001Joye L. Carnes, the daughter of Sam and Luttie (Graham) Jones, was born July 20, 1930 in Clifty, Arkansas. Joye attended high school in Huntsville, Arkansas, graduating in 1949.

On April 3, 1953, Joye was united in marriage to Herbert Carnes in Lincoln, Nebraska. They made their home in Raymond, Nebraska where Joye worked for the Elgin Watch Company. In 1966 they moved to Westboro, Missouri, where they lived to the present time. Following their move to Westboro, Joye drove a school bus for the Westboro and Tarkio school districts.

Joye was a true “farmer’s wife.” She enjoyed driving trucks, tractors, milking cows, churning butter, raising chickens and every year planted a large garden. She especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren. Joye was a member of the Merrill Smith American Legion Auxiliary, Westboro.

Besides her parents, Joye was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Harvey, Eugene and William Jones and two sisters, Marlin Hadley and Velma Phillips. Survivors include husband, Herb Carnes, Westboro; daughter, Sonia Willers and husband, Jon, Shenandoah, Iowa; grandchildren, Jordan Hoefing and her husband, Capt. Jon Hoefing, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Taylor Willers and her fiancé, Gabe Stevenson, Farragut, Iowa, Cord R. Willers, Brookings, South Dakota, Madison Willers, Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Wanetta Puryear and husband, Kenneth, Springdale, Arkansas, Barbara Shipp, Huntsville, Arkansas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

002Mary Margaret (Underwood) Campbell, the daughter of William Martin and Mary Letha (Bowden) Underwood, was born June 27, 1925, near Rock Port, Missouri. Margaret attended Irish Grove Country School and graduated from Rock Port High School in 1943.

On October 8, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Dean Archibald Campbell. During World War II, Dean served his country and the couple made their home in Amarillo, Texas, and Dothan, Alabama. While in Dothan, their only child, a daughter, Katherine, was born. Margaret returned to Rock Port when her husband served overseas. She worked at Clayton Allen Law Office.

After the war, they made their home on the Campbell Family farm in Langdon, Missouri. During the years on the farm, Margaret also became the postmaster of the Langdon Post Office and Dean and Margaret became the owners of the Langdon Grocery. In the 1960’s, the couple started renovations on the Campbell family home. They partially retired from farming and did a lot of international travel. Margaret was a dedicated wife and mother. Dean passed away in 1981.

Margaret continued management of the farms and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she was active in the Scottish Society and competition ballroom dancing. Margaret passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at her home in Omaha at the age of 86.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include one daughter, Katherine Caradori and her husband, Dick; grandson, Kevin Caradori and his wife, Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Connor Caradori; brother, Raymond Underwood and his wife, Beth; nephew, Shawn Underwood and his wife, Jennifer; two nieces, Shannon Evans and her husband, Greg and Mianne Underwood Irick.

006Margery Ann Hamilton, the daughter of Harold and Lula (Gebhards) Walters, was born December 4, 1934, in Rock Port, Missouri. She attended Rock Port High School, graduating in 1952. In 1953, Margery was united in marriage to Maxen D. Gregg, of Tarkio. After Max’s discharge from the U.S. Air Force, they made their home in Tarkio, where Max taught math and science at Tarkio High school. Max passed away in January of 1978. To this union, one daughter, Joni, was born in 1960.

Marge was employed as a secretary for Tarkio Elementary School for several years and she worked for many years as a teller at banks in Rock Port, Tarkio, and Westboro. In 1985, Marge was united in marriage to Roger D. Hamilton of New Lennox, Illinois, and for a short time they made their home in San Antonio, Texas. After Roger’s retirement from the trucking industry, they returned to Tarkio, where Roger passed away in December of 1992. Marge continued to reside in Tarkio following Roger’s death, but for the past several months, she had been residing in the Palm Springs, California, area, near her daughter. Marge passed away on May 16, 2012, at Odyssey House Hospice in Palm Desert, California, at the age of 77.

Marge enjoyed social activities, bowling, playing bridge and golf. She had been an active member in the ladies golf association at Tarkio. Survivors include her daughter, Joni Mott and husband, Robert; stepsons, Russell Hamilton and Robert Hamilton and wife, Gail; step-grandchildren, Keri, Rebecca and Rachel; and step great-grandchild, RJ; aunt, Betty Gebhards; sister-in-laws, Kay Gregg and Sharon Smith; several nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and many friends.

007Anna Laura (Hazelton) Harmon, 88, of Topeka, Kansas died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 at home. She was born on July 12, 1923 in Miller, Missouri to John S. and Emma E. Hazelton. She was known to many friends as Annie. She was raised and educated in Marshfield, Missouri and graduated second in her High School class in 1941. She then entered Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Joseph, Mo. Anna graduated first in her nursing class in 1944. She married John Lee Harmon on April 20, 1946.

Besides her parents, Anna was preceded in death by husband, John L. Harmon; grandson, John Christian Harmon; daughter-in-law, Deanna Harmon; sister, Ruth Hazelton; and brother, John Hazelton, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Lance of Glendora, California; three sons, John Grover (wife, Deanna preceded in death) of Layton, Utah; William Robert and wife, Renee of South Gate, California; and Jesse Stephen and wife, Robin of Landers, California; one daughter, Laura Lee Thomason and husband, David of Topeka, Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren (nine) and great grandchildren (eight).

After high school Anna entered Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1944 as an R. N. She served her country during WW II in the American Nurses Corp in the US, Japan and the Philippines. She was a Charter member of the Women in Military Service memorial in Washington, DC. During her lifetime, Anna used her nursing skills and worked at different times in California and then Missouri as a rural visiting nurse.

Anna and John were married after the War, and made their home in Huntington Park, California for 30 years. Upon retirement, they returned to Missouri: Grovespring, MO (1975-1988) and then Rock Port, MO (1988-1995). After John’s death in 1995, Anna moved to Topeka, Kansas to be near her daughter and her family. Anna enjoyed many hobbies: playing pinochle and pitch, quilting, knitting for local charities and visiting with her many friends. For years, Anna and John enjoyed fishing, especially their fishing trips with Gus and Wanda (John’s sister) Minter. Anna was a member of the Community Congregational Church of Huntington Park, California and the Christian Church of Hartville, Missouri. She was also a member of the Topeka Newcomers club.

008Richard Stanley “Stan” Irvine, son of Samuel and Lucille (Woodhouse) Irvine, was born April 26, 1919, in Tarkio, Missouri. Stan attended Tarkio High School, graduating in 1937 and Tarkio College in 1941. On May 9, 1942, Stan entered into the United States Army Air Corp, serving his country during World War II as First Lieutenant. Stan instructed students in flight, navigation, and instruments in a B-24. He also served as a flight commander of 75 men and received training to become a B-29 flight instructor.

On October 23, 1943, Stan was united in marriage to Ruth E. Sieben in Liberal, Kansas. Following Stan’s honorable discharge, they returned to Tarkio and made their home on the Irvine Family Farm, east of Tarkio. Stan farmed until becoming the Manager of Tarkio Pelleting Corporation, retiring in 1986. After retirement, Stan and Ruth moved to Sun City West, Arizona until 2006. Since 2006, they made their home at Living Community of Saint Joseph, Missouri. Ruth passed away August 26, 2011. Stan passed away on March 2, 2012, at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, Missouri at the age of 92.

Stan was a long standing former member of the Tarkio United Methodist Church, and the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, Sun City West. While in Tarkio, Stan was a member of the Tarkio Rotary Club and served as a Board member of the Midwest Feed Manufacturers. Stan enjoyed dancing, golfing, playing bridge and spending time with his family.

Besides his parents and wife, Stan was preceded in death by brother, Maurice Irvine and sister, Virginia Irvine. Survivors include two daughters, Susan Richard and husband, Gary, Folsom, California and Patty Davis and husband, Sheldon, Fairfax, Missouri; two grandchildren, Derek Davis and wife, Dawn and Courtney Graves and husband, Jarod, all of Fairfax; two great-grandchildren, Amber Lewis, Columbia, Missouri, and Baylee Lewis, Fairfax; sister-in-law, Margaret Irvine, Tarkio; nephews, Steve Irvine and wife, Eileen, and Larry Irvine and special friend, Jeannine Broermann, all of Tarkio.

009Jamison Lester Baker was born June 9, 1976 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Roger Dean Baker and Debra Kay (Ribbey) Taylor. He passed away in Maryville, Missouri December 28, 2012 at age 36.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children Xavier Jamison Ray Baker and Athena Mae Marie Baker, their mother, Shannon Baker of Bernie, Missouri, and McCoy Brown of Maryville, Missouri; mother, Debra (Ribbey) Taylor of College Springs, Iowa; brothers: Joe (Linda) Baker of Maryville, Missouri; Eric (Marcy) Baker of Newbern, Tennessee; and Kelly Baker of Lenox, Iowa. Also surviving are many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Preceding Jamie in death were his father Roger Baker and step-father Rodney Taylor, and grandparents.
Many people will wear Jamison’s markings forever. He was a very talented artist through tattoos, as well as pencil & ink. One of his last drawings was of his children praying together; combining his passion for drawing with the love he had for his children.
Xavier means “death with stars in the sky.” Xavier & Athena will know that their dad is the brightest star they see. Jamie had a great love for his children and spoke to them every day. Even at Athena’s young age; she knew her daddy was calling when she saw his picture on the phone and became excited to talk to him.

010Betty P. Werts, 85, Council Bluffs, formerly of Clarinda, passed away December 27, 2012 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. Betty was born August 17, 1927 in Villisca, to the late John and Ola (Campbell) Ziehe. She graduated New Market High School in 1944 and married Robert Werts on March 21, 1945. They were blessed with five children, Debbie, Randy, Joy, Cynthia and Barbara. Betty and her husband owned and operated Werts Locker in Clarinda for many years, before moving to Underwood in 1970, where they owned and operated Martin Meats. Betty was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Country Church and was an active volunteer and card clubber at Risen Son Christian Village.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Werts in 2004; brother, Gerald Ziehe and daughter-in-law, De De Werts. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Rick) Boehm, Joy (Mike) Stein, Cynthia (Tom) Colbert all of Council Bluffs, Barbara (Vern) Davis of Lincoln, Neb., Randy Werts of Apopka, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Slevin of Kansas City, Mo.; brother, John (Arlene) Ziehe of Hayward, Calif., and brother-in-law, Herb Behrhorst of Clarinda; nieces and nephews.

011Freda Lorine (Byrn) Corbin, 91, died Dec. 30, 2012, in Bentonville, [Ark]. She was born on Jan. 22, 1921, to the late Thomas Franklin and Emily Jane (Foster) Byrn.
During her grade school years, she lived in Missouri and Iowa.
On Jan. 12, 1944, she married Joy T. Corbin. They rented a 350-acre farm. Joy was called to serve in the Army during World War II. When he returned home from the service, the owner's son decided that he wanted to come back to the farm, so Joy and Freda purchased a farm of their own. Freda worked in Corning, Iowa, at Houck's Store and then in Clarinda, Iowa, at the Outlet Store for four years. She then went to work for the Clarinda State Hospital where she retired in 1986.
After retiring, Freda remained on the farm until she had a heart attack on March 26, 2006.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Dwight Mothershead of Rogers, [Ark]; and many friends and relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joy T. Corbin, who passed away on July 31, 1975; two infant brothers; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie May Byrn and husbands, Leslie Dukes and A.C. Barnes, Zelda Jeneva Byrn and husband, Harold "Mike" Brown, Ruby Cordis Byrn and husband, Orville McGinness; and brother, Rawleigh Hubert Byrn and wife, Ethel Mae (Wake) Byrn.
The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel.
Her visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the chapel.
She will be buried in Gravity, Iowa, on Saturday, Jan. 5, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa.

012Jean Keenan Wurster was born October 24, 1925 to Gladys and Rue Keenan at the family home near Maloy, Iowa. She had 5 siblings; Lee, Dorothy, Virginia, Robert, and Karl. Jean graduated from Maloy High School in 1942. She worked in the grocery store in Blockton, Iowa saving her wages so she could attend college in Maryville, Missouri.
Jean earned her teaching certificate and began teaching in Lenox, Iowa. There she met her life's companion, Karl Wurster. Jean and Karl were married on December 20, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Creston, Iowa. Jean and Karl lived in many communities throughout Iowa and later retired in Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1987. Each new place they lived, they made life-long friends. Jean taught school for 37 years. She earned her Master of Science in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri College and was nominated for the Iowa Teacher of the Year award.
Jean and Karl loved to travel. They had many happy times visiting relatives and friends all across the United States. They often invited members of their family to go along with them.
She loved having her nieces and nephews come and stay for a summer visit. Each one left feeling like they were someone very special.
Reading was Jean's passion. She taught hundreds of children to learn to read during her teaching career. She also helped instill the love of reading in three generations of nieces and nephews by always giving wonderful picture books for Christmas presents and their birthdays.
Preceding Jean in death was her father, Rue Keenan, her mother, Gladys Elliott Keenan, her brothers Lee and Bob, her sister, Dorothy Hall, brothers- in- law Glen Henderson and Beryl Hall, and sister-in-law Betty Keenan.
Left to cherish memories of Jean are her husband Karl Wurster of Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr; her sister Virginia Siverly and husband Fred of Clearfield, IA; her brother Karl Keenan and wife Donna of Boliver, MO; and her sisters-in-law Maxine Henderson of Lenox, IA and Sheryl Keenan of Waukee, IA. Jean will be missed greatly by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial fund has been established for the Clearfield Public Library.

013James Henry Andrew Bredensteiner was born March 17, 1926 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Geroge and Margaret (Mikkelson) Bredensteiner. He passed away on December 29, 2012 at the Corning Nusing and Rehab Center in Corning, Iowa at the age of 86.

Due to his mother’s death, Jim was raised by his aunt and uncle Carl and Lizzie Neve. Jim graduated from Westboro, Missouri then entered the United States Calvary and later the Army, serving his country proudly overseas for two years. He married Faye Trullinger of Farragut, Iowa on July 6, 1947. They were happily married for 65 years and this union was blessed with three children, Terry Sue, who died in infancy, Bruce and Janet.

Jim and Faye farmed for the first 10 years of their marriage and then moved to Farragut in 1957. Jim worked at B.F. Goodrich then for Campbell and Bickett’s store in Farragut as bookkeeper and salesman for 22 years. He then worked for Eaton Corporation. Jim was active in the Farragut community and in his UCC Church. He loved sports and outdoor activities, playing cards and reading. But his greatest joy was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always made time for those he loved and attended every sporting event of his grandchildren that he could. He left many wonderful memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Terry Sue in 1948 and Bruce James in 2001; and brothers-in-law, Leonard and Gerald Trullinger.

Jo Ellen "Jody" Zimmerman, 71, died Monday, May 28, 2012, at her residence, Maryville, Missouri.

Jo was born June 1, 1940, in rural Harrison County, Missouri to Eldon and Dorothy Greenall Peery.

A 1958 graduate of the Gilman City High School, Jo was a Program Technician at the USDA Nodaway County Farm Service Agency, Maryville, for 16 years retiring in 2003.

She married Jerome "Jerry" Zimmerman September 2, 1988, in St. Joseph, Missouri who preceded her in death.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son in law Kent Fuhrman, and brother in law Charles Wilson.
