Avrett, Mary Ann Bailey - Mary Ann Avrett, the daughter of William Donald, Sr. and Mary Margaret (Tallant) Bailey was born February 20, 1941, in Phelps City, Missouri. She attended school in Phelps City and Rock Port, Missouri, Brownville and Lincoln, Nebraska, and Abilene, Texas.

On May 16, 1957, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Horace Franklin Avrett in Abilene, Texas, and they became the parents of two children, Mary Elizabeth and Michael Lynn. They returned to the Atchison County, Missouri area in 1972. Mary Ann helped care for terminally ill patients in their homes. She was the first licensed hospice aide in Abilene and cared for numerous people in Atchison County and Hamburg, Iowa. She cooked in the Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, until Horace’s illness required her fulltime care. Horace passed away in December 2003. Mary Ann passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 74.

Mary Ann considered her family to be most important in her life, especially her nine great-grandchildren whom could do no wrong. She enjoyed reading, quilting and baking.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include; children, Mary Elizabeth Rhoades and her husband, David, Michael Lynn Avrett, all of Fairfax; grandchildren, Amy JoAnn (Raymond, Jr.) Gebhards, Tarkio, Missouri, Tasha Nichole Quimby, Maryville, Missouri, Christopher Franklin (Bonnie) Avrett, Tarkio, Dusty Lee Rhoades, Fairfax, and Joseph Lee (Mandy) Rhoades, Fairfax; great-grandchildren, Kiersten Nichole Quimby, Madison Danielle Quattrocchi, Emily JoAnn Gebhards, Alyssa Lynn Quimby, Luke David Gebhards, Kelsey Ann Avrett, Katherine Mae Avrett, Jenna LeAnn Gebhards and Hunter David Rhoades; three brothers and four sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barnes, Kenneth Dwain - Kenneth Dwain Barnes, the son of Olin and Chrystal (Akin) Barnes, was born August 4, 1931 on the Griffin Farm southeast of Westboro, MO. He passed into eternal life on December 28, 2015 at the Tarkio Rehabilitation Center in Tarkio, Missouri.
Kenneth attended the North Star School for eight years; he and his sister Bonnie rode a horse to school every day. Several of the years at North Star, Kenneth, Bonnie and Lois Macrander made up the entire student body. After North Star, he attended Westboro High School where he excelled in football, and graduated in the class of 1949. After high school, Kenneth attended Northwest Normal School in Maryville, MO. He left college in 1951 to enlist in the USMC, in part, he always said, so that he wouldn’t have to help his dad build fence. Enlisting together in the USMC with Kenneth were Harry Hamilton, Lee Eddy Stevens, Don Noble and Bob Campbell. These five men forged a lifelong relationship; gathering every year for their “Marine Reunion.” Harry, Lee Eddy and Don now survive.
In 1953, on a leave from the USMC, Kenneth was joined in marriage with Carol Adele Meyer, one of his classmates from Westboro High School. Carol was patient with the USMC, as their wedding date had to be set back several times when Kenneth’s leave did not come through. Finally, on January 3, 1953, they were married at Locust Grove Methodist Church near Shenandoah. They were newlyweds and lived in Laguna Beach, CA while Kenneth served his country. Kenneth was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, after serving overseas in the Korean War.
Upon his discharge in 1954, Kenneth and Carol returned to Westboro to start farming and begin their family. He began farming the Lester Ebert farm in the North Star district, later moving to the Olin Barnes farm between Westboro and Elmo. In 1970, Kenneth and Carol built a house on their farm two miles east of Westboro. He lived on this farm the rest of his life, with the exception of the last few months spent at Tarkio Rehabilitation Center in Tarkio.
Kenneth was a fun person. His sharp wit and storytelling abilities brought laughter to everyone around him. He enjoyed life at every stage. He especially loved kids and their activities. He coached Little League for several years, once driving fifteen Little Leaguers to an away game in his station wagon. Summer vacations were often spent with the Bill Akin (Kenneth’s uncle) family in Minnesota to fish, ski and swim. He planned the vacations to start by driving all night with kids sleeping in the family car as to not waste a day of vacation traveling. He loved the water and passed that love on to his children and grandchildren. It was very important to him that his kids and grandchildren became excellent swimmers and would ask about their progress in this area.
Later in life, after retirement, Kenneth enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing in his pond. Most of all, he and Carol enjoyed having any and all of their eleven grandchildren over to their home for various adventures and festivities – one of his favorites being the 4th of July celebration which brought his love of country, fun and family together every year. Whatever the occasion, the grandchildren always enjoyed special treats prepared by Grandpa: “real” popcorn, his homemade fudge, ice cream, dried apples and the ever overflowing candy drawer. He will be missed.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Curtis W. Barnes in 1954.
Surviving Kenneth are his wife of almost 63 years (on January 3, 2016), Carol; sister, Bonnie Sharp and husband, Maurice, Tacoma, Washington; son, Tracy and wife, Holly of Fairfax, Missouri; son Kirby and wife Ana of Indianapolis, Indiana; son Joel of Westboro, Missouri; son Rod of Richmond, Virginia and daughter Colette Maelzer and husband, Kevin of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren: Dustin Barnes and wife Erica; Kelly Pruitt and husband Matt; Spencer Barnes and wife Lindsey; Jase Barnes; Goldie Barnes; Mitchell Barnes; Kaleb Maelzer; Matthew Barnes; Nathan Barnes; Jacob Maelzer and Alexa Barnes; and great-granddaughter, Aislyn Barnes; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Baruth, Jack L. - Jack L. Baruth, the son of Dewey and Faye (Nason) Baruth, was born June 8, 1923, in Alexandria, Nebraska. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1941.

Jack then traveled to California on the train with his parents and sisters to visit his mother’s parents, Rex and Ora Nason. While in California, he obtained a job at Lockheed Aircraft as a machinist. Jack’s parents and sisters returned to Nebraska.

In October of 1942, Jack joined the United States Army Air Corp and was shipped overseas in July of 1944. He took part in the Northern France Campaign and while in the service, Jack was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Jack received Airplane Mechanic training in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Propeller Specialist training at Chanute Field near Rantoul, Illinois. When the war ended, Jack returned to the United States and was honorably discharged in November of 1945.

Jack then attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, for two years. He decided he wanted to become a radio announcer and answered an ad in the Omaha World Herald to attend a radio announcer school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following school, he worked most of his life in Radio Broadcasting as an Engineer, Announcer, News Director and Program Director. Jack’s first radio job was in 1948 at WGVM in Greenville, Mississippi. Others radio stations included KUDL (Kansas City), KOOO (Omaha) and KNDY (Marysville, Kansas.)

On April 18, 1954, Jack was united in marriage to Wilma Frances Baldwin in La Cyne, Kansas. They became the parents of three sons, Kenneth Franklin Baruth, Scott Douglas Baruth and Weston Lowell Baruth.

Following his radio announcing career, Jack became a trucker. He worked for Midwest Refrigerated Express in Omaha, Nebraska, from June 1973 to January 1975; United Parcel Service in Beatrice, Nebraska, from January 1975 to September 1978, and Consolidated Freightways until September 1989. Jack passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Beatrice, Nebraska, at the age of 92.

Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma. Survivors include sons, Kenneth Baruth, Nagoya, Japan, Scott Baruth, Manhattan, Kansas, and Weston Baruth, Tarkio, Missouri; grandchildren, Shaun Baruth, Seoul, South Korea, Tristan Baruth and Makayla Baruth, both of Manhattan, Alexandra Baruth, Honolulu, Hawaii, Anthony Baruth and Austin Baruth, both of Tarkio, Andrew Baruth, Lusby, Maryland, Lauren Baruth Stromberg, Lawrence, Kansas, and Rachael Baruth, Kansas City; step-grandson, Bryce Reid; two great-grandsons, Raiden and Tiberius Baruth; sisters, Phyllis York, Holland, Michigan, and Garnet Cox, Beatrice.

Bowers, John W. II - John Wesley Bowers II, the son of John Wesley (Jake) I and Carolyn Louise (McAfee) Bowers was born March 13, 1953, in Fairfax, Missouri. He attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 1971. On July 16, 1971, John entered the United States Army where he worked as an electrician and in the transportation battalion. John received his honorable discharge June 14, 1973, and returned to Atchison County, Missouri.

In September 1978, John was united in marriage to Patricia (Harrington) Roberts. To this union, Michelle was born and he became a stepfather to Patricia’s sons, Billy Joe and Jim Roberts. They later divorced. Later, he was united in marriage to Victoria Molthan and was a close stepfather to Victoria’s son, Shane Molthan, and step-grandfather to his three children, Trysta, Tabyne and Dalton. They later divorced.

John was an over-the-road truck driver, hauling agricultural goods until retiring in 2012. He enjoyed attending auctions, spending time with friends and buying cars, to refurbish and resell. He especially loved Chevy pickups and knew everyone by what vehicle they drove. John passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Bryan LGH East, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 62.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by nephew, Michael Bowers and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include daughter, Michelle Graham and husband, Phil, Fairfax, and their daughter, Carley; brothers, Allen Bowers and wife, Pam, St. Joseph, Missouri, Jay Bowers and wife, Connie, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Russell Bowers, Sidney, Iowa; niece and nephew, Shelby and Mark; and godchild, Jayme Koop.

Brown, Larry L. - Larry L. Brown, the son of Loren and Edwyna (Graham) Brown was born July 15, 1946 in Maryville, Missouri. Larry graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri in 1964. He immediately entered the United States Marine Corps and served his country for six years during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge Larry returned to Tarkio and was employed by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff.

On January 29, 1982, Larry was united in marriage to Diana Moulder in Rock Port, Missouri, and they became the parents of one son, Matt. They later divorced.

Larry then became employed as an over the road truck driver, traveling through all 48 states and Canada. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with friends, as well as golfing, shooting and watching John Wayne westerns. Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tarkio, the Moila Temple Shrine, Saint Joseph, Missouri and former member of the Tarkio Masonic Lodge and Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio. Larry passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Select Specialty Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 69.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents. Clark, Kent M. - Kent M. Clark, the son of Lona Ray and Louella Mabel (Sloan) Clark, was born July 22, 1939, in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Tarkio High School, graduating in 1957. Kent also attended one and a half years of college at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri, and one and a half years at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.

On December 9, 1966, Kent was united in marriage to Karen Smith at the Tarkio Assembly of God Church. They made their home in the Tarkio area their entire married life and became the parents of two sons, Kevin Ray and Kurtis William.

Kent farmed and trucked for 13 years and then was employed by Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa, for 28 years until retirement. He was a very active member of the Tarkio First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, financial secretary, on the corporate board, the pastor search committee and a Sunday school teacher. He and Karen served on a Lay Renewal Team for several years. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and loved working on old Farmall tractors. Kent passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 76.

Besides his parents, Kent was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Alice Clark and Shirley Louella Carlisle and brother, Kim Douglas Clark. Survivors include his wife, Karen, Tarkio; sons, Kevin Clark and wife, Twilla, and their daughter, Lauren, and Kurtis Clark and wife, Lori, all of Tarkio; brothers, Philip Clark and wife, Roberta, Tarkio, and William Ray Clark and wife, Anna, Belton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Judy Clark, Tarkio; brother-in-law, Howard Andrew Carlisle, Tarkio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deering, Ima Jean Riley - Ima Jean Deering, the daughter of Willard Frank and Dolly Luena (Hicks) Riley, was born April 11, 1930, in Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Morning Star and London country schools, Tarkio, Missouri.

On May 27, 1946, Ima was united in marriage to Harmon Shields Deering in Atchison, Kansas. They made their home in rural Tarkio and became the parents of one son, Harmon, Jr.

Ima Jean was employed at Curly’s Big Dipper in Tarkio, Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port and helped Harmon on the farm. Harmon passed away August 7, 2010. Ima Jean passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 85.

Ima Jean was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio and was a former leader of the young girls group, The Missionette’s.

Besides her parents and husband, Ima Jean was preceded in death by brother, Willard Riley, Jr.; and sister, Gladie Lois Thacker. Freeman, Larry G. - Larry G. Freeman, 71, of Smithville, Missouri formerly of Carrollton and Tarkio, Missouri passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, February 27, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Larry was born on December 31, 1944 to Vivian and Gladys (Ivy) Freeman. He graduated from Tarkio High School in 1962. He went on to attend Tarkio College and Northwest Missouri State University. Larry served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. During 1967 he had a tour of duty in Vietnam as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division. On July 9, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Karen Freeman.

He had a successful banking career for 45 years. He began his career at the First National Bank in Tarkio, Missouri from 1970 to 1979. From 1979 to 1985 he was employed at the Pender State Bank, Pender, Nebraska. In 1985 he began working at the Carroll County Trust Company until he retired December 31, 2010 having served as CEO and President. He remained on the Board of Directors as Chairman until December 2014.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and attending grandchildrens' activities. He also enjoyed going pheasant hunting and taking his grandsons youth deer hunting. In his younger years he enjoyed riding horses, especially Libbey, who he raised and trained from a colt. Larry had a strong agricultural background. He managed several farms in his lifetime. Most recently he was actively engaged in the family farm operation at Fairfax, Missouri. Larry was a member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church and had served in many capacities.

Larry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Freeman of the home, two children, Jeff Freeman and Lauren Johnson, fiancée of Gower, Missouri and Eric and Jana Stevens of Kearney, Missouri. He was known as "Gump" to his three grandchildren, Jacob, Madisyn and Caleb Stevens and future grandchildren, Trey and Brooklynn Johnson. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Marvin and Janice Freeman, Rock Port, Missouri and Stan and Sandra Freeman, Tarkio; his mother-in-law, Lorena Freeman and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Hedrick, of Omaha, Nebraska and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Wayne Freeman; and his sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Shirley Fischer.

Gebhards, Betty Jayne Amthor - Betty Jayne Gebhards, the daughter of Robert R. and Mary “Marie” Eva (Stacy) Amthor was born April 23, 1924, near Rock Port, Missouri. She was the youngest of three children. Betty Jayne attended Red Star School and Rock Port High School, graduating in 1941.

While home on furlough, Betty Jayne was united in marriage to Herbert J. Gebhards on December 30, 1942, at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port, by Rev. D. L. McConnell. While Herb was serving his country in the United States Army, they lived in Walla Walla, Washington, and Boise, Idaho. Herb received his honorable discharge in 1945 and they returned to Rock Port.

When they returned home, they began farming northeast of Rock Port and they became the parents of two children, Diane and Gary. In 1970, they moved into Rock Port. Herb passed away October 29, 1998.

Betty Jayne was employed by Clayton Allen as a secretary, worked at the Courthouse in the Atchison County Collector’s office and then went to work at the Citizen’s Bank and Trust in Rock Port. Betty Jayne’s family meant everything to her. She was so proud of each and every one of them and made every effort to attend all of their events and activities. She enjoyed watching sports, traveling and seeing the countryside.

Betty Jayne was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, where she taught a Sunday School class of young children for several years. Betty Jayne passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 91.

Besides her parents and husband, Betty Jayne was preceded in death by infant brother, Robert Eugene Amthor; and sister, Virginia Lea Ottmann. Survivors include daughter, Diane Boatman and husband, Tom; son, Gary Gebhards and wife, Jacque Gayle, all of Rock Port; three grandsons, Randy Boatman, Tad Gebhards and Tyler Gebhards; three granddaughters, Marcy Ingram, Cary Burch and Tawni Ellis; fourteen great-grandchildren, Tanner and Tori Ingram, Jordan and Hunter Burch, Wil, Shae and Sophia Boatman, Carter and Karlie Gebhards, Will and Grant Gebhards, and Reid, Logan and Ali Ellis.

Halliday, David F. - David F. Halliday, the son of Robert Earl and Elise (Nolte) Halliday, was born July 4, 1923, on the home place outside of Tarkio, Missouri. He attended and graduated from Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri.

On January 4, 1948, David was united in marriage to Bernice Rose Christensen in Onawa, Iowa. They made their home on the Halliday family farm their entire married life and became the parents of four daughters. Bernice passed away June 11, 2007.

David farmed in the Farmer’s City area, harvesting corn, soybeans and hay. He also produced hogs for a number of years and cared for a variety of farm animals. David was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri, and was a former church councilman. He enjoyed reading farm magazines and working on machinery to keep the farm running. David passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 92.

Besides his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by daughter, Linda Humphrey; one grandson, Jason Sundermann; brother, Richard Halliday; and two sons-in-law, Jerry Humphrey and D.A. Sundermann. Hines, Sharon K. - Sharon Kay Hines, the daughter of John Henry and Audrey Leona (Ward) Fahseler, was born July 25, 1941, in Watson, Missouri. She attended Watson and Rock Port, Missouri, schools.

On June 20, 1982, Sharon was united in marriage to Billy Dean Hines in Sublette, Kansas. They made their home in Liberal, Kansas, and Tarkio, Missouri, where they lived to the present time.

Sharon has worked building fence with Norvele Harris for seven years, as a waitress at a Hamburg, Iowa, café, Tumble Inn as a cook and Henry Fields Seed and Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa. She also worked at Gibson Retail Store and tended bar and worked as a maid at Best Western Motel in Liberal. In 1990, she moved back to Tarkio and began driving a truck in 1992, hauling bulk mail to the east coast and bringing back freight. Sharon retired from the trucking industry in 2002. Sharon passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at her home in Tarkio at the age of 74.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. Mary Kay attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri for one year. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Mary Kay then attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri earning a Master's degree in Special Education.

In 1958, Mary Kay was united in marriage to Gary Stumph. To this union, Cherie, Greg, and Todd were born. They later divorced. In April, 1970 Mary Kay was united in marriage to Jack Campbell and they became the parents of Jackie. Jack passed away on December 22, 1971. On July 21, 1972, Mary Kay was united in marriage to Jack Hixson and they became the parents of Elaine. Jack passed away on December 8, 2002.

Mary Kay was employed as a Special Education teacher for 30 years at Tarkio High School. She had also taught for half a year in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Chi Omega Chapter in Tarkio, United Methodist Church in Tarkio, Weekly Luncheon Club and the Garden Club. Mary Kay was also a member of the Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxiliary in Fairfax, Missouri,the Missouri State Teacher's Association and Tarkio Community Teacher's Association. Mary Kay loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her Poker Club, traveling, gardening, cooking, crafts and loving on her dog, Gobi. Mary Kay faced many losses during her life, but was always full of joy and happiness and lived her life to the fullest. Mary Kay passed away, surrounded by her family, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care at the age of 76.

Besides her parents and husbands, Mary Kay was preceded in death by son, Greg Hixson. Survivors include children Cherie Lynn Heits and husband, Mike of Fairfax, Missouri; Todd Allen Hixson and wife, Debbie of Fenton, Missouri; Jacqueline Elizabeth Adell Martin and husband, Casey of Tarkio, Missouri; and Katherine Elaine Tyner and husband, Dave of Kearney, Missouri. Grandchildren Brian Heits and wife, Blythe, Brad Heits and Mallory Heits; Alec Hixson, Crystal Priscu and husband, Sam; Grace, Sophia, and Claire Martin; Dru Peregrine, Maya and Aiden Tyner; and six great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Ivie and Bryce Heits, Maddox Heits, Kaylee and Sam Priscu.

Hunziger, Stephen Thomas "Steve" - Stephen Thomas (Steve) Hunziger, the son of Thomas and Shirley (Grimes) Hunziger, was born January 9, 1951, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended South Holt High School, in Oregon, Missouri, graduating in 1969. He then attended two years of drafting school at Platte College in St. Joseph. On March 4, 1971, Steve entered the Kansas United States Army National Guard and served his country for 23 years, before retiring in 1994.

On May 17, 1972, Steve was united in marriage to Christena Stein and they became the parents of five children, Daniel, Amy, Chester, Joanne and Timothy. They later divorced. On September 9, 2000, Steve was united in marriage to Rhonda Resler in Oregon, Missouri and he became a caring step-father to Rhonda’s daughter, Amanda. They made their home in Craig, Missouri, where they lived to the present time.

Steve was employed by Mead Products for nearly 25 years until its closing in 2004. He then was employed by Cunningham Farms and Supply and Craig Grain to the present time.

Steve was Chief of the Craig Volunteer Fire Department, an EMT and a First Responder. He was a member of the Story-Hardin American Legion Post #164, Craig, and a website community, called the Q Joint Smokers Meat forum. Steve passed away Friday, October 2, 2015, at his home in Craig at the age of 64.

Steve was preceded in death by an infant sister, his grandparents and aunts and uncles. Survivors include wife, Rhonda Hunziger, Craig; six children, Daniel Hunziger and wife, Contessa, Oregon, Amy Ensz, Rosendale, Missouri, Chester Hunziger and wife, Mindy, Rosendale, Joanne Estes and husband, Brian, Maysville, Missouri, Timothy Hunziger and wife, Amelia, Kansas City, Missouri, and Amanda Driskell and husband, John, Tarkio; parents, Thomas and Shirley (Grimes) Hunziger, Oregon; nine grandchildren, Chenoa, Jacole, Cloe, Wade, Sophia, Blake, Baelin, Wyatt and Madison; five siblings, Russell Hunziger and wife, Sharon, Forest City, Missouri, Alvin Hunziger and wife, Marcia, Atchison, Kansas, Edward Hunziger, Forest City, Lori Holliday and husband, Ron, St. Joseph, and Patty Schoonover and husband, Bryce, Mound City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jackson, Audley D. - Audley D. Jackson, Sr., the son of Lloyd Earl and Lela (Tallant) Jackson was born October 28, 1928, in Wathena, Kansas. He attended Phelps City, Missouri, schools. Audley worked on the Missouri River and joined the United States Navy where he served his country during World War II.

In 1948, Audley was united in marriage to Clara Allgood. They became the parents of two children, Marlene and Audley, Jr. Audley was employed as an iron worker building skyscrapers and power plants. Following retirement, he returned to Rock Port and owned and operated a small welding shop west of Rock Port, Missouri.

Audley was a member of the local MO-KAN Iron Workers Union in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of the Grace Church, Rock Port. Audley passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, Nebraska, at the age of 87.

Besides his parents, Audley was preceded in death by five brothers, Lloyd, Wilbur, Jack, John and Cletus Jackson; five sisters, Edith Record, Sally Anderson, Leola Lewis, Lela Painter and Joan Humphrey. King, James Ray "Jim" - James Ray “Jim” King, the son of Thomas Ray, Jr. and Doris Belle (Asbury) King, was born September 27, 1949, in Maryville, Missouri. He attended Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri, graduating in 1967. In June of 1969, Jim entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country as an active service member and reservist for over 24 years, retiring March 31, 2008.

In May of 1969, Jim was united in marriage to Ponya Harper at the Westboro United Methodist Church. They made their home in Westboro and became the parents of three children, Nic, Chris and Crystal. Jim owned and operated King’s Breeding Stock. He then purchased a truck and for a short time drove locally for Roger Bess. He then was employed for numerous long haul trucking companies as an owner operator over-the-road truck driver.

Jim was a member of the Merrill-Smith American Legion Post # 32, Westboro, The Forty and Eight, the United Methodist Church, Westboro, and was a former Westboro volunteer fireman. Jim passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at Elm Heights Care Center, Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 66.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include wife of 46 years, Ponya King, Westboro; sons, Nic King and wife, Lauren, Maryville, and Chris King and wife, Beverly, Tarkio, Missouri; daughter, Crystal Branson and husband, Justin, Shenandoah; grandchildren, Josie King, Andruw and Aydnn King and Ryleigh Branson; special sister-in-law, Janeen Harper, Westboro; brothers-in-law, Marvin Harper and wife, Mary, Barnard, Missouri, and Randy Harper, Cheney, Nebraska; sisters, Donna Baker and Karen Perry, both of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lane, Grace Clara Gillinwater - Grace Clara (Gillinwater) Lane, the daughter of Wiley and Carrie (Addington) Gillinwater, was born October 18, 1931, in Jonesborough, Tennessee. She attended Midway country school and graduated from high school in Gate City, Virginia.

In her late twenties, Grace moved with her family to Nebraska where she was employed by Mutual of Omaha. On February 21, 1959, Grace was united in marriage to Kenneth James Lane in Hamburg, Iowa. They made their home south of Rock Port, Missouri, in the Langdon community, and became the parents of one son, Kevin. For 27 years, they farmed for George and Daisy Opp.

Grace also worked at Trail’s End in Rock Port, Missouri, and the Corning Restaurant in Corning, Missouri. In 1990 they moved west of Fairfax and farmed before moving to St. Joseph, Missouri, in 1993, where they lived to the present time. Grace passed away Monday, December 21, 2015, at Carriage Square Healthcare, St. Joseph, at the age of 84.

Besides her parents, Grace was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Survivors include husband, Kenneth, St. Joseph; son, Kevin Lane and wife, Kimberly, St. Joseph; two granddaughters, Madison and Rylyn Lane, St. Joseph; sister-in-law, Laverta Andrew, Rock Port; nephew, Michael Burg, New York City, New York; and two half-sisters, Faye and Ina Hartsock, Gate City, Virginia.

Laumann, Kathryn Mae - Kathryn Mae Laumann the daughter of Harold Duane Miller and Mary Leota Couvalt, was born on January 30, 1935 in rural Guthrie County, Iowa and entered into rest at Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the age of 80.

When Kathy was 4 her family moved to Menlo, Iowa, until the age of 7 when they moved to Des Moines, Iowa. At the age of 10 she moved to Portland, Oregon, moving to Clarinda, Iowa a year later, where she would be raised by her aunt and uncle, Eileen and Hugh Wells. Kathy grew up in Clarinda, Iowa, graduating from high school. After high school she was united in marriage to Donald Laumann at Huntington Beach, California, on February 18, 1952. After their marriage, they moved to Hawaii where Don was stationed with the Marine Corp. After 13 months in Hawaii they moved to El Toro Marine Base in southern California, until Don was discharge in August of 1953. After Don's discharge they moved to rural Farragut where she would live the remainder of her life.

Kathy was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church rural Westboro, Missouri; being involved in the Couples Club where her and Don were charter members. She was also active in the church choir, Lutheran Church Women, serving in many offices. Kathy was a member of the Fairview Club and Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed doing handy work and crafts. Her favorite pastime however was following her children and grandchildren in their activities throughout the years. Kathy worked for many years as a cook at Grape Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa and the Sidney Care Center in Sidney, Iowa.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt and uncle Hugh and Eileen Wells, and two sisters, Barbara Sanders and Neva Harrison.

Logan, Marlin L. - Marlin L. Logan, the son of M.C. and Elsie Fern (Black) Logan was born March 19, 1935, in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Tarkio High School, graduating in 1953. On February 20, 1958, he entered the United States Army and served his country for two years at Fort Bragg, in North Carolina.

On February 14, 1958, Marlin was united in marriage to Donna Leigh Huffman in Rock Port, Missouri. When returning from North Carolina, they made their home on the Logan family farm east of Tarkio. In 1962, they moved to the Barnard farms in Westboro. They became the parents of four children, Rebecca, Roberta, Melanie and Michael.

Marlin was very civic minded and served Atchison County in numerous capacities. He served as Atchison County North District Commissioner from 1983 to 1990 and as Atchison County Presiding Commissioner from 1990 until retiring in 2010.

Marlin was an active member of the Westboro United Methodist Church, where he currently served as treasurer. He had formerly held the position of church trustee and served on the church board of directors. For many years, Marlin served as committee chair for the Lord’s Acre Day. Marlin was currently a master mason with the North Star Lodge # 157 A.F. & A.M., Rock Port, a member of the Selective Service Board, Westboro Lions Club and Tarkio Nutrition Site Board of Directors. He had previously served on the Atchison County Extension Office Regional Council, Westboro Fire Department, Westboro school board, Westboro girls’ softball coach, Shenandoah Iowa Elks Club, 4-H leader and had worked on the Atchison County Ambulance District as an EMT. In 1972, Marlin and his family were honored as the Missouri State Farm Family of the year.

In 2007, Marlin and Donna moved off the Barnard farm into Tarkio. He missed the farm life and caring for the animals. Marlin enjoyed woodworking, golf, fishing, gardening, bingo and spending time with his family. He was known for teaching them how to draw a duck by making “L’s.” Marlin passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 80. Marlin will also be missed by his 4-legged companions, Peewee and Nosey.

Besides his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by grandson, Fighter Elias Logan. Survivors include wife, Donna, Tarkio; children, Rebecca (Matthew) Gatlin, Roberta (Mark) Crawford, all of Superior, Nebraska, Melanie (Roger) Riley, Fairfax, Michael (Melissa) Logan, Smithville, Missouri; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Corene Mitts, St. Joseph, Missouri, LaVaun Powers, Garland, Texas, and Marjorie Goacher, St. Joseph; two brothers, Jack Logan, Powell, Wyoming, and Millard Logan, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorenz, Okie Marie - Okie Marie Lorenz, the daughter of Guy L. and Okie B. (Wolf) Benedict, was born June 2, 1920, in Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 1937.

On September 14, 1945, Marie was united in marriage to Charles Lee Lorenz at the High Creek Baptist Church in Watson, Missouri. They became the parents of four children, Martha Marie, Celia Sue, Larry Charles and Roy Lee, and made their home in Rock Port their entire married life. Charles passed away January 15, 2000.

Marie stayed at home raising and caring for her four children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting and reading. Marie made sure each grandchild received a handquilted quilt. She enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren and was an active member of the Rock Port Baptist Church. Marie passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 95.

Besides her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by brother, Cecil Guy Benedict; infant sister, Mildred Eva Benedict; son-in-law, Robert Lee Moore; and great-grandson, Henry Daniel Hopkins. Mather, Phillip D. "Dutch" - Phillip D. “Butch” Mather, the son of Lewis Mervin and Imogene (Chambers) Mather was born December 30, 1937 in Dotham, Missouri. He graduated from Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri in 1955, and entered the United States Navy. Butch proudly served his country on the destroyer USS Porterfield for three years with his specialty being electronics. Butch received his honorable discharge in 1958.

On May 18, 1957, Butch was united in marriage to Norma June Henning in Pasadena, California. They returned to Westboro in 1958 where their family continued to grow with five children; Phil, Janice, Cindy, Diane and Jennifer. Butch was employed by Lewis Mather Construction, a land improvement business owned by his father. Later, Butch, along with his brother, Dean, formed a partnership and purchased the newly named Mather and Sons Construction which he operated until retiring in 2008.

Above all, Butch truly treasured the time he spent with his family and made the most of every opportunity when he was with them. Their well being was his greatest priority and he always put his family before himself. Butch had a passion for woodworking and made hope chests for each of the women in his family that are still treasured today. He also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and chocolate milkshakes, hold the cherry on top. Butch loved to laugh and brought a genuine smile to everyone he encountered. Butch passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, surrounded by his family at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 77.

Butch was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church and the Westboro Lions Club. He was a former member of the Westboro Volunteer Fire Department and the Elks Lodge, Shenandoah, Iowa. Butch also had formerly served on the Westboro School Board, Westboro Town Board and City Council and as an assistant Boy Scout Leader.

Besides his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Carol Mather. Miller, Glenn Eugene - Glenn Eugene Miller, the eldest son of Iven Brown and Ida Florence (Burrier) Miller, was born August 14, 1918, in Oregon, Missouri. Glenn passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the age of 96 years in Rancho Cordova, California. He attended Oakland and Oregon School, graduating in 1937. In 1942, Glenn entered the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 39 months working as an airplane mechanic while stationed in the Aleutian Islands.

On August 14, 1946, Glenn was united in marriage to Patricia L. Thompson of Mound City, Missouri. They became the parents of three children, Kenneth, David and Vivian. Glenn resided in Oregon and Mound City for ten years working as a farmer. In 1956, Glenn and his family moved to Sacramento, California, where he began a career working with computers at McClellan Air Force Base. Glenn retired from McClellan in September 1978. Glenn and Pat enjoyed their retirement years traveling and visiting with friends and relatives while also enjoying Nature’s spectacular scenery over much of the United States. Glenn enjoyed woodworking, making numerous items for family and friends. He was a member of the Arden Christian Church in Sacramento, California.

Morehouse, Delores J. - Delores J. Morehouse, the daughter of William and Mary (Heine) Thurnau, was born March 31, 1931, in Craig, Missouri. She attended Holt county rural schools and Craig High School, graduating in 1949.

In 1953, Delores moved to Tarkio, where she was employed with St. Joseph Light and Power as a bill collector. On September 6, 1959, Delores was united in marriage to Larry Morehouse at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Craig. They made their home in Tarkio their entire married life and became the parents of two sons, Timothy and Scott. Delores worked for St. Joseph Light and Power from 1950 to 1959, after that she stayed at home raising and taking care of her children. Larry passed away July 6, 2008.

Delores was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Craig. Delores passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 84.

Besides her parents and husband, Delores was preceded in death by two brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include two sons, Timothy A. Morehouse and wife, Teresa, and Scott A. Muller, Amy Louise Riggins - Amy Louise Muller, the daughter of Robert Glen and Jane Coarine (Johnson) Riggins, was born September 4, 1971, in Fairfax, Missouri. She attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1989.

In the early 1990’s, Amy was united in marriage to Jeff Muller. They became the parents of one daughter, Andrea. They were later divorced. In 2014, Amy was united in marriage to Jerome Bannister. They made their home in Westboro to the present time. Amy passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at her home in Westboro at the age of 44.

For a short time, Amy was employed in the front office at NSK Corporation in Clarinda, Iowa. She was a member of the Merrill-Smith American Legion Auxiliary in Westboro and the Westboro United Methodist Church. She enjoyed participating in the annual Lord’s Acre Day.

Amy is preceded in death by grandparents, Raymond and Wilma Johnson and Dema Riggins. Survivors include husband, Jerome Bannister, Westboro; daughter, Andrea Lynn Muller, Maryville, Missouri; father, Robert Riggins, Westboro; mother, Jane Miller, Northboro, Iowa; sister, Emily Parker and husband, Jeff, Ashland, Nebraska; brother, Justin Riggins and wife, Cathy, Blanchard, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rail, Neloami Lucy "Kelley" - Neloami Lucy “Kelley” Rail, the daughter of Raymond Washington and Jennie Nelle (Duncan) Kelley, was born January 20, 1918, in Mound City, Missouri. “Kelley,” as she was affectionately known, graduated from Mound City High School in 1936.

On May 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Laurence “Larry” Raymond Rail. They became the parents of Lance, Clint, Nancy, Kathy and Judy. In later years, they made their home in Tarkio, Missouri. Kelley was employed with Tarkio Hy-Vee in the meat department retiring in 1988. Kelley passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Tarkio, at the age of 98 years.

Kelley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; one son, Lance Rail; two great-grandsons; and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Clinton Rail and wife, Sharon, Lincoln, Nebraska, Nancy Daugherty and husband, Kelly, Tarkio, Kathy Herron and husband, Gene, Rock Port, Missouri, and Judy DeBuhr and husband, Mark, Auburn, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Martha (Alfred) Bolander, Wichita, Kansas.

Roberts, Jerry L. - Jerry Lee Roberts, the son of Willis Theodore and Blanche Gertrude (Murry) Roberts was born March 24, 1941 in Tarkio, Missouri. Jerry attended Tarkio High School and then employed by the City of Tarkio for 17 years.

On June 1, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage to Cecelia Irene (Susie) Vogel at the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax, Missouri, by Reverend Campbell. They made their home in Tarkio and became the parents of one daughter Marla Lea.

In 1974 Jerry and his family moved to Sparta, Missouri, where Jerry was employed by Fasco Fan Company in Ozark, Missouri. In the same year they returned to Tarkio where Jerry was employed for a short time by Don Whited, and then the Missouri Department of Transportation for 25 years, retiring in 1999. Jerry passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio at the age of 74.

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a twin brother, Larry Roberts, twin brothers, Connie and Johnny Roberts, half-brothers, Darrell Wiley, Wilbur Wiley, and half-sister, Diane Witty. Saunders, Eugene L. - Eugene L. Saunders, the son of Eugene and Elizabeth (McCaully) Saunders, was born August 4, 1944 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He attended Leavenworth public schools. On March 6, 1967, Eugene entered the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge on March 5, 1969.

On September 8, 1972, Eugene was united in marriage to Mary Louise (Fahseler) Chastain in Leavenworth. They moved to Fairfax, Missouri in 2008 where they resided to the present time. Eugene passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016, at his home in Fairfax at the age of 71.

Eugene was employed in the sanitation department of the City of Leavenworth, and in the custodial department of Leavenworth public schools. He was a member of the George E. White Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 56, Leavenworth. Besides his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by grandparents, Beulah and William McCaully, uncle and aunt, Alonzo Sr., and Alberta McCaully, cousin, Alonzo McCaully Jr., stepdaughter, Sandra Chastain. Smith, William Jerome "Jerry" Jr - William Jerome (Jerry) Smith, Jr., the son of William Jerome (Bill), Sr. and Martha Marie (Adams) Smith, was born April 23, 1957, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended school in Oscoda, Michigan, and Fairfield, California, graduating in 1975.

In 1983, Jerry was united in marriage to Mary Cook. They were later divorced. Jerry was a lifelong carpenter who served the communities throughout Atchison County, Missouri. He was also a former Boy Scout and loved kids, pets and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Raiders. Jerry passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at his home in Rock Port, Missouri, at the age of 58.

Jerry was preceded in death by brother, Steven Smith. Stanford, Dorothy V. Tuggle - Dorothy V. Stanford, the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Jincks) Tuggle, was born April 9, 1930, in Ridgeway, Missouri. She graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1949.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Vilas “Curly” Howell and they became the parents of two daughters, Carma and Peggy. They later divorced. On July 23, 1952, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Stanford and they became the parents of Larry, Jerry, Marsha, Terry, Krista, Gary, Donald Jr. and Eddie Joe. Including Donald’s four sons, Benny, Bob, Bill and Blake, the couple raised 14 children.

Dorothy was employed as a nurse by Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring in 1984 after 25 years. Following retirement, they built a home in Warsaw, Missouri, where they lived until ill health forced their move to Atchison County to live closer to their family. Donald passed away September 15, 2012. Dorothy passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at her home in Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 85.

Dorothy attended the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed raising all kinds of animals, attending to her flower gardens, crocheting and making quilts.

Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by three sons, Benny, Bob and infant son, Gary Stanford; and brother, George Tuggle. Survivors include children, Bill and Blake Stanford, Carma Eagans, Peggy Eagans, Larry and Jerry Stanford, Marsha Eagans, Terry Stanford, Krista Louderback, Donald Stanford, Jr. and Eddie Joe Stanford; 40 grandchildren, two of which she raised, Kevin and Bobby Joe Stanford; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Stanton, Robert Lee - Robert Lee Stanton, the son of Bill and Mabel (Garst) Stanton, was born June 8, 1925, in Hamburg, Iowa. He attended Watson, Missouri, High School, graduating in 1943. He then attended one semester at the University of Missouri- Columbia, Columbia, Missouri.

On August 17, 1946, Robert Lee was united in marriage to Cassalou Fischer and they made their home on the Stanton family farm in Watson. In 1959, they moved to Rock Port, Missouri, and in 1961, they moved to Kawaihae, Hawaii, where for ten years, they owned and operated a cattle feeding operation and grain elevator with Ed and Margaret Payton. In 1964, they returned to Rock Port and built a new home on Stanton Drive. In 1971, they sold the Hawaii cattle operation to focus on their farming operation in Missouri and Leesburg, Florida. Cassalou passed away November 16, 2004. On January 13, 2006, Robert Lee was united in marriage to Doris Ann Schmidt. They made their home in Rock Port to the present time. Robert Lee passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, Fairfax, Missouri, at the age of 90.

Robert Lee was an incorporating director and former President of the Board of the Rock Port Telephone Cooperative where he served for over 50 years. During his tenure he led the board to national involvement by being active in National Telephone Cooperative Association where he received the Director of Life Achievement Award and was appointed to the Rural Telephone Bank by President Jimmy Carter and also served under Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush. Robert Lee had a great love and passion for Northwest Missouri State University where he served as a Board of Regent for 12 years and the Northwest Foundation Board for 6 years as co-chair of the Bearcat Stadium construction committee. For his dedication and commitment he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree and received the alumni association Honorary Alumni Award. Robert Lee succeeded his father Bill on the Bank of Atchison County Board serving from 1960-1993. Robert Lee was a founding member of the Missouri Beef Packers, a 50 year member of the Atchison County Levee District, Governors Agricultural Ambassador and many other boards, organizations and community development projects.

Besides his parents and wife, Cassalou, Robert Lee was preceded in death by stepmother, Clara Stanton; sister, Hope Furkin and brother-in-law Buford Furkin, brother, Donald Paul Stanton; step brothers, Robert Ladd and Donald Houchin; brothers-in-law, Clarence (Tim) Wessler, Jim Hollingsworth and Johnnie Dragoo; nieces, Deon Wessler Starman and Exa Lewis; nephews, Cory Stanton, Mike Beckman, Richard Broermann and Doug Beckman.

Stuchal, Linda Sue Stolt - Linda Sue (Stolt) Stuchal was born in Great Falls, Montana, on July 28, 1948. She passed away on February 6, 2016, at the age of 67 in her home in Brownville, Nebraska, surrounded by a host of family and friends and her beloved dogs Charlie, Pepper and Buster.

In 1949 she moved to Ralph, South Dakota, where she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Mary and Robert (Bob) Parks. Growing up, Linda was a ranch girl. She loved riding horses and her horse was her best friend. She received her early education in a one room rural school house with 15 other children for 8 years, and attended high school in Hettinger, North Dakota. After graduating high school she moved back to Great Falls to attend business school. There she met Byron Barnhart and they were married in 1967 and later divorced.

After Byron’s service in the Air Force, they moved to Watson, Missouri, to the family farm and raised three children, Jodi, Bob and Michael.

In 1990 she met and married Gary Stuchal, the love of her life. They had one child, Cody, and Linda became the stepmother of two girls, Chris and Anji. In 1991 Gary and Linda moved from Auburn, Nebraska, to Lyons, Colorado, where they lived for three years before moving to North Platte, Nebraska. In 2000 they moved to Brownville to be closer to their children and grandchildren because Linda was missing her first grandchild Tuesday, “Toots” as she called her.

Linda enjoyed quilting, thanks to her best friend Judy Moreland, who taught her that quilting “wasn’t that hard!” Her love of birds and gardening showed in her beautiful and vibrant flower and water gardens where she spent quality time with her pride and joy - her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking and making keepsake gifts for her family. She loved preparing dinner for the family for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her loving, caring spirit aided senior citizens with their transportation needs.

During her life in Brownville, she and Gary bought and maintained a national historic landmark, The Cogswell House and made it their home. She served as President of the Brownville School District where Cody received part of his elementary education. She was proud of Cody’s many accomplishments including his recent graduation from Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, Missouri, with a B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Duane Stolt and Shirley Stolt; her aunt and uncle, Mary and Robert Parks; and extended family Gene Jenson, whom she considered her brother. Taylor, Robert Dale - Robert Dale Taylor was born on August 14, 1930 to William and Vida (Combs) Taylor.
He served in the United States Army with Company B 6th Tank Battalion from 1952 to 1954. Dale served part of that time overseas in Korea and Japan.
On December 23, 1955 he married Frances Marie Burgess at the Christian Church parsonage in Mound City, Missouri.
Dale worked for the Atchison County Highway Department for one year, then the Missouri State Highway Department for 42 years, retiring in 1990.
Dale enjoyed staying active, camping, fishing and having coffee with friends.
Dale passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 at an Omaha, Nebraska hospital at the age of 85.
Dale is survived by his wife Frances, of their home; sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Mary Taylor, Rosenberg Tex., Robert and Peggy Taylor, Shenandoah Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert “B.W.” Kennell, Hamburg, Iowa; sister, Ethel Wallace, Tarkio, Mo.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jenny Taylor, California, Mo., Fred and Darlene Burgess, St. Joseph, Mo., Bob and Sheila Burgess, Cross Timbers, Mo., and Monty Burgess, Afton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Thacker, Marrison B. - Marrison B. Thacker, son of James Franklin and Katie Bell (Inman) Thacker, was born January 31, 1932, in Fairfax, Missouri. On December 31, 1950, Marrison was united in marriage to Dona Jean Johnson. They lived in St. Joseph, Missouri, where Marrison was employed by St. Joseph Light & Power for 44 years. They later lived in Georgetown, Indiana, to be close to family. Marrison passed away December 19, 2015, at Bee Hive Homes in Georgetown, Indiana, at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.

Marrison loved his family and enjoyed the times they had together. He liked the outdoors and working with his hands. He was admired for his strong desire to help others. Marrison was a Scottish Rite, 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, and friend.

Thomason, Betty Jane - Betty Jane Burke Thomason, previously from Rock Port MO, passed away Dec. 13, 2015 in Scotts Valley, CA, where she lived with her husband Paul and their cat Sassie. Betty suffered from Parkinson’s disease but really enjoyed a full adventurous life.

Betty was born October 8, 1928 in Watson, MO to Homer and Maude Hudson. Betty was preceded in death by both her parents and her first husband Charles Mercer Burke. Betty and Charles raised their 3 daughters in Rock Port MO where the family business, Burke & Son’s Lumber Company, remains in operation with the Burke family at the helm.

Betty is survived by her husband Paul, who allowed Betty the chance to share travels, family and build more relationships. She is survived, as well, by Paul’s children Terry Thomason (Kathi), Elizabeth Taylor, Alfred Thomason (Connie), and Sue Schwee, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other immediate and extended family members that cared and loved Betty.

Betty is cherished by her three daughters and families, Jacqueline Crouthamel (Dan) Des Moines, IA, Kathleen Burke, Kansas City, MO and Susan Cornell (Jeff) Chino Valley, AZ, her grandson, Taylor Kennedy (Stacy) and great-granddaughter Lexi.

Betty was a strong, proud, educated professional and family woman by choice and by life's journeys. She was a lovely, remarkable person, able to steer her children forward with knowledge and integrity.

Betty graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1950 and shortly thereafter married Charles Burke. They resided in Rock Port, where she taught English for a few years. Following Charles' death in 1969, Betty returned to teaching English, later obtained a degree in Library Science, and became the school librarian.

Betty married Paul Thomason in 1981. Following retirement, they moved to Las Vegas, NV and in 2008, moved to Scotts Valley, CA. Once moving, Betty and Paul lived in a lovely apartment and were active in that community for many years. Betty was a favorite of many residents and caregivers. She continued learning and reading with books on tape, enjoyed her new great-granddaughter, Lexi, and listened to classical music, a favorite of her and daughter Jackie.

The date for Betty’s Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Minter Funeral Chapel with a private service and inurnment at the High Creek Church and Cemetery in Watson, Missouri. Thayer, Douglas A. "Doug" - Douglas A. “Doug” Thayer was born Sept. 23, 1944 to Isaac and Ola (Pope) Thayer in Fairfax, Missouri. Doug graduated from Fairfax High School in 1963.
Doug served overseas in the U.S. Air Force, the Reserves and the National Guard for a total of 26 years.
On Aug. 7, 1971 he married Karen Turner, and they became parents of two sons. They lived in California for 11 years, where he worked for Gallo Winery. They returned to Atchison County in the early 1990’s.
Doug worked as a machinist for Eaton Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa for 10 years, and most recently for Kawasaki in Maryville, Missouri.
Doug passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Pleasant View care center at the age of 71.      
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant brother, Johnny Thayer; infant sister, Helen U. Thayer; and sister, Hope Elaine Wynes.
Survivors include his wife, Karen, of their Tarkio home; sons, Jerry L. (Kim) Thayer of Abilene, Texas and Jason D. Thayer of Tarkio; brother, Marvin (Tanya “Bo”) Thayer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Lola Mae (Gary) Sons of Shenandoah; and nieces and nephews.

Valenzuela, Angela Hope - Angela Hope Valenzuela, the daughter of George Valenzuela and Rebecca Reed, was born November 29, 1984, in Lubbock, Texas. She attended Tulia schools, Tulia, Texas.

Twelve years ago, following her mother’s passing, Angela moved to Fairfax, Missouri, to be cared for and live with her cousin, Debbie Long and husband, Bill. The Long family loved Angela as if she was their own daughter. She was a large part of their family and enjoyed life through all of their ups and downs. Angela enjoyed helping Debbie care for other children, attending Girl Scout meetings and Fairfax youth activities. She attended school events and sports activities with her family, where she made many friends. Angela passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 31.

Angela loved drawing, coloring, reading books and writing poems. Angela was a sweet, good person who led a simple life. She had a great sense of humor and loved music, especially old rock and roll. In her brother, Joshua’s, words Angela has changed us all and we hope that we are better for it.

Angela was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include brother, Joshua Valenzuela and wife, Aleena, Tulia; three nephews, Kathan, Zy and Brayson; cousin and caregiver for the last 12 years, Debbie Long and husband, Bill, Fairfax, and their daughters, Nicole Booker and husband, Grant, Shenandoah, Iowa, Lacy Long, San Antonio, Texas, and Katheryn Long, Shenandoah; Nicole’s children, Michael Reed, Mason Booker and Makinze Booker; cousin, W.F. (Tooter) Reed and wife, Betty, Kress, Texas; and numerous other cousins.

Vance, Sandra Kay Goodwin -Sandra Kay Vance, 66, Maryville, Missouri, died Saturday, October 24, 2015, at her home.

Sandra was born June 23, 1949, in Maryville to Arthur Jesse and Jeanne Kathleen (Hill) Goodwin. On March 20, 1978, Sandra and Richard Stanley Vance were united in marriage in Glenwood, Iowa.

A graduate of Nishna Valley High School in Hastings, Nebraska, she was a former cook for Gray's Truck Stop in Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard Vance (November 16, 1988); son-in-law Roger Hunt and brother-in-law Tom Mandina.

Surviving Sandra are her four children: Angela Hunt (Mark) Mitera , Red Oak, IA, Samantha (Nathan) Abrams, Skidmore, MO, Barbara Deardorff, Maryville, and Jeremy Hines, Red Oak, IA; eight grandchildren: Daniel, Kaiden, Mackenzie, Brendon, Natasha, Elizabeth, Sasha and Kayla; brother, Dale Goodwin, Canton, PA; and three sisters: Judith Anne Goodwin, Glenwood, IA, Janet Sue (Rodney) Courtier, Hastings, IA and Karen Mandina, Omaha, NE

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2015, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Graveside Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday October 27th at the Home Cemetery, Tarkio, Missouri.

Wennihan, Winford W. - Winford Wayne Wennihan, the son of Charles C. and Dortha S. (Mapes) Wennihan, was born February 24, 1928, in Ft. Morgan, Colorado. He passed into eternal life December 23, 2015, at the Tiffany Heights Nursing Home in Mound City, Missouri, at the age of 87.

He grew up in Ft. Morgan where he worked in his parent’s grocery store. His parents moved back to Missouri while he was in high school and he graduated from Maitland High School, Maitland, Missouri, in 1946.

Winford was united in marriage to Doris G. Thompson in Tarkio, Missouri, on September 15, 1947. They were married 63 years. Doris passed away April 3, 2011. They farmed in the Westboro and Tarkio, Missouri, area. He prided himself in his clean fields and straight rows. The last two months he had resided at Tiffany Heights, where the employees affectionately called him “Winnie.”

He enjoyed music and instilled his love of playing the piano and singing in his children; buying Leisa a piano at the age of 8. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang solos at many Christmas programs and funerals. A family tradition was singing carols around the piano at Christmas.

He attended his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and music activities. His great-grandchildren called him Pappa Winnie when they came to visit, which would bring a smile to his face. Last Christmas, Berkleigh wrote Santa a letter and asked him to bring Pappa Winnie happiness because he was special to her. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tarkio where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon. At the time of his death, he was a Deacon Emeritus.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Doris; sister, Betty Jo Nelson; and brother, Dennis Wennihan. Survivors include Leisa (Bruce) Biermann, Mound City, Missouri, Teresa (Ed) Salmond, Tarkio, Michael (Dena) Wennihan, Tarkio, and Matthew (Nissa) Wennihan, Coin, Iowa; grandchildren, Letitia Oswald and Tabitha Waigand, Vincent and Nathan Salmond, Ambera Pearson, Brett Wennihan, Ashley Liechti, Troy Wennihan, Taryn and Damond Wennihan; step-grandchildren, Bryan and Eric Krutz, Tristyn and Adilyn Williams, Tyler Nester and Ashilyn Sunderman; great-grandchildren, Noah, John, Seth and Luke Oswald, Kipton and Beau Waigand, Berkleigh, Tinsley, Tristan and Kade Salmond, Chase and Maddox Pearson, Brody and Bryar Wennihan, Hadyn, Jaxon, Liam and Gavin Liechti, Teagen Wennihan and Paxton “Winnie” Lynn Smith; step-great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Kaesi and Kolin Thee, Joseph Liechti and Kenisyn Noland; and special caregivers, Marilyn Hicks and Bridget Stillwell.

Wessler, Paul Henry - Paul Henry Wessler, 88, longtime Westboro, Missouri area farmer, passed away December 5, 2015, at his home in Tarkio, Missouri. He was born on July 12th, 1927, in the home, the 5th child born to Bertha (Laumann) Wessler and John Henry Wessler. A 1945 graduate of Tarkio High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy at the end of World War II, serving aboard both the U.S.S. West Virginia and the U.S.S. Indiana. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia on the GI Bill, completing a 2 year agriculture course before returning home to begin his vocation of farming.

On December 4th, 1949, he married Patricia Bullock, Shenandoah, Iowa. From this union of 66 years, four children were born; Kathy, Alan, Janette and Susan. Paul was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church and served his church faithfully. Paul and Pat lived and farmed in the St. John’s community in northern Atchison County all of his life, retiring to enjoy his love for woodworking. His woodworking projects, of which he took great pride, were exhibited in multiple civic fundraisers in Atchison County and for College of Agriculture events at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served on numerous boards in Atchison County including the Fairfax Community Hospital, the Colfax Mutual Insurance Company for 42 years, the Tarkio School board, and the currently named U.S. Bank board for 16 years.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence (Tim); sisters, Leta, Edna, Lillian, and Bernice Ilene; and grandson, Cory Stanton. Survivors include wife, Pat, Westboro; children, Kathy Wessler, St. Joseph, Missouri, Dr. Alan (Susan) Wessler, Columbia, Missouri, Janette (Dan) Stanton, Rock Port, Missouri, and Susan (Doug) Hicks, Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jodi Loucks, Maryville, Missouri, Terra (Mark) Snyder, Pretoria, South Africa, Bob Wessler, Columbia, Missouri; Brett (Kate) Wessler, Kansas City, Missouri, and Dr. Jay (Rachel) Stanton, Rock Port, Missouri; five great grandchildren, with a new arrival expected soon; sister-in-law, Shirley Wessler, Rock Port, Missouri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Reverend Rick and Ruthanne Bullock, Damascus, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Cathy and Terry Lesher, Westboro.

Woolsey, F. Dorthine Freeman - Frances Dorthine Woolsey, the daughter of James Riley and Molly Beldon (Cox) Freeman, was born June 3, 1919, in Dearborn, Missouri. She attended Faucett Public Schools, Faucett, Missouri, before moving with her family to Tarkio, Missouri, in 1927. She attended Center View country school, east of Tarkio and graduated from Tarkio High School in 1937. Dorthine then attended Tarkio College for two years, graduating with a teacher’s certificate.

On December 10, 1942, Dorthine was united in marriage to John Woolsey in Tarkio, at the home of Father Fidelis Goetz. They became the parents of one son, John Rodney. During World War II, Dorthine lived in Rock Port, Missouri, and taught at Lone Cedar and Lone Star country schools, north of Rock Port. For a short time, John and Dorthine lived in Columbia, South Carolina, before returning to Tarkio, where she lived to the present time.

Dorthine taught fifth grade at Westboro School, Westboro, Missouri, and at Homer country school, north of Tarkio. Dorthine was then employed by Farmers and Valley Bank, in Tarkio, as a bookkeeper and teller for 18 years, retiring in 1980. John passed away in 2002. Dorthine passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, at her home in Tarkio, at the age of 96.

Dorthine was an active member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tarkio, past President of St. Ann’s Altar Society and past President of Deanery 8 Alter Society of St. Joseph and Kansas City, Missouri, Diocese. She was a board member of the Tarkio Housing Authority for 20 years, a founding member and past President of the Morning Sun Friendship Club, and a former Atchison County Extension Council member.

Besides her parents and husband, Dorthine was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Z., Raymond L., George T., and Jesse O. Freeman; four sisters, M. Elizabeth Freeman, Mary Angeline Smith, Clara Helen Adamson and Leona Maude Smith; and sister-in-law, Thelma Woolsey. Survivors include son, John Rodney (Rod) Woolsey and wife, Mary Kathryn (Kay), Bonita Springs, Florida; three grandchildren, Monica Kathryn Fox and husband, Jason, John Robert Woolsey, and James Rodney Woolsey; one great-grandchild, Carson Fox; adopted family, Hank and Sally Wehmann, Hank passed away in May 2015, and their daughters, Sarah and Mary Wehmann; numerous nieces and nephews, James Clifford Smith, Robert D. Smith, Betty Fischer, Anna Belle Burke, Doris Withrow, James Leroy Smith, Jean Stevens, Marion Freeman, Duane Freeman, Dean Freeman, James Owen Freeman, Darlene Miller, Peggy Driskell and Donald Freeman.
