COUNTY MAIL, February 2, 1882 Nishnabotna nuggets - Dr J.M. Horn of Indiana will locate at Nishne. We wish the Dr success. Langdon locals - Wm Keuhlman has sold his farm and will move to Nebraska....Died on the farm of P.A. Thompson on the 24th ult., with a gun-shot wound, Mr Buffalo. "Peace to his bones." Mr Thomas J. West, of Concordia, Kansas is here attending to business affairs.... Miss May Bennett, one of the most accomplished belles of the Tarkio country, has been visiting her sister Mrs D.A. Colvin, in this city within the last week or two. Justus Hall, one of the oldest residents of this county, died at the residence of Wint Van Meter, in Polk township, on last Monday night. He was at one time one of the wealthiest men in the county but had met with reverses and lost his property. He was well known in this city and other parts of the county and a great many will learn of his death with deep regret. Mrs Carr, of Bigelow, Mo., is visiting her sister Mrs L.E. Ruland, in this city this week. Mrs L.A. Williams, of Kalamazoo, Mich., mother of A.L. Williams, formerly of Phelps City, is visiting Mr and Mrs Daniel Blake in this city. Thomas Holloway regaining strength.... THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, February 9, 1882 Walter Nutter has bought a farm in Richardson county Nebraska, and has moved over there. The MAIL will keep him posted in regard to occurrences in this county. Nishnebotna News - Mr and Mrs Jefferson Indicut have lost their only child, little Maggie, with that dreaded disease, diphtheria. They have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood....A young lady arrived at R.E. Christian's Feby 5th and has remained there ever since. She tips the scales at eight pounds.... Final settlement - James D. Murphy... Final settlement - Paul Robenstein.... THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, February 16, 1882 County Court Proceedings - ... John Jenkins, of Richardson county, Nebr., has moved to Linden in this county. We are sorry to learn that W.H.H. Christian, has sold his farm in Dale township, and will leave next month for southern Kansas. Billie Bunting, of Phelps City, is the happy father of a bouncing baby--well Billy says its a boy, but other reports say its a girl. Mrs Harry Baker left on Wednesday morning for Dodgeville, Kansas to join her husband who has just opened a general merchandise store there. Dr R.E. Bird, Physician at the Kaw Agency Indian Territory, is at home on a visit to his relatives and legions, of friends. He will return to his duties in a short time. The position which he so ably fills is a responsible one and all who know him wish him success. Watson items - The railroad company has just built one of the largest water tanks on the road, at this place. We tried to learn the capacity, and asked three different men. One said it held 3,500 gallons; another said 2,000 gallons, and the third confidently informed us that its full capacity is 20,000 barrels. We then became discouraged and gave up the job in despair....Judge Morgan has rented his farm to Len Mavity, and will leave with his family for Lincoln, Illinois, this week. The Judge's daughters are attending school at that place and he will remain until they graduate. Linden pick-ups - Frank Lowe has changed his mind and will remain in Missouri, instead of moving to Nebraska. MARRIED - At the residence of the bride's parents near Watson, MO., on Sunday Feby., 12th, by Rev J.C. Moore, Mr Valentine Hopson and Miss Ida F. Adington all of this county. THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, February 23, 1882 Lode Goodwin, died at the house of his father northwest of here, on last Saturday, of pneumonia. Squire Newell forged the link on the 12th inst., that made Joseph L. Haith and Miss Margaret L. Baker man and wife. Mr and Mrs George Baird were called upon last Saturday night to give up their darling baby. Whooping Cough was the disease that caused its death. We learn that a son of Mrs Smith, a widow woman living on Water street, died on Monday of measles. There are other cases of sickness in the family and such assistance as they may require should be promptly rendered by the philanthropic people of the city. High Prairie breezes - Two of our brightest and best young ladies stepped into the matrimonial harness last week. Miss Luretta Klouse and Mr Oscar Lowe, Miss Nan Hunt and Thos Livingston. The ceremony took place at the residence of Mr Klouse. A large number of relatives and friends were present. ... Langdon Locals - Wm L. Anderson, one of the young bloods of this place, was married on the 8th inst, to Miss Cora Sperry, of Downs, Kansas. On returning home Friday, a large number of their friends and relatives called to take a squint at the fair bride.... Since Fairfax was founded there have been four births within its limits. The first child born there was that of Mr and Mrs Lafe Walkup. It only wieghted two and one-half pounds, but is now several months old and perfectly healthy. |
