Laverne Richard (Coke) Archer 77, of Fairfax, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Coke was born in Maitland, Missouri, on June 11, 1934, to Earl Richard and Minnie Ruth (Adams) Archer. He had been a resident of the Mound City and Fairfax areas most all his life.
Coke had been employed by several farmers over the years and had also worked for Abie Showalter Farms and Auctioneering of Craig, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leon; another brother at birth; and a grandchild.
Survivors include his children, Diana Gorges, Joplin, Missouri, Tina Smith, Englewood, Florida, Christina Hatfoeld, Pittsburg, Kansas, Lisa Edwards, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Delby Archer, Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters, Lavon Smail, Maryville, Missouri, Elva (Polly) Hosfiel, Maryville, Missouri, Ruth Kooken, Mesa, Arizona, Mary Dow, Mesa Arizona; 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva Mae Baker was born Dec. 28, 1912 at Rock Port, the daughter of George Henry Fahseler and Nellie Hoover Fahseler and died at the Community Hospital, Fairfax Dec. 19, 1987 at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 21 days.
She lived in the Rock Port community and graduated from Rock Port High School. She was a member of the Rock Port Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 6, 1962 she was married to Hugh Baker at Maryville, and they made their home on a farm near Fairfax until 1969when they moved to town. In 1986 they moved to the Pleasant View Rest Home, Rock Port.
While living in Fairfax area Eva worked at the Don Kerr grocery store for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Ann Fahseler, age 3; and two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are the husband of Rock Port; six sisters, Blanche Oldham, Shenandoah, la; Gertrude Johnson, Tarkio; Glenda Baker, Fairfax; Virginia Edwards, Mary Saund­ers, both of Leavenworth, Ks; and Vera Bright, Douglas. Wyo; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday morning at the Minter Funeral Home in Rock Port, conducted by the Rev. Paul Hansen. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Riverton, la.
Pallbearers were Charles L. Myers, Francis Brandt, Larry Poppa, Stanley Poppa, Jesse Johnson and Willie Windhorst.

Ethel Peck Bargman was born April 16, 1889 in Westboro, Mo., the daughter of Oscar S. and Emma Peck Uttvits. She died Jan. 13, 1987 at Community Hospital in Fairfax, Mo. at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 17 days.
In her early years she attended the Westboro Schools and later a business college in Davenport, la.
On Jan. 5, 1911, she was united in marriage to G. Fred Bargman in Westboro. They made their home in Illinois, where they farmed, then returned to the Westboro area in 1913. They farmed her family's home place until 1943 when they moved to Westboro. Mr. Bargman died in 1964. During 1965, Ethel moved to Fairfax where she resided until January of 1986, when she became a resident of the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.
She was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church and had served as president of the Women's society of Christian Service along with other offices on the district and local levels. She had received the honor of being named "Woman of the Year" for Farm Bureau and had also served as Republican Committeewoman.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ruth Alter of Omaha, Nebr.; two sons, Robert U. Bargman, Westboro, and Glenn F. Bargman, St. Louis; one sister, Mrs. Laura Johnson, Rock Port; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were held at the Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Kyle Hern. Interment was in Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro.
Pallbearers were: Dean Hall, Keith Flack, Carroll Green, Tom Dunham, George Laur, Gerald Marquart.

Bean, Robert Gaye Jackson - Roberta Gaye (Jackson) Bean, the daughter of John Marshall and Gertrude Adeline (Falconer) Jackson, was born June 18, 1957, in Craig, Missouri. She attended Craig High School, graduating in 1975.

Roberta worked as a receptionist for a carpet company and was currently working as a cashier at McDonald’s in Rock Port, Missouri. She was always outgoing and joyful, a “people person” who enjoyed life to the fullest.

Roberta was a member of the First Christian Church, Rock Port. On May 1, 2011, she received Jesus as her LORD and Savior and was baptized by Rev. Rodney Hopper. Roberta passed away Monday, August 15, 2016, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 59.

Besides her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by two great-nieces, Kyleigh Parrish and Sarah Agnew and great-nephew, Allen Scott Agnew. Survivors include siblings, J.M. Comstock, Raymond L. - Raymond L. Comstock, the son of Leonard and Lucile (McMillan) Comstock, was born June 6, 1952, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1970.

On August 5, 1972, Raymond was united in marriage to Rita Martin at the Westboro United Methodist Church, Westboro, Missouri. They made their home in Rock Port, Missouri, and Tarkio and became the parents of two sons, Rob and Rich.

For over 20 years, Raymond worked as an auto body mechanic for Clark Ford and Pfeils Auto Body in Rock Port. Raymond was then employed for 20 years by Pella Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa, retiring in 2014.

Raymond was an American patriot who loved his country. He was thankful for the freedoms we enjoy and for the men who fought for that freedom. Raymond loved nature, hunting, fishing, and watching the birds. He was a John Wayne fan and often watched westerns and movies of the old cowboys. He especially enjoyed cowboy poetry. Raymond was an avid blue grass and country music fan, going to a number of blue grass festivals. He was a member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church and was a former member of the National Rifle Association. However, Raymond’s greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Raymond passed away Monday, August 29, 2016, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 64.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and four-legged friend, Duke. Survivors include wife, Rita Comstock, Tarkio; sons, Rob Comstock and wife, Nicky, Clearmont, Missouri, and Rich Comstock and wife, Melissa, Tarkio; six grandchildren, Kalandra, Kate, Robert, Eva, Xavier and Rylynn; one sister, Julia Pavel and husband, Gary, Montrose, Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews; and four-legged friend, Rusty.

Jimmy Don Dixon, 45, died July 28, 2008, at the University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia, Missouri. Jim was born at Fairfax Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri, on July 19, 1963. He was the son of Donald L. and Judith (Thompson) Dixon.
Jim attended Fairfax High School and graduated with the class of 1981. He worked for Eaton Corporation for a number of years, as a CNC operator in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman who was always in pursuit of the biggest whitetail trophy buck, a 30-pound gobbler, or a Missouri record catfish.

Mary Leora Dixon, age 90, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2005, after a brief illness. Mary was born on a farm near Tarkio, Missouri, on September 23,1914, to John and Luella Chancey. She was one of 11 children, and was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.
Mary was married April 16, 1938, to Harry D. Dixon. She is survived by her husband; son, Harry Jr. and his wife, Joyce; grandson, Harry Dale III and wife, Mary; great-granchildren, Emily and Paul; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a supervisor packaging "C" Rations during World War II. After the war, she worked for a large grocery chain as a key puncher. She was proud of her 15 years as a volunteer in the surgical lounge at an Omaha, Nebraska, hospital. For the past 45 years, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed her many friends, playing bridge, women's club and women's circle at church.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the East Mesa Christian Church, 706 South Greenfield Road, Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church. Burial will follow in Fairfax.

Milfred Bascomb Easlel age 84, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, October 14,2004. He was born August 3,1920 in Fairfax to John Arthui and Mary Lucinda (Fite) Easley.
Milfred attended Irish Grove School for a time. In 1934 he and his family moved to Arita, Missouri, where they lived at his mother's family homestead farm. He was very proud of working at a Civil Conservation Corps Camp from 1936-1940. Milfred later enlisted in the military where he was in the occupation forces in Japan from 1946-1948. He spent the rest of his life in the St. Louis area. Milfred was a deacon in the Baptist Church for nearly 40 years.
Milfred was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, James Hadley, Vernon Ray Easley and four in infancy; three sisters, Nora Easley, Fern Long and Coral Lea Langston. He is survived by his wife, Blanche; two sisters, Vernieca Colbert of Willow Springs, Missouri, and Mary Durham of Bakersfield, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews. Final resting place is in Jefferson Barracks Veterans Cemetery, St. Louis. Fall, James "Jim" Randolph, Jr - James “Jim” Randolph Fall, Jr. — father, husband, grandfather, friend, newspaperman, sports fan, fisherman, golfer — the former mayor of Maryville who served as the executive editor of the Maryville Daily Forum and who was a lifelong advocate for community journalism, died Tuesday at Mosaic Hospital in St. Joseph. He was 79.

The cause of death was a severe stroke. Jim was attended at the time of death by his children, Tim Fall of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Susie Fagan of Prairie Village, Kansas; Sarah Tempel of Ft. Worth, Texas; and by Lynn Felton of Maryville.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Janis Elaine Melvin Fall.

Besides his children, Jim is survived by seven beloved grandchildren: Jackson, Alice, and Margaret Fall of Oklahoma City; Conrad and Riley Jane Fagan of Prairie Village; and Peyton and Kate Tempel of Fort Worth. His sons-in-law Robert Fagan of Prairie Village and Forrest “Frosty” Tempel of Ft. Worth, were nothing less than sons to him as well.

Born December 4, 1936 in Memphis, Tennessee to Dr. James R. and Mildred Elizabeth Frazier Fall, Jim attended Presbyterian Day School in Memphis, and Castle Heights Military Academy, Lebanon, Tennessee, where he was editor of their national award-winning high school newspaper, The Cavalier.

In high school Jim developed a love for veterinary medicine, but it was the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism that offered him a place in 1955. At Mizzou Jim joined the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and served as president in his senior year.

Married in Rock Port in 1959, Jim and Jan moved to Carbondale, Illinois where Jim reported for The Southern Illinoisan. After being drafted, he was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, during the final months of the Korean Conflict and extending into the early years of the American military presence in Vietnam, working as a journalist in the Army’s Special Warfare Center.

Upon being discharged, Jim and Jan returned to northwest Missouri where Jim managed a Texaco service station in Fairfax. In 1966 Jim became managing editor of the West Memphis Evening Times. Jim frequently recalled how he reported on the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the ensuing Memphis riots.

From 1972-1975 Jim worked as executive director of the International Association of Holiday Inns.

In 1975 Jim and Jan purchased the Albany (Missouri) Ledger, which was awarded three General Excellence awards by the Missouri Press Association between 1975 and 1982, with Jim as publisher, editor, reporter, photographer and layout artist. During that time the Falls also published The Stanberry Headlight.

The Falls sold the Ledger and Jim assumed the editorship of the El Dorado (Arkansas) News Times in 1982. Jim was promoted to general manager of the newspaper, serving until 1988.

In 1989 Jim returned once again to Missouri, this time as publisher of The Daily Forum and later as co-founder of the Maryville Free Press, where from 1992-1995 he was the first to write stories about a conceptual new municipal project that envisioned a golf course and recreational area that later would be named Mozingo Lake Recreation Park.

Relocating to Helena, Montana, Jim became the executive director of the Montana Newspaper Association, where he served from 1995 until his retirement in 2004.

Following Jan’s unexpected death in 2006, Jim decided to return “once and for all” to his beloved Maryville. He taught editing in the journalism department at Northwest Missouri State University in 2007 and returned to writing for the Forum as a columnist from 2008-2012.

Jim was elected to the Maryville city council in 2011, and in 2013 he was selected from among the council to serve as mayor.

He retired from municipal service in 2014, joining the management of the newly-relaunched Daily Forum as executive editor. Jim thrived on rebuilding the newspaper and on the professional and personal relationships that grew out of his service as a journalist.

Jim received numerous accolades for professional and community service, including serving as president of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, of the Northwest Missouri Press Association, and of Newspaper Association Managers, Inc.

Jim was a Rotarian, serving as club president on multiple occasions and being recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. In Maryville, he was also active in the Men’s Forum.

Jim was a life-long Episcopalian.

Jim’s life was filled not necessarily with religion but always goodness; not necessarily with correctness but always truth; and he stood not necessarily with popular choices but always on the side of right.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Maryville, 102 N. Main St. Following the service, family will receive friends at a reception to be held at the Mozingo Golf Course club house, 25055 Liberty Rd., Maryville.

Services were conducted by Rev. Robert Ceperley and interment was held in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Services were under the direction of Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City, Missouri.
Pansy B. (Louden) Fleener was born June 23, 1906, in Holt County, near Craig, Missouri. She was one of seven children of Taylor J. and Cora Belle (Brock) Louden. Pansy graduated from New Point High School in 1924.
Pansy married her high school sweetheart, Kelso D. Fleener, on February 3,1926, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. They became parents of one daughter. They operated a filling station and restaurant in Oregon, Missouri.
Kelso passed away in 1987. Pansy entered the Northview Manor Care Center in Tarkio, Missouri, in 2004, and passed away at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax, Missouri, on Tuesday morning, November 1, 2005, at the age of 99.
Pansy was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett, Brock and Jack Louden; sisters, Hazel Carl, Fern Feil and Ruth Jones; and son-in-law, Keith "Coop" Foster.
Survivors include Pansy's daughter, Patsy L. Foster, Mound City; granddaughter, Rebecca J. Heits and her husband, Todd, Tarkio; great-grandson, Kyle Heits, also of Tarkio; and nieces and nephews, Shirley Coffey, Dianne Louden, Jim Louden, Mike Jones, Jeff Jones and Barbara Dyer.
Pansy was a member of the former New Point Presbyterian Church. She played basketball in high school, and enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, fishing, and dancing. She was always politically informed and active. Memorials may be directed to Community Hospital Association, Fairfax, Missouri.

Donna E. Fletcher, age 61, passed away on Monday, October 4, 2004. She was born on March 11, 1943, at Hamburg, Iowa, the daughter of Ethel Pauline (Case) and Harold Galen Bridgford. She attended school in Hamburg.
Donna and her husband of 25 years, Eugene Thomas Fletcher, owned and operated Fletcher Motors in Tarkio, where she was the office manager for the business. Gene preceded Donna in death in 1999.
Donna was an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and was an excellent cook and pie baker. She loved to paint oil paintings and make ceramics.

A graveside service and burial was held for Hattie Eunice Fletcher of Tarkio, formerly of Fairfax, Missouri, on Saturday, December 15,2007, at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery southeast of Fairfax. Reverend Mike Eighmy officiated. Services were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home of Fairfax.
Eunice was born near Stockton, Missouri, on January 1, 1920. She was the daughter of Earl M. and Zula (Wiley) Powell. While still a small child, she moved to the Fairfax area with her parents. Eunice attended school at Fairfax and, on July 19, 1936, she became the wife of Zenith "Pete" Fletcher. They were the parents of two children, Patricia and Carolyn.
The Fletcher family lived in the Fairfax area, and they had also lived in the Kansas City, Missouri, and Shawnee Mission, Kansas, areas. Eunice was a homemaker and had also worked in the Tarkio nursing home as a nurses' aide. She passed away at this same nursing home, Northview Manor, on Friday, December 12, 2007.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete; and by two brothers, Norman and Willard Powell. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Edwards of Topeka, Kansas, and Carolyn Warmington and husband, Denny, of Independence, Missouri; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June Mather and Oke Walden, both of Tarkio.

Folster, Henning - Henning Folster of Fairfax was born Dec 28, 1897 at Lodge Pole, Ne, and died at Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio on Nov 27, 1988 at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 29 days.

He was born and raised in Western Nebraska and attended school in the Lodge Pole area. His parents were Christian and Louise Peters Folster.

On Feb 3, 1927 he was married to Opal Hedrick. They were parents of one son, Harold Lester who died in 1928.

They moved to Merced, Calif. in 1936 where he owned and operated a garage. He was a retired mechanic. In 1962 they moved to Fairfax where they made their home until a few weeks ago when he went to Bethesda Care Center to make his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, wife, Opal in 1981; five sisters and one brother.

Nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Schooler Funeral Home, conducted by Rev Donald Momberg. Burial was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Mrs Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied vocalist, Janice Pierce.

Twyla L. Gibson, age 86, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2005, at her home in Maysville. She was born December 11, 1918, in Fairfax, to Clyde and Ora (VanGundy) Williams and attended schools in Fairfax. A homemaker, she had been a resident of Maysville since 1951. On August 21, 1935, at Red Oak, Iowa, she married A. John Gibson and he preceded her in death on August 14, 1994.
In addition to her parents; she is preceded in death by her son, Ronald Gibson; and a great-great-grandson, Dakota Gilreath. She is survived by three sons, Bill of the home, Kenneth and his wife, Ruth, of Gallatin, and Gary Gibson, Maysville; daughter-in-law, Betty Gibson, Cameron, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Rick and Nancy Gibson, Randy and Annette Gibson, Robin Pullen, Rusty and Trisha Gibson, Rochelle and John Myers. Rodney and Amanda Gibson and Renee and Joe Cook; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchil­dren. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Gorman, Marjorie E. Harman - Marjorie was born on August 24, 1916 in Kansas City, Missouri and was an only child. She was a musical child and played the violin when she was younger. She met the love of her life, Bernard Wells Gorman Sr., and the two were married on June 3, 1937. They had four children together and raised them in Tarkio, Missouri. During her early marriage to Bernard, Marjorie worked in an upscale home furnishing store in Kansas City. Later she went to work at Tarkio College in the registrar office. Marjorie took many college art courses to enhance her already inherent artistic ability. She was a phenomenal oil painter and created many beautiful works of art. She kindly used her painting skills at Tarkio Presbyterian Church where she painted the large 3D characters for the nativity sets. Even when she was not physically painting, she had a way of painting images with her words.

Her daughter, Becky, remembers her talking about whether she was free to do something on a Friday or Saturday and Marjorie’s response gave a vivid image of her life being a blank and open book, even though the edges were a little ruffled but the pages were all there. Her family and friends clearly remember how she was always colorful and artistic with her speech.

While living in Missouri, she and Bernard were members of a bridge club and specifically played Duplicate Bridge. When Bernard was not working, they were able to take some trips. Their favorite trips include Ireland, where they did genealogy tracking, and Hawaii. The kids say their mom always ensured that their vacations were “educational trips.”

Marjorie had an amazing sense of humor and wit. She once rigged a firecracker to explode on the opposite side of the doorknob when her son, Bill, came home late one night. It may have been a trick that she learned from Bill, but nevertheless, it was always fun to see her sense of humor come out. With all her kids, she was very fun to tease because she could hold her own and spar back and forth with their jokes. Even in her last days, she had the nurses at the hospital laughing.

Marjorie was sharp and creative. Eventually, she worked side by side with Bernard at his law firm. Pat and Harold remember playing Scrabble with her and how sharp her mind stayed even into being 99 years old. Although rumored to have not been an excellent cook, Marjorie had a famous apple pie that people loved. Her dream job was to become an interior decorator and she would have been very successful in that field. Marjorie will be missed by all who knew her.

In 2009, she and Bernard moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. Bernard passed away that year at 104 years old. Marjorie continued to live on her own at an assisted living until a few days before her passing. She passed away peacefully at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, with her family by her side on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Elva Agnes (nee Quisenbery) and William Henry “Harry” Harmon; her husband, Bernard Wells Gorman Sr.; her infant son, Michael Gorman; and her step-daughter, Mary Jean Gorman. She will be dearly missed by her children, William “Bill” (Lynn Baskfield) Gorman of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Patricia “Pat” (Harold) Sandusky of Fulton, Maryland, and Rebecca “Becky” Gorman of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her stepson, Bernard “Wells” Gorman; her grandchildren, Tracy Gorman, Dylan Gorman, Heather (Josh) Ostalkiewicz, Tim (Amanda) Sandusky, and Valeria Sandusky; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Sandusky, Maliya Gorman-Carter, Jovan Gorman-Carter, Elian Gorman-Carter; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio, Missouri, for Reverend Cleo Miles Graham of Tarkio. Reverend Jesse Brown officiated. Interment was made in the Home Cemetery in Tarkio under the direction of Davis Funeral Home of Tarkio.
Rev. Cleo Miles Graham was born April 17, 1915, in Graham, Missouri, the son of Joseph Andrew and Annie Catherine (Hughes) Graham. He passed away at his home in Tarkio on June 26, 2004, at the age of 89 years.
Through his early years Cleo attended Tarkio rural schools and Tarkio Elementary School. At an early age he began farming and also worked for the local C.C.C. Camp.
Cleo was married October 20, 1936, in Tarkio to Pearl May Hamilton. They made their home in southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri where Cleo worked as a farmer and mechanic. In December of 1947, they moved to rural Tarkio. Through the years they farmed on the Luckhardt farms and the Preston Cunningham farm. In 1954, he began his lifelong devotion to Jesus Christ, becoming a Pentecostal minister and evangelist. Through the years, he and his family served many churches in the area of northwest Missouri and southwest Iowa. Preaching the gospel, loving his family, praying and singing became the center of his life.
Cleo's family's memories include his ability to solve any family problem that would arise, and doing anything in his power for his family. He was just "Dad". Cleo was a member of the Tarkio Assembly of God Church and had pastored the Tarkio Church of God for many years.
Cleo is survived by four sons, Robert Leroy Graham and wife, Fern, of Shenandoah, Iowa, Cleo Junior Graham and wife, Helen, of Tarkio, Richard Dale Graham and wife, Ruth, of Savannah, Missouri, and Jerry Lester Graham of Wymore, Nebraska; three daughters, Pat Riley and husband, Bill, of Tarkio, Beverley Walker and husband, Larry, of Fairfax, Missouri, and Mary Jo Vance of Tarkio; 34 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Essie Mutchler, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Besides his parents, Cleo was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl May, on March 30, 1993; one sister, Inace Graham; seven brothers, Carl, Bill, Lee, Fred, Don, John and an infant brother; and twin granddaughters.
Memorials may be directed to the Reverend Cleo Graham Memorial Fund for the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District.

Jeffrey L. Gray was born January 3, 1966, in Maryville, Missouri. Jeff passed away Friday, September 7, 2012, at his home in Rock Port, Missouri, at the age of 46.
He attended West Nodaway High School, Burlington Junction, Missouri, graduating in 1984. He also attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.
On September 22, 2000, Jeff was united in marriage to Holly Chambers at the Westboro United Methodist Church, Westboro, Missouri. To this union, two children were born, Wyatt James and Cheyenne Leigh. They were later divorced.
Jeff was self-employed in the construction business, serving the entire Atchison County area. For a few years, he was employed by Davis Concrete, Rock Port. Recently, Jeff was in a partnership with James Smith in construction.
Jeff was an excellent, loving father whose first concern was spending time with and taking care of his children. He was an extremely hard worker, a man of his word and a generous friend.
Jeffs grandparents preceded him in death. Survivors include: son, Wyatt James Gray and daughter, Cheyenne Leigh Gray, both of Tarkio, Missouri; mother, Mary Beth Gray, Burlington Junction; sisters, Jodi Davison and husband, Dewayne, Rosendale, Missouri, and Jolyn Jackson and husband, Andy, Hopkins, Missouri; brother, Jarrett Gray and wife, Jennifer, Burlington Junction; uncle, Doyle Gray and wife, Sheila, Burlington Junction; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

William C. Griffith, Jr., 81, died Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at a Mound City healthcare center. Born August 31,1923, near Maitland, he attended Bellevue High School where he graduated in 1942. He was a lifelong resident of Holt County, Missouri, where he farmed.
Mr. Griffith served in the United States Army during World War II. On March 31, 1946, he married Priscilla Ann Loucks. She survives of the home.
Junior was a member of the North Bethel Church at an early age, then transferred his membership to Shiloh Methodist Church with his son. He was a member of the Mound City Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M.; Past Nobel of Odd Fellows Lodge; Past Patron of Eastern Star; Past Commander of V. F. W. Post #8406, American Legion; and Falls City Elks Club. Mr. Griffith also served on the Mound City School Board for twelve years. He enjoyed life to the fullest and never knew a stranger.
Junior was preceded in death by his son, Jay Lynn Griffith on January 2, 2005; parents, William C, Sr., and Blanche (Rowlett) Griffith; brothers, Leroy and Elvis Griffith; and brother-in-law, Jack Loucks.

Marjorie Elizabeth Hawkins, the daughter of J.C. W. and Zelda M. (McKinney) Hawkins, was born September 18, 1916, in Tarkio, Missouri. She passed away March 1, 2005, at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years. Marjorie attended Wolfe Rural School in Fairfax, Missouri, graduating from Fairfax High School. Marjorie then attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1949.
Marjorie's life was dedicated to teaching and her family. She taught at many rural Missouri schools including Tarkio, and Corning Consolidated Schools in Corning; Grant City Elementary in Grant City, Missouri, Mound City Elementary in Mound City, Missouri, Humboldt Elementary, Kansas City, Missouri, and Scarritt Elementary in Kansas City, Missouri.
Survivors include Marjorie's two sisters, M. Gwen Dake and Lois M. Herr; two nieces and four nephews; four great-nieces and nine great-nephews; and two great-great-nephews.
Besides her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother, J.W. Hawkins. Memorials may be directed to Gregory Blvd. Church of Christ, Raytown, Missouri.

Mrs. Faye Held died Dec. 20, 1986 at her home in Waterloo, la. She was born Oct. 3, 1913 at Nemo, Mo., the daughter of J.H. and Bertha Fisher.
Faye was raised in the Fairfax community and graduated from Nishnabotna High School.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Nicholsen, Cedar Falls, la., and three grandchildren; four sisters: Gladys LaHue, Dorothy Seavey and Ruth Noftsger, Oregon, and Hazel Sever, Homosassa, Fla.; two brothers: J.H. (Buck) Fisher, Janesville, la., and Jim Fisher, Fairfax.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23 at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church and burial was in Compton Cemetery, Lamont, la.

Hughes, Joseph C. - Joseph C. Hughes, the son Arley and Phyllis (Overlease) Hughes was born August 30, 1940, in Hamburg, Iowa. Joe graduated from Tarkio High School in 1958. Following high school, Joe was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

In 1963, Joe was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. Receiving his honorable discharge in 1965, Joe returned to employment with Burlington Northern, retiring in 2003, after 45 years.

On August 30, 1966, Joe was united in marriage to Sharon Welch in Rock Port. They became the parents of three children, Clint, Lori and Lisa and made their home in Fairfax, Missouri.

Joe was a member of the Allen-Schiffern American Legion #199 of Tarkio. Joe passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Tarkio Rehabilitation and Healthcare, at the age of 75.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by step-father, Allen Richards and brother, Jim Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Hughes, Fairfax; son, Clint (Stacy) Hughes, Rock Port, daughters, Lori (Angelo) Erickson, Lisa (Chris) Yates, all of Tarkio; five grandchildren, Jase, Allison, Kyler, Alex, Aiden; brother, Tom W. Hughes, also of Tarkio.

Graveside services for Warren Kirby, Sr., age 82, formerly of the Blockton, Tarkio and St. Joseph, Missouri areas, were held Monday, April 26, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at the Memory Cemetery in New Market with Pastor William Ballard officiating. Warren passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Warren Gerald Kirby, Sr., was born January 25, 1922, in Greeley, Colorado, the son of Earl Kirby and Millie Reynolds Kirby. Warren grew up in Taylor County living on farms in the Gravity-Blockton areas. He graduated from Blockton High School in 1942. After graduation, Warren entered the United States Army serving in the India, Burma, China Theater on railroad construction during World War II. He worked for the CB & Q Railroad after his discharge from the armed forces, working in Burlington, Iowa, as a project engineer building railroad bridges.
On June 14,1948, Warren was united in marriage to Doris Lee Daily in Fairfax, Missouri. The couple farmed in the Fairfax and Tarkio areas and in 1977, Warren and Doris divorced. Warren then moved to the St. Joseph area where he resided until his health required him to move to Columbia to be near his daughter.
Warren was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the American Hackney Pony Association. He enjoyed raising horses and spending time in his fruit orchard and tending his garden where he specialized in raising strawberries and tomatoes.
Left to cherish Warren's memory are his son, Warren G.Kirby, Jr., of Tarkio, Missouri; three daughters, Roberta Lee Parrish of Columbia, Missouri, Shirley Espy and husband, Billy, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Margaret Taylor and husband, David, of Liberty, Texas; a brother, Ivan Kirby of Roswell, New Mexico; and four grandchildren.
Preceding Warren in death are his parents, Earl and Millie; a son, Bruce Kirby, in 1994; a brother, Dale Kirby; and three sisters, Erma Leighton, Alta Moser and Thelma Boltinghouse. Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Kirsch, Ruby Lorene Hampton - Ruby Lorene (Hampton) Kirsch was born February 1, 1929 in Elwood, Missouri RFD (near Springfield). She was the daughter of James Pete “JP” and Jewell Cleo (Young) Hampton. Ruby’s dad was a farmer, so she grew up on a farm northwest of Tarkio, Missouri, not far from the Farmer’s City Country Store. She attended North Polk Country School until 1935 when the family moved to the Enbody farm southwest of Tarkio. Ruby attended Central Country School until the 6th grade. At that time, her family moved to Walters Brothers farm in the Cooper neighborhood near Rock Port and Fairfax, Missouri. Ruby remembered riding the family’s white saddle pony named Doc four miles round trip to Cooper Country School with her brother Coy. She attended Tarkio and Fairfax High School for a short period during this time.

JP purchased an 80 acre farm 1 ½ miles east of Burlington Junction, Missouri, on the north side of Highway 136. Ruby finished her high school career graduating from Burlington Junction High School in 1948. After high school, Ruby continued to live with her parents working at the Post Office in Burlington Junction. It was at that time she met Walter “Hack” Kirsch, and on August 12, 1951, they were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Burlington Junction. This union was blessed with a daughter, Mary Lee. The family lived on Peckville Ranch southeast of Westboro, Missouri. In 1965, Ruby and Walter ran the Village Inn café in Westboro, and after a time, the family moved to Tarkio.

Ruby devoted most of her time to being a housewife and mother. She was also employed throughout the years at Curly’s Big Dipper in Tarkio, Earl May Garden Center, and Orscheln Farm and Home in Shenandoah, Iowa. In 2010, Ruby moved to an apartment in Farragut, Iowa, to be closer to her family.

Her hobbies included playing the guitar, listening to country music, sewing, and tending to her flowers. Ruby absolutely loved cooking and baking. She was always testing and making up new recipes, as she had tons of recipe and cookbooks! This activity was especially enjoyable when she could combine it with bird watching (especially wrens) outside her kitchen window. She thoroughly enjoyed meals and special time with family and friends. But, most of all, she loved her family. Ruby passed away Monday, August 8, 2016, at The Ambassador in Sidney, Iowa, at the age of 87.

Survivors include her daughter Mary and husband Robert Burkhiser of Farragut, Iowa, Grandson Zebulon Burkhiser and wife Jenny of Shenandoah, Iowa, Sister in Law Wanda Merric and husband Norviel of West Plains, Missouri, Uncle Preston Hampton and wife Louise of Chadwick, Missouri, plus many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents James and Jewell Hampton, brother Guy, twin sisters Leora and Lenora, brother Coy, an infant daughter, and husband Walter.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, for Charles E. Litherbury, Fairfax. Rev. Susan Noakes officiated. Burial was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Charles Eberle Litherbury was born July 24, 1928, to Ross and Helen Litherbury and passed away in his home in Fairfax, on Thursday, January 6,2011. He was the youngest of three children. Charles graduated from Fairfax High School in 1945. He attended college at Northwest Missouri State University and Ohio State University. He served his country proudly during the Korean War while assigned to the Army 7th Division, 17th Infantry Regiment, K Company, 1st squad of the 3rd platoon from 1950-1952. In November 1966, he married Dolores Ringold Thompson. Together they raised seven children.
Charles was noted for his beautiful singing voice, fishing, farming, hot cars, motorcycles and traveling. He was a master at inventing and repairing his own machinery. Charles was a knowledgeable farmer and innovator of no-till and contour farming. He spent several years farming with his son Chuck before retiring. Charles sang at many funerals in the area and he played bass guitar in Country and Western bands for more than 30 years. He first sang on KMA Radio in Shenandoah, Iowa, when he was only three years old. Planning vacations and traveling was a large part of his life. He always took his family on vacations every year to the western states and Canada. Charles and Dolores went to Alaska three times, enjoyed Christmas in Mexico eight times and took her parents, Harold and Marjorie Ringold, to Copper Canyon in southern Mexico seven times. They also spent three months in Colorado this summer fishing. They spent eighteen winters in Arizona where Charles continued to sing. One of the most enjoyable moments of his life, thanks to his daughter Charla Merriett and her husband Jim, was riding his restored 1950 Hydro-Glide Harley Davidson motorcycle in the Fairfax Fair for his 80th birthday. His latest achievement was hand-making custom gun grips from exotic wood.
He was preceded by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Dolores Litherbury, seven children, nineteen grandchildren and eight great­grandchildren. Son Chuck (Stephanie) Litherbury of Fairfax, MO, daughter Charla (Jim) Merriett of Omaha, NE, son Douglas (Ronda) Thompson of Shawnee, KS, daughter Dr. Darla (Cindy) Thompson of Cypress, TX, son David (Viva) Thompson of Omaha, NE, son Daun (Sara) Thompson of Omaha, NE, and daughter DeAnna (Greg) Lawrence of Joplin, MO. Grandchildren are Steven, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Charlie, Sammie, Holly, Rainie, Cheyenne, Trevor, Asa, Jake, Taylor, Tayne, Tauni, Jena, Jacy, Melinda, Jennifer and Kassandra. Mr. Logan, who passed away January 19, 2005, at Capitol Regional Medical Center, Jefferson City, Missouri, is survived by his wife, Joan, Tarkio, Missouri; daughters, Katherine (Bill) Erdman, Tarkio, and Samantha Nelson, Westboro, MO; three grandchildren, Melissa Erdman-Graybill, Nathan Nelson and Nicholas Nelson; four great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Dan Shaw, and wife, Mildred.

Services for Glenn McDonald, a lifelong Fairfax resident, were held Monday afternoon, Oct. 28, at the Christian Church in Fairfax, with Rev. Charles Watson in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
Mrs. Raymond Mitchell was in charge of music. Pal­lbearers were John Wells, Raymond Mitchell, Nick White, Mack Miller, Bob All-dredge, Gary Smith.

Glenn Edward McDonald, the second son of Fay Whitford and Daniel Thomas McDonald, was born Oct. 30, 1910 at Fairfax and died Oct. 25,1985 at the Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Glenn's father passed away in 1916 when Glenn was 5 years old and the family returned to Fairfax from their Kearney, Nebr. home. Glenn spent many of his early years in Fairfax. He was a member of the Fairfax Christian church and graduated from Fairfax high school. Glenn attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, then returned to take a job as teller at the Exchange Bank of Fairfax.
He made his home with his grandparents, E. C. and Emma C. Whitford, and remained to care for them in their later years.
He was married to Zella Belle Wood on July 21, 1955 and they made their home in Fairfax with his mother, Fay Whitford McDonald. Zella died Oct. 22, 1975. He continued to live with his mother in Fairfax until failing health necessitated their move to the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.
He was preceded in death by an older brother, Wesley Patrick McDonald in 1983.
Survivors inclue his mother, Mrs. Fay McDonald, Bethesda Care Center, Tarkio: his younger brother, Donovan Whitford McDonald. Columbia, So. Carolina.

Mrs. Lucy McDonald, 96, Rock Port, died Sunday morning at a nursing home there wherfe she had resided for the past five years.
She was born in Morristown, Tenn., and came to Missouri in 1913. She was a member of the Watson United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, including Mrs. Virgie Morgan, Rock Port; two sisters; one brother, one grandchild and two great­grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Minter Funeral Home, Rock Port, with Dr. Clarence Morrill officiating. Burial will be in the Linden Cemetery.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, for Virginia C. McMahon, Mound City, Missouri, formerly of Fairfax. Rev. Judy Voss officiated. Interment was made at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Virginia Corse was born November 15, 1901, in Wellington, Missouri, to William Wentworth and Anna Frances Corse, and died June 4, 2004, in Mound City, Missouri, at the age of 102 years, six months and 20 days. She was educated at Central College, Fayette, Missouri, and Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Missouri.
In 1921, she came to Fairfax and was employed as an English teacher until her marriage in 1927 to Fred R. McMahon. In later years, she was a substitute teacher, including two full terms during World War II. She was also bookkeeper for McMahon Hardware and Implement Company. Virginia enjoyed their stay in Jefferson City, Missouri, during the 14 years Fred served in the Missouri Assembly (in the 1950's and 1960's). She was involved in civic affairs and was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church, a 67-year charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 & 40 for 32 years, Sorosis, Community Hospital Auxiliary, and various bridge and social clubs.
Following Fred's death on November 13, 1970, Virginia resumed her civic activities and enjoyed traveling to the Holy Land, the Mediterranean, British Isles and continental Europe. She enjoyed crocheting for family and friends, making an afghan for each niece and nephew before her health failed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one niece; and one nephew. Surviving are a sis­ter-inlaw, 13 nieces and nephews, and numerous friends who will remember her positive impact on their lives. Memorials may be directed to the Fairfax United Methodist Church or to Community Hospital, Fairfax.

Barbara Ann Muldrew was born at Corning, Iowa, on February 16, 1953, the daughter of Russell and Germaine (Fleming) Lundquist, and entered into eternal rest at her home in Overland Park, Kansas, on Wednesday, April 9, 2003.
Barbara attended school at Holt 5 Country School, Corning Community School and also attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri. On May 29, 1976, she was united in marriage to Dennis Muldrew, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Corning. Two daughters were born to bless this union, Melissa Ann and Suzanne Michelle. Barb was able to stay at home during her daughters' growing up days.
In the last few years she had been working for Capital Federal Savings, Overland Park. Barb was an avid Kan­sas City Chiefs fan, loved be­ing around the swimming pool in the summer and working with her flowers and plants.
Barb was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her father, Russell; and infant sister, Mary Ellen.
Left to cherish Barb's memory are her husband, Denny, Overland Park; daughters, Melissa, Columbia, Missouri, and Suzanne, Overland Park; her mother, Germaine Lindquist, Corning, Iowa; two brothers, Robert M. Lindquist, Corning, and David J. Lindquist, Chariton, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Dan Muldrew and wife, Janet, Overland Park; a sister-in-law, Kathy Smith and husband, Rod, Blair, Nebraska; mother-in-law, Helen Muldrew, Fairfax; two nephews, Jeff Smith and Brian Muldrew; and two nieces, Jessica Lindquist and Jill Wolff.
Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, April 12, 2003, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Corning. Interment was made in Calvary Cemetery, Corning.

Osburn, James Richard - Services were held for James Osburn of Skidmore Saturday afternoon at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, west of Skidmore, with Rev. Jerry Moon in charge. Interment was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
Mrs. Bob Sefrit was in charge of music, and she accompanied Royce Clement and Greg Clement who sang, "America," "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Now the Day is Over."
Pallbearers were Wesley Ward, Wilson Ward, Elvin Ungles, Bill Ungles, Gary Lemon, Stanley Osburn.

James Richard Osburn was born Nov. 12, 1912 at Craig the son of H. Cooper and Allie Curry Osburn and died Wednesday, Oct. 7,1987 at the Community Hospital, Fairfax at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 25 days.
He graduated from Daleview High School. He was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Skidmore Eastern Star, and Skidmore Masonic Lodge.
He was married to Mary Lou Noe, and they made their home on a farm in the Daleview and Dotham areas until 1943 when they moved to Skidmore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, brother and sister: Mary Lou this summer; Barbara Jean in 1953; Judy Combs in 1981; Dale Osburn and Wilma Burke.
Survivors include one son, Donald Osburn, Columbia; one daughter, Joyce James, Houston, Tex.; six grandchildren, Holly Fisher, James Combs, Mitch Osburn, Michael Osburn, Lynn Kahln, Lori Coulter.

Roberta Ellen O'Shel, age 84, passed away at Vintage Manor in Emporia. She was born on January 24,1920, in Oregon, Missouri, to Frank and Vella (Graves) Martin. She married Walter O. O'Shel on August 7,1946, at Salina, Kansas. She was a home-maker. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1995.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by brothers, Dale Martin, Warren Quimby and Floyd Quimby; and sisters, Ruth Jackson and Fern Root.

Mr. Donald Lee "Shot" Oswald, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Thursday, December 25,2003, at his home. Mr. Oswald worked for Minor, Hunter and Boswell at the St. Joseph Stockyards. He later started the firm of United Livestock Marketing Services with Ed Czerwien, retiring in 1996. He was born September 27, 1925, near Rock Port, Missouri. He attended Irish Grove High School, near Fairfax, Missouri. He moved to St. Joseph in 1956.
During World War II, Donald served with the United States Army. In January of 1955 he married Agnes Wilson. She preceded him in death in 1986. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Amanda Katherine Oswald; four brothers, Lewis Oswald, Maurice. "Bill" Oswald, Robert "Bud" Oswald and John "Hank" Oswald; and a sister, Marjorie Oswald.
Donald was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church; Fairfax Lodge No. 483, A.F. & A.M.; Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason; and the Moila Shrine. He also enjoyed fishing.

Services were held at 10 a.m. today at the Fairfax Christian Church for Mrs. Mary Jane Park, 79, who died Friday at a Fairfax hospital after a long illness. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one sister; three daughters, one of whom is Mrs. Letha Flynn, Tarkio; one son, Wayman Park, Fairfax, nine grandchildren and seven great grand children.

Parsons, Garrett Dakota - Garrett Dakota Parsons, the son of Lonnie Gene Parsons and Sandra Jeanette (Stevens) Lansdown, was born May 15, 1990, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri. He later earned his GED.

Garrett worked for Stanley Harmon Construction in Rock Port, Subway in Shenandoah, Iowa, and McDonald’s in Rock Port. Garrett passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016, in Rock Port at the age of 26.

Garrett was preceded in death by grandfather, Gene Parsons, and aunt, Genie Perry and uncle, Jody Parsons. Resler, Robert F. "Rob" - Robert F. “Rob” Resler, the son of Robert Herman and Eula Glenn (Jones) Resler, was born July 31, 1951, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Fairfax High School, graduating in 1970.

Rob worked for years as a farm hand for H.A. Sly and formerly at the Walnut Shop in Fairfax. He was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Rob passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at his home in Fairfax at the age of 65.

Besides his parents, Rob was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Thomas Resler. Local survivors include cousins, David Howell and wife, Kathy, and Gary Howell and wife, Vivian, all of Maryville, Missouri. Aunts, uncles and numerous cousins out-of-state.

Scheiding, Verona Mabel Bock - Verona Mabel Scheidig died Friday morning, Aug 21, 1987 at Community Hospital, Fairfax at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 9 days. She was born Nov. 12, 1901 near Corning, the daughter of John Bock and Dora Ahrens Bock.
She was baptised and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Corning.
She married William Scheiding on Feb. 28, 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corning.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Scheiding; her sister, Doris Bock Currie; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bock; and her step son, Edgar Scheiding.
Survivors are a daughter-in-law, Helen Scheiding of Golden, Colo.; two grandsons, Steve Scheiding, Dale Scheiding; two great granddaughters, Angela Scheiding, Amy Scheiding, all of Longmont, Colo.

Schooler, Esther Lea Zachary - Esther Lea Schooler was born Nov. 7, 1895 near Mound City the daughter of Pleasant W. and Nancy Virginia Lea Browning Zachary and died at the Pleasant View Rest Home, Rock Port, Aug. 22,1987 at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 15 days.
She was raised in the Mound City area and graduated from school there. She attended Cameron College and majored in music.
She was married to Claude Brown in 1922. They lived in Fairfax and she was employed at Pollys Variety store in Fairfax. Mr. Brown died in 1948.
In 1950 she married B.B. Schooler of Fairfax and they made their home on the farm near Fairfax. He preceded her in death in 1955.
In 1985 she left the farm and moved to Pleasent View Rest Home, Rock Port. Esther was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two step-sons and one step­daughter, Wayne Schooler, Floyd Schooler, Fairfax; Mrs. Eldon Pierson, Shenandoah, la; six step-grandchildren; five nieces, Elisabeth Sharp, Mrs. Forrest Johnson, both of Craig; Betty Fuhrman, Shawnee Mission, Ks; Helen Thiesfeld, Fairfax; Mary Dean Borns, San Martin, Calif.

Lucile Stalcup. age 92, Lawrence. Kansas, passed away on Sunday February 13, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Private inurnment services will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Fairfax.
Lucile was born October 6, 1912, in Fairfax to Ethel (Peden) and C.J. Lackey. She spent her childhood in Fairfax and graduated from Missouri State Teachers College (Northwest Missouri State University) in 1934 with a B.S. in education and a M.S. in education at Ohio State University in 1938.
Lucile enjoyed a career is an elementary teacher and touched hundreds of children at Deerfield, East Heirms, Hillcrest, New York, Sunset and Woodlawn elementary schools in Lawrence as as other public schools in Kansas, Michigan and Missouri from 1935-1976. Lucile was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was active for more than 50 years in the FZ Chapter of PEO and was a member in the society for women educators, Delta Kappa Gamma.
Lucile and her husband, Max, volunteered at the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutritional Kitchen (LINK) for many years. Lucile was an avid reader and found much joy spending time with her grandchildren. She was married to Max Stalcup on July 19, 1940, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Lucile and Max were longtime Lawrence residents, moving there in 1952 from Atchison, Kansas.
Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and C.J. Lackey; and husband, Max, in 1998. Survivors include three children, Sharon Mendlick, Olathe, Kansas, Mary Ann Stalcup, Pennsacola, Florida, and W.M. Stalcup, Jr., Cheyenne, Wyoming; and five grandchildren, Amy Klein, Omaha, Nebraska, Marcia Mendlick, Flagstaff, Arizona, Dr. Matt Mendlick, Tucson, Arizona, Cody Stalcup, Laramie, Wyoming, and Gabe Stalcup, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I. Jane (Huffman) Steele, age 83, passed away Friday, November 14, 2003, at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax. She was born on August 31,1920, in Langdon, Missouri. She graduated from Nishna High School in 1938. On June 25, 1938, she married James E. Steele. He preceded her in death.
Jane was also preceded in death by parents, Grover E. and Zelda M. (Farley) Huffman; infant twin girls; infant twin boys; brothers, Richard and Perry Huffman; and a sister, Dorothy Lawrence.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynda and husband, Ron Tyrl, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Gail Chamberlain, Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Ryan Tyrl, Laura (Tyrl) Wever, Craig Tyrl and Meghan Chamberlain; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Tyrl and Jack Wever.

Stoner, DeLora Pauline McClurg - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 13, for Mrs Herschel Stoner at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, conducted by Rev Blake Richter. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Miss Thalia Beck was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs Margaret Graves, Soloist.

Pallbearers were: Chester McClurg, Dean McClurg, Gerald McClurg, John McClurg, Dale McClurg, Wayne Brown and Greg Lesan.

DeLora Pauline Stoner was born near Pickering June 21, 1903, the daughter of Thomas Lockhard and Sarah Etta Ingels McClurg, and died at Community Hospital in Fairfax June 10, 1984 at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 19 days.

She was raised in the Pickering and Maryville areas. She graduated from Maryville high school and attended Maryville College. She graduated from Gard's Business College in St Joseph and was employed at the Henry Field Seed Company when she met Herschel Stoner.

Herschel and Delora were married at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church Oct 22, 1932. They lived all their married life in Fairfax with the exception of three years when Herschel went into the Army. He was stationed in St Louis so they made their home there from 1942 until 1945, then returned to Fairfax to make their home.

Mrs Stoner was a member of the Atchison County Extension Club, Atchison County Democratic Women's Association, Fairfax Sorosis and the Fairfax Presbyterian Church.

She joined the Fairfax Prebyterian Church by letter on Easter Sunday, 1933, and has been an active member ever since. She belonged to the Willing Workers and Women's Missionary Society. She served as president of these groups many times. The missions were her main church priorities and she was a member of St Joseph Presbyterial and she stayed on the Presbyterian board and Synodical board many years, also serving as president many times.

She was a choir member and taught in the Sunday school continuously since 1934, and was deacon of the Fairfax church.

DeLora was preceded in death by her parents, five and brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Herschel, of the home; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Minter Funeral Chapel, Rock Port, for Mrs. Margaret Stoner, 67, who died Friday at a hospital in Fairfax.
A member of a prominent farming family, she moved to Rock Port in 1953, and was a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church, and Chapter DU, PEO Sisterhood.
Survivors include her husband, Lewis Stoner, of the home; one son, Larry Stoner, Rock Port; one sister, one brother and three grand­children.
Burial will be in the High Creek Cemetery near Rock Port. Dr. Clarence Morrill will officiate at the services.

MARYVILLE DAILY FORUM, Maryville, Missouri Sep 13, 1971

Taylor, Robert Lee - Robert Lee Taylor of Pickering, a former Fairfax resident, was fatally injured about 8 am Nov 22 when the pickup truck he was driving struck a bridge on Route CC, about one half of a mile north of Maryville. He was taken to the St Frances Hospital in Maryville, where he died a short time after arrival.

The Highway Patrol stated he was southbound on Route CC when his vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the side of a concrete bridge. Troopers said Taylor was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Robert Lee Taylor, son of Jesse Everette and Minnie Ethel Flanagan Taylor, was born Oct 3, 1931 at Corning, Mo and died at St Frances Hospital in Maryville, Nov 22, 1988 at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Robert was united in marriage to Mary Louise Haun on Sept 3, 1950 at Fairfax. To this union one son and five daughters were born: Tim Taylor, Rock Port; Phyllis Laws, Clarksville, Tn; Barbara Taylor, Fairfax; Diane Boynton, Sylvster, Ga; Cathey McAdams, Tarkio; Rose McClaskey, Lenexa, Ks. Mary Lou passed away on Aug 25, 1980.

On May 12, 1986 he was united in marriage to Dorla VanSickle at Maryville.

Robert was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Maryville, where he was a Sunday school teacher for the adult class. He was also serving as vice president for the Pickering Fire Board. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, retiring in 1976. He received the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Prior to his retirement his last assignment was in Germany. He was active in commuity affairs and was always willing to lend a hand for others.

Thomson, Margaret Isabelle Sillers - Funeral services were held for Mrs Eugene Thomson of Fairfax Monday morning at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev Blake Richter.

Miss Thalia Beck was in charge of music and she accompanied Margaret Graves, soloist, who say "In the Garden".

Pallbearers were B.J. Umbarger, Tim Umbarger, Brad Umbarger, Robert Thomson, Gary Tomson, Richard Thomson.

Margaret Isabelle was born in Fairfax Dec 17, 1908, the daughter of Peter James and Mattie Isaccson Sillers, and died at the Fairfax hospital Oct 4, 1985 at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 17 days.

She grew up in the Fairfax community and graduated from the Daleview High School. She graduated from Tarkio College, then taught in the rural schools for six years. Then she taught the second grade at Fairfax for 26 years before retiring in 1975.

She married Eugene Thomson April 28, 1932 in the Presbyterian manse in Fairfax. They made their home on a farm east of Fairfax until Dec 1970, when they moved to their present home in town. For a short time they lived in Atlanta, Ga., where Gene was employed at a federal penitentiary.

They are parents of two daughters, Beverly Jean and Marjorie Dean.

Margaret was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, served as a church elder, and was active in the ladies missionary society. She also belonged to the Fairfax Garden Club and the hospital auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters; Charles Sillers, Clyde Lowman, Eula Penrod and Ethel Nease.

Survivors include the husband of the home in Fairfax and two daughters: Beverly (Mrs Sam) Gnuse of Altamont, Ill., and Marjorie (Mrs Bill) Umbarger of Fairfax, and six grandchilren.

The family suggests memorials to the Presbyterian Church or Community Hospital, Fairfax.

Van Gundy, Ralph - Ralph Van Gundy, 64, St Joseph, died May 29 in a St Joseph Hospital. He was a native of Fairfax and was the son of the late Wilbur and Lucille Van Gundy. He spent much of his early life in the Fairfax area in the Milton community. He had lived in St Joseph for the past 35 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Army. He was the owner and operator of a restaurant in St Joseph for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Van Gundy of the home; four daughters, Shirley A. Malotte, Cyndra M. Lorey, Annette L. Swett, all of St Joseph; Debra K. Wharton, Independence; a son, Randy Van Gundy, St Joseph; two brothers, Russell Van Gundy, Maryville; Forrest Van Gundy, San Antonio, Tex; two sisters, Lois Elliott, Milan; Eva Harris, Albuquerque, NM; seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 1 at the Floral Hills Colonial Chapel in St Joseph. Burial was in IOOF cemetery, Craig.

On the afternoon of May 15th, friends and relatives gathered at the Ray Steele farmstead northwest of Fairfax. There they attended a memorial service for Elizabeth Vanderburgh of Oakland, California, who died January 22, 2004. "Bette" was born and raised in the farmhouse that once stood at that site, and she had requested that her ashes be scattered there.
Elizabeth Ellen Steele was born September 13, 1917, the second child of Ray and Ferol Steele. While she spent most of her adult life in the San Francisco area, Bette was a frequent visitor to Fairfax and was well known to many in the area. She was preceded in death by husband, Warren Vanderburgh, brother, Jim Steele, sister, Marge Brown, and grandson, David Bashinski.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Jan Bashinski of El Dorado Hills, Cali­fornia, Susan Vanderburgh of Oakland, California, John Vanderburgh of Guam, and Reid Vanderburgh of Portland, Oregon. She is also survived by brother, John Steele, of St. Louis, Missouri, and sister, Martha Evans, of Peoria, Illinois.

Cris Tina VanDeventer, age 40, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax. She was born on October 3, 1964, in Fairfax, to Bruce and Iva (Luna) VanDeventer. She lived in Mound City all of her life, growing up on a farm north of town. Cris graduated from high school in 1983.
During high school she was a dietary aide at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home in Mound City. After graduation, she attended cosmetology school in St. Joseph, Missouri, then worked for Officer's Beauty Shop in Mound City. She also worked at Benne's Law Office. Cris was currently a receptionist at Dr. Hunter's office in Fairfax. Cris lived life to the fullest, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She enjoyed the outdoors and loved antiques.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Thomas W. and Genetta V. (Stoner) VanDeventer and Wilbur L. and Mary Luna. Survivors include her fiance', Mike Rasnic; her parents, Bruce and Iva (Luna) VanDeventer; a sister, Carol and husband, Bob Brandon; and a brother, Tom, and his wife, Patsy VanDeventer. The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Association.

Lylis Lavee Vandever of St. Joseph, died at Heartland East Hospital, St. Joseph, April 24, 1988 at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 18 days. She was born at Fairfax on Aug. 6, 1926, the daughter of William F. and Okie M. Stamper Thiesfeld, and attended school at Daleview and Walkup's Grove.
On Dec. 1, 1945 she married John Vandever and they farmed in the area several years, and then Mr. Vandever began working for the railroad and in later years they made their home in St. Joseph.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are four sons and two daughters: Dewayne C. Vandever, Layton, Utah; John R. Vandever, Kansas City; James E. Vandever, William B. Vandever, Sheila K Merriott, Okie L. Nelson, all of St. Joseph; 12 grandchildren; and three brothers: Harry Thiesfeld, Glenco, Minn.; Richard Thiesfeld, Fairfax; Dewayne Thiesfeld, Rock Port.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John C. Vandever on Jan. 5, 1987; brother, Winifred (Junior) Thiesfeld, July 26,1976,
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Fairfax Wednesday afternoon, April 27, conducted by Rev. Larry Lindsay of St. Joseph. Interment was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Cecil L. "Les" Vaught, age 76, passed away on Monday, January 20,2003, in Greeley. He was born on January 28, 1926, in Fairfax, Missouri, to B. Fielder and Etta Mae (Poe) Vaught. Les attended school at Irish Grove in Fairfax. In September 1953 he married Lois (Wake) Stevenson in Fairfax. Les served in Germany during World War II. He enjoyed breaking and training horses. Les liked camping and dogs and he was an accomplished storyteller with an anecdote for everything. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist in Windsor.
Survivors include his wife, Lois N. Vaught, Milliken; sons, James E. Stevenson, Greeley, and John W. Stevenson, and wife, Debbie, of Midland, Texas; daughters, Benita A. Melford D. Waits, age 84, Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2002. Mr. Waits was born on April 6, 1918, in Fairfax, Missouri. He played basketball for Tarkio College and was a charter member of Tarkio College's Athletic Hall of Fame.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio, Missouri, for James W. Wallace of Fairfax, Missouri. Interment was held at English Grove Cemetery in Fairfax. Reverend Ken Wallace officiated. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
James, the son of William Andrew, Sr., and Nellie Diana (Hodge) Wallace, was born July 28, 1970, in Fairfax. He attended Fairfax High School, graduating in 1988.
On February 14, 1998, James was united in marriage to Melissa Jean Morris at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio. They made their home in Westboro, Missouri, then Queen Creek, Arizona, before returning to Fairfax in 2001. James passed away Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Community Hospital Fairfax at the age of 42.
James was employed by TMC Trucking for five years and by Waller Trucking until 2010. He was currently employed by MFA Oil Company, Fairfax.
James was preceded in death by brother, William Andrew Wallace, Jr.; sister, Betty Mae Wallace; grandparents, Glen and Ruth Wallace, Betty Mae Kirk, Nellie Slemp, and Frank Hodge; and niece, Shana Wallace. Interment was made in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
Myrtle Marie Whitford passed away November 28, 2003, at the Northview Manor Nursing Home in Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 83. She was born February 2,1920, in Dora, Missouri, to parents, Charles and Bertha Faulkner. They moved to the Fairfax area when Myrtle was a young girl where she attended the Irish Grove School, graduating in 1937. She was married in 1938 to James T. Whitford who preceded her in death in 1998. They made their home on a farm south of Fairfax.
Myrtle worked many years in local businesses that included the Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax Manufacturing Company and, for over twenty years, as a dental assistant for Dr. N.L. Cleveland. Myrtle was always kind, hardworking, loved to laugh, and enjoyed her many friends and family.
In addition to her husband, Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ezra Faulkner; and her son, James Earl. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bond of Clifton, Virginia, and Beverly Gentry of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Joann Whitford of Maysville, Missouri; two brothers, Dale Faulkner of Tarkio, Missouri, and Jim Faulkner of Bolivar, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Angela Bond, Allison Guckert, Bethany Bond-Torres, Brian Gentry, Mercedes Gentry, Elizabeth Gentry, Joshua Whitford, and Jessica Whitford; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Kylie Guckert.

Windhorst, Johnathan Wesley - Johnathan Wesley Windhorst the son of Wesley Lee Windhorst and Kathy Sue (Grundel) Elder, was born on December 16, 1981, in Fairfax, Missouri. Johnathan attended Fairfax, Missouri, schools, and earned his GED in May of 2010.

Johnathan farmed with his grandfather, Willie Windhorst, and had been employed as a cook in area restaurants. He passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the age of 29 years.

Johnathan was preceded in death by his sister, Ashley Phillippe, and grandparents, Willie and Mildred Windhorst. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Kathy and Jim Elder, Tarkio; sister, April Speers and her husband, Jason, Wichita, Kansas; brother, James L. Elder, Jr., Tarkio; grandparents, Betty and Ken Wallace, Tarkio, and Russell and Judy Grundel, Craig, Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Linda Sue Windhorst was born at Hamburg, la. July 14,1949 and died at an Omaha, Nebr. hospital April 13,1988 at the age of 38 years, 8 months and 19 days.
She graduated from the Rock Port high school, class of 1967, and had attended beautician school in St. Joseph. She married Emmett Windhorst on Aug. 10, 1968, and they made their home on a farm near Fairfax.
Linda loved people, and following the loss of her eye sight, she became interested in tractor pulls in which she competed and had won several trophies. She and her friends enjoyed playing cards and visiting.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dick Hartman in 1977; two brothers, Raymond Hartman in 1968 and Johnny Hartman in 1950.
Survivors include the husband, Emmett of the home; her mother, Velma Hartman, Watson; a brother, Donald Hartman, Waverly, Mo.; and eight sisters, Mary Hartman, Rock Port; Helen Dinger, Orlando, Fla.; Betty Gardner, San Diego, Calif.; Wilma Hendrickson, Watson; Dorothy Roger, Lois Simpson, both of Lincoln, Nebr.; Carolyn Adams, Kramer, Nebr.; and Eileen Harrison, Fairfax.
