Aldredge, Clarence Vernon -

Clarence Vernon Alldredge, son of John Allison and Effie Dale (Summa) Alldredge, was born July 30, 1919, in Gentry, Mo.
Vernon's childhood years were spent in the Gentry farming community along with his parents, older brother, Forest, and younger sister, Ruby.
He attended grade school at Center Grove and Jennings rural schools and high school in Stanberry. In 1940 he attended welding school at an aircraft company in Kansas City after completion of which he accepted a position with Kay Products Industries in Detroit, Mich., where he remained until entering the service.
It was in Detroit where he met Caroline Kowalski and they were married Feb. 20, 1943. Of this union one son was born, Robert Vernon, on July 31, 1947.
While serving with an army artillery unit during World War EE, Vernon spent 27 months of his service in Italy. During this time he was baptized in the Mediterranean Sea. Following his discharge from the military service he became a member of the Stanberry Christian Church. He joined a partnership in a garage in Stanberry briefly, then became associated with his brother, Forest C. Alldredge, in the feed and seed business. He later accepted a job as engineer at the local light and power plant in 1950. In 1961, by unanimous city council approval, Vernon became the first Natural Gas Superintendent for Stanberry. He served in that capacity until ill health forced him to resign in 1978 after 28 years of total dedication to his job and the Stanberry community.
He was a member of the Stanberry American Legion Post No. 260.
Vernon was one of the most avid outdoorsmen in this part of the country, in that he thoroughly enjoyed his outdoor hobbies of golfing, hunting and fishing. He was well respected in those fields by fellow opponents, companions and friends. He has been known as one of Stanberry's best golfers, having won the local and area tournaments several times.

Following a lengthy illness, having spent the past three months in the Veterans' Hospital in Kansas City, Vernon passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 15, at that hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Caroline; son Robert (Bob) and daughter-in-law Marilyn of Fairfax; two granddaughters, Lisa Kay, University of Missouri in Kansas City, and Marci Anne of Fairfax; his mother, Mrs. Effie Alldredge, Stanberry; one brother, Forest C. Alldredge, Stanberry; a sister, Ruby Talmadge, Stanberry; several nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were a grandson, Robbie Dale; his father, J.A. (Allie) Alldredge; and a brother in infancy, Robert Max.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 17, 1983, at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Church of Stanberry by Rev. Neil Blair with interment in High Ridge Cemetery at Stanberry under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Home.

Armstrong, Linda Ann Webster - Linda Ann (Webster) Armstrong, the daughter of Lawrence and Lucille (Bray) Webster, was born on September 30, 1945, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended school in Rock Port, Missouri, graduating in 1963.

In March of 1964, she was united in marriage to Leo D. Armstrong. They made their home in St. Louis, Missouri, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Independence, Missouri, Watson, Missouri and in Rock Port, where they lived to the present time. While living in Independence, they became the parents of a daughter, Julie. Linda attended cosmetology school and was soon employed as a hairdresser. After moving to Rock Port Linda worked at Patty’s Palace and was currently employed at Do-It-Best Hardware. Some of her favorite times were spent with Julie’s family and quilting. Linda passed away Friday, October 21, 2016, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 71.

Linda was a member of the Watson Baptist Church, Watson, Missouri. Linda was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Leo, of Rock Port; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kevin Shallenberger, Gretna, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Addison, Macie and Camden; brother, John Webster and his wife, Judy, Rock Port; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services: 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2016, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, Missouri.
Interment: High Creek Cemetery, Watson, Missouri
Open visitation 9:00 AM, Monday, October 24th, with no scheduled family visitation.

Arnold, Charles Clifford "Chalkey" -

Services for Chalkey Arnold of Fairfax were held Saturday afternoon, April 11, at the Fairfax United Methodist Church with Rev. J. Frederick Lawson in charge. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Amy Sefrit was in charge of music and she accom­panied Betty Wennihan, who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were: Wayne Bradfleld, Albert Evans, Harry Emrick, Beuford Stoner, Jim McConnell, Ed Ball. Honorary pallbearers were: Jack Pearce, Don Foley, Doyne Swan, Earl Brindle, James H. Thompson, Darrell Jones, Vernon Trauernicht, Bill VanGundy.
Charles Clifford (Chalkey) Arnold was born to James Edward Arnold and Minerva Jane Arnold in Bethany, Mo. August 14, 1903. He was the youngest of four brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded him in death. He died at the Community Hospital in Fairfax April 9, 1987 at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 25 days.
He started work at the early age of 12 doing odd jobs and helping at the railroad station. He started working for the Burlington Railroad when he was 16 and worked as agent and operator for 51 years. He received his 50 year pin and resigned from the position when the station in Fairfax was closed rather than move elsewhere. Shortly afterward he became custodian at the Fairfax Post Office which he held until no longer able to do the work, after 12 years.
He married Pauline Hackett on Oct 11,1957 and they made their home in Fairfax.
He was a member of the Moila Shrine for many years and was a drummer in the Shrine band; he was also a 50 year member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge; and a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church.
He had many friends and always enjoyed visiting and joking with them. He walked to town twice a day to visit with friends until the week before his death.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline, of the home; five nephews and nieces: Dr. Lee Arnold, St Petersburg, Fla.; Lester Arnold, Pinellas, Fla.; Dr. James Arnold, Iowa City, la.; Joe Arnold, Garden Grove, la., and Mabel June Barr, Milwaukee, Wise. Banks, Mariena Emma

Mariena Emma Banks was born August 20, 1900 near Tarkio, and passed away Tuesday, August 26, 1986 at the Fairfax Community Hospital, at the age of 86 years and 6 days.
Her parents were Alfred and Augusta Johnson Banks and she had one brother, Charles Andrew Leonard. A cousin, Mary Elizabeth Murphy, came at the age of nine years to live with the Banks family, following the death of her mother. Miss Banks was preceded in death by her parents and her brother.
She moved with her family from the farm north of Tarkio at the age of seven years to the present Banks farm east of Fairfax, where she resided until three years ago when she moved to the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.
She attended Evening Star school and graduated from Fairfax high school in 1919 and attended business college in St Joseph. In 1916 she joined the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the church choir for 60 years. She was also a member and officer of the United Presbyterian Women and the JFF Circle of the church. She had been a member of the Garden Club and Sorosis.
She is survived by many cousins. Those living in this area are Mary Craig, Tarkio; Gloria Bolton, Fairfax; Helen Clark and Leslie Murphy, Burlington Junction. Cousins Irene Murphy and Ruth Tourtelotte also reside at Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.
Mariena spent her life in devotion to her church, home and family. The photo with her mother and brother was taken in 1918 after the death of her father.

From that time she spent her days in caring for the farm, tending her large vegetable and flower gardens, watching over the farm animals, and tenderly caring for her family which extended to close cousins. This devotion carried over in work in her church and her strong Christian faith supported her throughout her life.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfax Friday afternoon, Aug. 29, conducted by Rev. Blake Richter. Interment was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio.
Pallbearers were Bruce Pyeatt, Dale Kemerling, H. A Sly, Melvin Miles, Gary Smith and Wendele Wasserfallen. Honorary pallbearers were Beuford Stoner, Wayne Whitford, Waldo Thomson, Chuck Moore, James K Hunter, James Ilsley and Glen Hawkins.
Miss Thalia Beck was in charge of music and she accompanied Margaret Graves, Dorothy Seymour and Barbara Deatz, a trio, who sang, "In the Garden" and "My God and I".
Family suggests memorials to the Fairfax Presbyterian church for choir handbells.

Barr, Glenn -

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 2, 1987, for Glenn A. Barr at Newcomber's Colonial Chapel in St. Joseph, Mo., at 10 a.m. Father Joe Miller officiated. Interment was made at Ohio Cemetery near Burlington Junction, Mo.
Glenn was born May 2, 1921, in Burlington Junction to Albert and Vista (Whittington) Barr. He passed away on April 30, 1987, at the age of 65 at his home.
After graduating from West Nodaway High School, Glenn worked as a pressman with Mead Products. He retired May 4, 1983, after 33 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War n. He was a member of the Methodist faith, 25 Year Club of Mead Products, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1668 and Graphic Communications International Union Local No. 15.
Glenn's survivors include: one son, Alan Barr, St. Joseph; three daughters, Denise Barr, Janine Barr and Patricia Stoneburner, all from St. Joseph; two sisters, Letha Yates, Burlington Junction, and Imogene Jones, Fairfax, Mo.; one brother, Robert Barr, St. Joseph; and nine grandchildren.

Beal, Olive D. - Olive was born in London, England to James and Dorothy Huddleston. During WWII after the house was lost to a bomb she and her mom went to stay with her aunt in Bedford where she met the love of her life Zane C. Beal who was in the Air Force and stationed at Bedford, England.

She came to America after the war and they were married in Quitman, MO on May 18, 1946. They farmed in Tarkio for five years until Zane took a position with Boeing in Wichita where he worked for 30 years. After Zane passed in October of 2008, Olive moved to Kuna, Idaho to be close to her daughter Zannette Vincent, where she passed at home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Dennis, and great grandson Damian. She is survived by her daughter, Zannette Vincent, grandchildren Michael D. Williams (Jennifer), David W. Williams (Arielle), Frank J. Williams (Jennifer) and Annette L. Watson (Brian), great grandchildren KayCee M. Williams, Michael D. Williams, Stephen S. Williams, Briar S. Williams, Wyatt C. Williams, Harley R. Williams, Kaela D. Williams, Tanis R. Williams, Zane K. Williams, Haley A. Anderson, Alyssa R. Anderson and Isaiah B. Sensibaugh.

She was the matriarch of our family and will be greatly missed by all.

Bedell, Lily M. -

Services for Mrs. Bert Bedell of Nishnabotna were held Monday afternoon at the Minter Funeral Home in Rock Port and burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, conducted by Rev. Charles Watson.
Lily M. Bedell, 84, died Thursday evening at a health care center at Rock Port.
She was born in Lee County, Va and moved to Missouri in 1913. She formerly lived at Nishnabotna and Corning. She married Bert Bedell in 1937 at Sidney, la. He survives of the home.
She was a charter member of the Nishnabotna Social Hour Club, and the Rock Port First Christian Church.
Surviving are three brothers, Nelson Owens, Homer Owens and Eck Owens of St. Joseph: two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a half sister; five half brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

Boyd, Mary Frances Dukes -

Mary Frances Boyd, 67, of Craig died Sunday evening, Nov. 23, at a hospital in Omaha, Nebr.
She was born in St Joseph Oct 28, 1919 to Matterson and Nola Moody Dukes.
Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Howard, on Aug. 3, 1986. They were married on July 31,1941 in Oregon, Mo. She lived most of her life in Mound City and Craig.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Craig American Legion Post No. 164.
She had been a telephone operator for several years in Holt County, Mo.
Surviving are two daughters, Roberta L. Boyd, Maryville, and Edith "Eddie" Zaiss, Craig; a son, Bobby Boyd, Rock Springs, Wyo.; a brother, Harry Dukes, Craig; a sister, Zelma Dukes, Kingman, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Services were held Friday afternoon at the New Testament Christian Church in Mound City, conducted by Rev. Merrill Ferguson. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City.

Bunch, Lois - Word was received in Fairfax by the Schooler brothers of the death of Lois Kelly Bunch, 80 of Vinta, Okla. who died in her sleep Aug 24. Burial was in Berryville, Ark. She was a cousin of the Schoolers.

Burke, Willis Mercer -

Willis Mercer Burke was born May 3, 1907 in rural Rock Port, the son of Silas Mercer and Iva Deatz Burke. He passed away at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, on March 15,1988 at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 12 days.
He attended the Rock Port schools and was a member of the 1925 graduating class which was the largest ever to graduate from Rock Port high school. He then attended college in Ames, IA

On March 3, 1928 he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Underwood at the home of the Methodist minister, Rev. Luton, in Fairfax. To this union three sons were born. They lived and farmed on the Minich farm west of Rock Port until the spring of 1931 when they moved to the McCartney farm in the Mount Pleasant district south of Rock Port. Willis continued farming and in 1947 they made their final move to the present home east of Rock Port. On Thanksgiving Day of 1949 Burke and Sons Lumber Company became a reality. All three sons served in the Armed Forces and returned to the business as partners. The lumber company has continued to the present time and is now operated by the third generation.
Through the years Willis was extremely instrumental in land developing throughout the Rock Port area, including the Willi-Gwen addition, Burke's Circle and Skyline Drive.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rock Port and the Mid-America Lumberman's Assn. and enjoyed his association with the Pitch Club, the Rock Port Golf and Country Club and the Rock Port Rotary.
On March 3, 1988, Willis and Gwendolyn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife Gwendolyn of the home; one son, Gilbert Burke of Rock Port; two brothers, Kenneth Burke of Sun City, AZ and James Burke of Rock Port; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Charles Burke and Reed Burke.
Services were held Thursday afternoon at the United Methodist church in Rock Port, conducted by the Rev. Mark Turnbough. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port.

Campbell, Faye Isabelle


Mrs. Faye Isabelle Campbell, 77, Tarkio, died Jan. 7 at the Fairfax Hospital. She was born in Eldon, la., and had lived most of her life in the Tarkio area.
She and her husband, Earl Campbell, farmed in the area and moved to Tarkio in 1956. The couple were custodians of the Tarkio school before retiring. She was a member of the Tarkio Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, of the home in Tarkio; two daughters, Lois Prewitt, Merrian, Ks., and Louise Thomason, Shawnee Mission, Ks.; two sons, Everett Campbell, Tarkio, and Elmer Campbell, Burlington, la.; two sisters, Mabel Green, Shenandoah, la., and Ethel Breazile, Riverton, la.; one brother, Okla Dahlgren, Fort Scott, Ks.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 9 at the Tarkio Assembly of God Church. Burial was at the Tarkio Home Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio.

Carter, Joseph Lee - Services for Joseph Lee Carter, 84, were held Saturday, July 18, at the Baptist Church in Whitesville.

He was born and spent his early life on a farm east of Fairfax. He graduated from Fairfax High School and was a graduate of William Jewel College.

He was a son of Eliza Frances and George Lee Carter.

Joseph Lee Carter, 84, of Bolckow, Mo., was born March 18,1903 near Fairfax and died July 16, 1987 in a Savannah nursing home.
He was the son of the late George Lee Carter and the former Eliza Frances Walkup. Mr. Carter was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Thelma Moore, March 11, 1985.
Mr. Carter had farmed most of his life in the Bolckow and Whitesville communities. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post, King City. He was a member of the Whitesville Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Delia Frances Trubey, Liberty; a son, Kenneth M. Carter, Savannah; a grandson, Robert Joseph Trubey, Lieberty; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted July 18 in the Whitesville Baptist Church with Rev James Kirley officiating. Interment was in the curch cemetery.

Close, Mary Margaret McCoy

Mary Margaret McCoy Close, 66 of Denver, Colo, passed away after a long illness Sept. 1, 1987 at the Hospice of St. John.
Services were held Sept. 4 at Crown Hill Funeral Home.
Mary was born to James and Grace McCoy in Missouri. She was married to John H. Close in 1940 at Tarkio, Mo. They farmed in the Fairfax area until moving to Colo, where she worked in food service for several years.
She is survived by three sisters and two brothers, three daughters and one son: Mary Clapper, Denver, Colo; Loretta Farmer, Lakewood, Colo.; John S. Close, Bloomfield; Bonnie Gerard, Centerville, Va; 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Corse, B.K.

The funeral of B. K Corse, brother of Virginia McMahon, of Fairfax, was held in Wellington, Mo. on Sunday, Aug 31. He was 90 years old.

Attending the funeral were Mrs McMahon and Mrs Virginia Moore, Mrs Hazel Moore, Mrs Mary Warnstaff, Mrs Alberta Deardorff, Mr and Mrs Ed Ball, Mr and Mrs David Kemerling.

Frank Edward Daily was born Dec. 30, 1927 at Scotia, Nebr. the son of Frank Ezra and Edna Roberta Weedin Daily and died at his home in Fairfax, April 5, 1987 at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 5 days.
The family came from Nebr. in 1938 to Fairfax and Frank graduated from Fairfax high school. In April 1946 he joined the Army and served until he was discharged Sept 3, 1947 at the rank of Pvt. First Class.
On Oct. 14,1951 he married Wanda Lee Dearmont in Falls City, Nebr. They made their home in Mound City until 1963, then lived in Rock Port one year, and moving to Fairfax where they have resided the last 24 years.
He owned a service sta­tion in Fairfax and operated it many years, then served as Atchison County Road Supervisor in 1975-79. He also served a two year term on the Fairfax city council as alderman of the south ward.
To this union was born one daughter, Kimberly Jean.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Odd Fellows lodge, Fairfax Kiwanis Club, and was serving on the Fair Haven housing board.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of the home in Fairfax; a daughter, Kimberly Caycedo of Provo, Utah; one granddaughter, Erica Celeste Caycedo, Provo, Utah; one sister, Doris Lee Kirby, Tarkio.
Funeral services were held at the Fairfax Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. Fred Lawson. Burial was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Mrs. Roger Southard was in charge of music and she accompanied Margaret Graves, who sang, "In the Garden" and "Church in the Wildwood"
Pallbearers were: Gary Smith, Richard Oswald, Marion Oswald, Richard L. Pearce, Dean Wiley, Scott Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers were: Dale Grubb, Bob Bennett, Jim Fisher, Hank Oswald, Jim Oswald, Dick Hicks.

Davis, Pearl McNeal -

Pearl McNeal Davis, age 85 Fairfax, died Tuesday, Feb. 7 at her home at Fair Haven. She was born March 26,1904 at Mound City.
Mrs. Davis was a member of the Presbyterian church. Attended rural Fairfax schools and graduated from Craig High School. She later attended the Atchison Beauty School, St. Joseph.
She married J. W. McNeal, in 1931 in Tarkio. They lived in Fairfax where she owned and operated a beauty shop till moving to Lincoln. They later retired and moved to Rock Port in 1970.
Mr. McNeal died in 1976.
Mrs. McNeal married Orville Davis in 1981. They returned to Fairfax in 1985. He preceded her in death August 20,1988.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, Vernon and Lou Berta Cantlin Taylor; a broth­er, Alfred Taylor.
Surviving are two daughters, Yvonne Thiesfeld, Fairfax and Ardis Garst, Watson; a sister, Mae Miller, Fair­fax; four grandchildren and 5 great grand­children.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Minter Funeral home in Rock Port. Private burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery at a later date.

Dougherty, Thomas "Tom" L. - Thomas “Tom” L. Dougherty, the son of Harold and Fern (Perkins) Dougherty, was born March 5, 1930, in Bigelow, Missouri. Tom passed away suddenly Monday, October 24, 2016, at his home in Rock Port at the age of 86.

When Tom was young, his mother, Fern, was remarried to James Burge, who was a loving father figure to him. He attended Craig High School, Craig, Missouri, graduating in 1949. On April 1, 1951, Tom entered the United States Air Force. He was stationed in France and served his country during the Korean War.

On November 2, 1952, Tom was united in marriage to Shirley Mae Allan at the Craig Christian Church. They made their home west of Craig where their son Mark was born, then moved to Nishnabotna, Missouri. They moved to Rock Port, Missouri, in 1993, following the flood.

Tom was a true farmer. In his early years he raised sheep, hogs and milk cows and then later it was strictly row crops. He also enjoyed traveling, especially in the Colorado Mountains, and drinking coffee with friends at the “Wood’s Shed.”

Tom was a member of the Rock Port Christian Church, Story-Hardin American Legion Post #164, Craig, North Star Masonic Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M., Rock Port, Scottish Rite and Moila Shrine, St. Joseph, Missouri.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Dougherty and Fern and James Burge. Survivors include wife, Shirley Dougherty, Rock Port; son, Mark Dougherty and wife, Patricia, St. Joseph; grandson, Clinton Dougherty and wife, Mackenzie, Rock Port; two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Isaac Dougherty; brother-in-law, Stanley Allan, Platte City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Janet Burnsides and husband, Bill, Mound City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 28, 2016, First Christian Church, Rock Port.
Interment: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Missouri.
Open visitation begins 9:00 A.M., Thursday, October 27, at Minter Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Masonic services will be held by North Star Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M., Rock Port, 5:30 P.M., Thursday, prior to the family visitation.

Eddy, Charles Eldon -

Charles Eldon Eddy was born February 26, 1926 in Mound City, the son of Fredrick Charles and Blanche Marie (Browning) Eddy. He passed away in Rock Port on July 2,1986 at the age of 60 years of an apparent heart attack while he was working as a painting contractor in Rock Port.
Charles spent his early years in the Fairfax area and graduated from Fairfax high school. He entered the United States Army in 1944 and served his country during World War II. Alter receiving his honorable discharge in 1947 he returned to Atchison county, Mo. and began working for the Atchison County Library where he was employed for 28 years.
On May 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Maxine Lucille (Hall) in Fairfax. They made their home in Rock Port where he continued working for the library. In the summer of 1957 they purchased the Dairy Sweet in Rock Port which they operated until 1973. He retired from the library in January of this year. Charles will always be remembered as that "familiar face" on the bookmobile. For the past several years has worked as a painting contractor through-out the area and has served the community with pride.
He was a faithful and active member of the Rock Port Baptist Church and also took pride in his many civic organizations and activities serving in any capacity where needed. Being a member of the Rock Port Masonic Lodge No. 157 AF&AM, he was presently serving as secretary. He was also a member of Rock Port Chapter No. 440 Order of the Eastern Star and the Ralph Greer American Legion Post No. 49.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of the home in Rock Port; one son, Alan Charles Eddy of Shenandoah, la.; one brother, Robert B. Eddy of Baton Rouge, La., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Rock Port Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. George Owens. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Geneva Deatz, organist, and Evelyn Jones, pianist, accompanied Lynn Hunter, soloist Pallbearers were: H. A Hawkins, Scott Hawkins, Richard Hawkins, Greg Hall, Gary Hawkins, James Dale Irvine.

Egbert, Harry Lynn -

Harry Lynn Egbert, 84, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, at Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio. Harry was born in Atchison County, Mo., on Sept. 15, 1900, to William and Mary (Walker) Egbert. He attended the Eureka and Chicken Brissel Country Schools south of Blanchard, Iowa.
On Jan. 20, 1920, Harry was married to Ethel Fay Clark at the Christian Church in Maryville, Mo. He had farmed northwest of Burlington Junction and worked as a mechanic in town for about 15 years. He then moved to Mound City where he worked as a mechanic for about 20 years, retiring in 1962. He moved to Tarkio in 1972.
Immediate survivors include: his wife, Ethel Egbert, of the home in Tarkio; five sons, Kenneth Egbert, Tarkio, Clark Egbert, Plant City, Fla., Keith Egbert, Tarkio, Wendell Egbert, Mound City, and Max Egbert, Osborn, Mo.; one sister, Fern Francis, Climax Springs, Mo.; one brother, Donald Egbert, Climax Springs; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Carroll and Gary Lynn; one sister, Helen Henning; and one brother, Clay Egbert.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, Jan 2, 1985, at Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio. Reverend Reid Swindler officiated. Burial was at the Ohio Cemetery at Burlington Junction under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. John Egeland Friday afternoon at the Fairfax Christian Church with Rev. Charles Watson in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Marlene Ann Egeland was born in Fairfax on Feb. 15, 1936 the daughter of Ronald Lawrence and Harriet Lucille Mobley Cundall and died at the Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio March 24, 1987 at the age of 51 years, 1 month and 9 days.
She was born and raised in Fairfax and graduated from the Fairfax High School, class of 1954. She was a member of the Fairfax Christian Church.
Following graduation she worked for Dr. N. L. Cleveland as an assistant, then worked in Joplin and Neosho, Mo. until going to Missouri University, Columbia, where she attended the linotype school. Following the linotype course she was employed as a linotype operator at the Lathrop Optomist, then went to Springfield, So. Dak. where she was the linotype operator there for a weekly newspaper.
It was while she was in So. Dak. where she met John Nils Egeland and they were married in Rapid City, So. Dak. on June 10, 1962. To this union was born a daughter, Nancy. In May 1974 the family moved to Fairfax and started their own business, the J. M. & N. Machine Shop in back of the Cundall building on Broadway. Marlene was employed at the Kountry Kitchen in Fairfax.

Survivors include her husband, John of the home in Fairfax; daughter, Nancy Engeland of Kansas City, Ks; her mother, Harriet Cundall, Fairfax; and two brothers, Lawrence R. Cundall, Bramalea, Ontario, Canada, and Thomas J. Cundall of Fairfax.

Farmer, W.D. "Buck" - W.D. (Buck) Farmer, the son of Ezra and Alma (Funkhouser) Farmer, was born July 3, 1921, in Atlanta, Missouri. He attended Atlanta High School, graduating in 1940. Buck entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He served in most of the European campaigns and was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946.

On November 9, 1946, Buck was united in marriage to Betty Sue Thompson at the Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri. They became the parents of one daughter, Linda. In 1950, they purchased a home in Gashland, Missouri, which later became Kansas City, Missouri, where they lived to the present time.

Buck was employed for 38 years by Owens Corning Fiberglass as a millwright and special equipment maintenance group leader in the machine shop. Less than three years into his career, Buck received an award from the plant engineer for his suggestion concerning installing insulators on H. Line. Buck retired from Owens Corning on July 8, 1983. Buck’s philosophy was “Farmers Don’t Retire, They Just Change Fields.” He was then employed by Bargain Barn Furniture in Gladstone, Missouri, for 22 more years, retiring in 2006.

Buck was a member of the Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church and helped construct the building. He was also a member of the Millwright Union. Betty passed away September 13, 2013. Buck passed away with his daughter by his side, Friday, October 21, 2016, at his home in Kansas City, at the age of 95.

In addition to his parents and wife, Buck was preceded in death by sister, Mary Nedra Peterson and brother, Donnie Farmer. Survivors include daughter, Linda S. Casey, Fairfax, Missouri; grandson, James T. Casey, Carterville, Illinois; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Shane and Easton Casey; two sisters, Theda Smithson and Val Grafton, La Plata, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fox, Inez Elizabeth "Betty" -

Graveside services for Betty Fox will be held at the Home Cemetery, Tarkio Thrusday morning at 11 a.m.
Inez Elizabeth Fox was born at Milton on March 21, 1899 the daughter of Robert Graves and Eleanor Blanche Hollenback and died Oct. 18, 1986 at the Pleasant View Rest Home, Rock Port at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 27 days.
She was born and raised in the Milton neighborhood, and attended school at Milton. She was married to Wm. Hobart Fox of Tarkio, and she worked for the telephone company in Tarkio for a while. They then moved to St. Joseph, where she was employed at Montgomery Wards as a retail sales clerk. She retired, then moved to Fairfax with her sister, Peggy Noble at the Fair Haven apartments, and in 1978 went to the rest home in Rock Port to make her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. H. Fox; sisters, and brothers, Maud Baker, Genevieve Graves, Peggy Noble, Ned Graves and Clifford Graves.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. Clifford Graves of Anthony, Kans. and several nieces and nephews

Fries, Basha Mayhugh -

Basha Mayhugh Fries was born near Skidmore Nov. 11, 1891 and died at the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio March 19, 1988 at the age of 96 years, 4 months and 8 days.
She was the daughter of James Perry and Nancy Jane Attebury Mayhugh, and attended school in the Skidmore area.
On Dec. 13, 1911 she was married to Thomas H. Fries at a Methodist church in St. Joseph. They owned and operated the Dotham Store, east of Fairfax for nine years. They also lived and farmed in the Irish Grove community before moving to town. She was a member of the Fairfax Baptist church.
Her husband died June 4,1961.
Survivors are the five daughters, Lois Coats, Kansas City, Ks; Elsie L. Strough, Kansas City, Mo; Marjorie L. Umbarger, Fairfax; Betty J. Reiley, Olathe, Ks; Edith M. Hamilton, Kimberling City; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Fairfax Baptist church with Rev. Donald Momberg in charge. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Mrs. Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied Janice Pierce, soloist. Pallbearers were six grandsons.

Graves, Ethel Leta Mann -

Ethel Leta Graves died Monday evening, Nov. 9,1987 in the Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 99 years, 9 months and 24 days.
The daughter of William A and Sarah Elizabeth Fletcher Mann, she was born Jan. 15, 1888 in Fairfax. She graduated from Fairfax high school, class of 1905 and attended Tarkio College for two years.
On Dec. 18, 1907 she was married to Richard Guy Graves of Fairfax. After she was married they moved to the farm south of Fairfax where they made their home. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian church where she and her husband enjoyed playing the violin and piano. She then became a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian church. Ethel was the last living charter member of the Easter Star Chapter No. 373, Fairfax, where she received her 50 year pin several years ago.
Mrs. Graves was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on Mar 23, 1960 and her  children, Yetive, who was 2 1/2 when she died in 1913; Sybil died at birth in 1914; and her son, Varick on May 7, 1982.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary E. Graves, Fairfax; a niece, Mrs. Gwendolyn Hawkins of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Mrs. Ann Wensel, Rome, N.Y.; Mrs. Canna Sue Pasch, St. Joseph; Guy Graves, Kelly Graves, both of Fairfax; and eight great grandchildren, Kerry and Alicia Wensel, Clinton, Erica and Clayton Pasch, LeAnn Graves, Eddie and Jennifer Graves; and one great nephew, Jim Hawkins, Fairfax.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Nov. 12 at the Fairfax Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Blake Richter officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Miss Thalia Beck was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs. Margaret Graves, who sang, "No Never Alone" and "In the Garden".
Pallbearers were Guy Graves, Kelly Graves, Jim Hawkins, Eldon Pasch, John Brown and Bill Smith.

Mrs. Marilyn Joan Graves of South Sioux City, la., daughter of Mrs. Jessie Frohn Mavity passed away Sept. 4, 1988. She was a resident of a nursing home there. She had been ill for quite sometime.

Hall, Linda Lee Brown - Linda Lee Hall, the daughter of Loren James and Edwyna Maxine (Graham) Brown, was born February 17, 1949, in Fairfax, Missouri. She attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1967. Linda then attended Tarkio College, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She later received her Master’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, as a reading specialist.

In August of 1977, Linda was united in marriage to Rodney Hall and they became the parents of one daughter, Channing. They later divorced. Linda was a loving and devoted mother. She also was always there for her parents and family when they needed her. Family was of most importance and she cherished the time spent with her two grandchildren, Bo and Harper.

Linda taught school at Tarkio Elementary School and then was a reading specialist at other area schools, including Maryville and Leavenworth, Kansas. She was currently making her home in Four Seasons, Missouri, and was working as a reading specialist at Camdenton, Missouri, schools. Linda passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, in Columbia, Missouri, at the age of 67.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by brother, Larry Brown. Survivors include daughter, Channing Lee Pike and husband, Dillion, Adrian, Missouri; two granddaughters, Isabella Bo Pike and Josephine Harper Pike; one brother, Lyle Brown and wife, Phyllis, Rock Port, Missouri; niece, Stephanie Lininger; nephews, Jason, Trent and Matt Brown; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Hanna, Dorothy -

Dorothy Hanna died on Friday, Dec. 28, 1984, at a hospital in Downey, Calif. She was born on Jan. 21, 1904, at the "Hanna Ranch," about five miles east of Tarkio. Dorothy was the first child born to Charles and Winifred Hanna.
Immediate survivors include: one sister, Phyllis Rickert of Downey; two brothers, Robert Hanna of Calimesa, Calif., and Charles Hanna of Tarkio; and several cousins.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 31, 1984. Burial was at the Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery in Gardena, Calif.

Harmon, James Claude "Jim" -

James Claude Harmon was born at Watson, Nov. 14, 1937 the son of Leonard Claude and Ruth Marie Swinehart Harmon and died Dec. 1,1986 at the age of 49 years, and 17 days at his home in Fairfax.
He lived and grew up in Atchison county, graduating from Tarkio High School, class of 1955.
On Feb. 1, 1969 he was married to Shirley Carter of Fairfax and they made their home in Fairfax where he was employed at the MFA Exchange. During his 20 years employment at MFA he had become the assistant manager and was a devoted employee and friendly and helpful to all who came to the store.
They were parents of one daughter, Leisa.
He served in the US Army in the Korean Conflict He attended the Fairfax Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and a brother, George Harmon.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home, and daughter, Leisa of the home; his step father, Gene Chastain, Tarkio; three brothers and two sisters: D. L. Harmon, Fairfax; Wayne Harmon, Marvin Harmon, Neva Chastain, all of Rock Port; Jean Stickerod, Mantua, New Jersey.
Funeral services were held at the Fairfax Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg. Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Mrs Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied Janice Pierce, soloist, who sang "Amazing Grace".

Pallbearers were Dean Wiley, Walt Stevens, Dennis Athen, H.A. Sly, Bill Umbarger, Cecil A. Young.

Harrington, Dale Leon -

Mr. Dale Leon Harrington, 58, Maryville, died Dec. 29 at his home. He was born in Fairfax Dec. 3, 1926, the son of Elmer and Sally Flanagan Harrington. He attended Fairfax schools.
He married Joan Strough in Maitland on Sept. 27, 1979. He operated a diesel repair shop in Maryville, where he had lived for the past 15 years. He was trustee at the Maryville Eagles Club No. 3669.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; four stepchildren; two brothers, Wayne Harrington, Fairfax, and Clyde Harrington, Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Delpha Whitham, Rowena Smith and Betty McCall, all of Rock Port; and 12 stepgrandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 31 at the Price Funeral Home in Maryville, conducted by Dr. Philip Needles. Burial was at English Grove Cemetery at Fairfax.

Hatcher, Dora I. Perry - Dora I. Hatcher, the daughter of Clyde O. and Stella E. (Lytle) Perry, was born January 29, 1919, in Watson, Missouri. She attended High Creek Country School in Watson.

On December 24, 1948, Dora was united in marriage to Jesse William Hatcher in St. Joseph, Missouri. They made their home in Rock Port, Missouri, and became the parents of six children, Larry, Bobby, Kenneth, Dennis, Juanita and David. They later divorced.

Dora was employed as a cook at the Hill Top and Trail Boss restaurants, Rock Port. She cherished the time with her family and took great pride in raising and caring for her children as a single parent. Dora passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 97.

In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by sons, Dennis, Kenny and Bobby Hatcher; daughter, Juanita Moreland; seven brothers, Dellis, Darrell, Roy, Maxwell, Ralph, Wayne and Ora Perry; six sisters, Lola Edwards, Thelma Daugherty, Edna Brown, Dorothy Campbell, Marjorie Winchell and Ruth Wallace. Survivors include children, Larry Hatcher and wife, Linda, Murphy, Texas, and David Hatcher and wife, Christy, Stillwater, Minnesota; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Ferguson, Tarkio, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hester, Hilda Dean Mitchell -

Hilda Dean Hester, 72 of Mound City, died Jan. 23, 1987 at the hospital in Fairfax. She was born in the Irish Grove community near Fairfax, where she graduated from Irish Grove High School.
Mrs. Hester attended Tarkio College, Tarkio and taught elementary school for two years at London school in Atchison county.
She married James Ernest Hester on Aug. 8,1936.
She was a member of the Mound City United Methodist Church.
Survivors include the husband of the home; two sons and a daughter, J. Ernest Hester, Grandview, Mo.; Sidney Dean Hester, Columbus, Ohio; Ruth Ann Trimmer, Maitland; three brothers, Merrill Mitchell, Tarkio; Raymond Mitchell, Fairfax; Glen Mitchell, Centralia; a sister, Violette Harrington, Maitland; 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Petti John & Crawford Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.

Hoepker, Luke -

Luke Hoepker, 4 year old son of Frank and Barbara Hoepker was fatally injured about 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept 11 in a freak traffic accident northeast of Fairfax on private property.

Highway Patrol Trooper James Elder reported the youth's mother was attempting to back her car from a private driveway when the accident occurred. He was told the car door came open and the boy fell out of the vehicle. The family lives on the Ed Bass farm north and east of Fairfax.
The Trooper reported the youth was struck by the right front wheel of the vehicle. After the accident, the mother drove her injured son to the Fairfax hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m.
Luke was born June 8, 1982 at the Fairfax Hospital. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses of the United Kingdom, Tarkio.

Funeral services were conducted at the Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio by one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Mervin Havercamp. Interment was in Memorial Gardens, Maryville on Sept. 13.

Howell, Everett -

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 1983, at the Tarkio United Methodist Church for Everett W. Howell of Tarkio, Mo. Reverend Asher McDaniel officiated. Interment was made in the Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Mo., under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Tarkio.
Everett W. Howell, age 88, passed away in his home on Thursday, Nov. 17, 1983.
Everett was born near Tarkio on April 1, 1895, to Martha (Caudle) and Charles F. Howell. He attended the Royal Rural School and graduated from Tarkio High School. He also attended Tarkio College. He had lived northwest of Tarkio most all of his life where he farmed until 1978. The last 12 years of his life were spent in Tarkio. He was still semi-actively involved in a small way in farm work during this time.
Everett was married to Adelaide Stanton in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 21, 1920. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and had served on the Tarkio Special Road District for several years. He enjoyed hunting and especially fishing.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois Wakefield of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sons, John Howell of Tarkio, and Wayne Howell of Sycamore, 111.; seven grand­children; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, two sisters, and three brothers.

Humphrey, Bassett Davis -

Dr. James Humphrey received notification of the death of his mother, Bassett Davis Humphrey, on Nov. 7 in Moberly Regional Hospital. Bassett was 92 years old.
Bassett was born in Madison, Mo. where she lived most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis A. Humphrey.
Bassett is survived by one son, Dr. James D. Humphrey of Mound City; one daughter, Mary Tompson of Columbia; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren
Visitation and graveside services were conducted in Madison, Mo. on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Ireland, Russel Leon - Russel Leon Ireland was born at Fairfax Dec. 20,1939 the son of Emerson Ireland and Helen Jeanette Zachary, and died at the Fairfax hospital Nov. 22,1986 at the age of 46 years, 11 months and 2 days.
Rus attended school at Mound City until the family moved to Fairfax in 1954. He graduated from Fairfax High School, class of 1957. He was a member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 483, AF & AM, and the Fairfax Optimist Club. He was the owner of the Ireland Feed and Farm Supply store in Fairfax.
Surviving are three sons, Brian W. Ireland, Kansas City; Shawn Ireland and Steven Ireland, both of Fairfax; his mother and step­father, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thiesfeld, Fairfax; his father and step­mother, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Ireland, Muskogee, Okla.; two brothers and one sister, Dr  E. W. Ireland,
Richmond, Mo.; Harvey Ireland and Lora McLaughlin, both of Fairfax; grandmother, Mrs. Ralph Zachary, Mound City; a half-sister, Shelly Buttercase, Rock Port; and three half-brothers, Dennis Ireland, Donnie Ireland and Melvin Ireland, all of Muskogee, Okla.
Funeral services were held at the Fairfax Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg Tuesday morning. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Mrs. Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied Jesse Johnson, soloist.
Pallbearers were Duane Rosenbohm, Dennis Rosenbohm, H. A. Sly, Harry Combs, Gene Carder and Dick Kemerling.
Masonic graveside services were held. The family suggests memorials to the Community Hospital, Fairfax.

Irvin, Ronald "Shorty" -

Ronald "Shorty" Irvin, 73 Westboro, died late Monday evening at his home in Westboro.
Born in Coin, Iowa, July 15, 1914, he had attended schools in Blanchard, Iowa. He had resided in Omaha for several years, and moved to Westboro in 1950.
While in Omaha, he was employed with Corn States Manufacturing Company.
In 1971, Mr. Irvin owned and operated Shorty's Grocery Store until retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church, the Westboro Merrill Smith American Legion Post No. 32 and the Tarkio, Mo., Golf Association.
He had served as a volunteer with the Westboro Volunteer Firemen.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Jerrilyn Primm, Burbank, Calif., Mary Combs, Fairfax, and Janet Sue Irvin, Rosemead, Calif.; a son, Thomas Ronald, Papillion, Neb.; two sisters, Mary Thorarinson, Salinas, Calif., and Lucille Rice, Kansas City; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday at the Westboro United Methodist Church. Burial, Center Grove Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted under the auspices of the Merrill Smith American Legion Post No. 32 of Westboro.

Kemerling, Myrle -

Myrle Kemerling, 80 of Tarkio, died Oct 27,1986 at the hospital in Fairfax. He was born July 14,1906.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Tarkio. He operated a trucking business for several years and in the late 1960s he farmed east of Tarkio and retired in 1978.
He married the former Alice Hill on Oct 11,1928 at Pickering. She preceded him in death in March 1982.
Mr. Kemerling was a member of the former York United Presbyterian church and was a democratic committeeman.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Harmon, Springfield; four sons, Myrle E. Kemerling, Waverly; Richard Lee Kemerling, Garrett, Ind.; Stanley Paul Kemerling, Columbus, Ohio; Robert Alan Kemerling, Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters and two brothers, Cecil Corbin, Eunice Hurst, Donald Kemerling, Tarkio; Pearl Harbison, Fairfax; Luretta Turnbull, Burlington Jet; William Kemerling, Springfield, Va.; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio, conducted by Rev. David Winfrey. Interment was in Tarkio Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Linville, Jewell A. - Jewell A. Linville, the daughter of Clyde Lewis and Nellie Mae (Fry) Cole, was born August 12, 1924, in Broseley, Missouri. She attended several country schools south of Rock Port, Missouri, and Nishnabotna, Missouri, High School, graduating in 1942.

On April 15, 1942, Jewell was united in marriage to Floyd Everett Linville in Rock Port. They made their home in Rock Port and became the parents of two children, Sam and Diana.

Jewell was employed at the Rock Port Fountain, serving the kids all kinds of flavored soda, ice cream and food. In the early 1960’s, Jewell was employed by the Rock Port Market as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1983.

Jewell and Everett loved traveling, especially to the southern United States during the winter months. She enjoyed riding her bicycle, mowing the yard, working a large garden, baking and cooking. Jewell was a member of the Rock Port Baptist Church. Everett passed away in 1997. Jewell passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 92.

Besides her parents and husband, Everett, Jewell was preceded in death by son-in-law, Larry Abbott, and siblings, Leo, Mary, Ollie, Tulla, Woodrow, Dewey, Mildred, Stella and Beulah. Survivors include son, Sam Linville, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; daughter, Diana Abbott, Rock Port; former daughter-in-law, Melva Linville, Kansas City; four grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Annette, Eric and Craig; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Cole and wife, Mary, Sparks, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services: 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 3, Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port.
Inurnment: Elmwood Cemetery, Rock Port.

Litherbury, Anne -

Callie Anne Litherbury was born June 6,1892 on the family farm northeast of Fairfax the daughter of Charles Thomas and Thalia DeSilva Litherbury and died in Omaha, Nebr. Nov. 10, 1986 at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Anne was born and reared on her parent's farm northeast of Fairfax. She attended the Christian Church that was located one mile north of her home and received her formal education at Long Branch school, one mile east of her home.
Anne and her sister, Bea Litherbury moved from their farm home east of Fairfax to Omaha, Nebr. 20 years ago. In the later years when she and her sister were unable to care for themselves, their niece Rogene Thompson, came to live with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters and one brother, Inez, Mary, May (Mrs. Perry Beck), Bea, and Roscoe.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Nov. 14 at the Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax, conducted by Rev. Blake Richter. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Thalia Beck was in charge of music. Pallbearers were Earl Brindle, Charles E. Litherbury, Doug Thompson, Vernon Trauernicht, Daun Thompson, Wayne Bradfield.

Long, Judy Flossie Hunley -

Judy Flossie Long 89, passed away Sept. 20 at the Community Hospital in Fairfax. She was born Jan. 2, 1898 in Middleboro, Ky., the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Hunley.
She was married to Summers Fred Long on March 26, 1913 in Tennessee. They moved to the Hamburg, la. area in 1917 and farmed, later moving to the Skidmore and Des Moines, la. areas and continued farming.
They moved to Tarkio in 1975. Mr. Long passed away in April of 1979. Judy contined living in Tarkio and became a resident of Bethesda Care Center in 1985.
She attended the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio.
She is survived by two daughters: Virgie Richards, Sidney, la., and Pirlie Elverston, Yelm, Wash.; two sons: Wayne long, Portland, Ore., and Freddie Long, Elkhart, la.; two sisters: Lucille Jones, Tarkio, and Billie Lovet, California; 13 granchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Almon and Olvie: 10 sisters and two brothers.
Graveside service were held Sept 22 at the Tarkio Home Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Kenneth Best Interment was at the Tarkio Home Cemetery. Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio, was in charge of services.

Moore, Donald D. -

Donald D. Moore, 85 of St Joseph, died Friday morning, May 1, 1987 at a St Joseph hospital.
Born at Tarkio, he resided in St Joseph since 1930. A retired machinist for the St Joseph Light & Power Co., he was with that firm for 18 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Dewey Moore in 1966; a sister and two brothers, Beulah Jane Moore Peery Carltron in 1972; Paul Moore, 1983; Ward in 1964; his father, Nelson Moore in 1919; his mother, Ora Dell Graves Moore in 1961.
Mr. Moore was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian church.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 102nd Ordinance Co. and received a bronze star at Iwo Jima.
Surviving are a sister, Marjory Moore Humbert, St Joseph; a nephew, John Humbert, St Joseph; a great niece, two great nephews, and many cousins.
Services were held Monday morning at the Clark-Lindsey Funeral Home and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, St Joseph.

Elizabeth Ogden, 80, died unexpectedly at her home in Craig Monday, March 14,1988.
She was born in Graham, and lived most of her life in the Craig community.
Mrs. Ogden was a member of the First Christian Church of Craig.
Surviving are: a daughter Earlena Coin, Joplin; a son, Chester Wilfong, Neosho; a sister Judy Carmichael and two brothers: Ike Nowling and Floyd Nowling, all of Craig; 16 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 24 great great grand­children.
Services were held Friday at the Craig Christian Church. Burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Craig.

Osburn, Dale Dean -

Dale Osburn, a life-long Fairfax community resident, died while driving his tractor on Highway 46 about 6 miles east of Fairfax Wednesday afternoon. He had walked to his field where the tractor was parked while his wife waited for him. After getting to the tractor he drove it back to Highway 46 and started down the road with it. Mrs. Osburn was ahead of him in the car and when he failed to be following she returned and found the tractor driven into the ditch on the south side of the road. She went to the Bruce Pyeatt home for aid.
Dale Dean Osburn was born in Mound City July 3, 1920 and died near Fairfax Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 1985 at the age of 65 years, 1 month and 11 days.
He attended and graduated from Dateview High School in 1939, and has lived and farmed all his life in the Daleview area. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Presbyterian church and the American Legion.
On Sept. 6, 1940 he was married to Margaret Francis Ryan and they made their home on a farm near Fairfax. To this union were bom two sons, Stanley Carl and Kenneth Dale.
Dale was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and showed his support by attending ball games and track meets at many area schools. He enjoyed seeing young people compete and develop through athletic events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth Dale in June 1968; and a sister, Wilma Burke.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Dana Osburn and three grandchildren, Kenna Renne, Ryan Tift, Brooke Ellen Osburn all of Fairfax; a brother, James Osburn, Skidmore.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Aug. 17 at the Fairfax Presbyterian church with Rev. Roger Rowlett, high priest in RLDS church officiating, assisted by Rev. Blake Richter. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Thalia Beck, organist was in charge of music and she accompanied soloists, Mary Combs and James K. Hunter.
Pallbearers were Harry Combs, Paul O'Riley, Hale Craven, Gerald Hawkins, Ed Ball, Harvey Ireland, Vernon Trauernicht, Bob Irvine, Oral Davis, Jim Irvine, Wayne Hawkins, Paul Ward, Richard Davis and Richard Thiesfeld,

Parker, Doris Burke -

Doris Parker resident of Phoenix, AZ died at John Lincoln Hospital on Feb. 21, 1988 after a brief illness.
She was born in Atchison County and attended Liberty Rural School. She graduated from Rock Port high school in 1931. She operated a beauty shop in Craig, before going to Arizona. There she did bookkeeping work.
Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by her husband Forrest M. Parker in 1945 and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Hal Burke.
Survivors include three sisters Mrs. Mildred Thomson, Fairfax; Mrs. Hollis Blackman, Shenandoah, IA; Mrs. Charlene Meyerkorth, Langdon; and a brother George Burke, Rock Port. Also several nieces and nephews.
Eastern Star services were held following cremation  in Phoenix.

Services for LoisAnn Park Peck of Fairfax were held Saturday afternoon, April 4 at 1 o'clock at the Christian Church in Fairfax. Interment was in Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Pallbearers were Bill Metzgar, J. D. Bowman, Larry Walker, Paul Lahart, Todd Lemon, Steve Irvine. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Strough, H. Q. Gomel, Wayne Schooler, David Payton, Jim McConnell, E. L. Metzgar, Donald Bowman, Marvin Sumy, Jas. Alloway, Smiley Griffey.
LoisAnn Johnson Park Peck was born July 1, 1931 near Avalon, Mo. to Floyd Gordon Johnson and Pearl Magdeline Williams Johnson and died at the doctors office in Fairfax on March 31,1987 at the age of 55 years, 8 months and 30 days.
She attended local schools and graduated valedictorian from Avalon high school in 1948. She began her long teaching career at Stagner Rural School in Carroll county at the age of 16. She received a two year certificate from Mo. State Teachers College in 1948. She also taught in the Bedford, la. and Shubert Nebr. school systems.
LoisAnn began teaching the primary grades at Daleview school near Fairfax in the fall of 1950 and continued as teacher and a principal there until Daleview closed in 1960. While teaching at Daleview she met and married Wayman D. Park on Jan. 14,1951 and to this union two daughters were born, Patti Anne and Pearl Elaine.
She received a bachelor or science degree from Tarkio College with four majors in: education, commerce, history and English. She had both primary and secondary life teaching certificates. She also did graduate work at NEMSC, Kirksville; University of Wyoming, Laramie; University of Pennsylvania, Valley Forge, Pa. In 1961 she began teaching in the Bellevue school system near Mound City where she taught basic business, English and typing until the school closed in 1964. She taught briefly in Tarkio junior high. In the fall of 1964 she began a 19 year career in the Nodaway-Holt schools, teaching both high school and junior high. She originated the News Brain Bowl in Northwest Missouri and, continued actively with it until her death.
LoisAnn was a Missouri educator from 1948 to 1983 and was voted outstanding teacher by her students and faculty members in both 1982 and 1983. She retired from the teaching profession in 1983 after 35 years of service.
In addition to teaching she was a charter member of Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Women Educators International, past president and member of AAUW, past president and member of Nodaway-Holt     MSTA/CTA and Association of Business and Professional Women; a 1977 freedom's scholar at Valley Forge, Pa.;Wolverine 4-H club leader, receiving her 25 year leader's pin and numerous awards for service and leadership; served on the Atchison County Extension Council; member of the 49'ers Hobby Club; and the Fairfax Christian Church.
She and her husband, Wayman, owned and operated Park Leather Shop in Fairfax and Tarkio for over 10 years.
Preceeding her in death were her husband, Wayman D. Park; and her mother, Pearl Johnson.
On July 1,1984 she married Lewis Leroy Peck at the R-Bar Ranch, Burlington Junction. They made their home at the Dinner Belle Farm east of Fairfax.
Survivors include the husband, Lewis Peck of Unionville; her daughters, Patti Rasmussen, Oklahoma City, Ok; Elaine Vogler, Bethany; her father, Floyd Johnson, and step­mother, Alta of Avalon; a brother, Allen Gene Johnson, Hale; four grandchildren, Trisha Marie, Andrew Park, Timothy David Rasmussen, of Oklahoma City, Ok; and Tirzah Marie Vogler, Bethany.

Pierce, Deona L. "Dee" - Deona L. “Dee” Pierce, 76, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away October 31, 2016. Dee was born December 17, 1939 in Cleveland, TN. She was a graduate of North Kansas City High School. On March 25, 1957 she married R. Stephen “Steve” Pierce and together they raised their five children.

Dee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Steve; her daughter, Stephanie Rose Erdman. She is survived by her sons, Mike, Brian, Steve and wife Nicole and Matt Pierce; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sister, Sue Weltner and husband Ed, and 3 nephews. Steve and Dee’s lives revolved around their family, cherishing every moment they had with their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10-11am Saturday, November 5th at Minter Funeral Home, Rock Port, MO followed by graveside services at the Hunter Cemetery, Rock Port, MO. Pierson, Eldon Lush -

Eldon Lush Pierson was born Dec. 10,1914 in Locust Grove township, Fremont county, la. the son of Robert L. and Hattie Lush Pierson, and died at his home Monday night, Feb. 6, 1989 south of Shenandoah, la. at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 26 days.
He attended Locust Grove country school, graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1933 and graduated from Tarkio College in 1937. Following his education he was employed as an accountant for Sullivan Machinery Co. and later Omaha Steel Co.
Eldon was married to Loraine Schooler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bion B. Schooler of Fairfax on June 18,1938 in the Fairfax Methodist Church. To this union two sons, Bion L. and Dennis Eldon, were born. Following their marriage they lived in Michigan City, Ind.; Claremont, N.H.; and Omaha, Ne. before moving to the farm south of Shenandoah, la. in 1947.
Eldon's family and neighbors remember him for his innovative farming methods. He emphasized contour farming, grass water­ways, and farmover terraces. He designed and built an automatic silage feeding conveyor for his cattle feeding operations. He also designed a unique corn crib that featured a narrow V-shaped drag chute, exterior structural beams, and wide loading ports in the roof. Eldon built many fences with a contour lean, enourmous cornerposts, and strong wire and pipe bracing. "I don't mind building a fence once, but I hate to do it twice," he would say.

Eldon served as president of the school board for the Farragut schools; was Sunday school superintendent for several years at the Summit United Methodist Church; sang in the church choir; and served on the administrative board.
Eldon's hobbies were many and varied. These included photography, lapidary work and traveling. He enjoyed planting trees around his home, collecting rocks and minerals from many trips through the Western United States and especially around his winter home near Yuma, Az. He could be found hiking along county roads in Iowa and the desert west of Yuma.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Merrill and Kenneth Pierson; one sister, Marjorie Elliott
He is survived by his wife, Loraine of the home; two sons and their families, Bion and Marcia Pierson, Bryce and Lia of Ames, la.; Dennis Eldon Pierson, Santa Cruz, Cal. and a number of other relatives.
Services were held at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, near Shenandoah, la. Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, conducted by Dr. Carl Klein and Rev. Randall Dilts. Interment was in the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Shannon Wiley Preston, 104-year-old mother of Miriam Wiley Preston St. Clair of Tarkio, died in her home in Decatur, Ga., on Oct. 31. She and her husband, Dr. John Fairman Preston, served as Presbyterian missionaries to Korea from 1903 to 1946. Mrs. Preston visited her daughter and her son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth E. Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. St. Clair, Mrs. Shannon P. Cumming of Decatur, Ga., and Mrs. Florence P. Bockhorst of Kirk wood, Mo.; and sons, Dr. John F. Preston Jr. of Pebble Beach, Calif., William Wiley Preston of Oxford, Ms., and Dr. Rhea S. Preston of Prattville, Ala.
Among Mrs. Preston's 21 grandchild­ren are three living children of Dr. and Mrs. St. Clair's: Miriam Wiley of Palo Alto, Calif., Kenneth E. St. Clair Jr. of Overland Park, Kan., and Charles A. of Watertown, Mass. Their fourth child, Fairman Preston, preceded her in death in 1964.
Among Mrs. Preston's 21 great­grandchildren are Heather Lea and Michael A. St. Clair of Overland Park, Kan.
Six of Mrs. Preston's grandchildren acted as her pallbearers. One of them, Charles A. (Tarkio High School, '66), was also a pallbearer in the funeral of his 100-year-old grandfather in 1975. Her service was held on Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Decatur Presbyterian Church, where she had been a member for 37 years.

Reyes, Ruth, 90, fomerly of Fairfax, died Thursday, Dec 4, 1986 in Hayward, Calif. after having failing health for some time.

She was born and raised in the Fairfax area. She was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church and attended schools in the area. She had lived in Omaha, Nebr., and lived in Hayward for the past 45 years.

Surviving are her twin sister, Esther VanGundy, living in California; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday at the Pleasant Ridge Cemtery, Fairfax.

Richards, Phyllis M. Overlease -

Phyllis M. Richards of Rock Port, Mo., passed away at the Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, Mo., on Monday, Dec. 31, 1984, at the age of 61 years. Phyllis was born on Sept. 26, 1923, in Arrol, Mo., to James and Dine (Tabor) Overlease.
Phyllis received her early educa­tion in the Tarkio schools. Follow­ing her education, she was united in marriage to Arley Hughes. To this union four children were born.
On Nov. 24, 1962, Phyllis was united in marriage to Allen Rich­ards in Fairfax. They lived and farmed northeast of Rock Port. For 6V2 years Phyllis worked as a nurse's aide at Community Hospi­tal Association in Fairfax and then helped her husband with the farming operation.
Phyllis was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Shenandoah, Iowa. She was very active in her church and had served as her Sunday School class secretary for many years. She had also attended the Lone Cedar Club.

Phyllis had a special place in her heart for her family, she loved and cared for them very deeply. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Immediate survivors include: her husband, Allen Richards, of the home; one daughter, Mrs Joe Ed (Berniece) Straub, Tarkio; three sons, Jim Hughes, St. Joseph, Mo., Joe Hughes, Fairfax, and Tom Hughes, Tarkio; one brother, Clifford Burk, St. Joseph; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant brother and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 1985, at the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah. Officiating the services was Dr. J.E. Jackson. Interment was at the Grange Hall Cemetery north of Rock Port under the direction of Minter Funeral Chapel of Rock Port.

Riley, Carl Gene - Carl Gene Riley, the son of Howard and Gertrude (Hicks) Riley was born September 11, 1931, on the Logan Farm east of Tarkio, Missouri. He started school at Irish Grove, but an illness kept him from completing that year of school. In 1937, following his father’s death, they moved into town. In 1938, he attended school in Tarkio, graduating high school in 1950. During his senior year, Carl was the leading scorer in basketball and won the ping pong tournament.

After graduating, Carl drove a truck for UG Roberts and joined the National Guard. He was in the 35th division at St. Joseph, Missouri, and was a signalman in the Signal Company for nine years. Carl worked many jobs including local farm laborer, truck driver and Meek's produce. In 1960, he was employed at Tarkio Pelleting Corp., retiring in 2003, after 43 years.

On June 7, 1964, Carl was united in marriage to Carolyn Yvonne Lee. They became the parents of three children, Carla Jean, Marla Jolene, and Carl Eugene and was a loving grandpa to Nicholas Scott Schebaum and Jordan Robert Alexander Riley. On June 7, 2014, Carl and Carolyn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Carl loved football, basketball and baseball. He pitched softball on a local team until he was 56, and loved playing horseshoes, winning several trophies. Carl was an active member of the Tarkio Assembly of God Church. He served as a deacon, secretary and treasurer, Sunday school teacher and superintendent. Carl passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016, at his home in Tarkio, at the age of 85.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by sisters, Nadine Hunkins, Inace Freeman, Ann Phroper and her infant twin, Annas Riley, and Helen Henson; brothers, Willis Riley, Edmond Riley, and Charles “Bucky” Riley. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Yvonne (Lee) Riley, of the home; three children, Carla Jean Riley, Independence, Missouri, Marla Jolene (Riley) Swaby and husband, Michael, and Carl Eugene Riley, all of Tarkio; two grandsons, Nicholas Scott Schebaum, son of Carl Eugene, and Jordan Robert Alexander Riley, son of Marla (Riley) and Michael Swaby; one brother, Jimmie Riley and his wife, Lorraine, Republic, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 23, 2016, Assembly of God Church, Tarkio.
Interment: Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Russell, Amos William -

Services for Amos Russell of Fairfax was held last Saturday afternoon at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, with Rev. Frederick Lawson, in charge. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.
Pallbearers were Darrel Yocum, Junior Yocum, Ernest Burnam, Danny Kemerling, Bob Alldredge and David Graves. Mrs. Bob Sefrit was in charge of music.
Amos William Russell was born Sept. 7, 1898 at Cascade, la. the second son of Robert Russell and Marnesse Burnam and died at the Pleasant View Rest Home, Rock Port March 26, 1987 at the age of 88 years, 6 months, 19 days.
He lived on the farm 5 1/2 miles west of Fairfax for 70 years without moving. Amos graduated from the Waits grade school, and was a farmer most of his life. He and his sister, Nellie, moved from the farm several years ago to their home in Fairfax. Last Sunday, Amos moved to the Pleasant View Rest Home, Rock Port.
Mr. Russell was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert who died Sept. 8, 1954; and mother, on April 23, 1905; his sister, Nellie Russell, Dec. 12,1986.

Russell, Nellie Leota Burnam -

Nellie Leota Russell was born on the family farm near Fairfax June 18, 1900, and died in the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebr. on Dec. 12,1986 of an apparent heart attack.
She was the daughter of Robert Russell and Marnesse Burnam. She has lived her entire life in the community of her birth and was a homemaker for she and her brother, Amos W. Russell. They moved from the family farm to town several years ago.
She was a member of the Methodist Church.
One brother, Amos W. Russell of the home in Fairfax, survives.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Dec. 15, at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, conducted by the Rev. Frederick Lawson. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, near Fairfax.
Amy Sefrit was in charge of music and she accompanied Suzanne Southard, soloist. Pallbearers were Donald Poe, Richard Burke, John H. Oswald, Bill Van Gundy, Vernon Trauernicht and Tom Cundall.

Ryan, Alan Richard - Alan Richard Ryan, age 62, of St. Peters, MO., passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016 at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles, MO. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa on March 5, 1954; the son of George and Margaret Steck Ryan.

Alan attended St. Mary’s Special School sponsored by the Archdiocese of St. Louis Special Education Program and graduated in May 1971. He was employed by Boone Center Workshop in O’Fallon and St. Peters facilities for over 35 years.

After retiring, Alan volunteered weekly at the Lonning Center in St. Charles, MO. He also volunteered at other organizations throughout the years, including The Salvation Army, Old New Boys Day, Meals on Wheels as well as various churches throughout the community.

Alan became a resident of St. Peters House in 1979 under the Community Living Program established in St. Charles County. Not only did Alan live there, he also assisted with the weekly grocery shopping and running errands for the house.

Alan was an avid follower of all the St. Louis sports teams and the Missouri Tigers. He enjoyed bowling and visiting the Rec-Plex. He also enjoyed Sunny Hill Summer Camp each summer, along with his yearly family reunion in June and holidays in Kansas City with his brother and family.

Alan is survived by his loving brothers, William Ryan, Phil (Gail) Ryan. His loving niece Ashley (Dan) Maximuk and their children, Madison and Ryan Maximuk. His loving nephew George Ryan.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11:00 A.M at Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services, 2115 Parkway Dr., St. Peters, MO 63376.

Graveside services for Bob Sutherlin of Fairfax were held at the English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Donald Momberg.
Ovid Leighton (Bob) Sutherlin was born July 18, 1917 in Timberlake, S. Dak., and died at his farm home near Fairfax July 1, 1986.
He had resided in Pierce, Nebr. and Madison, Nebr., later moving to Omaha, Nebr. In 1954, he was married to Ethel Pope. Alter their marriage they moved to Fairfax in 1956. She preceded him in death in May of 1985.
He was a construction worker and a security guard at the MBPXL in Rock Port, retiring in 1982.
Surviving are his mother, Ida Pearl Sutherlin, Burwell, Nebr.; one sister, Margaret Malmsten, Burwell, Nebr.; one brother, Jack Sutherlin, address unknown; one stepdaughter, Florence Ritchey, Savannah; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ellis M. (Jack) Taylor, 79 of Corning died Thursday evening, Sept. 1, 1988 at a hospital in Omaha, Nebr.
He was a native of Fairfax, and was a retired Holt county farmer and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Corning.
He married the former Jessie K. Miller in 1934
Survivors include the wife of the home; two daughters and two sons, Betty Fuller, Corning; Emilie Lucas, St. Joseph; Virgil (Buster) Taylor, Craig; and Don Ray Taylor, Rock Port; a brother, Duane E. Taylor, St. Joseph; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

Taylor, Jessie K. -

Jessie K Taylor of Corning, died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 12, 1989 at her home in Corning at the age of 73. She was born in Fillmore, and lived in the Corning area for 48 years.
She married Ellis M. Taylor on Aug. 13, 1934 in Troy, Ks. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1988.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the St John's Lutheran Church, Corning.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Fuller of Corning; Emilie Lucas, St Joseph; two sons, Virgil Buster Taylor, Craig; Donald R. Taylor, Rock Port; one aunt; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the St John's Lutheran Church in Corning. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Thompson, Alice Lucile - Alice Lucile Thompson, the daughter of Heiko and Minnie (Gronewald) Cooper, was born July 26, 1922, in Rock Port, Missouri. She attended West Bend Country School, south of Rock Port to the eighth grade. She then lived at home and helped raise her siblings.

On October 12, 1945, Lucile was united in marriage to Donald Lee (Mick) Thompson in Atchison, Kansas. They became the parents of two daughters, Linda and Sherry and made their home and farmed in the Atchison County, Missouri, area. In 1959, they moved to Rock Port.

Lucile was employed by Rock Port School as a cook in the cafeteria for 33 years. In addition to working, Lucile was a true farmer’s wife, helping with the daily farm chores, as well as being a loving mother, raising and caring for her two daughters. Mick passed away in 1985. Lucile was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. Lucile passed away, Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 94.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucile was preceded in death by great-grandson, Cameron Owen; one infant brother, Henry Herbert; four sisters, Etta Cooper, Hermie Schmidt, Frieda Clemens and Rena Schmidt. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Wimmer (Jack) and Sherry Gubser (Marlin), all of Rock Port; five grandchildren, Kevin Hicks (Crissa), Lora Lea Owen (Randy), Patricia Limpert (Jonathan), Travis Gubser (Mindy), and Lucinda Hicks (Nick); great-grandchildren, Brynn, Austin, Connor, Piper, Shea, Mason and Elsie; one brother, Harry Lee; four sisters, Evelyn Carter, Betty Jane Johnson, Mary Ann Kerns, and Emma Jean Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Waits, Gertrude Story -

Gertrude Waits was born at Craig March 16,1903, the daughter of Madison and Louisa Bennett Story, and died at Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio, Nov. 26,1986.
She attended the Craig School.
In 1917 she was married to Cecil H. Waits in Oregon. They spent their married life in Fairfax. They were parents of three children: Harold, Shirley and Lois. Mr. Waits died in 1949.
In 1979 she moved from Fairfax to the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio. She was a member of the Fairfax Christian Church.

Survivors include the children: Harold Waits, Pomona, Calif.; Shirley McCoy, Rock Port, and Lois Cohen, Overland Park, Kans.; five grandchildren and seven great grand­children.
Graveside services were held Friday afternoon at the English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Wake, Everett Nelson - Everett Nelson Wake was born at Fairfax April 15, 1908 one of eight children of Henry and Leola Watkins Wake and died at the Community Hospital, Fairfax Aug, 29, 1988 at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 14 days.
He was raised in Fairfax and attended school in Fairfax.
On March 5, 1943 he was married to Louise Hunkins in Waukegan, IL After serving in the Navy during World War II, they came to Fairfax where they made their home. He was a contractor and builder. He drew up plans and helped build the present Fairfax Baptist church, just one of the many homes and buildings he constructed while he was in the profession. He retired from the carpentry profession and began to help his wife operate the Kountry Kitchen restaurant in Fairfax. They owned and operated the restaurant 16 years.
He was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax Masonic Lodge, No. 483, AF & AM, and the Moila Shrine, St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother; and two brothers and three sisters: Emery Wake, Drury Wake, Verna Maddox, Marie Stokesberry, Neva Wake.

Survivors are the wife, Louise of the home; and three sons: Rick Wake, San Clemente, Calif; Reed Wake, Columbia; and Rodney Wake, Fairfax; one brother and one sister, Riley Wake, Fairfax and Mrs. Hazel Proud of Topeka, Ks.; and four grandchildren, Tammy Slv. Kim Wake, Jason Wake and Tashia Wake.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon Sept 1 at the Faifax Baptist church conducted by Rev Donald Momberg. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Pallbearers were: Jim Watkins, Melvin Miles, Randall Sly, Mike Hunkins, Ed Hunkins and Sheldon Davis.
Mrs. Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied Jesse Johnson, who sang "In the Garden".

Everett N. Wake 79, Fairfax, passed away Aug. 29 at the Commu­nity Hospital in Fairfax, following a lengthy illness.
He was a native and lifelong resi­dent of Fairfax. Mr. Wake was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church. He was a self-employed buil­der and contractor, and had designed and helped to build the Fairfax B aptist Church.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 483 A.F.&A.M., and the Moila Temple Shrine of St. Joseph.
Mr. Wake married the former Louise Hunkins on March 5,1943, in Waukegan, 111. They owned and oper­ated the Country Kitchen Restaurant in Fairfax for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; two brothers: Emery and Drury, and three sisters, Vexna Mad-dox, Marie Stokesberry, and Neva Wake.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons: Rick, San Clemen-te, Cal., Reed, Columbia, and Rod­ney, Fairfax; a brother, Riley, Fairfax; a sister, Hazel Proud, Topeka, Ks.; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 1 at the Fairfax Baptist Church. Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Fairfax. Services were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home Fairfax.

Wallace, Joyce Helen Graham -

Joyce Helen Wallace, 55 of Maryville died at the hospital in Maryville, Dec. 13,  1986. She was born Jan. 14, 1931 in Fairfax, the daughter of Alba Lee Graham and Lillian Stoner Graham.
On July 21, 1955 she was married to Barney Wallace of Maryville and they made their home in Maryville the past 28 years. Before that the family lived in Skidmore.
Survivors include the husband of the home; a son and two daughters, Marvin Chubick, Gwendolyn Wallace, both of Maryville; and Jan Shimack, Graham. Four brothers and two sisters: Harold Graham, Franklin, Ohio; Cecil Graham, Kansas City; Jimmie Graham, Council Bluffs, la.; A F. Allen Graham, Rancho Cordabe, Calif; Beatrice Paris, Skidmore; and Martha Schmitz, Conception Jet and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 16 at the Price Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville with Rev. J. D. Root, officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.
Pallbearers were Tony Emery, Terry Emery, Gene Emery, Herb Emery, Gary Maxwell, Kenny Gaskill.
Organist was Edna Mary Asbell, and the music included: "Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art".

Whittington, Richard LeRoy -

Richard LeRoy Whittington was born Sept 21, 1924 at St Joseph, the son of Clifford LeRoy and Mable Bessie Reise Whittington, and died at Community Hospital, Fairfax, on May 3, 1987 at the age of 62 years, 7 months and 12 days.
The family moved to Fairfax in 1936 and he attended the Fairfax school, graduating from here, class of 1943. Shortly after his graduation he was inducted into the Army and served in Africa and Europe during World War II.
He married Geraldine LaVonne Moser on Jan. 11, 1947 at Troy, Kans. and except for brief periods at Olivia, Minn, and Sikeston, Mo., they lived in Fairfax since their marriage. To this union was born five sons: Stephen, John, Geor­ge, Michael, James and Paul.
Richard was an employee of S. J. Peterson since 1945 and in 1983 he became self employed still in the same profession he had worked with drag lines. He was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church, Fairfax Masonic Lodge, St Joseph Scottish Rite Bodies and Tarkio American Legion Post No. 199.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack, in 1943.
Survivors include the wife, Jerry, of the home in Fairfax; five sons, Steve Whittington, Maryville; John Whittington, Paul Whittington, Tarkio; George Whittington, Jim Whittington, Fairfax; one brother, Clifford "Bud" Whittington, Rock Port; and 11 grandchildren.
Services were held May 7 at the Methodist Church in Fairfax, conducted by Rev. Fred Lawson. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax. Mrs. Roger Southard was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs Gary Wennihan, soloist.

Pallbearers were Gene Bradfleld, Ben Umbarger, Bruce Graves, Maurice Graves, Freeman Liles, H. A. Sly. Honorary pallbearers were Wally Kent, Gary Green, Wayne Freeman, Ed Ball, Dean Bolton, Dick Kemerling, Alan Bradfleld, Dale Kemerling, Beuford Stoner, David Portis.

Whittington, Richard LeRoy -

Richard LeRoy Whittington was born Sept. 21, 1924, to Clifford LeRoy and Mable Bessie (Reise) Whittington in St. Joseph, Mo. He passed away at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Mo., on Sunday, May 3, 1987, at the age of 62.
After graduating from Fairfax High School, Richard became a heavy equipment operator. He had been a self-employed dragline operator since 1983. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
On Jan. 11, 1947, Richard was united in marriage to Geraldine LaVonne Moser. He was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church, Fairfax Masonic Lodge No. 483 A.F. and A.M., the St. Joseph Scottish Rite Bodies and the Tarkio American Legion Post No. 199.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in 1943. His survivors include: his wife, Gerry, of the home in Fairfax; five sons, Steve, Maryville, John and Paul, both from Tarkio, and George and Jim, both from Fairfax; one brother, Clifford "Bud", Rock Port, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held   Thursday, May 7, 1987, at the Fairfax United Methodist Church   at 10 a.m.  Rev.  J.  Frederick  Lawson will officiate. Bryan Jennings Williams, 90, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1987 in the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, la.
The son of William Harvey and Emma Lee Bogard Williams, he was born Oct. 23, 1896 at Fairfax. He attended school at Fairfax and business college in Quincy, Ill.
On Dec. 20, 1920, he was married in St. Joseph to Elizabeth Louise Graves. She died Jan. 15, 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three daughters, Theresa Kathleen, Betty White and Janice Elain; a grandson, Robert Frank; two sisters and four brothers.
Mr. Williams, a lifelong farmer, was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the English Grove Presbyterian Church, Fairfax.
Surviving is a daughter, Dorothy Ann Frank, Villisca, la.; two sons, Edward Williams and Norman Williams, both of Atlantic, Ia.; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law.
Services were conducted Jan. 22 in the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, la. The Rev. Steven Wainwright officiated. Burial was in the English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.

Wilson, LaMont -

William LaMont Wilson was born May 3, 1906 at Elmo, the son of Nathan Pike and Rose Ann Cowan Wilson, and died at Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio, Aug. 20, 1986 at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 17 days.

He married Edith Barnard Feb. 18,1931 and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year.
He was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church.
He lived in the Maryville area in later years and before that he moved to Fairfax as a young man and was raised and educated in the Elmo area. They also lived in Fairfax and Corning areas until 1948. Just several years ago he and his wife moved to the Bethesda Care Center to make their home.
Survivors include his wife, Edith of the Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio; one son, William.(Bud) Wilson, Fairfax; and a daughter, Mrs. Florence Meyer, St. Joseph; one brother and one sister: LeRoy Wilson, Marshal, and Mrs. Stella VanFosson, Maryville; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax Saturday afternoon, Aug. 23, with Rev. Blake Richter in charge. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.
Pallbearers were Randy Antrim, Mark Lloyd, Adam Dowell, Francis Irvine, Norman Simmons, Ted Simmons.
Mrs. Gary Cooper was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs. Adah Pyeatt, who sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross".
Family suggests memorials to the Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio.

Windhorst, Edward Fredrick - Edward Fredrick Windhorst was born on Aug. 14, 1901 on a farm near Clarinda, la. His parents were Maude Holmes and August Fredrick Windhorst Edward, or Eddie as his friends call him, was the oldest of seven children. He died Wednesday, Oct 28, 1986 at his home near Fairfax at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 14 days.
The family moved to Tripp, So. Dak. in 1907. Eddie moved to Corning from Tripp, So. Dak. with his parents, brothers and sisters in the winter of 1917. They moved to the farm southwest of Fairfax in 1920 and he lived there until his death.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the St John's Lutheran Church at Corning, Mo.
Eddie married Letha Pearl Hickman on March 7, 1942. They spent all of their married life on the old home place and they celebrated 39 years together. They were parents of three children, Wilma Jean, Emmett Edward and Edna Louise.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold who died in early childhood, and Martin Henry Windhorst who died Oct 25,1986; his wife, Pearl; and parents.
Survivors include the children, Wilma Jean Windhorst, Tarkio; Emmett Edward Windhorst, Fairfax; Edna Louise Perry, Rock Port; two brothers and two sisters, Harry Herbert Windhorst, Willie Ernest Windhorst, both of Fairfax; Kathryn Louise Flanagan, St. Joseph; Edna Alvina Jackson, Vallejo, Calif; and three grandchildren, Shelley Renea Freeman McMahon, Rock Port; William Christopher Freeman and Jason Duane Perry.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Oct 31 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corning, with Pastor Donald Jenkins in charge. Interment was in High Creek Cemetery, near Watson.
Wilma Randall at the organ, accompanied Betty Wennihan, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden". Pallbearers were Harold Krutz, Dale Kemerling, Dale Swinehart, Darrell Geib, Howard Geib and Kenneth Rader.
