I got started copying the 1860 census today and this is my interpretation of what is on it. It is very important that you understand that if 5 people copied this census, they would have 5 different records in the end. The writing is atrocious; the end result is a guess...

I have copied a lot of census records and one thing I have learned is that the families are not always listed together. This happened because two more copies were made of the census data that the enumerator had written down. If two people each picked up a page, copied it, and when each got to the end of the page, he/she picked up another...it may not have been the page that should have followed it. If a page begins with children...you better ascertain what family those children were supposed to be in..it may NOT be the last family on the immediate page preceding the one you are looking at.

For instance, the last family listed on page 16 is that of Johnathan Rush, wife Lucy, children Elisabeth and Michael....the last child of this family is Clara Rush age 5 listed as the first person on page 11. John Russell is listed as household #60 on page 9, but his three youngest children are the first ones listed on page 18. I have noted where I have put families back together...please watch this. There are two Dunlap children gaps and I am guessing which ones go in which family. If you can add documentation that these are correctly or incorrectly put back together...PLEASE let me know.

Can you help eliminate the question marks??? Do you recognize the families??

These pages will change as more is added to the census data.
