THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL. August 5, 1880
A.P. Bishop, of the St Joseph Gasette, is the happy parents of a twelve pound baby boy.
 
Wesley Balson visited father at Kidder....
 
Isaac J. Oliver of Callaway county, a brother of our efficient Sheriff, T.H. Oliver, was visiting the latter last week....
 
Hiram Gaunce's babe died....
 
THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, August 12, 1880
 
Some statistics about the numbers on the 1880 census: how many families, population numbers etc in northwest Missouri....
 
James Lowe Esq., who lives a few miles northeast of here, wears a bright smile, and all because there is a twelve pound boy baby at his house.
 
Joseph Jackson, who lives about two miles northeast of Linden, lost a child by that terrible disease diphtheria last Sunday. This makes the second child which he has lost by death within the last two or three weeks.
 
Fred L. Chuff arrested at Junction City, Kansas for stealing a horse from Aden Smith of Dale township this county. He denies the charge.
 
Linden items - Miss Emma Teague and Mr Dillon of Rock Port, were married on Sunday.
 
THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, August 19, 1880
 
In Nodaway County, C.L. Wallace shot W.F. Taff because they are both rivaling for the affections of the same girl....
 
Charles Howell lost a son on Saturday from that terrible disease, flux.
 
Mr Riffe of West Virginia, is visiting his brother W.L. Riffe, Orr & Thomas' accommodating salesman.
 
J.E. Spurlock had his hair mowed, and has been trying ever since to make up with his two year old boy.
 
John Garst, of Nishnebotna township, started this week for an extended visit to his old home in Tennessee. He will get back in time to give the Democratic ticket a boost in November.
 
R.F. Sparks, foreman in this office, and one of the best printers in the west, accompanied by his sister, Miss Alice Sparks, left for Iowa and the East on last Monday. The latter will remain in Indiana two years.
 
Mr and Mrs Chris Schneider's babe died....
 
Linden news....A few weeks ago, Mr Hunt, who lives in this place, went to the neighborhood of St Joe to move a family. Word came to the family of Mr Hunt in a short time that he had sold his wagon and team and started back home. No news has been heard from the missing man since then. It is feared that he has met with foul play.
 
Nishne Station news....F.W. Hahn had his saddle, bridle and gum coat stolen from his barn a few nights ago. We would not be surprised to hear of a horse missing in the neighborhood.

THE ATCHISON COUNTY MAIL, August 26, 1880
 
Mrs S.J. Osborn of WaKeeney, Ks is visiting friends and relatives in this city now.
 
Creed Christian has resigned his position in Orr & Thomas' store and will go to California in a short time.
 
Noah Green returned on Tuesday from a visit to his old home in Iowa, and again handles the ribbons over the four bus greys.
 
Red. Stone has shuffled off the soil of single cussedness and has taken unto himself a wife....
 
Milton news....The railroad is being built up the Tarkio Valley now at the rate of one mile a day. The track is now completed some six or seven miles from Corning. They now ship all their ties and iron on the new road. Almost every man from the crossing of the creek to the Boney Bridge expects a depot to be located on his farm, or at least very near it.
 
Linden news....There is considerable news in Polk township, but I have not time to give it all. Wm. Townsend has sold his farm and will move west. Isaac Hays has also sold out and is going west. Mr Richards bought the Hays farm, which adjoins his own. This gives Mr Richards a very large farm, which he knows how to manage. A great many of our farmers have their faces turned westward.
