Beckman, Lowell Henry - Lowell Henry Beckman, the son of William Henry and Callie (Shankel) Beckman, was born March 22, 1926, in Westboro, Missouri. He attended Westboro High School, graduating in 1944. After High School he attended Tarkio College until he decided to join the Navy to serve his country overseas in WW2.

After the war Lowell came home and he met the love of his life Betty Ellyn Dragoo and on March 23, 1947, Lowell and Betty were united in marriage. They became the parents of five children, Micheal Lowell, Douglas Martin, (twins) Phillip Allen and Phyllis Ellyn and then later on in life, Jill Leigh. They had just celebrated 69 wonderful years together.

In May of 1949, Lowell entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country for 30 years, receiving his early honorable discharge in June of 1974. In 1962 during his service in the Navy he served on a destroyer as a Chief Petty Officer in special communications. In 1964 he was commissioned to the Pentagon in Washington D.C., then to a ship in Norfolk, Virginia for three years before returning to work in the Pentagon. Lowell was commissioned with the Joint Chiefs of Staff supervising complex computerized message processing with outstanding results and was awarded the MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL from the President of the United States. During this time his middle son Douglas Martin was killed in action in the Vietnam War.

Following his honorable discharge in 1974, they made their home in Orlando, Florida, where Lowell owned and operated Beckman Company. In 1986, they returned home to Tarkio, Missouri, where he farmed the Beckman family farm in Westboro. In 1990, Lowell and Betty moved to the farm in Westboro until ill health forced their move back to Tarkio. Lowell passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at SSM Health St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri, at the age of 90.

Lowell was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tarkio.

Besides his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by sons, Doug Beckman and Dr. Micheal Beckman; sisters, Phyllis and Lillias Beckman; and brother, Billy Beckman. Survivors include wife, Betty, Maryville; sister-in law, Mary Lou Broermann and husband, Gene; sister-in law, Doris Ann Stanton; son, Phil Beckman, Orlando; daughters, Phyllis Brown and husband, Lyle, Rock Port, Missouri, and Jill Caudill and husband, Bryan, Tarkio; grandchildren, Kristy Noland and husband, Donny, Jeff Beckman, Daniel Beckman and wife, Nichole, Jason Baugh and Laura, Megan Culver, Melissa Culver, Amanda Culver and Emmy Laur; step-grandchildren, Kecia Caudill, Emilee Caudill, Grace Caudill, Makenna Caudill; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Broermann, C. Duane - C. Duane Broermann, the son of William Henry and Caroline (Kemper) Broermann, was born March 2, 1930, in Westboro, Missouri. He attended Yale Country School, northwest of Tarkio, Missouri, and Tarkio High School, graduating in 1948. Duane attended Tarkio College for one year. On March 18, 1952, he entered the United States Army and faithfully served his country for two years, during the Korean War, receiving his honorable discharge on February 27, 1954.

On June 20, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Rowena Jones at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Westboro. They made their home in the Westboro area, where they farmed the family farm and became the parents of one son, Don.

Duane was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as a former president of the church council and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Duane served as a 4-H member and leader. He loved to golf, bowl, play ping pong, softball, baseball and basketball. Duane passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Shenandoah Medical Center, Shenandoah, at the age of 86.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife, Rowena; son, Don Broermann and wife, Mitzi, Jefferson City, Missouri; grandsons, Tyler Broermann, Jefferson City, and Eric Runde and wife, Rachel, Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother, Gene Broermann and wife, Mary Lou, Westboro; and numerous other family members.

Burke, Gilbert - Gilbert N. Burke, the son of Willis and Gwendolyn (Underwood) Burke was born November 12, 1933, in Rock Port, Missouri. He attended Rock Port area country schools and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1951. Gilbert attended the University of Nebraska for a short time before joining his father and brothers at Burke and Sons Lumber Company.

On July 20, 1953, Gilbert was united in marriage to Phyllis New at the Rock Port United Methodist Church. A chicken house on the family farm was converted into a home for the newlyweds.

On March 4, 1955, Gilbert entered the United States Army and served his country for two years. After receiving his honorable discharge on March 1, 1957, Gilbert and Phyllis returned to Rock Port where they raised two sons, Michael and Brad.

Gilbert continued his career with Burke and Sons. He was gifted in the design and construction of new homes, additions and any type of unique project their customers requested. He could “see” the end product before its design, which afforded him the opportunity to work hundreds of projects to their completion. Following his retirement in 1999, he and Phyllis began wintering in Arizona. In 2001, they made Chandler, Arizona their permanent home. Phyllis passed away March 11, 2006.

On April 14, 2007, Gilbert was united in marriage to Ann Schoonover at the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port. They made their home in Rock Port and also spent time in Chandler where Gilbert loved hiking in the mountains.

Gilbert loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed flying, watching birds, squirrels and etc. He could “fix” anything, and was continually in the middle of a project. In his recent years, Gilbert enjoyed coffee time at various local gathering places and ice cream at McDonald’s.

In April of 2015 Gilbert moved to Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri, where he passed away March 12, 2016, at the age of 82.

Besides his parents and wife, Phyllis, Gilbert was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Reed Burke. Survivors include his wife, Ann, Rock Port; sons, Michael Burke, Maryville, and Brad Burke and his wife, Julie, Rock Port; grandchildren, Jesse Kendall and his wife, Michelle, Rock Port, Emily Burke, Kirksville, Missouri, and Katie Burke, Rock Port; and numerous step children, nieces and nephews.

Caudill, Casondra Kaye Carlson - Casondra Kaye Caudill, the daughter of Calvin and Janet Morton, (Fairfax, Missouri) and Mark and Lorie Carlson, (Bellevue, Nebraska) was born July 9, 1983, in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Fairfax High School and graduated in 2001. Cassie attended Iowa Western Community College, Clarinda, Iowa, for two years.

In October 2009, Cassie was united in marriage to Bryan Caudill. They made their home in Tarkio, Missouri, and became the parents of Emilee, Cynthia and MaKenna. They later divorced.

In 2006, Cassie received her Certified Nurse’s Assistant certificate and was employed by Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri. She also worked at Northview Manor and Tarkio Rehabilitation and Healthcare and cared for the developmentally disabled at Northwest Missouri Living Center in Tarkio. Cassie passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at a Sioux City, Iowa, hospital.

Cassie was a member of the Tarkio Baptist Church and the Fairfax United Methodist Church. Her life revolved around being a mother. From helping with dance recitals and coaching youth volleyball, she would do anything for her girls. She had a contagious smile and laugh and always made time for her family and friends. She enjoyed riding ATV’s, camping and baking. Cassie had many great summer memories spent with family in Colorado. She would spend hours playing cards, games, painting nails and dressing up with her girls. Cassie loved life. She chose to be an organ donor and because of her gift many lives will be saved and she will be remembered as a hero.

Cassie was preceded in death by grandparents, Kenneth and Eleanor Morton, Richard H. Carlson, Lee and Mary Vanderpool, Harold “Midge” and Maudie Farley, Jim and Marge Postlewait and Tom Hesby; and aunt, Sandra Carlson. Survivors include four daughters, Emilee Caudill, Cynthia Gracie Caudill and MaKenna (Mac) Caudill, all of Tarkio, and Kecia Caudill, Glenwood, Iowa; parents, Cal and Janet Morton, Fairfax, Mark and Lori Carlson, Bellevue, Nebraska, Cindy and Rob Stevens, Tarkio, and Brenda Sears; sisters, Amanda and Ryan Towner and daughter, Audrey, Crystal and Kamron Woodring and their children, Payton and Parker; brother, Jacob Beck; sister, Katie Beck; and brother, Daniel Garza; grandparents, Betty Carlson, Laurie and Jack Sears; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Craven, Laurel Electa Meyer - Laurel Electa (Meyer) Craven, the daughter of Fred and Lucille (Emery) Meyer, passed away on April 5, 2016, at the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 81. Laurel was born in rural Fremont County, Iowa, on July 19, 1934.

Laurel attended Lone Willow country school, Westboro Grade School, Northboro High School, and graduated from Westboro High, Westboro, Missouri, in 1952. She graduated from Commercial Extension Business College and worked in Omaha for several years.

Laurel was united in marriage to Hale Craven at the Locust Grove Methodist Church in rural Shenandoah, Iowa, on December 1, 1957. On March 1, 1958, they moved to a farm southeast of Fairfax, Missouri. They resided on this farm until 2013 when they moved to Tarkio, Missouri.

Laurel was a member of the Fairfax Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She also worked part time for Fairfax Manufacturing Company, Community Hospital and Oxy-Med Inc., all of Fairfax, and the Heartland Recreation Center in Tarkio.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Laurel is survived by her husband, Hale, of 59 years; three sons, Brian Craven, Fairfax, Brett Craven and his wife, Renee, Northboro, Iowa, and Clark Craven, Bangkok, Thailand; two granddaughters, Chasidy Nicole (Matt) Bryl, Papillion, Nebraska, (and great-grandson, Drake Bryl and great-granddaughter, Eliana Bryl) and Brittney Mae (Bradley) Smelt, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Coral (Ken) Elandt and Carol Barnes; three sisters-in-law, Beulah Waggoner, Lois (Jim) Powell, and Phyllis Craven.

DeWees, Donna J. Patton Rightsell - Donna J. DeWees was born on April 22, 1947 near Fairfax, Missouri. She was one of eight children of Roy Sylvester and Nora Jean (Bell) Patton. Donna attended school in Rock Port.
In 1969 she married James W. Rightsell, and they became parents of five children. They divorced in 1990. Donna later married Bruce DeWees in 1999. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Donna passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at an Omaha, Nebraska hospital at the age of 68.
In addition to her husband, Bruce, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dorothy Reisinger and Carrie Brebe; and brothers, Archie, Jim and R.D. Thornton.
Survivors include her children, Rick (Melanie) Rightsell of Bellevue, Nebraska, Dianna (Larry) Liess of Rock Port, Jim (Mistie) Rightsell of Tarkio, Bill Rightsell of Auburn, Nebraska, and Devon Rightsell and his significant other, Melissa Holthaus of Tarkio; sisters, Jean (Ernie) Erdman of Divide, Colorado and Sharon Patton of Tarkio; seven grandchildren, Amanda and Jessica Liess, Melissa Mathews, Adam and Daniel Liess, and Christopher and Heather Rightsell; significant other, Thomas Woolridge; and her favorite grand-dog, Junior.
Donna worked as a certified nurse assistant at Pleasant View Care Center. She also worked as a bartender.

Vada Miran Fender was born Jan. 14, 1926 outside of Parsons, Kan. to Frank G. and Stella (Willson) Smith. The family moved to Tarkio, Mo. where she attended a country school, and then Tarkio High School.

Vada lived in Tarkio most of her life, and then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks area for several years before moving to Rock Port, Mo. She was currently living in an assisted living facility in Nebraska.

Vada passed away on July 4, 2016 at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; four husbands; nine brothers; one sister; son, Steve; and step daughter, Nancy Cox.

Surviving loved ones include her sons, Larry (Sue) Campbell of Raymore, Mo., David (Sarah) Campbell of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; daughter, Linda (Bill) Wernecke of Fremont, Neb.; stepchildren, Linda S. (Vernon) Schaeffer of Tarkio, Roxanne (John) Maygar of Montgomery, Penn., Rick (Debbe) Richardson of Villisca, Iowa, and David (Joanne) Fender of Auburn, Neb.; stepson-in-law, Dan Cox of Omaha, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Fuhrman, Margaret Elizabeth Pilkington - Margaret Elizabeth (Pilkington) Fuhrman arrived in this world on May 30, 1963, the only child and "princess" to parents Willodean L. (King) and Omer Pilkington. They lived in Forest City, Missouri. Margaret graduated from South Holt High School in Oregon, Missouri in 1981.

On September 10, 2011, she was united in marriage to Chris A. Fuhrman at Rock Port United Methodist Church by Pastor Bruce Jeffries. The entire ceremony was lovingly put together by their closest friends who even picked the date deliberately (9-10-11) so Chris could remember - and he always did! The bond between Chris and Margaret was forged almost 20 years ago by a chance meeting at a church auction in Mound City, Missouri.

Margaret passed away May 31, 2016, less than a day after her 53rd birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Julia Pilkington and Uncle Grover Pilkington. Survivors include her husband Chris (Rock Port, Missouri) and sister-in-law Marlene (Paso Robles, California), "mom and dad" Janice and Ralph Phelps and an amazing host of dear friends across several counties.

Margaret was always genuinely interested in the people in her communities, both past and present, and attended numerous life events of countless individuals, from birthdays and graduations to funerals and attended most school functions. She was 'everywhere' checking on folks and their families as well as volunteering tirelessly, while being an exceptional caregiver and loving companion to her husband Chris. Her unique expressions and smile can be summed up as she was "quite a Margaret".

Margaret was a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church and sang in the chancel choir. She was secretary of the United Methodist Women’s Unit of the Rock Port United Methodist Church. She loved music, both hymns and country, and also expressed herself in baking, a variety of crafts, and applying brilliant combinations of colors in adult coloring books. While the mountain of books in her home attests to her love of reading, and the outpouring of love attests to the dedicated relationships she forged, her priority was always the Lord, in whose care she now resides.

Gasper, Anita Marie Calfee - Mrs Tom Gasper of Fairfax died at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb. Sunday after being a patient there a week.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax with Rev Blake Richter in charge. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Pallbearers were Bob Svoboda, Mike Fisher, Scott Hawkins, John Roop, Larry Hawkins, Danny Kemerling. Mrs Duane Deatz was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs Herb Sutter, vocalist.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Anita Marie was born May 24, 1949 at Elmo the daughter of Donovan Dean and Rose Marie Adkins Calfee and died Nov 24, 1985 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebr at the age of 36 years and 6 months.

When she was seven years old her family moved to Fairfax where her father was a barber with Bill Shineman. She attended the Fairfax school and graduated from FHS in 1967 and graduated from NWMSU, Maryville in 1972.

For the past two and a half years, she has taught art at FHS.

On Oct 16, 1971 she was married to Thomas R. Casper at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax. They made their home in Rock Port for a time as Mr Gasper worked at MBP and Anita continued her college education. They were parents of one son, Tommy II. Several years ago they moved to Fairfax and she became the art teacher in the local school.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairfax; a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association; and worked with the Cub Scouting program in Fairfax.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Hatleback, Bryan N. - Bryan Nelson Hatleback, the son of Richard and Sally (Morgan) Hatleback, was born April 6, 1959, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He attended Rhinelander High School, graduating in 1977. Bryan attended one year of college and then attended trade school in Staples, Minnesota, to study photo finishing maintenance.

On December 20, 1986, Bryan was united in marriage to Katheryn Fern Goerner in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They became the parents of two sons, Nathan and Brandon and made their home in Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado before moving to Fairfax, Missouri, in 2007. While in Colorado, Bryan was employed by Qualex Photo, as a photo finishing maintenance technician. Bryan was currently employed by Midwest Data Center, Rock Port, Missouri, as a device repair technician. Bryan very quickly proved his ability to “fix anything”, repairing delicate electronic devices, and in some cases return them to the customer functioning better than brand new.

Bryan passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at National Jewish Health Hospital, Denver, Colorado, at the age of 57.

Bryan was preceded in death by his parents Richard Hatleback and Sally Somers, step father, Marino DiGiacomo, father-in-law Lloyd Branson and brother-in-law Kenny Goerner. Survivors include wife, Katheryn Hatleback, Fairfax; sons, Nathan Hatleback, Denver, and Brandon (Jennifer Burney) Hatleback, Rock Port; two brothers, Craig Hatleback and Jay Hatleback and his wife Bridget, sister, Julie Hatleback, all of Harshaw, Wisconsin; mother-in-law, Sharley Branson, Rock Port, sister-in-law Lorri Sleeth of Colorado, brother-in-law Steven Goerner of Colorado, Derek (Sheila) Branson of Washington, Ryan (Pam) Branson of Oregon, Miles (Timi) Branson of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herron, Karen A. Schnegelberger - Karen A. Herron, the daughter of Henry P. and Naomi Caroline (Voltmer) Schnegelberger, was born May 20, 1939, in Hamburg, Iowa. She attended school in Nishnabotna and Corning, Missouri, graduating from Craig High School, Craig, Missouri, in 1957. Upon graduation, Karen attended one year of business school in St. Joseph, Missouri. Karen then returned to her home in Nishnabotna and for five years was employed by the Atchison County ASCS office in Rock Port.

On July 10, 1960, Karen was united in marriage to Marvin L. Herron at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Craig. For 56 years they made their home on the family farm north of Rock Port and became the parents of two daughters, Valerie and Thea.

Karen was a true farmer’s wife, helping with the daily farm chores as well as raising and caring for her two daughters. She was an excellent baker, decorating cakes for birthdays, weddings, and numerous school events for over 25 years. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, tending to her flower garden, African Violets and her Koi fish pond. She also loved her Pomeranian dog, Rusty. Karen was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Corning. Karen passed away Monday, July 18, 2016, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 77.

Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by brothers-in law, Don Naiberk and Willard Herron, and sisters-in-law, Louise Herron and Dollie Mae Herron. Survivors include husband, Marvin Herron, Rock Port; daughters, Valerie Duncan and husband, Bruce, Rock Port, and Thea Knox and husband, David, Weston, Missouri; grandchildren, Talya Culbertson and husband, Sean, Ogden, Iowa, Eric Duncan, Rock Port, Karen Knox and David M. Knox, Weston, Missouri; three sisters, Janice Naiberk, Omaha, Nebraska, Myrna Whigham and husband, Keith, and Lois Schnegelberger, all of Ames, Iowa; brother-in-law, Gene Herron and wife, Kathy, Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hines, Charles W. "Shorty" - Charles W. "Shorty" Hines, 71, died Thursday, March 6, at the Bethesda Care Center in Tarkio.

Born at Mason City, Iowa, he moved to Atchison Countyin 1943 and was employed at the Rock Port Telephone Co. until he retired in 1978.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Hines of the home, whom he married in 1935; two daughters, Susie Shaw, Fairfax, and Faye Hines, Tarkio; six sons, Ronald Hines, Satanta, Ks, Charles Hines, Tarkio, Junior Hines, Sublette, Ks, Bill Hines, Liberal, Ks, Butch Hines, Scott City, Ks, and Jimmie Hines, Johnson, Ks; 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio with burial in the Tarkio Home Cemetery.

Husing, Don L. - Don L. Husing, Rock Port, Atchison county clerk, died at an Omaha, Nebr hospital Sunday following a brief illness. He was 61 years old. He had been the county clerk since 1962, and was not seeking another term.

He was born near Tarkio and attended the Rock Port schools and graduated from Rock Port high school in 1942.

He married the former Anna Waugh on Dec 17, 1942 and they are parents of two daughters.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Rock Port, was serving on the church council; a member of the Masonic Lodge No 157, AF & AM, Rock Port; Moila Temple Shrine, St Joseph; Missouri Association of Counties and the County Clerks Association. He was a former member of the Rock Port Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Walnut Art League; and past board member of the Rock Port Country Club.

Lee, Mary Lucille Cook - Mary Lucille Lee, the daughter of Elza Sylvester and Lillie Annis (Maness) Cook, was born April 23, 1924, in Watson, Missouri. She attended Watson and Rock Port, Missouri, schools.

On October 27, 1940, Mary was united in marriage to Charles Warren Lee at the home of Charles’ grandmother, Lucinda (Bare) Hixson Shandy’s home in Tarkio, Missouri. They made their home on the Lee Family Farm, in the Red Star area, northwest of Rock Port, and raised their three children, Carolyn, Charlene and Kenneth.

Mary was a stay at home mom, raising and caring for her family. Mary taught her children Christian values and how to pray. She would regularly tell them, “PUSH,” which means Pray Until Something Happens. Mary was an excellent artist who enjoyed creating oil paintings, especially on china plates and teacups for her family to enjoy. She loved to sew and made clothes for her family. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio and the Lover’s Lane China Painting Club in St. Joseph, Missouri. For many years, Mary was a Sunday school teacher and a Christ Ambassadors youth leader. Charles passed away January 25, 2004. Mary passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 91.

Besides her parents and husband, Charles, Mary was preceded in death by infant son, Charles Thomas Lee; granddaughter, Stacey Leighann (Lee) Nenneman; brother, Harold Cook and wife, Joan; infant brother, Howard Cook; infant sister, Dorothy; sisters, Clydia Perkins and Betty Lininger; sister-in-law, Nina Marie (Roberts) Cook; and brothers-in-law, Leo Driskell and Bill Turner. Larson, Donald James - Donald James Larson, the son of Keith and Hilda (Sharp) Larson, was born September 3, 1946, in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Watson High School, Watson, Missouri. Donald entered the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge January 19, 1968.

On October 30, 1970, Donald was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Morrison in Hamburg, Iowa. They made their home in Watson and became the parents of 4 children, Randall, Robert, Lisa and Derek. In 2014, they moved to the Fair Oaks Senior Housing in Rock Port, Missouri, where they lived to the present time.

From 1968-1970, Donald worked for Roy Case Farming. From 1971-1975, he worked for the United States Post Office in Hamburg, Iowa. From 1975-1985, Donald worked for Stanton Grain Company in Rock Port. From 1985 to April 2001, Donald was employed by Rock Port School as a bus driver and custodian.

Donald was a member of the Watson United Methodist Church. Donald passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Bryan LGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 69.

Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by two brothers, Doug and Drew Larson; and sister, Dixie Clark. Survivors include wife, Patricia Larson, Rock Port; children, Randall Larson, Omaha, Nebraska, Robert Larson and Lisa Larson, both of Hamburg, Iowa, and Derek Larson, Rock Port; five grandchildren, Ty, Kayleigh, Jace, Brynn, and Jakleigh; sister, Danna Cowden, Riverton, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leisman, Michael Raymond - Michael Raymond Leisman, the son of Robert Raymond and Helen Joyce (Slemp) Leisman, was born April 12, 1962 in Fairfax, Missouri. He graduated from Rock Port High School in 1980, where he earned the State Farmer award from Future Farmers of America. He attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri. He is the father of one daughter, Libby Ranae Leisman (Brandon) Lotter born in 1986, and the grandfather to three grandchildren, Jack Dempsey, Piper Ranae, and Harper Elaine Pearl, of Rock Port.

Mike established himself as a Rock Port farmer prior to joining the Rock Port Market family business. Mike was soon named manager of the store, a role he held for fifteen years. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and became involved in casino construction, subsequently moving to Omaha, Nebraska, where he joined the crew responsible for the building of the popular attraction, the Desert Dome, at the Henry Doorly Zoo. He then returned to the family business in Rock Port. In 2010, Mike started his own business as an over-the-road truck driver, purchased a semi and became the owner/operator of Mike Leisman Transportation, traveling the country providing goods to retailers much like his own hometown store. Mike passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 54.

Mike was a member of the Rock Port United Methodist Church and served the Rock Port Volunteer fire department for sixteen years. He enjoyed golfing and became an avid, accomplished and scratch golfer. He was a Shriner, a member of the Rock Port Country Club and a supporter of the Downtowner, another family business formerly owned by his own grandmother, Hallie Slemp.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Joyce (Slemp) Leisman, brother, Robert Mark Leisman, grandparents, Raymond and Lillie Leisman and Harold and Hallie Slemp, aunts, Bev (Jack) Eades and Jean (Robert) Ladd. Linthicum, Carrick Logan - Carrick Logan Linthicum, the son of Charles W. and Malisa (Groff) Linthicum, was born September 26, 1995, in Fairfax, Missouri. Carrick attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 2014. He attended Northwest Missouri State University for one year and was currently taking computer coding classes online.

While in high school, Carrick enjoyed participating in band, football, basketball and choir. Carrick was also a former member of the Scholar Bowl, Grace Church youth group and the Jesus Freaks youth group in Rock Port.

Carrick was a very talented musician who wrote his own music and loved playing the guitar as well as many other instruments. Carrick passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at his home in Rock Port at the age of 20.

Carrick was preceded in death by grandparents, Janice Groff and Carrol Linthicum; great-grandparents, Logan and Faye Maness, O.F. and Lena Groff, Clarence and Ella Jones and Carrick and Betty Linthicum; aunt, Vicki Klahn; and cousin, Eric Kerr. Lisle, Judy Jackson - Judy (Jackson) Lisle, the daughter of Lloyd Earl and Lela May (Tallant) Jackson was born October 9, 1943, in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended Phelps City and Rock Port, Missouri, schools. Judy was employed by Trails End in Rock Port for many years as a waitress until ill health forced her to stop working. In 1995, Judy earned her GED and began college at Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2001.

In 2007, Judy received Jesus as her LORD and Savior and was later baptized by Pastor Cornelius Schelling in July of that year. Judy was a member of the Grace Church and was active in numerous ministries. Judy passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at her home in Rock Port at the age of 72.

Besides her parents, Judy was preceded in death by siblings, Lloyd (Boise), Wilbur, Jack, Audley, Cletus and John Jackson, Edith Record, Leola Lewis, Sally Anderson, Lela Painter and Joan Humphreys. Mavity, William Henry - William Henry Mavity was born Feb 3, 1906 in Fairfax, Mo the son of William A. and Jessie Corwin Mavity. He passed away at the Cox Memorial Hospital North in Springfield, Mo on Sept 3, 1986 at the age of 80 years.

He spent his early years in the Fairfax area where he graduated valedictorian of his class at the Irish Grove School, class of 1923. He was an avid basketball player in high school.

In 1927 he was united in marriage to Juanita Whited of Tarkio. They made their home near Fairfax and operated a cafe in Rock Port until 1931. At that time he worked for Missouri Service in Tarkio. Moving to Chicago in 1934, he attended the Coyne Electrical School and received a degree in electrical engineering. He began work for Wilson & Company in Albert Lea, Minn. in 1935. He worked as chief electrician until his promotion in 1952 as head of the Department of Electrical and Refrigeration Engineering in the head office in Chicago. In 1971 he retired after having moved to Oklahoma City, Okla. Following his retirement they moved to Bentonville, Ark where they resided until Juanita passed away in 1981.

In 1982 he married Jessie Frohn. They made their home in Forsyth, Mo to the present time.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie, of the home in Forsyth; two sons; William J. Mavity of Minneapolis, Minn, and Robert Charles Mavity of Modesto, Calif; four grandchildren: Yolande, Kris, William Patrick and Anne; and one great grandchild, Claire Mavity.

Besides his parents and wife, Juanita, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jolie Claire Mavity; two brothers, Samuel and Charles Mavity.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Sept 6, 1986 at the Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio, conducted by Rev Fred Lawson. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.

Norma Mattson, the organist, accompanied Janice Pierce, soloist.

Pallbearers were Kris Mavity, Anne Mavity, Patrick Mavity, GaryFrohn, Harold Petznick and Roger Uptergrove.

Monk, Ruth Knepper - Ruth K. Monk, 90, Skidmore, MO died Friday, April 22, 2016, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Ruth was born December 12, 1925, at the family farm home, the only daughter of George G. and Bernice Linville Knepper. She attended grade and high school in the Daleview Consolidate/School District and was a member of the Class of '44, and Valedictorian. It was the last senior class to graduate from the Daleview High School. She went one year to Northwest Missouri State University and then entered nurse's training at Missouri Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph, MO, graduating in September 1948. She was united in marriage to Milo L. Monk, June 1, 1947, and to this union, two sons were born - Michael K. and James. P.

Ruth was active in nursing until mid-1960, when she and her family moved from St. Joseph to the family farm where she lived until her death. She was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, having joined the Corp. Fred Seifert Post Auxiliary #1668 in December, 1948, and was a continuous member until her death. She held the office of District VFW Auxiliary President for one and a half terms, the half term was to fill out the year after the resignation of the elected District President who had resigned. She held many other offices on the local, District and State levels. She and her husband were active members in Skidmore Chapter #402, Order of Eastern Star, where Ruth served two separate terms as Worthy Matron and one term as District Deputy Grand Matron, as well as many other offices in the chapter. She was still a member at the time of her death. She had also been a member of the Sew and Sew Club. She served on the Advisory Board of the Atchison-Holt County Family Guidance Center for over 25 years and until 1996 was secretary of the Family Guidance Center Advisory Board serving Atchison, Gentry, Holt, Nodaway and Worth Counties in Missouri. She was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church, Fairfax, Missouri, and had served on various church committees in late years as well as being the lay representative of that church to the annual Missouri West Church Conference for three years. She was the teacher for the 3M class at her church for a number of years.

Ruth was employed as a nursery aide at the Fairfax Community Hospital from September 16, 1993 until March 1, 2005, caring for over a thousand babies during that time, a position she enjoyed so very much.

She was an enthusiastic gardener, enjoying canning and freezing her garden produce, making jams and jellies - many that went as gifts to many friends through the years. Her favorite recreations were sewing, reading and family gatherings, particularly with her grandchildren. She was very fond of animals, always having a dog or two and one or more cats to keep her company.

Survivors include sons Mike (Pam) Monk, Skidmore and Jim Monk, Topeka, KS; granddaughter Kimberly Leigh Monk, Kansas City, MO and grandson, Scott Anthony Monk, Topeka, KS and several cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milo Monk (April 3, 1989) an only brother, 2nd Lt. Ralph L. Knepper, killed in action during World War II, and a premature infant son.

A Visitation will be Monday, from 7:00-8:00 PM at Price Funeral Home, Maryville and will be followed by O.E.S. Services, Rosanna Chapter #262.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Fairfax, MO United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Walkup's Grove Cemetery.

Nuckolls, Edith May Honeycutt - Edith May (Honeycutt) Nuckolls was born December 19, 1919 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of Harry M. and Zader May (Keith) Honeycutt. Her mother, Zader May, died at the age of 72 on May 15, 1972 at the Hand Community Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. Edith passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the age of 96 in her home in Watson, Missouri.

At the age of three Edith moved with her mother to Westboro, Missouri where her mother worked as a housekeeper for Charles A. “Sandy” Brown. Edith’s mother and Sandy later married. Edith grew up on the farm owned by Mr. Brown and attended school in Westboro and graduated high school in 1938. Edith was class Valedictorian and was awarded a scholarship to Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri. After graduating in 1941 with a two year teaching degree Edith taught at the Shiloh Country School in Polk Township and the Emporia Country School northeast of Westboro.

In 1943 Edith moved to Kansas City, Missouri to attend a radio operator school. She received a Radio Operator’s permit from the FCC in November of 1943. A radio operator, at that time, was the equivalent of our present day air traffic controller.

In December of 1943 she was hired as a radio operator by TWA in Winslow, Arizona. Edith later held radio operator positions in Burbank and Fresno, California before returning to Winslow.

It was while she was in Winslow that Edith met and married Kenneth Earl Myers on January 14, 1949. To this union was born four children; Sandra May, Monte Lewis, Clay Edward, and Judith Elaine. In 1959 the family moved to Essex, Iowa. In 1962 Edith and Kenneth divorced and Edith returned to Westboro and the farm where she grew up.

In 1972 Edith married Dale Woodrow Nuckolls. Edith and Dale lived on the farm until, due to health issues, she moved in to the Tarkio Rehabilitation Center and then into private care.
Besides her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband Dale W. Nuckolls.

Survivors include children Sandra M. Peters, Mill Spring, North Carolina, Monte L. Myers and Clay E. Myers both of Westboro, Missouri and Judith E. Myers of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Stepchildren Dale Lynne Ogden of Summerfield, North Carolina, Danny Nuckolls of Westboro, Missouri, Diane Nuckolls of Summerfield, North Carolina, Denise Davis of Oregon, Wisconsin. Grandchildren Brady Clay Myers of Richland, Washington and Erika May Peters of Leesburg, Virginia.

Also, Edith’s “Special Friend” and caregiver Marsha Meinders of Watson, Missouri. The family would like to express their overwhelming appreciation and gratitude to Marsha Meinders for the extraordinary care given to Edith in her later years and declining health.

Portis, Hermie Taylor - Mrs Hermie Portis was found dead at her home Monday by her grandson, Dave Portis who went by the home to check on her.

She was born south of Fairfax on Dec 12, 1895 the daughter of Gideon and Clara Williams Taylor and died at her home in Fairfax Nov 11, 1985.

On Sept 22, 1915 she was married to Harry E. Portis and they made their home on a farm southwest of Fairfax all their married life until 1953 when they moved to their home on East Street in Fairfax.

They were parents of two sons, B.F., Jr and Richard W.

Survivors include on son, Richard W. Portis of Evansville, Ind; one grandson, David Portis, Fairfax; one sister and one brother, Geraldine Graves and Lloyd Taylor, both of Fairfax.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov 13 at 2 o'clock at the Fairfax Prsbyterian church, conducted by Rev Blake Richter.

Prater, Cari Sue - Cari Sue Prater, the daughter of Richard and Connie (Brummett) Prater was born November 17, 1973, in Fairfax, Missouri. Cari graduated from Tarkio High School in 1992 and attended Cosmetology school in Kansas City, Missouri, and Shenandoah, Iowa.

In 1994, Cari was employed as a dispatcher for KAW Liquid Transport, a trucking company in Kansas City. In 2001, Cari was recruited and hired as a dispatcher by Wynne Transport and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. In early 2002, Cari was forced to end her employment due to Multiple Sclerosis and returned to Tarkio, where she lived to the present time. Cari passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at an Omaha, Nebraska, hospital at the age of 42.

Cari attended a Christian Church in Kansas City where she was baptized. After returning to Tarkio, Cari attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri, and was baptized by Rev. Pearson.

Cari was preceded in death by her grandparents. Survivors include her daughter, Catelyn Mackenzi Prater; parents, Richard and Connie Prater, all of Tarkio; sisters, Shaunna (Chad) Sjulin, and their children, Luke and Lilah Sjulin, Springfield, Nebraska, and Kelli (Justin) Wulff, and their children, Aniston and Langdon Wulff, Grain Valley, Missouri; and numerous cousins.

Pruett, Michael J. Sr - Michael James Pruett, Sr., the son of John, Sr. and Katherine (Moore) Pruett was born December 8, 1952, in East St. Louis, Illinois. He attended Central Hower High School in Akron, Ohio.

On July 20, 1973, Michael was united in marriage to Rose Marie Hudson in Akron. They were married 42 wonderful years. They became the parents of Michael James, Jr., Rusty Allen and Toni Renae.

Michael was employed as a local truck driver for ConAgra Foods in Hamburg, Iowa. He loved to fish and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Michael passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 63.

Schierkolk, Chester Charles - Chester Charles Schierkolk 79, Northglen, Colo., passed away June 25 at a Brighton, Colo hospital. He was born Jan 9, 1907 in Atchison County, the son of Frank and Mary (Bowers) Schierkolk, Chester and his sister Elsie were raised on the farm and attended the New Excelsior School near Langdon. They were baptized in the Langdon Lutheran Church.

On March 17, 1926 Chester was married to Yuma Harger of Rock Port at the Atchison County courthouse in Rock Port. They farmed and raised a family of five children. From 1941 until 1956 they worked on the Harold Luhrs farms south of Rock Port. Chester suffered a stroke in 1956 and had been in poor health since that time.

In 1965 they moved to Colorado to be near their children there. Frank has been a patient in three different nursing homes and several hospitals for the past 28 years.

Surviving are his wife Yuma, Northglen, Colo; daughter Oleta Chew, Denver, Colo; sons: Donald, Rock Port; Frank, Northglen, Colo; Chet, Hampton, NH; and Larry, Norfolk, Va. There are 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and his sister, Elsie Kasten.

Sharp, Lavonne Hopkins - Lavonne Sharp, age 76 of Riverton, IA passed away early Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, IA.

Lavonne was born Catherine Lavonne Sharp on April 17, 1939 in Shenandoah, IA; the daughter of Herschel and Alverna Priscilla (Illian) Hopkins.  She graduated from Riverton, IA High School in 1957.  

She was united in marriage to Irvin L. Sharp on January 26, 1958 in Tarkio, MO.  He preceded her in death in 1981.  Lavonne owned and operated a daycare in Riverton for many years and took care of numerous children
during that time.

Lavonne loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.  She liked to spend time at the café in Riverton, where she could enjoy coffee and visiting with friends.  She also enjoyed reading, but her greatest love was spending time with family.  

She is survived by her children:  Cindy Marie Mack and husband Mike of Archer, NE; Douglas Eugene Sharp of Albion, NE; seven grandchildren:  Traci Payer and husband Clay of Wagner, SD; Mike Mack, Jr. and wife Sherry of Archer, NE; Troy Mack and wife Amber of Archer, NE; James Mack of Archer, NE; Kevin Mack and wife Jennifer of Cortland, NE; Brenda Mack of Milford, NE and Melissa Lile and husband Keith of Milford, NE; two great-grandchildren:  Catherine Joree Payer and Clara Jameslee Payer and numerous other step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Caroline Hopkins of Riverton, IA; brother-in-law Lloyd Brown of Tarkio, MO; brothers and sisters-in-law:  Janie Harding, Velma Wilson, Clara Lynn, Maurice Sharp, C.D. Sharp and wife Mary Frances and Jean Sharp; other family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Irvin, Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Cathy Lea Arehart; brother Robert Hopkins and sister Leola Brown.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Shull-Gude Funeral Home in Riverton, IA.  Burial will follow the services at High Creek Cemetery in Watson, MO.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening (3/25) at the funeral home in Riverton.

Sickman, Helen Louise - Helen Louise Sickman, was born on September 1, 1930 at the family farm in Fremont, County, Iowa and entered into eternal rest at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa on Saturday, August 6, 2016 , at the age of 85 years, 11 months , 5 days. Helen was the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Laumann) Sickman, she was the third child of four to this marriage.
Her mother died when Helen was 6 years old. She attended Hillsdale rural school through the 8th grade. Then granting her father's wishes, she stayed with him on the farm, instead of attending high school. She kept house, raised chickens and a big garden, plus chores that would come up on the farm.
When her father died in 1981, she bought a car, and a home at 507 South Avenue in Shenandoah and went to work in the kitchen at the American Legion Country Club, working their until it changed management.

She volunteered for many years at Garden View Care Center helping in any way she could. Helen enjoyed yard work and raising flowers, painting, craft work, going to household sales collecting those items that she would enjoy. She was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church, being confirmed in 1943, the first confirmation class in the new church.

In 1991 Helen's health began to fail and on July 2, 2003 she entered Garden View Care Center where she would live the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wilbur and his wife Helen, Walter and his wife Garnet, and a sister, Wilma ( Mrs. Richard Youngberg).

Survivors include, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Westboro, Missouri.

Simmons, Aaron - Services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct 12 at the Fairfax Baptist church for Aaron Simmons of Fairfax, conducted by Rev Chuck Watson and assisted by Rev Donald Momberg. Interment was in English Grove Cemetery, west of Fairfax.

Mrs Dale Grubb was in charge of music and she accompanied Mrs Marion Pierce who sang "How Great ThouArt: and "Stars in My Crown."

William Aaron Simmongs was born at Stockton, Mo, Aug 4, 1896 the son of Robert Green Simmons and Leona Bell Turner Simmons and died at the Fairfax hospital at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 6 days.

He grew up in the Ava, Mo area in south Missouri and attended the Excelsior School there.

On Dec 31, 1922 he married Frances Strong at Hilo and they made their home in the Ava area where he farmed. They were parents of four children, Norman, Jimmie Eugene, Lorane and Annabelle.

He serviced in the U.S. Army in World War I.

The family lived in the Ava area until 1944 when they moved to Fairfax where Aaron farmed. In 1960 he moved from the farm into town and then the first of this year he went to the Pleasant View Rest Home to make his home.

He and his wife became active and faithful workers in the Fairfax Baptist church when they moved to this area. Aaron was ordained as a deacon in the church on June 28, 1949 and served faithfully up until the time of his last illness. He was also a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir in his younger days. In later years he became the financial secretary assistant, usher and collected the offering, rang the church bell each Sunday and faithfully greeted all at the church door on Sunday mornings. He occupied a certain area in the church, and anytime the church was open, Aaron was there to assist in some capacity until his health failed several months ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Jimmie; one brother and two sisters, Tom Simmons, Florence Dye and Mary Shelton.

Survivors include the son and two daughters: Norman Simmons, Fairfax; Mrs Lorane Butcher and Mrs Annabelle Combs, both of Ozark, Mo; one brother and two sisters: George Simmons, Augusta, Ill; Dora Workman, Nampa, Idaho; Ethel Strong, Ava; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Southard, Karon Gene Clark Moore - Karon Gene Southard, the daughter of William Nathaniel and Barbara Inez (Dolph) Clark was born November 29, 1942, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She attended West Nodaway High School in Burlington Junction, graduating in 1961.

She was united in marriage to Melvin Moore and they became the parents of two sons, Melvin James Moore and Greg Scott Moore. They later divorced. On December 12, 1980, Karon was united in marriage to Marvin Southard. Karon made her home in Tarkio from 1962 to the present time.

Karon was employed at Tarkio College for several years in the cafeteria and worked in food service at the Tarkio nursing home. Karon also worked at the Rock Port Motel in Rock Port, Missouri, and then for Northwest Missouri Industries in Rock Port. Karon found it very rewarding in her position at Northwest Missouri Industries and retired in 2011.

Karon loved gardening and do-it-yourself projects. She adored all of her family and loved running around and spending time with them. Karon was a member of the First Christian Church in Tarkio and the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 199, Tarkio. Karon passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 73.

Besides her parents, Karon was preceded in death by brother, Darrell Clark; and sister, Sharon Hamilton. Survivors include husband, Marvin Southard; sons, Melvin James Moore and wife, Sally, and Greg Scott Moore and wife, Laura Kay; grandchildren, Ashley (Josh Hinrichs) Moore, Payton Taylor and husband, Elijah, Paige (Dakota Wooten) Moore, Amanda Smith, Otis Smith, Travis (Ashley Alsup) Smith; great-grandchildren, Brayden Smith, Tavyn Smith, Kayanna Diez, Gavin Fruit, Logan Fruit, Mikayla Smith and Zachery Sapp; sisters, Dianne Hayes and Janice Beggs; sister-in-law, Sandra Clark; brothers-in-law, Jeff Beggs and Harry Hamilton.

Stevenson, John Cleland - John Cleland Stevenson, an engineer who worked on projects as diverse as the space shuttle program and the BART system in San Francisco, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in Lakewood, Colorado. John was 83.

John grew up on a farm in Tarkio, Missouri, halfway between Kansas City and Omaha, but he had a passion for travel and adventure. He lived for two years in Shiraz, Iran, working on a U.S. joint project before the fall of the Shah. After graduating from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, he attended college at the School of Mines in Rapid City, South Dakota. His mechanical engineering degree gained him a role working at IBM at the dawn of the computer age. He served as a critical specialist in the U.S. Army. He worked on the minuteman missile program and later on the B1-B long range bomber program.

Throughout his life, John was fascinated with the outdoors and beautiful, often uninhabited, locations. He photographed these locations and their wildlife. His images were published by Animals Animals of New York City and appeared in various publications such as Smithsonian Magazine.

John met Jo-Anne Marie Hickman, his future wife, in Boulder, Colorado, in 1953, but married her later in 1974. Together they traveled the world, including the time working in Iran, but also journeys to the UK, Thailand, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and various points in the United States.

As an engineer with a curious mind and a knack for language, John was also an inventor and a storyteller. In the late eighties, he patented a method to reduce the Atkinson cycle to practical use in automobile engines. The patent expired, but unbeknownst to John, the same technology was emerging in production models and has now become commonplace powering over one million vehicles on the road. Throughout his life, he documented his family history and his travels in unpublished essays and books that remain with the family.

John is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne Marie, and his children, Debra Anne Edwards with her husband, William James Edwards, Robert John Broughton, Judith Marie Broughton, and John Peter Stevenson with his wife, Siejen Yin Stevenson, and his grandchildren, Christine Marie Edwards Stewart with her husband Andrzej Matthew Stewart, Lindsey Joanne Edwards, William Michael Edwards, Andrew John Edwards, and John Robert Stevenson, and his great-grandchild, Austin James Stewart. He had one nephew, two nieces, and numerous cousins. John's sister, Caroline Stevenson Beebe, pre-deceased John, as did his parents, John Marshall and Catherine Polley Stevenson.

Thompson, James Edward "Jim" - James Edward Thompson was born Jan 12, 1922 in Pleasant Hope, Mo the son of Thomas and Oma Inez Kerr Thompson. He passed away at his home in Kansas City, Mo on Aug 27, 1986 at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 15 days.

In 1930 he came to the Fairfax community with his family and attended the Fairfax schools. He later worked in the Fairfax area and was employed as a truck driver.

In 1942 he was united in marriage to Theo Fern Allison and to this union two daughters, Judy and Nancy were born.

On Nov 23, 1942 he entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge on Jan 8, 1946 he returned to Fairfax and worked for Stoner Welding. For two years he lived and worked in Kansas City for General Motors, returning to Fairfax in 1952 where he began work as a mason and bricklayer for Wilbert Dunmire. He continued this work until his retirement in 1983 and had moved to Kansas City several years ago.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs Judy Dixon of Kansas City, Ks; and Mrs Dennis (Nancy) Bartles of Rock Port; two sisters and one brother, Mrs John (Vera) Armstrong, Hamburg, Ia; Mrs Maude Norton, Fairfax; Delmar Thompson, Rock Port; three grandchildren and one great grandson.

Besides his parents and wife, Theo, who died in Dec 1964, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Walker, Kenneth Kay - Kenneth Kay Walker, son of Arville O. and Mildred K. Walker, was born in Langdon, Missouri, on September 7, 1936. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended Langdon and Rock Port schools, graduating in May 1954 and entered the United States Air Force at 17, serving his country for four years during the Korean Conflict. He was trained as an Airway Operations Specialist, and was honorably discharged in May, 1958.

Ken met Pat while she was on a visit to Rock Port that same month. He was building grain bins and awaiting acceptance to Federal Aviation School in Oklahoma City. Ken entered Northwest Missouri State at Maryville, continuing a courtship with Pat by train from Kansas City.

Ken received the appointment to report to Air Traffic Control School. They married in October 1958 and honeymooned at Oklahoma City. After graduation, the Federal Aviation Agency assigned him to Midtown Airport in Kansas City, where their first son, Jeffrey Scott, was born in December 1959.

When the stress of Air Traffic Control became a health issue, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky, for employment at Bob Kelley Foods. During that time, their second son, Michael Kevin, arrived in February 1961. Homesick for Rock Port, they returned, and Ken joined Jones and Melvin Lumber Company. They welcomed a daughter, Cynthia Kay, in March, 1962. Ken then worked at Kline Truck and Tractor as Bookkeeper until they closed.

Ken then worked at Bennington Chevrolet, Standard Oil, Oakview Construction, MBPXL, and Rolf Fertilizer. He retired from the United States Postal Service due to declining health from a brain tumor in 1984.

Ken had a great appreciation of nature. He was happiest when he could be out in it: early days hunting and fishing with his Dad, fishing, trapping and goose hunting at Swan Lake with his sons, family vacations, hiking and mushroom hunting, trout fishing in the Ozarks, horse racing around the country. Ken was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan.

In later years, travel to Maine in the summers and winter trips to Florida were a highlight. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments. He marveled at granddaughter, Shannon Nichole Burton, when she graduated with her Doctor of Physical Therapy. He was promised a grandson to carry the Walker legacy and welcomed Olin Michael Walker. And he was amazed again at the blessing of another granddaughter, Natalie Grace Walker.

Ill health followed in 2012 after 2 major surgeries and numerous strokes, the inability to converse and limited mobility. Ken never lost his good humor or willingness to try. More importantly, he kept the faith. He was the epitome of grace, courage and humility. His Spirit will always be with us. Ken passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at his home in Rock Port at the age of 79.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, A.J. Barnhart and Dick Garst. Wallace, Royce Anne Broermann - Royce Anne (Broermann) Wallace, the daughter of Harry and Neva (Alexander) Broermann was born March 15, 1945 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Royce Anne graduated from Tarkio High School in 1963 and was awarded the “Alumni Of The Year” in 1990. Royce Anne attended Nursing school and was later employed by Mutual of Omaha.

On September 21, 1964 Royce Anne was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Wallace, and they became the parents of four children, Kelley, Kevin, Kurt and Kris.

Royce Anne was a stay at home mom until her children were in school. She then was employed for Casey's for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling to and from sporting events with her children and grandchildren. Royce Anne was involved with the Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA) as the Head Score Keeper for 15 years and attended several CABA National meetings. Royce Anne loved to sew. She made baby blankets for all the grandchildren and had started on blankets for the great grandchildren. Royce Anne passed away July 5, 2016 at a Bellevue Nebraska hospital at the age of 71.

Beside her parents Royce Anne was preceded in death by one brother Gordon Broermann. Survivors include her husband, Bob Wallace, Shenandoah, Iowa; children, Kelley (Derrick) Madron and Kevin Wallace, both of Tarkio, Kurt Wallace of Omaha, Nebraska and Kris (Jeremy) Wise of College Springs, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two step grandchildren; brother, Gregg (Elaine) Broermann, Shenandoah; aunts, Wilma Vette, Tarkio and Dorothy Edwards, Texas; numerous, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to many to name that called her mom, nanny, or grandma.

Wessler, Shirley Mae Barnhart - Shirley Mae Wessler the daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Carder) Barnhart was born April 5, 1935 in Rock Port, Missouri. She graduated from Rock Port High School in 1953.

On September 19, 1953 Shirley was united-in-marriage to Clarence (Tim) Wessler at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, by Rev. Frederick C. Nolte. They made their home on the Wessler family farm and became the parents of two daughters, Lesa and Deon. In 1959 they moved to Rock Port and continued farming in the Watson-Rock Port area. In the early 1990’s they moved just east of Rock Port where Shirley lived at the present time. Tim passed away June 10, 2004. Shirley passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 at a care facility in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 81.

Shirley loved music and sang in many weddings and funerals. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Port and served as director of the Adult and Confirmation Choir, and Bible School music director and held offices in W.E.L.C.A. She was a member and enjoyed singing for Eastern Star, Sweet Adeline’s and Cosmopolitan Clubs. She was also a 4-H Leader and a member of the Metropolitan Singers and volunteered many years for hospice. She enjoyed playing Bridge and belonged to many Bridge Clubs. However her greatest joy was spending time with her family, specifically her daughters and granddaughters and attending their sporting events.

Shirley and Tim were blessed to have enjoyed many cruises with dear friends and traveled too several parts of the world, including the Panama Canal and Hawaii. Her family also enjoyed many summer vacations together and weekends at Big Lake.

Besides her parents and husband Tim, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter Deon Starman, sister, Cassalou Stanton, brother-in-law, Robert Lee Stanton, brother-in-law, Paul Wessler and sisters-in-law, Lillian Thiesfeld and Edna Carlson. Survivors include, daughter, Lesa McCartney and her husband Jack, Kirksville; granddaughters, Kinsey McCartney, Menlo Park, California, Courtney Gerster and her husband Mark, Colorado Springs, Colorado and great grandson, Emmett Gerster; Sisters-in-law, Pat Wessler, Tarkio and Doris Ann Stanton, Rock Port; former son-in-law, David Starman; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Edie Beasing, Sharon Hughes and Mary Finnell; Shirley’s care giver, Michelle Pfeil, and a host of friends.

Yost, Billy Dean - Billy Dean Yost was born Feb. 18, 1932 to Paul and Leona (Ingram) Yost in Nebraska City, Neb. He graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1949.
In 1954 he married Jean E. Humann in Des Moines, Iowa. Billy worked as a technical foreman for American Meter Company. He also served in the National Guard for 11 years.
Billy passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at his daughter's Rock Port, Missouri home at the age of 84.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Conrad; sister, Helen Marie Miller; and maternal grandmother, Eva Ingram.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Rock Port; sons, Dennis Yost of Tulsa, Okla., and Gregory (Dianna) Yost of Nebraska City; daughter, Sally (Harvey) Hurst of Rock Port; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Billy D. Yost was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on February 18, 1932. He was one of three children of Paul and Leona (Ingram) Yost.

Billy worked for American Meter in Nebraska City for many years. He also served in the National Guard for 11 years.

He married Jean Humann in 1954, and they became parents of three children.

Billy passed away at the home of his daughter on July 1, 2016 at the age of 84.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Conrad; sister, Helen Miller; and maternal grandmother, Eva Ingram.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean, of Rock Port; sons Dennis of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Gregory (Dianna) of Nebraska City, Nebraska; daughter, Sally (Harvey) Hurst, Rock Port; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bob Scroggins.

Billy was a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion and Elks Club. He was an avid Nebraska fan, and enjoyed golf and fishing.

Memorial services: Saturday, July 9, 2016, 2:30 pm, Watson Baptist Church. Memorials: National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Watson Baptist Church food pantry. Family will greet friends after the services with a luncheon at his daughter Sally Hurst's home in Rock Port.

Youel, Ruth Price - Mrs Ruth Price Youel, 92, a former Fairfax resident, died Saturday, March 8, at a Mound City health care center.

Mrs Youel was born November 11, 1893, south of Fairfax. On September 16, 1914 she was married to Eugene F. Youel and they celebrated their 50th anniversary September 1964. Mr Youel preceded her in death on Feb 28, 1967.

She was a member of the Fairfax Presbyterian church, Fairfax Garden Club, the Tamasha Club and D.A.R.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Crockett, Mound City and Virginia Bozarth, Modesto, California; two grandchildren, Stan Crockett, Mound City and Sue Schooler, Fairfax. Three great-grandchildren also survive as do several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Fairfax Monday afternoon with Rev Blake Richter officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax.
