Brought, Nida Mae Morgan - Nida Mae Brought, born on October 31, 1922, in Westboro, Missouri, to Rubert and Mina (Spencer) Morgan passed away from this world Friday, June 19, 2015, at the age of 92. She had been a resident of New Mark Care Center, in Kansas City, Missouri, the last four years of her life. She grew up in Westboro, where she graduated from high school in 1941.
Nida married Gareld Wesley Brought of Tarkio, Missouri, on January 27, 1946, in Troy, Kansas. Gareld and Nida made their home in Tarkio until Gareld’s untimely death January 22, 1962. Nida continued to live in Tarkio until 2001 when she moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, along with her sister, Liva June Miller, to a retirement complex.
Besides her parents and husband, Gareld, Nida was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Lee Brought; infant sister, Winifred; two sisters, Elizabeth E. Bayless and Fawn Dot Miller; and one brother, Arden E. Morgan.
Nida is survived by two sisters, Mary Martina Osborn, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Liva June Miller, Mustang, Oklahoma; four sons, Randy (Sharon) Brought, Kearney, Missouri, Richard Brought, Overland Park, Kansas, Curt (Brenda) Brought, Platte City, Missouri, and Blaine Brought, Tarkio; seven grandchildren, Jodie (Dustin) Ebersole, Kearney, Stewart (Lauren) Brought, Castle Rock, Colorado, Hannah (Brenden) Hensley, Platte City, Hilary (Ryan) Sirridge, Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Matthew, Maria and Sarah Brought, Tarkio; one step-granddaughter, Deanna Hertensen, Essex, Iowa; two great-grandsons, Cayson Ebersole and Colton Brought.
One of the things Nida liked to talk about and was most proud was that her mother was a teacher and her father a master carpenter and musician. She would tell how her mother’s former students would tell her what a wonderful teacher her mother was. One of Nida’s fondest memories of her father was listening to him play the fiddle for Friday night dances at the town hall. Nida used her inherited love for music by singing in the school glee club, quartet, sextet and the chorus. In her adult years, she was a member of a chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s in Rock Port, Missouri. Nida was also active with civic organizations: Business and Professional Women, receptionist for the Tarkio Rodeo and First Baptist Church nursery. Professionally, Nida worked for local accounting firms, floral shop and assisted Gareld in operating his trucking company.
Nida’s favorite holiday was always Christmas. She would literally spend hours putting the lights and ornaments on the Christmas tree or cutting off a branch and replacing it back on the tree in a different spot that nature had forgot to fill in. She loved to decorate the whole house at Christmas and nobody could make a beautiful bow like Nida Mae.
Nida’s favorite music came from the Big Band era of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and the Dorsey brothers. One thing Nida liked more than listening to their music, was dancing to it. She loved to “cut a rug” as they would say in those days dancing the Jitterbug, Waltz and the Foxtrot.
Nida would also tell the story of her father walking ahead of them on the way to school in the winter while he held his coat out to protect them from the wind. She told of having one old sled that didn’t have any way to be guided except by shifting your weight, and they would sled down hills all day on Sundays.
She also told the story of taking Randy around and delivering May baskets made out of leftover wallpaper. She would take him to the neighbor’s houses and tell Randy not to forget to holler. He would go to the neighbor’s door and yell “Holler!”
But what Nida loved most in life was her family. She wants to be quoted as saying, “I’ve loved each one of you more than life itself and I’ve done the best I could.”
Home Cemetery, Tarkio.

Rosenbohm, Duane Keith - Duane Keith Rosenbohm was born August 13, 1943 near Nishnabotna, Missouri, to Virgil "Toots" and Esther Bressert Rosenbohm. In 1951, his family moved to a farm near Fairfax, Missouri, where he attended elementary school at Irish Grove School. He graduated from Fairfax High School with the Class of 1961, then attended Northwest Missouri State University for approximately two years, both before and after his two years of service in the U.S. Army. Except for this military service, which included a tour of duty in the Vietnam War, Duane was a lifelong farmer, working in partnership with his father, Virgil, and his brother, Dennis. Duane loved working with cattle and the land, and he took pride in planting straight rows of corn and soybeans.
Duane had a winning smile, was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor, which often took the form of pranks and practical jokes. Like many farmers, he could fix almost anything, at least for the short-term. He was also an accomplished pilot, welder, bulldozer operator, and cook. He was able to master almost anything he attempted, except golf, but he nevertheless loved to play. He also enjoyed fishing and trap shooting, and in earlier years, boating, water skiing, horseback riding and hunting in the company of his friends and his beloved Brittany spaniel, “Little Boy.”
Duane was a member of the Church of Christ in Rock Port, Missouri. He was also a member of Story-Hardin Post 164 of the American Legion in Craig, Missouri, and Voiture 1402 of the Forty and Eight, of which he served as Chef de Gare (president) for one year. He also served for several years with the American Legion's Funeral Detail, performing military rites for deceased veterans.
In 1964, Duane married Janice Lawrence, with whom he had two sons, Chris, in 1968, and Joshua, in 1972. Duane and Janice later divorced. In December, 1985, Duane married Kay Graves Thomas, who survives him. He is also survived by his older son, Chris, daughter-in-law, Melissa, and granddaughter, Ava, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Ava was born only 14 months before Duane suffered irreversible disability following a surgery on July 20, 2010. During those first 14 months of Ava’s life, "Grandpa Duane" took every opportunity to see her, and also carried with him a folder of pictures of his new granddaughter. Ava was his pride and joy!
Duane is also survived by his elder brother and farming partner, Dennis Rosenbohm, and sister-in-law, Sharon Rosenbohm, of Rock Port, as well as his sister, Sheryl Ball, and brother-in-law, Steve Ball, of Urbandale, Iowa. Additional survivors include one stepson, John-Christopher Thomas; nieces, Dee Ann Rosenbohm Crews and Alisa Ball Cahill; nephews, Steve Rosenbohm, David Rosenbohm, Michael Ball and Brian Ball; several great-nieces and great-nephews; many members of his extended family; and many friends.
As a result of his disability, Duane had lived at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port since December, 2010. He died in Kansas City, Missouri on April 19, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger son, Joshua.
