Article about need for new courthouse....
 
Wm Frazier left last week for Los Angeles California where he will make his home in future.
 
Harry Baker left last week for Dodge City, Kansas, where he will conduct a general merchandise establishment in future.
 
W.S. Thompson, has moved to Axtell, Marshall county, Kansas, where he and his brother own large farms and will deal in cattle.
 
Miss Louisa Traub, of the Convent of the Sacred Heart, St Joseph, spent holidays with her parents in this city. She returned to St Joseph yesterday.
 
Stephen Teague, formerly a resident of this county, met with quite a serious accident at his home at Castle Rock, Colorado, a few weeks ago. He was helping to put a pump in a well seventy feet deep and had been lowered by a rope tied to his waist, to the depth of about thirty feet when the wall caved in on him leaving him suspended in the well entirely wedged in with stones and dirt....they dug him out and no broken bones just scratches....

THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL - EXTRA -January 1882
 

Dr T.T. Tayman, called at this office last week. We are sorry to learn that he is going to leave the county--he having arranged to move to St Louis.
 
We are sorry to learn that Joseph Jackson, who has for several years been a resident of Polk township, has bought land in Nodaway county, and is going to leave this county.
 
Mrs Andrew Buckham left the first of the week, for a visit to her parents in New York City. She was accompanied by her son Floyd who we understand, will remain there, having procured a position in A.T. Stewart's up town store.
 
John Zulauf is building a new ice house east of his business house on North Main Street. It looks however, now, as if he will have to import ice to put in it.
 
Mrs Scott, left last week for Clarinda, Iowa, where she will spend several weeks visiting her daughter, Mrs A.B. McCreary. The MAIL will reach her there and keep her advised of the happenings of interest here. She was accompanied by Mrs Robt Hunter and daughter, Ella, who will remain until after the holidays.
 
THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, January 12, 1882
 
Dick Gaede left last week for Dodge City, Kansas, where the old firm of Gaede & Baker will conduct a large General Merchandise establishement in future.
 
We are glad to learn that Thomas Holliway, who returned home from Montana last week, seriously injured, is getting better. The absurd story that he had burst a blood vessel is denied by the physicians.
 
One of the pleasant events of the season was the marriage of Mr Chas Burnett and Miss Mary Holland, which occured at the residence of the bride's parents in this city on Thursday night of last week. Rev C.I. VanDeventer, of St Joseph, officiating.
 
Isaiah Tate and Thomas Holloway returned from Montana last week. The latter was severely injured a few weeks ago. He was assisting in baling hay and in moving a bale hurt his breast and grew worse so rapidly that it was thought best that he return home. He now lies at the residence of his father north of the city in a rather critical condition. Tate returned to Montana this week.
 
Hon A.E. Wyatt of this city and Jno L. Carson of Brownville, will start to New York in a short time to complete arrangements for early work on the Missouri Northern railway.This is the road which is to run from Brownville through this county to intersect the Wabash at or near Burlington Junction...
 
Turkey Hollow Gabbles - Frank Handley, a young man of the vicinity who went to Colo., about two years ago, is visiting friends and relatives here now. He will return to Colorado in the spring, so he says....The wife of T.W. Bartholomew died at her home in Clay township one mile north of Pleasant Grove church, on Dec 24th, and her funeral was preached at Pleasant Grove church, on Dec 25th, by Rev Maggie Wallace, from John 13 and 7th, verse. She was buried in Millsap's Cemetery. She leaves a husband, three children and a large number of friends to mourn her death.
