Sam R. Albright Post No. 411, in memory of McDaniel was held.
Memorials will be to the Burr Oak United Methodist Church.

Mildred E. McKinney, 82, Maryville, died Wednesday, July 22, 1987 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1904 at Minden, Mo. to Lent L. and Pearl E. Walker Bogard, Fairfax, she had been a resident of Maryville for over 20 years.
A native of Fairfax, she married Gilbert E. 'Mac' McKinney April 21, 1924 in Savannah.
She was a graduate of Fairfax High School, and attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville. She was a retired school teacher, having taught a number of years. She was a member of the Pickering Christian Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Oct. 22, 1985; two grandsons, Jody Wyman and Jack Claytor; and a sister Maude Prettyman.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Alpha (Mrs. Joe) Dean Wyman, Hopkins, and Doris (Mrs. Jack) Jean Claytor, San Bernadino, Calif.; three grandchildren, JoBeth, Jackie and Sammy Claytor; three great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Faye Bogard DeFarkas, Spencer, la.
Services were held Saturday, July 25 at Price Funeral Home, the Rev. Delbert Biehle officiated.
Burial was in Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio for Florence L. (Prather) McMillan of Tarkio. Reverend Jim Culver officiated. Interment was made in the Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Tarkio.
Florence L. (Prather) McMillan, age 90, passed away Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming. She was born April 9, 1909, northwest of Tarkio to Anna (Bentley) and Harry Rankin Prather. Her early education was received in the Clover Hill Rural School and Tarkio Elementary School. In 1927, she graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio.
After her graduation from Tarkio College in Tarkio in three years, Florence embarked on her teaching career. For four years, she taught and also served as principal in Cambridge, Iowa; taught for three years in Des Moines, Iowa, schools; and then returned to Tarkio. Further post-graduate education was done at the University of Denver; University of California in Guatemala, South America; and Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, attaining her master's degree in Library Science.

On February 5, 1937, Florence was united in marriage to Jackson David McMillan in Tarkio. For many years, while rearing their family of three sons, David, Harry and Michael, Florence and Jack owned and operated the Pantorium Cleaners in Tarkio. As a part of the business community of Tarkio,
Florence proudly accepted her civic responsibilities. In January of 1955, she returned to teaching. For nearly 20 years, she taught English at Tarkio High School in Tarkio. Her special dedication to her teaching profession gained her a tremendous respect from students, fellow teachers and administrators as well. Her teaching expanded beyond the classroom as her "lessons of life" touched a multitude of lives. Following her retirement in 1975, she remained active in her church, and educational and social activities. Jack passed away October 23, 1969.
Florence was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tarkio and the United Methodist Women; Delta Kappa Gamma - Women Educators of the World; Tarkio Chapter FF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood; the Na­tional Education Association; Atchison County Teachers' Association; Women's Advisory Board of Tarkio College; and had been honored by receiving the Alumni Citation from Tarkio College.
Survivors at the time of Florence's death included her sons, Dr. David Lee McMillan and daughter-in-law, Frances Huston McMillan, Neosho, Missouri, Harry Allen McMillan and daughter-in-law, Virginia Noble McMillan, Western Springs, Illinois, and Michael Prather McMillan, Fairview, Kansas; and six grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth McMillan, Amy Frances McMillan, Huston David McMillan, Katherine Ann McMillan, John Andrew McMillan and Stuart Michael McMillan. Florence's son, Harry Allen McMillan, passed away May 16, 1999.Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Tarkio; Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, Missouri; or the Florence McMillan Educational Scholarship Fund.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 1999, at the Church of God in Craig, Missouri, for Cleota L. Monroe of Tarkio. Reverend Carolyn Butler and a minister from the Caring First Assembly of God Church in St. Joseph, Missouri, officiated. Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Craig under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home of Craig.

Clyde C. Moody, 69 of Eureka   Springs, Ark died at the VA hospital in Little Rock, Ark. on Oct 26, 1983 after being a patient there, since July 3 of this year. Funeral services were held in Eureka Springs on Oct. 29 and burial was in the Walden Cemetery,  Eureka Springs, Ark.    

  The Moody family moved to Fairfax in 1957 where they owned and operated a popular    eating place featuring fish fries. He was an   active supporter of the Fairfax Merchants while living in this area. They moved to Ark. in 1969.
He is survived by the three children, Sharon Taylor, Larry Abbott, both of Rock Port and Bill Abbott of Joplin, and l grandchildren.

James Cecil Moore was born October 4,1916 at Craig, Missouri, to Lela and Ed Moore. Growing up in this farm community, he attended grade school and high school. He later moved his family to St. Joseph.
On June 27, 1942 he married Florence Kaiser in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a truck driver for Watson Bros. & Western Freight. In 1951 he and his family moved to Denver. He drove for Navajo Freight Lines for 25 1/2 years; retiring in October of 1976.
He passed away on June 20,1987 at his home in Edgewater, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife and five children: Kenneth of Lincoln, Neb.; Sharon Spaulding, Piano, Texas; Jim and John of Englewood, Co. and Jacqueline Peden, Colorado Springs, Co.; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
In 1942 Jim (Cecil) was inducted into World War II and served with the
th Infantry Division until he was wounded in Okinawa in 1945. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific ribbon.
Jim had remained active for the past 25 years with the 96th division attending reunions every July. It gave Jim and Florence much pleasure and joy to spend time with old army buddies and their families.
Jim was also a memberof the John S. Stewart Post No 1 and the George G. Klumker Post No 22 DAV.

Alma Elizabeth New Morrison, Westminister, Calif., 90 died Dec. 12, 1997 at a hospital in Westminister, Calif.
Alma Morrison was born Nov. 7, 1907, the daughter of Mary (Jackson) and Yuba New. She was baptised and confirmed at St. Oswald's in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. She graduated from Daleview High School in 1925 and attended Tarkio College. She taught school many years in Prescott, Ariz and Downey, Calif.
In 1932 she married John A Neidert. To this union, two daughters were born, Mary Elizabeth Strunk and Barbara Jo Harshfield, both of Phoenix, Ariz.
After the death of her husband, she married Bert W. Martin and they lived in Prescott, Ariz. After his death, she married W. E. (Gene) Morrison. He survives of the home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Neidert; and husband, Bert W. Martin; and one brother, James Russel New.
Surviving besides her husband and two daughters, is one brother, Joseph Jackson New of McAdoo, Tex; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James R. New, Liberty is a nephew and Phyllis Ann Burke, Rock Port, is a niece.
Services were held in Westminister, Calif.

Memorial services are pend­ing for Martin M. "Mick" Morrison, Jr., of Burlington Junction, Missouri. Services are under the direction of Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel of Burlington Junction.
Martin M. "Mick" Morrison, Jr., age 50, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 7, 1999, at his home in Burlington Junction. He was born August 25, 1948, at Seneca, Kansas, to Catherine (Krotzinger) and Mitchalin Morrison, Sr. He moved to Tarkio at a very young age and graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio in 1966.
Mick served with the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He had worked as a mechanic for
John Deere since high school. He was employed by Maryville Implement in Maryville where he had worked for 28 years at the time of his death.
Mick was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tarkio. He was also a member of the Rolla Dicks Post #315 of the American Legion in Burlington Junction; the Masonic Lodge #470 AF & AM of Maryville, Missouri; the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of St. Joseph; and the Burlington Junction Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include: Mick's mother, Ethel Morrison, Burlington Junction; three brothers, Bud Worl, Shenandoah, Iowa, Jim Worl, Atlanta, Georgia, and Chuck Morrison, Tuttle, Oklahoma; one sister, Maryalice Staples, Burlington Junction; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mick was preceded in death by his father, Martin M. Morrison, Sr., in 1994; and his grandparents. Memorials may be directed to the Mick Morrison John Deere Memorial Scholarship.

B. W. Nauman, Jr., son of Bryan W. and Mary U. (Mavity) Nauman, Sr. was born June 2, 1920 in New Point, MO. During his early years his family lived in Lawton, Ok. where he attended rural schools. They returned to the Corning, Mo. area where he graduated from Corning High School in 1939. He continued to farm while attending the Flight Aeronautical School in Lincoln, Nebr.
On Dec. 3,1941 he entered the United States Air Force. While serving his country overseas, he was in the European Theatre as a B-24 flight engineer and gunner flying over 50 missions. B. W. received the Purple Heart, Air Medal, two Gold Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, and received his honorable discharge in Oct. 1945.
On July 25,1944 he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Wolf in Boise, Idaho. They returned to the Corning community to farm. From 1958 to 1960 they lived and farmed in the Ravenwood, Mo. area, returning to the Rock Port community in 1960. They retired from farming in 1990.

For 12 years he was a bus driver for the Rock Port schools.

B.W. passed away March 1,1998 at the Community Hospital, Fairfax, at the age of 77 years. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Rock Port, where he was actively a Sunday school teacher and a former elder. He was a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post No. 49 of Rock Port.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons, Barry and Rickey Nauman.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of the home in rural Rock Port; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Kathy Nauman, Shawnee, Kans; daughter and son-in-law, Bonita L. and Chris Haer, Craig; sister and brother-in-law, Cozette and Melvin Krutz, Corning; seven grandchildren, Amy and Hilary Nauman, Amanda, Tammy, William, Ashley and Jared Haer; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the First Christian Church in RockPort, conducted by Rev. Tim Carey, pastor of the Rock Port Lutheran Church.
Interment was in Linden Cemetery, Rock Port.
Graveside military flag folding was under the auspices of Ralph Greer American Legion Post No. 49.
Organist was Shirley Stoner. Soloist was Betty Wennihan. Pallbearers were Duane Deatz, James Dougan, Andrew Gutierrez, Larry Deatz, J. B. Pearce, Richard Zach. Honorary pallbearers were John Pearce, Marlin Gayler, Charles Baird.

Mary Lou Osburn was born Oct. 15,1913 in Morristown, Tenn. and died at the hospital in Fairfax July 28, 1987 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 13 days after a lengthy illness.
Her parents were Cora Lee and James P. Noe. They moved to Atchison county when she was a child and she graduated from Daleview high school, Class of 1931.
In 1933 she married James Osburn. They lived on a farm in the Daleview and Dotham areas before they moved in 1942 to the Skidmore area. They were parents of four children, Joyce, Judy, Barbara Jean and Donald.
She was an active member of the Burr Oak Methodist Church, the Burr Oak Ladies Aid, Skidmore OES and Skidmore Study Club.
Preceding her in death were two daughters, Barbara Jean Osburn in 1953, and Judith Combs in 1981.
Survivors include the husband, James of Parkdale Manor Rest Home, Maryville; a son, Donald Osburn, Columbia; a daughter, Joyce James, Houston, Tex.; a brother, James C. Noe, St. Joseph; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 31 at Burr Oak Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Jerry Moon. Interment was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
Mrs. Bob Sefrit was in charge of music and she accompanied Greg and Royce Clement who sang "In The Garden" and "Sunrise Tomorrow". Pallbearers were Stanley Osburn, Mark Noe, Kent Fisher, Wesley Ward, Elvin Ungles, Gary Lemon.

Leona Melinda Hahn Owens, 86 of Mound City died at a Mound City nursing home March 7, 1998. She was born Dec. 12, 1911 on a farm near Craig, the daughter of Theodore and Allie Hahn.
She attended the Marietta Country School and graduated from Craig High School in 1930. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville. She taught for two years at the Wild Rose School near Craig and two years at Summit School near Mound City. She worked from 1939 to 1953 at Owens Garage in Craig.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Craig.
On March 29, 1936 she was married to Alex Owens at Maryville.She was preceded in death by her parents; and a half-sister, Mabel Davis Owens.
Survivors include the husband, Alex Owens, Mound City; one son, Kenneth Owens, St Joseph; three grandchildren, Chris Owens, Kena Hartigan, St. Joseph and Kevin Owens, Mound City; two great grandchildren, Kristi and .Alexandria Owens.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon. March 10 at the Presbyterian Church in Craig, conducted by Rev. W. O. Yates. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig.
Pallbearers were Billy Paul Sharp, Claude Corbin, Terry Tubbs, Dennis Showalter, Lloyd Whitham, Rodger Jackson and Jim Thomson.

Scott Edward Peterson, 23, Fairfax, died Saturday, Oct 8, 1988, at Community Hospital, Fairfax, following an automobile accident
Mr. Peterson was born in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1983.
He was employed by the Fairfax Manufacturing Co. and has been employed as a wood worker for the Walnut Shop in Fairfax since January of 1987. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather Pat and Lloyd Whitham of the home; two brothers, Eric, of the here and Brian, Tabor, stepbrother, Johny Whitham, state of Oklahoma;   two stepsisters Lisa Hollan, Wellman. Ia., and Patricia Whitham, Storm Lake Ia. maternal grandparents, Lynn and Marie Sipes, Oregon, Mo.; and paternal stepgrandparents: Wade and Pearl Whitham, Craig.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Interment was in the Tarkio Home Cemetery.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, Missouri, for George William Schomburg of Rock Port. Pastor Tim Carey officiated. Interment was made in Greenhill Cemetery in Rock Port under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel of Rock Port.
George William Schomburg, age 80, passed away Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Pleasant View Rest Home in Rock Port. He was born in Nance County, Nebraska, on August 5, 1918, to Adeline Louise (Stark) and Henry Carl Schomburg. He attended school near Fullerton, Nebraska, and then came to Missouri to farm with Fred Fisher. Ayear later, he returned to Nebraska to farm with his family.
After moving back to Missouri in 1938, George farmed and then entered the United States Army Air Corps in April of 1941. A highly decorated veteran of World War II, he received many medals for bravery: the American Defense Service Medal; American Theater Campaign Medal; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; Victory Ribbon; one Service Stripe; and one Overseas Service Bar. On November 20,1945, he received his honorable discharge.
During the above years, George and wife, Ruth, became the parents of one son, Jerry. They later divorced. George was united in marriage to Dorthy Geneva Davis on November 29, 1949, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Langdon, Missouri, by Rev. L.C. Weitzenkamp. They lived and farmed in the Langdon, Missouri, and Rock Port communities where George worked for Raymond Ottmann Trucking.

During the early 1960s, George trucked in partnership with Ralph Perry. Later, George and Dorthy owned and operated Schomburg Trucking, Fertilizer and Custom Harvesting. Last November, they celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Due to ill health and deteriorating eyesight, George entered into early retirement. Dorthy passed away December 30, 1998.
At an early age, George was baptized and later confirmed at Timber Creek Lutheran Church in Belgrade, Nebraska, and was a member of the the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port at the time of his death. For 53 years, he had been a member of the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49 of Rock Port.
Survivors include: four sons and daughters-in-law, Warren G. and Lyndia Schomburg, Rock Port, Martin and Becky Schomburg, Tarkio, Anthony C. and Joan Schomburg, Godfrey, Illinois, and Jerry and Rhonda Schomburg, Kirkwood, Missouri; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bernard Heits, Fairfax, Missouri, and Allison and Leonard Hallmark, Kansas City, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna Sass, Lyons, Nebraska.
Besides his parents and wife, Dorthy, George was preceded in death by sister, Bertha Gilson, and brother, Ed Schomburg. Memorials maybe directed to the First Lutheran Church or the Nutrition Center, both in Rock Port.

THE FAIRFAX FORUM, Fairfax, Missouri, May 13, 1999

George Schoneman of Fairfax was found dead at his home early Friday morning by Tom McCall and Dale Wennihan. Mr. McCall noticed lights on in the house and called Mr. Wennihan and they went and investigated and found Mr. Schoneman. Mr. Schoneman had been a supper guest of his neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hicks Thursday evening and Mrs. Hicks had sent home left overs for him and he had put them in the refrigerator and apparently sat down in a chair in the kitchen where the neighbors found him.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Rock Port Sunday afternoon, Oct. 23 conducted by Charles Gash. Interment was in Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port.
Pallbearers were Tom McCall, Virgil Watts, Wayne Whitford, Dennis Rosenbohm, Gabe Rogers, Earle Walker, Dr. E.L. Niedermeyer, Heini Scamman and Virgil Rosenbohm.
Mrs. Charles Gash was in charge of music and she accompanied James K. Hunter who sang.

George D. Schoneman was born on June 25, 1902 near Phelps City, the son of Otto and Mary Mattison Schoneman and died Oct. 20, 1983 at the age of 81 years at his home in Fairfax. He attended the Harmes country school through elementary years.
On April 7, 1928, he was married to Violet Caudle in her family home in Rock Port. They became the parents of a daughter, Phyllis Ann. Mrs. Schoneman passed away on June 30, 1944.
A few years later, George moved to Fairfax where he has lived over 30 years. After retirement from farming, he worked 12 years at the Fairfax Community Hospital. Since then, he has spent much of the time buying, selling and refinishing antique furniture.
He was devoted to his family and especially treasured the time he shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fishing was a life-long hobby and in recent years, he found it even more fun to fish with his grandsons. He was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors are his daughter, Phyllis Ann Ball, son-in-law, Marion, Skidmore; three grandchildren: Marion Stephen Ball, Mound City, Ray Alan Ball, Maryville, and Jane Ann Ball, St. Joseph, Mo., and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents: 5 brothers and sisters.

Graveside military rites were conducted under the auspices of the Allen Schiffern American Legion Post #199 of Tarkio.
James Blaine Shaum, Jr., age 79, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at the Maryville Health Care Center in Maryville, Missouri. He was born March 20, 1920, in Tarkio to Helen (Rankin) and James Blaine Shaum, Sr. A lifelong resident of Tarkio, Jim graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio in 1937 and Tarkio College in Tarkio in 1941 receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in business.
In 1941, Jim entered the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific as commander of an L.S.T. Following his discharge from the Navy, he received his Master's in Business Administration from Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was elected president of his graduating class.

Preceding Jim in death besides his parents was one sister, Annabelle Brown. Memorials may be directed to the Tarkio Presbyterian Church in Tarkio.

Herbert Donovan (Buck) Stoner, 81, of Carbondale, Ks. died Thursday, Sept 29, 1988 at a Overbrook, Ks nusing home.
The son of Lenard Albert and Rena Pearl South. Stoner, he was born Nov. 19, 1906. He married Margaret Brim on Feb. 24,1936.
Stoner went to the Fairfax schools and graduated class of 1925. In 1942 he moved to Harvard, Ill. and operated a blacksmith shop. He moved to Overbrook, Ks in 1954 and ran a blacksmith shop until he retired in 1970. In 1986 he and his wife moved to Fairfax, and they returned to Kansas in March of 1988 to make their home.
Survivors include the wife, Margaret of the home in Carbondale, Ks.; two daughters and one son, Mrs. Betty Thornton, Overbrook, Ks., Mrs. Mary Kuryliw, Harvard, III, Gary Stoner, Carbondale, Ks.; one sister, Beulah Ingle, Lawrence, Ks; one brother, Beuford Stoner, Fairfax; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at the English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax Saturday morning, Oct. 1.

Luella C. Taylor was born August 8, 1898 in Watson, Missouri the daughter of William and Clara LaHue Taylor. She passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri on August 6,1987 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 29 days.
When Luella was a young girl she attended Mount Pleasant Country School. All of her adult life was spent working on the farm and caring for others. After her parents death she lived with her sister Mrs. Jess (Edith) Lewis. They moved to the Fair Oaks Senior Citizens Housing in Rock Port in 1972. Edith passed away in 1973. During 1984 Luella became a resident of Pleasant View.
Luella was a kind person who enjoyed the simple things in life and always felt at home wherever she was. For many years she attended the Rupe's Grove Methodist Church near Fairfax and later became a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a niece June Yarborough of San Diego, California and a nephew James Shaver of Goodland, Kansas, and a host of friends.
Besides her parents, she was prededed in death by 3 sisters: Edith, Gertrude and Helen and 4 brothers: James, Jesse, William and Olin Taylor.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8 at the Minter Funeral Chapel in Rock Port, conducted by Rev. Mark Turnbough. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.
Pallbearers were: Donald Poe, B. W. Nauman, Lloyd Scharringhausen, Eugene Scott, Lee Edward McCoy, Wendele Wasserfallen.

Lee Edward Thiemann, was born in Fairfax, Dec. 20, 1911 the son of William and Anna Thiemann. He died at his home in Tarkio, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998 at the age of 86 years and 16 days.
Mr. Thiemann taught business at the former Platt-Gard Business College in St. Joseph; worked for the Standard Oil Co. in Independence; and the Beech Aircraft and Cessna Aircraft, both in Wichita, KS. and retired and moved to Tarkio in 1990.
He was a graduate of Fairfax High School, class of 1929, and Tarkio College. He was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church.
On July 3,1943 he married Joye Elton and she survives of the home Tarkio.
Graveside services and burial was held Friday afternoon at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Fairfax, conducted by Rev. James Culver.

Hazle June Stevens Thomson was born June 18, 1918, southwest of Blanchard, la., the daughter of Robert Leslie and Ora Nuckolls Stevens. She passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Mo. on Aug. 6, 1988 at the age of 70 years, 1 month, and 18 days.
She graduated from North Star School.
She was united in marriage to Waldo Thomson on Feb. 24,1937. All their married life they have lived and farmed southeast of Fairfax.
Hazle was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church and took a very active part in all its activities especially the Women's Association and Sunday School. She was a member of the 49'ers Hobby Club. She was a member of the Fairfax Chapter 373 Order of Eastern Star and had been past matron and past district deputy grand matron. One of her chief interests was Fairfax Community Hospital. She had served on the development council and currently was president of the Community Hospital Auxiliary.

Irvin H. Thurnau, 69, died Friday evening, July 24,1987, at his home in Craig.
A native and lifelong resident of the Craig area, he was a retired farmer.
Mr. Thurnau was a member of the Saint Peter's Lutheran Church and the Story Hardin Legion Post No. 154.
Surviving are his wife, Vera Thurnau of the home; a daughter, Linda Burnsides, Mound City; a son, Gary of Lee's Summit; two sisters, Erma Heits, Craig and Mildred Lovelady, Valley Center, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Saint Peter's Lutheran Church in Craig. Burial was at the IOOF Cemetery in Craig.

Pete Olin Underwood, age 93, passed away October 19,1988, at the Pleasant View Rest Home in Rock Port. He was born December 10, 1894, near Rock Port, the son of Anna (Handley) and Edward J. Underwood. Pete attended New Hope Country School and Rock Port High School. He farmed with his parents. In the early 1930's, Pete served as Atchison County Treasurer at the County Court House in Rock Port. In the late 1950's. Pete retired from farming, and moved into the town of Rock Port. He has been a resident of Pleasant View since 1985. Pete was a faithful member of the Rock Port Church of Christ. Through the years, he loved to sing and play the organ.
Pete is survived by one sister, Mrs. Andy (Mabel) Reberry of Rock Port; one niece, Beulah Gerdes of Overland Park, KS; and one nephew, Lorraine Underwood of Omaha, NE. Besides his parents, Pete was preceded in death by one infant brother, and brothers Jesse and Raymond.

Mrs. Gary Wennihan, accompanied by Perry Scott, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "It Will be Worth It All". Pallbearers were Forrest Johnson, Billy P. Sharp, Kirby Felumb, Dennis Wright, Richard Jackson, and Harold Gray.
Sarah Almyra (Allie) Ward, daughter of Alfred and Anna (Christian) Angel, was born on a farm near Fairfax July 17, 1886, and died in the Fairfax Community Hospital Thursday, May 8.
Her early life was spent near Fairfax and she attended Fairfax public schools. She also attended Tarkio high school and Tarkio College, class of 1902. On October 15, 1905, she was married to Thomas A. Ward Sr. at the Presbyterian manse in Tarkio. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Craig and for many years taught the Queen Esther Sunday school class there. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Mound City. She was vice president of the Bank of Craig for many years and also served on the Big Tarkio Drainage District and on the Craig school board.
Surviving are her son, Thomas A. Ward, Jr.; three grandchildren, Thomas A. Ward III, Marcia Ward Pfost, both of Overland Park, Kans., and Steven A. Ward, Houston, Tex.; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clark McColl, Westboro; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and five sisters.

Ada T. (Thomson) Warren, 84, North Bend, Neb., formerly of Fairfax, Mo., and Oregon, Mo., died Thursday, March 5,1998, in a hospital in Fremont, Neb.
Mrs. Warren taught school for several years in Oregon.
Born January 11, 1914, in rural Fairfax, she grew up there and was a high school graduate of the Daleview School in Atchison County, Mo.
She received a B.A in Education from Tarkio College, Tarkio, Mo., and earned a master's degree in Religious Seminary in New York City.
Mrs. Warren moved to North Bend in 1944 and taught in the elementary grades from 1945 until retiring in the 1970s.
Mrs. Warren was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, North Bend, and the United Presbyterian Women of the church. She also was a member of the Mariners Club; the P.E.O. Chapter CT; a member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter No. 119, North Bend; had served on the Silver Haired Legislature; and was a member of the Goldenrod Garden Club.
On Sept. 3, 1936, she married the Rev. Dr. Leland A. Warren, in Fairfax. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Warren also was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha Thomson; two brothers: Ernest and Gordon Thomson; and a sister, Ruth Hills.
Survivors: a daughter, Margaret L. McKee, Glenwood, Iowa; two brothers; Eugene Thomson and   Waldo Thomson, both of Fairfax; a sister, Josephine Mathews, Fresno, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, March 11, at the United Presbyterian Church, North Bend, Ne.

Burial was in the Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Mo.

William Wayne Whitford was born Aug. 27, 1919 south of Fairfax at the farm home of his parents, Earl and Zella Whitford. He passed away March 3,1998 at his home south of Fairfax at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 3 days.
Wayne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfax. He attended school at Fairfax and graduated in 1937. Wayne married Evelyn Ann Ball on Jan. 7, 1940.
Wayne was an active farmer until ill health forced his retirement in 1986. Wayne was a 30 year 4-H leader for the Wolverine 4-H Club, with a special interest in livestock shows. For several years, Wayne participated in and supported local athletic teams. He actively followed his children and grandchildren in their sporting events, and, even in illness, continued to have a keen interest in local sports teams and activities. Wayne was proud to have attended 59 of the past 60 alumni banquets at Fairfax High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mrs. Gloria Bolton was organist, and Mrs. Margaret Graves sang "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Cory Scamman, Brad Whitford, Gary Logerwell, Greg Logerwell, Brett Logerwell and Brad Arnold.

William C. Williams, 78 of Kansas City, Kans. formerly of Fairfax, died Sunday, Feb. 22,1998 at a hospital in Leavenworth, Kans. He was born in Fairfax, Oct. 24, 1919, the son of Claude L. and Elsie L. Williams.
He grew up in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School.
Mr. Williams was a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He served in the Army during World War II, and was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church.
On Nov. 3,1956 he married Oletha Baggs in Torrance, Calif.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife in 1975.
Survivors include one son and two daughters, Leslie Williams, Kansas City, Kans; Cheryl Reynolds, Overland Park, Kans and Janet Williams, Prairie Village, Kans.; one brother, Evan Williams, Jacksonville, Fla; one sister, Charlene Burke, Fairfax; and one grandchild.
Memorial services were held at Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax Saturday afternoon. The body has been cremated. Inurnment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Word was received in Fairfax of the death of Carl Williford of Camanche, Texas. He was a former Fairfax resident and owned and operated the Fairfax Locker. Survivors include his wife, Bea, who resides in a nursing home there.
